The mango rtm 7720 is not the final full version
its the same as the beta with a different build

so there u go..

Hmm i have the local scout and the picture optimizer with 7720

i dont jave the local scout or is it only for USA?
i am on asia HD7
this is the HTC mazaa
it looks different. I dont have the local scout and i also dont have the saturation sharpness ect in my photo app
Uploaded with ImageShack.us
Uploaded with ImageShack.us
i managed to get the local scout by changing the browser language
but the photo options still not there
Local Scout, fyi, is region dependent, I had my phone set to French/France and it was available, when I switched it to French/Belgium it was gone.
The options for pictures we see in the Mazaa, I guess they are Manufacturer related.
Don't forget that the 7720 rtm leaked is the plain OS with no Manufacturer enhancements.
Edit: on second note, while looking at the second pic: this are not pictures enhancement you are seeing but the camera parameters, lol
1. I didn't have local scout either, until I hardreset
2. I had camera settings from a firmware update not the mango update
can anyone else confirm that camera settings updated with firmware updates or os update?

i am not sure....
It is the final build and those feature are, as mentioned, region dependent.
Its the final version of Mango from Microsoft, but not the final version for your phone. What Microsoft released is different from what will be loaded onto your phones. Mango still has to be customized by carriers and optimized for specific devices by manufacturers.
So in a way, yes, this is not THE final version, but Microsoft isn't doing any more hard work on the OS (such as adding new functionality), that is left up to the carriers and manufacturers.
The camera options/parameters are something that can be customized by the phone manufacturer. Certain phones will get more advanced or just basic camera options to play around with. Just depends on what the manufacturer wants to do.
As for why certain features (like Local Scout, or Music Search) are missing, its because every feature is dependent on the region set on your phone and/or your Windows Live ID. If your region does not support the function, it does not appear.
My region is set to UK and I have local scout. FYI.
To the OP:
I'm on 7712, and I have the camera settings and local scout... Those features don't confirm "real" RTM or not. As has been said, region and manufacturer differences account for any differences between mazaa's 7720.50 and 7720.68

does anyone know if carrier optimisations will result in better performance and battery life??
because i am seeing the same battery life from beta 2 in the RTM.

It could. Remember, all the upgrade is on you phone is 7720 with NoDo drivers in it.
When your carrier releases it's update, it will come down from the OEM to the carrier for the correct drivers for the phone. So it should be tweaked and battery life could get a lot better...
Unless the carrier screws it up and then you'll just have to wait for someone on XDA here to fix it...
So, it might
Can we just delete this entire thread? It's not helpful, and it's incorrect.

You pin it from the Maps application. Local Scout is a feature of the built in Maps app, so just go into Maps, hit the Local Scout button on the bottom, and you will find an option to pin Local Scout to the start screen from within there.

Just in case anyone was wondering, the Zune client has been updated to 4.7. I don't see any live download links, looks like you need to already have the Zune software installed, and it'll auto-check for updates.
Some nice changes, and the Marketplace for Windows Phone 7 is also live so you can take a look at some of the apps currently available. This just gets me real excited.
That being said, anyone wonder why the Marketplace would be open when no devices are even available. I wonder if devices will be available sooner than we think...
Update: It looks like apps keep getting added and added as time moves on. There were only a handful of apps 10 minutes ago, and now there are a bunch more.
Update 2: Download link! The FULL Zune Client 4.7 package.
Wow, good discovery. Updating now.
edit: Whats strange is a lot of the apps are already reviewed. I dont get it o.o

Well technically the phone has been in testing/use for months now, so i'm sure those reviews are all from internal testers, developers, and the lucky few who get to test out these devices.
awesome, I will be upgrading my software tonight after work There will be phones available in the US on AT&T by Nov 8 and sooner in Europe I believe.
Does anyone have any word on how the Zune software will check it's location? I have a US Zune Pass for my Zune 80 but I'm currently living in the Netherlands (the pass is run on my American bank account). To get the Zune marketplace to show on my desktop I had to set my computer location in Windows to US.
Now the big question is: will a WP7 phone just believe my american hotmail or will it do some nasty IP checks or SIM code checks? I would love to have my Zune account directly connected to my phone, so I'm guessing this will be the deal breaker for me.

Not many apps on the marketplace. How are they suddenly going to have 2000 apps (as stated) on the app store by launch date next week? Confused.
No worries, there are still testing...think about the Netflix, IMDB, Ebay, twitter apps, they are all announced and not there. I think we will see much more 21st ongoing...

