Somehow managed to lock up my phone last night without realizing. Now i've got a minor burn in where the notification bar clock is. Do you think asurion will fix this, or will i be shelling out 100 ?

Just take it to a repair center. They will do what Asurion does but for free. Make sure you return to stock and leave no signs of being rooted ect. I have to take my wife's Epic in today cause the space bar on the slide out keyboard cracked in half.
this late in the game id say 100 dollars. post pics so we can see how bad it it.
ill show you mine if you show us yours.

Hey guys. So I went ahead and dropped my phone in the bathroom. The battery cover popped off and the battery shot out. Anyways, after putting that back in and turning the phone on the screen won't turn on. The phone does actually start up as my boot sound plays and all the capacitive buttons light up. Also the touchscreen still works as I can "feel" my way around and still call make calls using the launcherpro swipe shortcuts I set up and can answer calls and such. So really the only thing is that the screen never displays anything.
Anyways I don't have TEP (look how smart I am!) and am going to take it into the sprint store that does repairs around here tomorrow morning to see what can be done. What I'm asking is for thoughts on what happened and advice if my device is not fixable by sprint. Do you think that the LCD is busted or did I just jiggle something loose inside? I saw a teardown video of the phone but they stopped before getting to the screen so I don't know what it is like in there. Also should I odin it back to stock before taking it in?
Lastly if all that fails does anybody have thoughts on those "mail it to us and we'll fix your phone" sites? I've seen it range from $120-$190 to fix a screen for the epic which I would be willing to pay if these places are for real.
Thanks for listening to my problems!

The only thing I can say is $190 is not worth it,you can buy one on ebay (where I bought my last 3 phones) for around $150 now I'm sure, and you can still keep yours to make phone calls, and you will have all those extras for parts, battery, what ever...

I'd try to odin first, but did you try booting into cwm? If the screen works on there, then it may just be a corruption attack of sorts.
Took it into a sprint store this morning, 1 hour and $35 later had it up and running with a new lcd. Tech said that when he tested the LCD on its own it worked fine, but not when he put it back together. He just replaced it with a different one and I was on my way, no questions asked.
I had no idea about the pricing on repairs! For not already having TEP or being eligible to put TEP on my phone anymore, $35 to fix hardware problems is a ridiculous price. That's some good service!
No insurance (just warranty) on the TMo SIII I have. TMo does not repair or replace, and Samsung wants $173 + shipping them the phone (they would not ship me a replacement to use, while moine gets fixed, ot just for them to keep mine). I could not possibly function for more than a few hours without this one, and my old phone needs a lot of apps catching up to bring back some functions I now use on the SIII, sooo ... are there any shops specialized in replacing screens on SIIIs, in/around Chicago?!? Somewhere I could walk in, and have it fixed in a few hours at the most?

W lake street
You should probably just order the parts and diy, though
Did you crack just the glass or the digitizer, too?

Thanks for the quick (and useful) reply!
It looks - indeed - like the Lake St folks are a viable (technically) option, but for that price ... I guess I'd be paying for experience in having done quite a few of those, and having nailed down the process, vs. me (to answer your other question) watching the renown video and waiting for my GF to let me use the hairdryer
As far as the screen only vs the digitizer question - from what I got the chance to read, so far, since I broke mine - it does not look like the screen is possible ro replace, as it is adhesive-sandwiched with the digitizer ... or am I wrong?!?
check craigslist
OK noob call your carrier tell them your phone won't turn on play there game to do everything they can by the book. After everything they will tell you they'll send you a warrenty replacement over night by fed-ex with a return label for you to send back defective Device. But you don't put it defective device back in the box you leave it empty but sealed then put the empty box in a fed ex location box & that's its they won't charge you extra & you have your broken phone as spare parts. That's what I did & nothing happened.

