I received a free Airave from Sprint but I had some questions. I wanted to know if I have the most recent model. On their website they show it's made by Samsung but the one I received is made by Airvana. On the website it says the Samsung model only handles voice but the one they set me handles voice and data.
Just wanted to know if they sent me an unreleased model.

There was rumor of a 3g model coming out but I have not heard anything latley. Sorry no help. I have the second Gen Samsung.
This has been out for over two months. I have had mine for that long at least. There are many threads here about it.
Sent from my GiRLiE Evo
the one you have hasnt been available in the system for a couple of months the airvana is the new airave its under the principal of a "femtocell" and is not in the system for order yet, the airvana does full 3g and six phones at the same time but i hear it pulls a bit of bandwidth something to keep in mind
So I have a new one then awesome. I went in their site and I only saw Samsung. I haven't hooked it up yet but lets see how out goes. Mines doesn't have an antennae like the Samsung models.

No it is not in the system yet but that is the one that everyone is getting. I think they have been giving them out for free but it is sprints property so don't think it is yours. Lol they sent me a letter about a month after I had mine and said it was theirs and blah blah blah.

On a whim, after reading this, I called sprint, due to a signal problem in my area. Seems one of the towers has been having major issues lately. When I am at home, or near my house, I don't get text messages till I make a call, incoming callers have complained about an insane amount of rings till I answer, even if I answer immediately, outgoing calls take longer to connect, etc.... Once I get about a mile from home, everything works right.
It was the least painful call I ever made to Sprint. They are sending out an airave (most likely airvana from what I have been reading everywhere) for only 99 cents, and waving the monthy fee, as I have been a customer for 6+ years. The total length of the call was about 5 minutes.
99 cents? Weird.

WTF!? I've been calling for weeks and shopping stores and you got one today?
they promised me one free and free monthly service but they keep telling me they dont have any available, what department did you talk to?
Talk with retentions tell them what's the point of having service if you can't use it and you are gonna close your account.

Ya there not available in stores samsung airrave stopped being stocked in stores two months ago or longer (haven't paid attention) only spot to find the picture of the airvana is on sprints airave support site and under neath that it says contact your nearest retail store to get one, which we haven't seen or been announced through the retail channel

Here, I'll straighten everything out:
Samsung Airave:
Only does voice and 1X data.
Airvana Airave:
Does voice and 3G data.
Is currently being sold in stores, and given by Sprint to people with poor service, or who complain loud enough.
Got an airave on tuesday. I am a new customer in my 30 days and complained of the service, I was sent one at no cost, and no monthly fee. I put it up in the attic, and have had 5 bars service in my house since. I never even switch the phone to wifi anymore as the 3g with airvana is plenty fast.
Speak to retentions department. I'm happy that this new airrave handles voice and data. I got mines free with waived monthly service. Can't wait to try it out.
I had multiple calls and my drop call radio in my house was displayed on their side. Everything I complained about was backed up in notes.

Pretty much covered all that but I am standing in a corp store as I type this and it is not available, it is possible that they could be available by region but I'm doubtful, I'll let every one know when we see them

yeah, im an X sprint employee and a couple of my buddys are managers at sprint corporate stores, none available in the area, and they cant be direct shipped from the warehouse yet either.
but what im angry about is that people are getting them and they are telling me they arent available, It all went over pretty easily because they said sure we'll get you one ( i didnt even ask) just called and said i had terrible service, but yet no one can get ahold of one.
Very frustrating for every one right now besides the lucky few who got them if customer service says there in stores ask them to verify with the store while your still on the line. I'm Just trying to reduce headaches for every one

OK.... so I have an airvana.... everything is up and running just fine... I'm a little confused.... since its possible to make voip calls through it does it mean that I can take it anywhere in the world.. hook it up to the internet and make calls free to the USA without signing up for any Sprint voip plan?
I know that it won't find any mobile signal but it should have the Broadband and gps lights as constant green if I hook it up elsewhere to the internet outside USA.
Thanks in advance.

I think you have to sign up for the sprint plan.