What's your country set to in windows? Maybe try changing that and reloading the zune software and see if it works?
Changing Location setting to United States worked, thanks for the great tip!
I think you need to change your computers region to a country where the marketplace is launched, e.g. UK or US.
Installed Zune Software for the first time yesterday.
I like it!
Um, I've had Zune 4.7 for a week now (or more..?).. I just clicked the update button and it did it for me.. so don't know what all the fuss is about. There was about 200 apps when I checked about 4/5 days ago, and as of last count they have 409 apps. Which certainly beats the Zune HD count of like 30 in over 1 year lol.
A few of the app's aren't displaying their picture which is annoying, but it will get there. With 4/5 days left till the launch, I'm not sure if they will get to 2000, but they most certainly are doing a decent job of going about it so far.
Some of the app's look pretty useless, and might never get used, but the xbox live games look GREAT. Can't wait to test this out in a week.
Lack of gaming apps does bother me a bit though.
EDIT: I don't know why but the Zune Software seems a bit sluggish to me now.. it can't be my computer.. its an Alienware so it's fast. Don't know why it lags at times.. it used to be speedy.

New Windows Phone Dev Tools for the next version of Windows Phone Available in May
Earlier this month at MIX we announced that we will release in May a new set of Windows Phone Developer Tools for the next version of Windows Phone. Developers can use the new tools to create the next-generation of Windows Phone apps and games, which will be faster, more capable, and more deeply integrated with the next version of Windows Phone.
The next version of Windows Phone will be available to consumers later this year and will introduce many features, such as multitasking, the best mobile Web experience with IE9 and HTML 5, support of real time communication and messaging, twitter integration with the People Hub, and a broader connectivity to Skydrive.
The new Developer Tools will allow you to write apps that make full use of multitasking via fast application switching and background agents; runtime and framework enhancements with over 1,500 new APIs and the support of Silverlight 4, access to new sensors, on-device SQL CE database, and Phone Contacts and Calendar stores; socket support to enable networking communication beyond HTTP; XNA/Silverlight Integration; and an improved Push Notification and Live Tile experience. The new Developer Tools will also include a new emulator will full support for accelerometer and GPS location data.
We are very excited about the opportunities the new release will create for developers, and we look forward to the next wave of innovation in apps and games.
For more details on the new features supported by the next version of Windows Phone and the new Developer Tools check out the MIX Webcasts!
Extended Marketplace Opportunities in the next version of Windows Phone
Also at MIX, we presented a comprehensive list of new features that will improve the Windows Phone Marketplace experience for both consumers and developers with the next version of Windows Phone.
For consumers, the new Windows Phone Marketplace experience will include an improved design with panes and more panoramas, a better search experience with autocomplete queries and search results grouped by app, music, or games sections. A new jump list and a soft-search button will make it easier to find installed apps on Windows phones. (fiinix: well, the leaked search button, that a guy by accident cam'ed (Link to post))
For developers, the new Windows Phone Marketplace experience will introduce new Beta and Private Distribution services and a more streamlined app submission flow. More details on the certification status of apps will be available in the App Lifecycle tab and an updated Dashboard will provide notifications and important performance indicators. Developers will also be able to perform more granular data analysis and filtering with the ability to export data from the download and payout reports to XML.
Finally, we will extend the reach of the Windows Phone Marketplace from 16 to 35 countries, increasing the market potential for your apps and games. The 19 new end-user countries are:
Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, Greece, Hungary, India, Japan, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Russia, South Africa, South Korea, Sweden and Taiwan. (fiinix: Yay! Netherlands and Sweden (My countries get Marketplace, no need to cross UK account anymore?))

Nice!
Chile will have full marketplace support now!
Can we imagine hackers May be port Mango on devices from the SDK tools release in May?
Thanks for the info
Will developers have access to mango beta at the same time ? I think it was mentioned in MIX 11 that there will be a beta version available for download.
I have asked the WP7 support via Twitter and they said nothing has been announced officially :-(
Anyhow I think there will be a beta version before the official, we just don't know when.

What I dont understand is if you compile an app using these new apis will we be able to test it on a device and submit it to the marketplace or do we need seperate tools and compile for pre mango without those apis and post mango?
That will be a bit ****, certainly if there is no mango for devs so we cant test on real devices.

