Basically, I love the black, glossy Sense framework look (although I use launcherpro). I love the HTC dialer, the USB connection menu, the copy-and-paste and wifi router and the HTC camera from Froyo ROMs.
However, official Facebook/Twitter apps will not sync with Sense ROMs. I even pushed the default contacts app to the device, but the sync is still not working well. Also, voice search, chrome to phone etc is missing from the market in many Sense ROMs. I also prefer the stock Android contacts and messaging apps over HTCs.
I want to build a hybrid rom, probably based on the vanilla Opendesire ROM. I can skin the framework to black myself. My question is, does anyone know how to get the HTC camera / dialer /copy and paste / wifi / USB type apps onto a vanilla desire ROM?
I tried pushing the .apks myself through cmd but most just force close.
I'd really appreciate the help - I know a lot of users who are after these features.
Cheers,
Mike
Good idea! Also count HTC mail app with full exchange support.
I am not sure if there would be easier to start the other side - from the froyo sense rom and remove all unnecessary stuff...

This is the angle that I'm currently working. However, there is SO much junk in there, and I cannot for the life of me get Facebook / Twitter sync to work. I stripped out the Sense apps and installed the default Android contacts .apk. If I manually sync every contact through HTC 'People' / Facebook for Sense, it does somehow link the default Facebook app to the contact, but loads of bits don't work properly.
It's very annoying as integration of contacts between apps is one of the nicest features in Android (coming from a Moto Milestone), but doesn't exist on Sense Roms.
So nobody knows if it's possible to get the htc camera onto a rom without sense?
It's almost impossible as the Sense apps rely almost intirely on the Sense frameworks. You would need to port the Sense stuff from the frameworks.
One thing is cirtan: It will be hard or someone would've already done it.
I would however love this if it was possible
Juste remove the .apk you don't need in the /system/app folder, and then install the Sense ROM you want, download LauncherPro on the Market, and you will forget Sense but keep all Sense app and widgets !
but, very good IDEA
For sure _start_ with the Sense ROM, and remove stuff you don't want to get as close as possible to the ROM you want. This is what Team Villain did with their SuperHero roms.
Basicly all the Sense apps _rely_ on the HTC Framework. Pushing just a few .apk's to an AOSP rom will _never_ work. Without taking the needed stuff from the framework, which is basicly everything.
Facebook sync has little to nothing to do with the facebook app and / or the contacts app. Specially the contacts app does nothing with that. It are the dedicated sync providers that do the work and modify the contact-store. But (AFAIK this is widely known) getting facebook sync to work with the stock facebook app is about modifying your build.prop. If the facebook app detects a sense-model phone it won't present the sync options! On the hero with a clean compiled AOSP rom, changing the build.prop to report it as a Sapphire instead of a Hero and 'tadaah', facebook sync works.
The same with the desire: make sure the build.prop reports itself as a nexus one, and not a desire or any other phone model that came stock with sense, and it should work.
Once again, if you want a hybrid: Take a look at SuperHero rom for the Hero, and more importantly: Start with the Sense ROM of your choice and strip everything you don't want / like, retheme what you want to look stock and keep going. Getting the stock calendar / messaging apps in might be as simple as pushing the .apk's. Things like browser / people (contacts) / phone (dialer) I'm not so sure about, but it doesn't hurt to try!

THIS is what I need to do! Any guidance on this build.prop?
Hi,
I'm currently running CM6 and loving it, but I'm torn on what to try next... EViO, Baked Snack and VaelPak are all possibilities.
None of the ROM's really have the exact thing I want. Ideally, I'd like a ROM that has the following:
- Sense E-mail App
- Sense Calendar App
- Sense Lock Screen
- Sense Status Bar (with Custom Battery Icon)
- AOSP Contacts & Dialer
- AOSP Messaging (SMS/MMS)
- AOSP Gallery
- 4G Support
- FM Radio
- WiFi/Wired Tether
- Sprint Bloatware Removed (apart from Sprint TV)
- ADK Laucher (easy to add after the fact)
Any ideas on how to get this? I wish I was a Dev... I would build my own
I have been really happy with my testing of Evio. I have installed just about every rom in an attempt to find the perfect rom for me. The 2 i ussually come back to are Damage Control and Evio.
Some are upset that Dc hasnt had an update in a while but in my opinion it works well and is stable and there arent a lot of reasons they need a big update unles they have something to actually improve it.
As for evio VERY very solid rom. My suggestion if you like CM is to try one of these 2 (since evio is on your list i would go witht hat one) Remove all the sense ui crap and then search the forum for ASOP phone/contacts and messaging apks that were modded to work with sense roms. I know i have seen galelry and am pretty sure i ahve seen phone/contacts. the only one i dont think i have seen is messagin. (i am a handcent fan so havent really watched for ASOP messaging).
once you find the apks of the modded apps you can simply remove the Sense versions and replace with the ASOP version. This would give you pretty much what you are looking for at least for the hard parts. the bloat ware and launcher you can easily adapt to any rom. evio also comes with wired and wifi tether apps preinstalled.
anyway of the 3 i would try Evio next and good luck getting everything for your perfect rom set up.

