I am fully rooted had VR KINGDOM BETA 1 did a nand backup tried to save some space on my phone using Calkulins (Firerat) custom recovery mtd and boot custom mtd follolwed all instructions went to reboot now phone hangs on splash screen. Tried to restore a previous backup of Mikfroyo 4.62 using same procedure it hangs on boot anim...I still have access to recovery amon ra 2.3 on phone but I am lost as to how to get my phone up and running again...was at work all day sick to stomach thinking I have f-d my phone up...PLEASE PLEASE SOMEONE HELP ME
What you can do is a clean wipe, then restore the backup, flash the rom over itself, or do a clean wipe, and then flash a new rom. Did you rename the backup?
Here are my thoughts, you probably wiped the ROM when you modified your partitions and you never flashed a new ROM so you have nothing to boot into. Another thought is maybe the nandroid you are restoring has partitions that are too big/small for your new partition sizes and they can't be restored and/or nandroids are not compatible once you modify the partition sizes. I would just try to flash a new ROM image and see if it boots.
Boot into recovery, wipe data/factory reset, cache, dalvik cache , and sdext. Then restore your backup of mikfroyo and reboot. Let it sit and be... patient

I would assume that since he's not getting an error when restoring, that he didn't improperly rename it.
OK GUYS first off HUGE THANKS for quick reply !!!! I have done complete wipes, flashed Kingdom backup...nothing... I even had the PC36IMG.zip of Sprint lovers Rom and tried that cuz it has saved my EVO before but when I tried the update it unzipped all but system update ...said "fail uz" on bootloader screen. Is there any way to get that calkulins off my phone. Oh and at one point when I booted into recovery from bootloader it said at bottom E:/ Can't open cache. Only Mik backup is named...Kingdom is named what amon ra put ( date time)...PLEASE HELP ABOUT TO CRY!!!!
Did you try to flash a new ROM via recovery?
When I tried to restore Mik backup it got as far as the boot anim then screen times out. Only Rom I have on my phone to flash is the VR KINGDOM BETA. I am using my gf EVO shift to post guys please be patient with me...just want my EVO back!!!!
Is it possible to download a Rom to gf phone and put on sdcard to flash to my phone or will I lose recovery without MY EVO sdcard...she is not rooted
When I flash a new Rom do I have to do all the steps for the calkulins recovery and boot custom mtd...I would like to just get rid of it. I have used calkulins method in the past with no probs...so why now and why can't I even use the PC36IMG.zip Sprint lovers !!!!! You can flash from her card. Your recovery is not stored on your sd card
If you go to your amon, and choose the usb option, second choice I believe, it will mount your phone to your computer as disk drive and you can transfer a ROM from your computer.
Will download a Rom now and try...will let you know....BIG THANKS!!!

Yea its not hard, as some users have issues with clockwork. Just be sure to make a backup immediately as your can't restore CWM, and make a wimax backup.
Pretty comfortable with amon been using since Dec.'10 when I got EVO and root. Downloading Mik 4.62 now...wish me luck guys...will let you know.!!!
Ok good, you're welcome and good luck, post any problems... but remember, be patient... if it isn't bootlooping, it means is working! ( Assuming it gets to the bootanimation)

Well im Coming from RC1 senergy but when i try to newer ROM i get stuck on the white screen i wiped everything but the data do i really need to wipe the data ?
sometime u need to wipe everything 3times when going from rom to rom give it try again wipe 3times

You should switch to Amon Ra. I REALLY need to put a link to it in my signature, but get the PC36IMG.zip file of Amon Ra in the development section, put it on your SD Card and reboot with Vol dwn\Pwer. When it comes up, it'll scan and ask if you want to update. Hit pwr up for yes, then it will flash Amon Ra.
Then the phone will reboot, and do that scan again, this time say no. and you will get to recovery.
Go to Wipe, then hit wipe All User Data/Factory Reset.
Then wipe each sub category EXCEPT the one that says SD Card. Just don't wipe that one, or it will erase your card.
When you've done that, flash your ROM. Sadly, the backups you did with CWM are useless now, but you shouldn't have this problem again.
Also, if you are using ROM Manager, don't.

If you've done a complete wipe, it is beneficial at times that you reformat your card and update your radios prior to flashing Synergy. Doing those two things often results in a successful flash of that particular rom. If you decide to reformat your SD card, please be sure to transfer the contents of it to your computer or external disk drive first.

Sorry, I got away from my computer.
If you have a card reader, just take the card out of your phone and use the card reader, or if you have a different phone you can put it in for a few mins to get the file.
You DO have recovery now, right?? CWM??
Does CWM have usb-toggle so you can connect to you computer in recovery?

yes it do have that, i think i have recovey , when i push recover it ask me t pick one , i do n the phone just reboot to the evo white screen.( im lose) ... thats another thing when i try to get the file i get a blank page?????/

got an htc evo long time ago and rooted it well im running clockword mod recovery v3.0.0.5 and i used it to unzip honeycomb_dreams_v1.1.zip and i did wipe everything first and it rebooted and went to the splash screen of evo 4g and then went black and nothing ever happened after tht so my friend messed around with it and formatted my sd card and wiped a start up something and now it wont work at all and i dont know what to do now all i can get into is revovery now and so i need help thank you for any advice tips or anything! i have S-off and fully rooted. i also used revolutionary to root if that helps

You need to put a rom on your sd card and wipe all and flash it. Don't unzip anything either. At least you can get into recovery, that's a good thing. If that doesn't work you might need to run the newest ruu from your pc.