It will be the same as when devs were given access to the emulator before the RTM release of Windows Phone. Some developers will be given Mango to test on - just like some people received developer devices.
Most of us will not be able to test the changes on devices until Mango is released. Only high-profile clients and a limited number of developers will most likely have access to a Mango build.

highly doubt that rumor is true. Microsoft nl said dutch language support will come, this is why existing users bought wp7 they promised the support coming in april with nodo but it became mango. It would be stupid not to give them the native language support after promises and delays of approx 6 months (assumin mango in september). We will get our dutch language support, thats what I read and what I believe. It wont boost sales if they will treat their customers otherwise. Just a brainless rumor and I believe they even misquoted their french source (bad translation, causes a bunch of brainless panic). Certainly in our country and the other new language supported countries being multi-lingual is very important so those languages (the current plus the native) are essential.

The 10 colors on WP7 Mango just aren't doing it for me. I'm pretty new so could anyone give me a few pointers on how to change these colors to ones of my own liking?
My info:
HTC Trophy
Verizon Wireless
Mango 7712
Edit: I probably should have posted this in Q&A I'm sorry!
If you are unlocked and running anything other than Mango 7661 than you want to install Advanced Config. This allows you to set custom themes, custom ring tones, etc.
I'm trying to unlock my device, but I'm finding it impossible since I can't send an .exe file to my phone via any email service and you cannot unzip on WP7 so how do I go about doing this?
the exe is run from the computer
read the guide before you start
the .cer is run from the phone
Can I side-load this with the new Official Chevron unlock?

ChevLab unlock, then use Heathcliff74's tool. Then you can put anything on your phone.
Well worth the $9 IMO. Only took me 30-45 minutes to go from stock mango to interop-unlocked with internet sharing, advance config, customed out.

Actually this was also the case for me, however after flashing with Ansar's 5.01 Trophy ROM, Advanced Config no longer do the trick for me.. Also Registry Editor no longer changes anything. But I've got IS working, so I'll live without Accent Color changing for a while until a new ROM gets released (DFT v2).
@Seed 2.0: You're instructing the owner of an HTC phone to use a tool that only runs on Samsung phones. Think about that one for a sec.
@e_rl: The Chevron Labs unlock will let you sideload "most" apps to your phone, but doesn't allow apps that can access high permissions (ID_CAP_INTEROPSERVICES). This includes anything like Advanced Config. For that you need "interop-unlock" which is difficult to get on HTC phones - you pretty much have to roll back to NoDo to get it right now (yes, it's a pain). You also need to have the Connection Setup app from HTC's marketplace, so don't bother rolling back if you don't. Then look up the threads on "U2M7720". It will also get you on the release build, which is a good thing - still running 7712 by now is just pointless.
Oh, by the way, the color shown in the ads is actually on the phone already, or t least on all the ones I've seen so far. It used to be called "orange" and was renamed to "mango" for this version release. Still, it's nice to be able to use truly custom colors.

Hey man i see you mention HTC phones rolling back to NODO to get interop unlocked . I was under the impression that you would have to be Pre nodo , which is impossible on the Verizon Trophy .. i think . I was led to believe that Interop unlock on the Verizon trophy at all is impossible ... are you saying that it is ? Because i still have a nodo backup and have no issue with going back to it if it means interop .
Or maybe i am misunderstanding you .. thanks for any light you can shed on the situation !
No, you only have to roll back to *some* pre-Mango build (7403, the intermediate build between NoDo and Mango, even works; it doesn't have interop-lock).
The reason for rolling back to pre-NoDo is if you needed to use the original ChevronWP7 Unlocker, which doesn't work on NoDo or newer. If you have a developer (AppHub) account, or if you use the new ChevronWP7 Labs unlocker, you can dev-unlock the phone on NoDo and then install U2M7720.
Sorry for being a pain , but im relatively new to WP7 and you just made my entire week by saying interop is possible . Could you maybe lay out a step by step ? I am currently unlocked via Chevronlabs (new one) .
Word around the Trophy section is grim and this would bring some excitement to everyone if it works .
I do not have HTC connection settings in my HTC market ... does that mean its no good now ?
Yeah, sorry - if you don't have Connection Setup then you won't be able to interop-unlock on Mango right now. It's possible another app can be used the same way, but that will require more investigation. To be honest, I've not actually used U2M7720 myself - I interop-unlocked my HD7 by upgrading to Mango during its pre-release period, and using Connection Setup - but there have been multiple reports of it working.
The trick is that Connection Setup is an interopservices app that can be run on Mango anyhow, because it's marketplace signed, but it reads a file on the device that can contain additional operations to perform while setting up your connection (the \Windows\CustClear.provxml file). Prior to Mango, you use an interop app to place that file there (numerous apps exist, U2M7720 is one such but hardly the only - you can even do it manually using TouchXplorer). Then after upgrading, you run Connection Setup and it processes the registry change instructions in the provxml file for you. This makes the required changes to interop-unlock your phone.
The catch is that the official upgrade straight from NoDo to Mango also installs an HTC update that breaks the ability of Connection Setup to use the CustClear.provxml file. U2M7720 works around this by using the beta-upgrade path, putting your phone on retail Mango but without the HTC update (it can still be installed, but installs separately). Because I upgraded my phone from the pre-release anyhow, I didn't need U2M7720. Connection Setup isn't optional, though.
EDIT: Connection Setup is now back in the Marketplace! Much rejoicing to be had.
hmmm .. so would it work if you (or some other fine xda member) uploaded the xap for connection setup? Also , I upgraded to mango during the beta prerelease as well , but then did the official update .
So even if i roll back to NODO , since i did the official update , it will still be broken ? Thats terribly disappointing .
I guess it is impossible after all .