I looked but couldn't find the AOSP apk's that I need. Do you think it will work if I just extract the apk's that I like from CM6, by copying them to my SD card and then moving them to my laptop? I can see MMS.apk, phone.apk, contacts.apk, and Gallery3D.apk in /system/app. Are there any other files that need to be copied with these?
Any help would be much appreciated.
Short Version:
Making new Rom. instINCtive Rom? What features do you like? Include what apps? Include what mods? What features of other ROMs make them perfect for you?
Long Version:
Hey INC users. Since Redemptive Revolution hasn't been updated in a while, I've decided to abandon it as the base for my current theme/mod and upcoming themes/mods. (Sorry Lou, loved your rom, but i just need the newest of the new) I was trying to decide what ROM to switch to and I was drawn to the Re-Engineered ROM as it includes the newest version of jchisurf's power control pulldown mod (v2) that updates toggle status. For example, in Skyraider or Redemptive if you toggle wifi with a widget or in settings the pulldown will not reflect that change and will show the incorrect wifi state. In v2 of the mod which Re-Engineered has, this is fixed. Also I was drawn to the speed modifications and ram saving optimizations. HOWEVER, it is completely based on the EVO, and these types of ROMs do not work on my phone.
So, I decided to make my own ROM. In a way it's a kind of update to Redemptive Revolution, because that was my personal favorite ROM. Also, this way, I have a better understanding of what's going on internally when I try to make a theme and it will be easier for me.
So far the ROM is as follows (CONSTANTLY UPDATED) -
Most recent Incredible 2.2 base, all files are based on and from the most recent stock Incredible ROM except...
Framework-res.apk from the most recent EVO update (3.70 compared to redemptive's 3.30) with Jchisurf's power control pulldown mod v2 (updated from v1 found in redemptive)
Myn's Remappable Rosie (with some changes)
Custom Gingerbread-Sense Theme. Retains stock feel but darker and instead of solid greens there are green outlines and green glows. Gingerbread feel but completely custom by me. (Sense apps are not inverted like distINCtion)
"Reengineered" INC apps (not evo like in Reengineered Rom.
Inverted black and green Gmail.
Inverted black and green Facebook
Flashable distINCtion theme zip
Flashable distINCtive Acid theme zip (not released yet)
EDIT:
4in1 Reboot mod
Compressed powercontrol mod (saves space for notifications without losing functionality) (Ex removed those indicator bars and the space they were taking up... icons themselves will tell if enabled or not.)
Sensless Version in addition to Sense Version
Included Apps - Rom Manager, Titanium backup, XDA, Hulu modded flash, Skyraider Hulu app, Adobe Reader, ES File Manager, Pandora, Google suite of apps, Superuser, Call Confirm, DSP Manager, Facebook, Quickoffice, Spare Parts, Wireless tether... should i remove any? add more... if so what app?
***So my question is what else should I include? What would make this a good ROM choice for you? What features, mods, tweaks, or theme elements should i include/do you want? What stock apps should I include? Are there any other apps I should invert other than the ones i alread did? What do you think of instINCtive Rom as the name?***
Thank You!
I miss all the cool screen transitions from Incrom.
could you make a senseless version also?
A ROM with a full Bluetooth stack so I can use my wiimote with all the popular emulators and the modified flash.apk so I can view hulu videos. Oh yea, and the cool Gingerbread system shut down animation.

This ^^ with BT HID mouse & keyboard support & gingerbread sense.
I prefer as stock as possible, even without customized colors.. If I have an issue with the rom, I do not want to wonder if customizations are part of the problem.
Thx for the feedback.
Senseless version finished.
Added hulu modded flash. Now preinstalled .
And I'll look into BT

Should I include...
Skyraider hulu app?
Titanium?
XDA app?
ROM Manager?
Others?
Also I have "re-engineered" the stock apps except they are inc apps instead of evo apps like on re engineered Rom
What apps are bloatware in all you opinions and should be removed?

I say
include
xda
hulu app
and a sense-less version but looks like you already have that one..
and the BT stack for the WII mote.. etc.
thats bout it for me..lol

Definitely Titanium, XDA, ROM Manager, A file manager (EStrongs?), superuser with busybox ( a given I guess ), Pandora, Adfree Android, Dolphin Browser HD, Dropbox, the Google suite of apps (if they let you), a torch app, Quick Boot, and maybe Quadrant. All useful.
Bloat. Hmmm...
Amazonmp3, CityID, htcfootprints, Slacker Radio, My Verizon, Verizon Skype.
At least these are the apks I removed from the system when I rooted.