Sorry, I haven't checked back to this thread in a while... I called Sprint at 1-877-775-4886
The call was quick, under 5 minutes, and I had the Airvana in a couple days. They said they would take off the $99 and only charge me 99 cents, but I didn't see that charge in my bill either. I did see that the monthly $4.99 charge had been waived though, so I know it was on this billing cycle.
Sprint apparently has a roaming department now. And I have been "targeted as a roaming customer". I couldn't believe it when she said that. Not only was she fairly rude, but I'm now being treated as if I was somebody who hasn't been with the same carrier for years! I literally responded with "targeted? For what?" She didn't care to explain much and actually went through all my details and account history as I sat on the phone in silence just waiting for some sort of response or direction. After being in silence and hearing her mumble, cough, and what I thought to be her eating snacks, she quickly stated (so fast I couldn't make out what she said the first time) "you have the option to terminate with no etf or port your number with no etf". It literally sounded like this: youhaveheoptiototrrmijdETFporthsbsETF.
I thought about what I should as those were the only options presented to me... I finally asked, can I just keep the same thing I'm doing now? She basically said I could but threatened that my phone could be disconnected for no reason at all whenever they feel like it...!
I was too frustrated to deal with it anymore and told her thanks (nothing to thank her for, dunno why I did that) and ended the call.
Turns out I used approx 500 roaming minutes (phone calls) according to their records in six months. They claim that's excessive and sent me a letter 2 months ago that I still haven't seen. Either way, considering flashing to boost now. Only problem is, how do I get the other two phones on my account over there and would those be without etf as well?

Only sprint can answer those questions. My guess would be if they are allowing you to cancel 1 line with no etf, they should let you cancel other 2. If not, force them too.

If they want you to cancel your line, make it conditional on them releasing the others as well. Otherwise, change the PRL to constantly roam on your other two devices. You'll receive a call in about a month telling you that they want to cancel those lines too.
This is easy to do on an android phone, but I'm unsure about iphones.

500 minutes over six months is excessive? Isn't their monthly roaming "limit" "800 minutes or the majority of minutes" for any single month?

Well, I'd say it's nice to see you posting again on XDA but what odd circumstances.
I'd say call them up and get a clarification on it. If they don't drop the ETF already you could pressure them to do so and as another posted make it an "all or none" situation with your account. Remind them that it's not the only phone on the account. They'll either fold because you're costing them too much, try to give you the proverbial middle finger or drop the issue and let you continue as you have been. And if you don't get the answer you're looking for I'd take ask for a supervisor or find another way to escalate.
BTW, still sporting the LG as one of the other phones?
Lol. I do have the LG but kind of as a backup... My other phone is an HTC evo 3d which I need to find out if I can flash to boost as well...
Sent from my Super Galaxy'd SPH-D710
I'm going to venture to guess "mumbles" the CSR meant to say you've used 500 roaming minutes a month for the last 6 months, but wasn't articulate enough to spit that out properly. If I were you I would call into the customer service number and try and get a hold of a rep who can properly convey what they are trying to tell you and escalate it from there to retentions. You will probably end up with a few options, 1) keep all 3 lines and try to get below a certain amount of roaming a month 2) terminate the offending line with no ETF and keep the other lines active 3) cancel all 3 lines with no ETF or 4) get the offending line terminated ETF free but have to buy out the other lines at the prorated ETF if the contract is over a year into agreement.
We are legion, for we are many.

How do you use a PRL from another carrier? I have not seen that option anywhere.Sprint's coverage is pretty horrible and I could use some Verizon love when I am at work. Much better signal from Big Red and none from Sprint while there.