umm.... Advanced Config originally started on HTC devices am i wrong? Samsung Focus has some mishandled exception error when launching.
@goldenpipes: It's totally possible that it did. This fact is even remotely relevant why? It's been available for, and functional on, HTC, Samsung, and LG phones for many months now, since well before Mango.

Unfortunately, after the Win32Exception error, the apps UI works, but in terms of functionality it doesnt (for me at least), it throws a whole bunch of error codes at me when I try to apply the custom accent changes...
I generally don't care so much about not being able to:
1. transfer sms and contacts TO sim
2. sync doc, txt, and pdf files, offline, through Zune
3. sync flac or divx files
4. make an offline backup of contacts or of the whole phone configuration
5. create new accent colors
6. toggle wifi/gps/3g data/bluetooth with a single tap from the home screen
7. dictate sms or other speech orders in my native language
etc...
All of the above limitations (and some more) can be tolerable at some degree because of WP7 general superiority in other levels.
BUT...
I'm really pissed off with Microsoft...They have totally abandoned open market phones...First, we had a major error with Mango for LG update, that forced some people to flash a new official rom in order to get it. I never got a tethering update for my open LG and now I don't even get the latest official 7740 update. I don't f$%^ care about carriers. I bought an officially OPEN device and I demand support, or else they can stop selling us illusions...

Blame your OEM, not Microsoft for not getting tethering. They are the ones delivering the proper drivers needed for tethering to be enabled. The feature is already built in in Mango. Concerning 7740 you're right. But it has been released when? Yesterday? No update so far has reached all users at the same time. It has always taken a few weeks until every single Windows Phone user out there received an update. Knowing that 7740 won't change much, I personally do not really care about when I will receive it.
So far I didn´t get the latest 7740 update either, but I installed it manually with cab sender.

It doesn't fix the keyboard disappearing issue, so it's pretty much useless. This is by far the biggest annoyance for me right now. Keyboard disappears 10+ times when i'm typing a SMS. And in some apps you can't bring back the keyboard by touching the input box. I have to copy/paste and try again.

You are right here, but this wouldn't have happened if Microsoft had put strict rules around its ecosystem. It's unacceptable for such a unified quality concept to have basic specs like tethering, managed almost randomly (at will) by the OEMs without Microsoft's supervision. LG has released the firmware for branded phones (so, there is no arguing here that they couldn't have released it because of hardware restrictions) and totally rejected all of those people who have open phones. WHO controls this type of marketing anarchy around one of the most innovative, popular products of the world?
I'm shocked by this management attitude, because I'm a Microsoft customer for over 18 years and I know very well that they are aces in product support. As I mentioned earlier, ιn my first post, this is not the only fault Ι've been through and I'm looking forward to see this company measuring its actions with responsibility and care but, right now I'm totally disappointed.

I have made one in the specific LG e900 forum as well, because I use an open LG device, so, the discussion exists in two places to be seen by people who have as well as those who don't have an LG device, but they do have an open device with similar problems.