I won't include Adfree b/c the hosts file is already modified to block ads.
I don't see the purpose for quickboot when the 4in1 reboot mod is already included and quadrant is a pointless app IMHO. HTC flashlight included as a torch app.
As for Dolphin Browser HD and Dropbox... I don't know if those are completely universal apps that everyone uses.
Otherwise all the rest are good suggestions and I will include them thank you.
I'll do my best to "re-engineer" all the apps included, but for some less important ones i may save for a later update.
Assuming i can get permission from rmk, would the inclusion of virtuous buddy be a positive for you all?
THANKS! PLEASE KEEP THE ADVICE AND SUGGESTIONS COMING!
I updated the first post to reflect the changes I've made in the Rom and the apps that are preinstalled.
Let me know if there are any other features you want or apps to be preinstalled or removed.
Yeh screen transitions would be cool. Apps like quickoffice I don't think need to be there.

I can't believe I forgot wifi tether and DSP Manager. I use them all the time.
I like the ROM name.
Additionally, perhaps one of the circle battery mods from this thread.

I love the way the status bar notification toggles look in skyraider 3.5 sense I'd love to see it have that look, no on else has it. it's perfect I think.

+1 for full Bluetooth stack...it would be #1 rom
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA App
not sure if this is possible or not but from the Z roms could it be possible to port over the DLNA "connected media" side of things, i know its integrated into the framework but i loved it on the z roms.
Other thing would be nice is the "recent apps" scroller in the pull down menu (i think SkyRaider already has this but i'm not 100% certain)
an inverted boot screen? maybe? been wanting to try one of those custom ones out but didn't want to get my hands dirty in that area
transparent icons/statusbar? (makes themeing the statusbar a lot easier without having to re-do all the icons to remove the black notification background
HTC's voicemail app? i've only seen it a couple of times in very few roms
Themed power control widget? (i've tried this and always had issues with it only stretching the graphic and not even making the buttons completely themed...)
eh, maybe i should include my grocery list lol j/k
great work and i can't wait to see it
What non stock and non google applications would you guys like "re-engineered"
Right now I've got the stock apps and the google apps along with pandora and facebook optimized and trimmed down.
Please suggest essential apps that don't update that often. I don't want to do this for every app in the market and for every update.
Edit: hah just owned the facebook app. Just cut that mofo's MBs in half. Oh and inverted it.
Have you had a chance to look into Bluetooth?

Looks like HID bluetooth from CM6 conflicts with sense libraries. They don't work together. Tried messing with kernels... didn't work. It's beyond my abilities.
Sorry. Doesn't look good...
Guess i should just give up on making the rom huh? Alright I'll drag the folder to the trash.

Hi All,
I've been running Aero's CM9 for ages but would like to give Nit's UKB a shot. One thing I despise about Sense, however, is the messaging app; and I'd prefer to use the ICS AOSP messaging app, as well as dialer / contacts.
I understand that Nit's installer lets you choose which of the Sense apps you want or don't want (so I'd imagine I'd unselect the dialer / contacts / messaging / whatever else I don't want), however I'm wondering how to properly import the AOSP apps to replace them.
Looks like I could rip them from my own CM9 install and copy over via the method described in this thread - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1735507 - however it seems that the AOSP messaging is hit or miss in terms of getting MMS working properly.
I'm curious - has anyone here successfully replaced any Sense 4 apps with their AOSP equivalents? If so, what steps did you take?
Any suggestions are appreciated.
Best regards,
-Dirk
Does anyone know of a senseless ICS rom that is newer than this one? Something based off a Sense 4 base.
I would love to go the CM route, but I love my Sense Mail. No other mail apps have come close to the way it handles multiple accounts, subfolders (both imap and exchange), and even message threads/grouping.
I didn't see anything here besides the one mentioned above and some older 2.x based ROMs.
Thanks

Yes. I'm can't claim to understand everything about ROMs, but from what I've read you need Sense to have Sense Mail.
Every thread you read about someone wanting HTC Sense Mail app on their non-HTC phone or ASOP ROM, ends with something to his effect:
You need x, y or z from the Sense 'framework' for Sense Mail to work.
The Sense Mail app in Viper is great. I just want to have something with the default launcher removed, but the other stuff intact and run a different launcher.
Can I safely freeze, disable, or remove the "HTC Sense x.x.x (Desktop) without trashing my phone?
I'll also take suggestions for alternate mail apps, but they need to have the following functions;
ability to sync subfolders (exchange and imap)
an "all messages' view per account
grouped message threads
I'll attach some screenshots to try and show what I mean.
The last time I tried some of the ones out there (free and paid), I didn't get all the functionality I was looking for.
Why don't you just download an alternative launcher and leave the Sense launcher be?
And yes you can freeze things one by one to see up to what point the ROM will still be stable then simply delete them