That doesn't sound legit and it could possibly get you in trouble.

make sure you make sure no lint gets inside when they replace it
I didn't say it for you to it. I said it cause that's what I did three times & nothing happened and that was a while ago but not because I crack a screen or something but only because I wanted a spare phone. You do what you want!!!
After having the phone and dropping it several times, usually only when getting out of the car, it has finally cracked tonight. Before it usually had no damage done.
So after reading, even though I have full warranty on it, they do not repair cracked phones. I did have it replaced before for free when I bricked it though.
So, if I purposely bricked the phone, would it be possible to get the free warranty replacement to get a new phone without a cracked screen?
Maybe if your lucky but no they wouldn't even change my headphone port at the store in my city because my screen is cracked

Damnit. I can't stand cracked screens (first world problems) but hey, I guess i'm leaving in January for Air Force anyways. But i'll give them a call anyways tomorrow.
I don't think they will do anything. The sprint stores will look for anything to push it to an insurance claim. My daughters LG 's battery is not holding a charge as it use to. We went to the store to get another one under warranty. The battery's moisture sticker showed exposure, but the phone one did not. Since battery showed red they too me to use insurance to replace it.
Just by living in FL, your phone gets exposed to humid conditions all the time.
Agreed.. they're probably going to kick you over to TEP or Asurion if you have it. (Not sure how it works for Sprint, wish I even had an option...)

That's what they did. Guess I have to deal with a broken screen. I was going to keep this phone until the S4 anyways.

Hey there..
So I'm an owner of the G4 for less than a year.. I had a problem with him which was that he got into a boot loop.. I've sent him to get fixed but he came back with another problem... When I scroll down the task manager or open apps with dark theme, my screen shows pinkish parts and transparent icons.. Can any of you help me to fix it?
Your screen is having an image retention issue. Its HW related and goes away only by changing the whole LCD unit.

What does it mean "screen retention"?
And you mean that I need to replace my screen?

Yes. Its HW failure. You can google lg g4 screen retention and you're not the only one.
My phone just came from service and they changed the whole display unit and frame.

Oh ok.. And I have another problem since my phone came back from the lab.. The phone charges really really really slow.. Before it used to charge from 0 to 100 in 1 and a half hours when I dont touch it.. Now it takes from 20 to 100 like 3-4 hours.. Untouched.. I dont touch the phone while it charges... So what should I do with it? send it to get fixed..? again? I'm really frustirated.. I bought this phone like 8-10 months ago.. and since the first day I'm having problems with it.. Really disapointed..
Check with os monitor or something similar that is your logd keeping your phone awake (preventing deep sleep mode).
And check your charger as well.
Recently noticed that I have burn in from the navigation and status bars. It's mild enough that I only notice it if I'm looking for it.
Is it worth sending my phone, which has no other issues, and getting some random refurbished one as a replacement? Won't it just happen again?
The only benefit I can think of is maybe ending up with a fresh battery.
After 1 year of usage, I only see a faint whiteness in place of navigation bar(not status bar). I think it is normal(I wish not) because of nature of amoled, it will burn when you left your phone with black navigation bar(when it is not translucent) for long time especially when it is hot. But ofc if you can replace easily it would be good, but danger of refurbished or other defected device I think it would be just another headache and not worth it .
i constantly check my phone for burn in, and when i see it this is what i do.
download "amoled burn in fixer"
tick navigation and status bar burn in
turn brightness all the way up (i enable high brightness in EX kernel)
and then run the inversion as the app suggest.
I sent mine in a while back, got a new device and same thing has happened to this device. I'm just going to have to live with it.
I sent mine in today for burn in (Verizon Model). It started fairly mild but it's gotten to the point where the nav buttons really bothered me. I hope I get a unlocked one back.
what i do to avoid burn in, is set immersive mode to come on whenever im using my browser (chrome). This should help the pixels refresh and prevent burn in.
edit:you also dont have to be rooted or unlocked to do this, which is a plus.
Also, the suggestion above regarding amoled screen burn in fixer does work. i did it with a used Nexus 6 i had purchased. I would run that, then set immersive mode like i suggested. if within a month or 2 you still notice bad burn in, i say you make a claim on the warranty. Might as well use it before it runs out.
It was worth it for me. They had me send in the phone only, and they sent me back a brand new one, in the box, with all the accessories.