That would be post number three then... Sometimes i dont understand why there is all this hate on this board. Isnt this supposed to be where people come together to innovate and find new ways to use their devices? Not to complain about what they have without contributing anything...
I was referring to this thread, about 10 down from this one...but carry on, I thought it was groundhog's day.

i don't understand this thread. is there any actual evidence that they're abandoning open market phones?
After playing briefly with WP7 I decided i wanted to try it out more officially so I picked up a Focus from cowboom and after 4 days with it here's my thoughts.. I am coming from a CM7 Captivate BTW
Hardware is super nice, screen is gorgeous, battery life rocks, and the gps is dead on (something im not used to on my captivate).. no complaints here at all
Software is great to use, I have 1st gen and ZuneHD so I knew id love that.. the transitions and effects are fantastic touches... but
A. maps is garbage: couldnt even find a store one block from me ( gave results in MS instead) still trying to find a good replacement app.
B. is there a way to have keyboard vibrate when on silent?
C. Only microsoft would install updates one at a time and restart over and over between.
D. Google Calenders wont sync right, I have several calenders i use from my account but it only shows me the default one. Any fix for that?
over all im really impressed, still trying to find apps to replace/match my android setup... but now i really want to be able to dive deeper into the hacks but it seems Chevron option has disappeared.. for now..

@D - I don't think is possible still.
@A - are you using bing?
@C - yes.
@B - i'm not sure, but I would imagine so?
So basically I have no idea. And I've had it for over a year.
A. Bing is getting better, but it is still no replacement for Google (at least for me). For example, I have two Costco stores in my area. One is about 4 miles from my house, the other is about 20 miles. Until about a month ago, searching for Costco would always try to direct me to the more distant one, even though the closer one has been around much, much longer. (Disclaimer - of course, I have no trouble finding Costco, but it was a good barometer of the incompleteness of Bing data in my area).
B. I don't know of any way to turn on haptic feedback from the keyboard when the phone is silenced.
C. Yeah, I suppose the update process still has room for improvement.
D. Contrary to Microsoft's official statements that only your primary Google calendar is supported, you can sync secondary and shared calendars on your phone. Here is a link with instructions (they are a bit arcane, but they do work - I have three calendars syncing to my phone right now):

A: agreed
B: no
C: what? As far as I know, Android update process wipes the phone, thus deletin all user data, and you complain about the update process?
D: fix it on stupid googles side, head over to m.google.com/sync and select calendars you want to sync, it´s their problem, EAS is open protocol, they have changed it, blame them

Android update doesnt delete anything flashing between roms you have to but that is what TiBu is for.
when i go to m.google.com/sync from the phone it doesnt have anything there to select. Can this work from IE, the directions in prev post say Safari but i feel that was copied from iphone directions.
No, the instructions are very clear. You must use Safari (from your PC), because it allows you to set the user agent to appear as an iOS device. It will not work from Firefox or IE. Again, follow the instructions exactly as described in the article I linked and you will see your calendars.
[Edit]
I think I see the source of confusion. It says to use Safari on your "device". For "device", in that case, substitute "PC". So, to sum up:
1 - Make sure you have set up a Google account on your phone to sync your primary calendar, and that it is working properly.
2 - Follow the Safari instructions on your PC to find and enable your secondary calendars (and be sure to remember to click the "Save" button on the page).
3 - Force a manual sync of your Google account on the phone to confirm that the additional calendars are syncing.

Thank you for that, I recognized the steps from when I had an iphone and when it said "from your device" I assumed it meant that, just as it did with an iphone.
any one have tips on unlock codes since chevron is out of them?
Also is there a way to disable screen rotation?
I wouldn't go as far as saying that Bing maps is garbage. It tends to find everything I'm looking for in my area and in metro St Louis when I was there back in August. However it can't seem to find the pizza hut in my town that opened in June but neither can google maps or the pizza hut app.

I live in a mid sized suburb of the 3rd largest city in the US. it's expanding so if its not fully developed in Poland it will very soon be. Especially since the deal with NAVTEQ/Nokia.
Bing Maps doesnt have business hours, something I miss the most.

Android updates typically do not wipe the phone. I've done like 4 updates on this phone and none of them got wiped. I don't know what you're talking about.

I think that's because they pull data from that crappy CitySearch.com, instead working together with someone that does it better or building their own repository.
As for the OP's prob with GPS, didn't people say that gMaps app in the marketplace is good?

Ah, well I suppose you can either shell out money for a full blown GPS program offered like Telenav, or Navigon; buy a chevronlabs unlock token and put nokia drive on your phone; or wait for Telenav's html5 solution that'll probably be out in a few months.
UPDATE: Chevron and interop unlocked, battery percent tile, tethering enabled.. all simple touches but have made great improvements
did notice one issue.. when looking up a phone number in IE, clicking on it does not bring up the dialer.. is this always true? any fixes for that?