[UPDATE: 4/2/12] PRL Information Thread
Sent from my Super Galaxy'd SPH-D710
Hey guys, I recently had problems with my galaxy nexus F/cing apps randomly and locking up.
Sprint gave me a refurb to solve the issue, now this phone has terrible radios and my text messages are delayed by a whole day!
My sister texted me that she needed me to run an errand for her, that text arrives on my gnex 3 hours after it was originally sent.
I checked all of the settings, udated profile, prl, android, etc. Nothing.
I am going to the store tonight and ask a rep about a new one to see if I can solve this.
Its not a sprint issue since my other sprint phones send and receive texts just fine.
My Sprint one has been brilliant (other than Google Wallet previously sucking) so Id just chalk it up to you being unlucky.
It just sounds like you got two defective ones. Very unlikely but it does happens.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda app-developers app
Yeah, I guess its just bad luck
I went to the sprint swtore and the manager told me it was their network blah blah blah (my other 2 HTC evos and epic 4g touch were fine at the moment). She sent me a text from her phone and guess what? it came in!
I left the store, 2 other friends texted me and I didnt get the messages -,-.
I'm at work but ill chat with customer service later to see what they can do for me.
** UPDATE: Both of these problems (ringing, auto-answer @ VM) have been reproduced on my wife's phone as well... that's 3 SGIII's.
Got this phone on black Friday and am on my 2nd one already (Same exact probs with both). I have had at least 10 phones with Sprint at my current address/location (Richmond, VA) and have never had service or call issues until the GSIII. Had HTC Evo 3d before this, HTC EVO, HTC Touch, Touch Pro, Sanyo 6400, etc, etc...
I am able to reproduce a 25-35% missed call rate in which the caller goes to VM (after ringing and ringing) and my phone does not ring or notify me that a call has been missed... no indication other than a VM appears a few seconds (or minute) later... if a VM was even left.
I consistently have a 3-4 bar (84-87dBm) signal quality/strength.. and even 5 or 6 bars at times while at my location.
The next problem is that on at least 4 separate occasions a caller has called my phone, it never rings like explained above, but this time the caller hears 2-4 rings and it sounds like I pick up and answer... the caller can hear my side.. my mic.. but I have no idea they are even calling. After they are done screaming or talking at me.. I get a Voicemail of them doing so. This is the 2nd phone that is doing this, mind you.
I have searched and searched for this problem with no good results:
I HAVE DISABLED ALL AUTO ANSWER FEATURES, S Voice, and shaking gestures.. all of that. I also DO NOT use a headset in which most auto-answer threads revolve around. In short, it hasn't helped.
Both phones were stock with the Sprint OTA. Android 4.1.1, Kernel 3.0.31-329968.
I have been to the Sprint store multiple times in which they couldn't reproduce the problems.. but I was armed with a video of the call failures.. so they swapped me out to my 2nd SGSIII that hasn't performed any better. I have also been on Sprint Support chat 4-5 times now in which my network area is OKAY and have been through 3 or four factory resets and/or reprograms (Ya, I saved the MSL!) and the problems persist. Sprint is going to be sending me an Airave, but that doesn't provide any comfort that the problems will not happen in other places. Maybe a new ROM can help? Has anyone seen or reported these problems? What are the chances of having 2 bad phones exhibiting the same problem?
While this phone certainly made me cream my pants at first, now that we are married, it's like a bad hangover or something. Might have to switch back to HTC products.. never had a prob with them. This is my first posting, but I have been browsing and ROMing with XDA-Dev for like 5-6 years without an account.. it's the first thing that I can't find an answer for!
EDIT: Forgot to say that I don't have a bunch of crap installed other than the normal trusted GAPPS (No GVoice) and similar.. I'm privy to the crap out there.
Update PRL and profile, if it doesn't work ask for an airave from sprint.

Ya, updated PRL and Profile many times and had it pushed OTA by Sprint while on support chat. Have an airave coming, but going to be sending it back.. it is not isolated to my home.. so I don't need this kind of thing to happen at anytime, anywhere. I am going to be threatening with a FCC and BBB complaint citing privacy concerns to cancel my service without an ETF tomorrow morning in person at the Sprint Store. On my phone, and my wifes phone, known and unkown callers are being given a one-way "line of communication" to our phones without our knowledge instead of being directed to VM. This part of service is purely on Sprints side and has nothing to do with the phone. I suspected there were problems on my other phone before the GSIII but couldn't ever prove it and was quite a bit more sporadic than it is now. Now I have video of it happening 6 times on two different phones within a 20 minute period. Unacceptable. Off to Verizon I go after over 10 years with Sprint.

Silly question, but since this is more T-Mobile related, I thought I'd see what you guys thoughts.
When I got my phone, about 39 hours ago, I ported my old number from Verizon over.
Guy said it could take up to 24 hours. So far, it's not ported yet. How long does it normally take? Should I be calling, worried, or should I grab a cold one and relax until tomorrow?
(First time I've ported a number, after having been on VZW's Fascinate for 3 years..)
You mean switching from Verizon to tmobile ??
It shouldnt take more then 2 hour.
Sent from my SGH-M919 using xda premium
It could potentially take a few days, but that is worst case scenario. In most cases it will be done in hours. I ordered mine on launch with overnight shipping and it was ported hours before the phone was delivered. I would call just to make sure. You may have incorrectly put in a number.
call to make sure I ported from sprint and after almost 48 hours had passed I called them and the immediately and manually changed my number ... call em

I just did this (vzw to tmo). I made the port request in-store at tmo store. Guy said it could take 24-48 hrs. That is complete hog wash. Secondly, the port request I made in-store was never submitted. I got my S4 and my vzw S3 was still working. So I called tmo tech support and they had informed me that port request I made in-store was never submitted and that he could take care of it for me over the phone. I asked how long it takes and he said never more than 2 hours. Mine took place in about 30 minutes. As far as your ported number showing up in "about phone" and on on your myTmobile online account takes about a day. So happy I made the switch I feel FREE!!!!!
I think they just say 24-48hrs to cover themselves. I just ported a number as well and it was done within a few hours (not sure of the time scale, but I did it before I went to bed and it was complete when I woke up). It might be worth calling them or using the online chat just to check.
Just have them do it manually over phone

9.9 times out of 10,
porting does NOT take a day.
Thanks guys -
I had double checked with a phone rep when I had to get my phone activated, and she said the information was entered in. I'm not sure if the store guy put the right info IN, however, so when I get home tonight, I'll call again.
@jbdan - Where did you get the PIN from? I may have given them the wrong one, now.
They say 24 hours but porting from one of the big guys (ATT, Sprint, Verizon, etc) to T-Mobile should only take a couple hours... 4-6 at most 99% of the time.
When I ported my numbers not only did the first 2 people that I talked to did not do it right and it didn't go through, but they were from Net10 with a T-Mobile SIM. That actually does take about 2 days since it is already a T-Mobile number, just subsidized out. So in that case it will take longer.
But this does not seem to be the case with you so definitely call. I had to port 2 numbers when I switched to T-Mobile and the person in the store in my area messed it up, then I called and the indian lady I talked to messed it up worse. Then I called and immediately asked for a supervisor, she did it correctly and then it took only about 40 hours after that. -_- In your case it should only be a couple hours after being correctly submitted though.

Facepalm. I forgot about that. I never ever call them. I think it's 4 numbers standard. Mine is. Thanks.
If you specifically did not set up a PIN it should be the last 4 of your SSN. It was in my case and I was never asked to create a PIN on my POSTPAID account. I was on my PREpaid account since no SSN was taken there.
When I went from Sprint to TMO it took less 10 minutes. Also Tmo did everything on their side. I didn't have to deal with sprint regarding the port.

Wow, this is really eff'd up.
Called TMobile, they said that they submitted the port request, and got a confirmation that it was handled but the number wasn't released. They said I should call Verizon.
So I call Verizon. My number is part of a Family Plan, and I'm an account manager - not account owner. No matter what I dialed, I kept getting transferred to the automated "Port Center". Which would then tell me that this number is NOT ported to Verizon.
Even though, when you call it, my Verizon phone rings.
So, I was able to hit the right combination of buttons to get a live person. He said that there was something wrong, as "the compute won't download the port request status". I don't know exactly what that means, but he said that he couldn't read any information on my number, or the porting status. He said that I need to have TMobile try to re-port the number to get it out of its current state. (And, apparently, he let slip that none of my calls are counting towards the plan...) So I asked him what the PIN was, and he said he couldn't give it to me, and transfered me to Custom Service. The customer service lady was nice, said only the account owner can change the PIN, and so I hung up after giving her the owner's phone number.
This. Is. Fantastic. Amazing, my luck, getting my phone number stuck in limbo.
I ordered my phone by phone when it first was available...I was told my sprint phone wouldnt be shutoff untill I received the s4 from tmo....My sprint phone was shutoff by the evening of the initial order.....So basically I was without a phone until the s4 arrived a day later....Not a big deal, just surprised it was shut off so fast....Sorry some of you have had problems getting it done...
My port was done while I was still b in store... within less than 5 mins... not kidding

Brought phone in at 6ish, ported number. At 7 got a text saying number was ported. Around 7:30 got a call on my old phone during limbo time, like they said could happen. Around 11:30 my old phone went to disconnected and new phone started showing full connections.
I was going sprint to Tmobile.