@evo4noob i dont have any files on SD card it got wiped when my "friends" formatted it and ill try it anyway lol thanks dude
also when i tried to reboot after flashing honey comb after my friends wiped boot up or something all that it goes to is hboot screen and then i can get into recovery but my white evo 4g screen doesnt even show up now O.0... i really dont kno what to do now

If you mount in recovery you can download a new rom then just put it on your sd card
dude when i put it on and it says its done installing enjoy honeycomb and i reboot it it goes to my hboot screen the one with andoid guy at the bottom now matter what and idk why
so my friends formatted my boot from clockworkmod recovery also i think this why it wont go to my start up at all only hboot screen

Okay do this exactly first power off the phone take the battery out and put it back in.Next hold down the power button and volume down until it takes you to the bootloader then highlight recovery and press power down then while in clockwork recovery plug your phone into your computer.Next go to mounts and look for Mount Usb storage. After you enable usb storage your computer should read it. Next look for a rom you like from XDA and download it. Then go to my computer and move the Rom you just downloaded onto the phones sd card (not in any folders).Next disable usb storage. And the rom will be on your sd card then wipe cache and dalvik cache then flash the rom. (dont unzip the rom)

ok cool my friend sent me a link for and energy one its like 2.3.3 with sense 3.5 on it so imma try tht and then to a nandroid back up so this never happens again

CM7 is very fast and stable, also kinged shooter and Xplod by team Nocturnal are great roms.
I was wondering f you got this working? As long as you can get in to recovery mode you are good...
Hi Guys, I hope I don't get flamed for asking this but how do you install a custom ROM from this website on Evo4G? I have downlaoded the ROM and also the ROM manager but when I go in the ROM manager and browse to the folder on the SD Card where I have copied the un-zipped version of the ROM files, it never lets me select anything.
Please help.
Without being rude, just Google "how to flash a Rom on evo 4G". There are links to threads here as well as other sites. If youre not the kind of person who's used to researching this stuff first I'd recommend staying away from flashing and XDA.
You don't want to unzip the ROM
Weird as it may seem, the Recovery flashes (installs) files in .zip format, it's just the way everything works on android.

Make sure you search before you post, that being said if you need to download the rom and put it on your micro sd card! DO NOT unzip! you need to flash the zipped file!
That being said if you are using rom manager go to install zip from sd card chose the file! make sure you wipe the data cache and dalvik and hit okay and let your phone do its thing from there! during this process leave your phone alone and come back to it after it finished flashing and reset! and at any point of the process NEVER take out your battery!

Thank you both. That was indeed the missing piece, do not unzip the ROM! Let me give it a shot.
SMH are you even rooted? First you need to root your device Google "root evo 4g xda (insert hboot version here)" then Google "Amon RA evo4g xda" then backup your current rom then wipe everything except SD card and batterystats in amon RA wipe menu, go back to main menu to install zip from SD locate your zipped up rom and select then select to install then reboot and profit

SMH, Yes, I am rooted. I just didn't know how to use ROM Manager. SMH again.
Thank you everyone who took the time to read this thread. I now have the ROM of my choice running!
So I was able to lean how to root my phone. The I decided I would load a custom rom that I got from one of the rom tools that was suggested here. I loaded it, it got stuck on the loading screen. So I tired to use philz to do a recover and it says there is nothing to recover. every stock rom I get on this form will not load. the only option I have is to load the zip file to my sd card and then try to load it from the sd card. so now what? right now im completely out of a phone

i was quite tired last night and wanted to put more info in the post here on what i did. So this custome Rom I cant remeber the name of it but it had to do with the little android dressed up as a viking, i got as a recommentdation from the applicatio cybermoid or something to that nature. So when it attempted to load the rom it when to the boot up screen and just sat there, So i figure I would do one of the clock work mods recoverys that I had on my sd card and it failed to load. So at one point Philz asked me if i wanted to wipe the current rom and replace it with a new one. So i said yes figring that I could load the stock rom and it said that loaded. So last night I stayed up and tried to load 3 different roms and they all failed to load. Im wondering an this point if there is anything that can be loaded. I do remeber at one point it came up with a screen that said oden mode and said voided warrenty. i dont have a warrenty so i disregarded that. I will try the rom that you have suggesst tonight, I really hope that I can get some type of ROM on there. Beacase right now it just goes to the galaxy note 2 screen and sticks there.
Is there a manual key sequence or command line that can be run for my skipsoft tool kit that i used to root it to automatically turn on the us debugging? Also remember seeing a message that states that the root was removed. I think in in a hot pile of dog poop and this point, Any other suggestion if that rom doesnt load???

That rom is already rooted just wipe everything but the external sd or sd1 but wipe the sd that is internal dont wipe the modem either and it should boot no problem as long as you wiped everything

How do you check to see if the modem is wipped?? i know it cleared off both the sd and sd1
If you did just the rom might have it in there if not just download and flash it its just like flashing a rom and its ok if you wiped both just download the rom put it on your sd1 and flash it in recovery I use philz

Ok so drop the ROM on the SD card, obviously plug it in go to recovery mode via the volume up/home/power key then selected it SD card and it sould load automatically. This is going to sound stupid but the ROM has to be zipped on the SD and not unzipped correct? If I get a error meaage I will post it here. I will probley be doing this around 5 pm or 6 as I am at work at the moment.
Sorry to be such a newbie..lol rooting it was easy if and when I get back into it I will put the full name of the ROM that blew it up because I dont want to have anyone else to go through this.

Download the rom
Wipe everything but the sd1 and the modem
Flash the rom
And let it boot
And let me know what happens
did all that and it is just sitting on the Samsung galaxy note screen
so for this one http://goo.im/devs/philz_touch/CWM_A...6-t0lteatt.zip it loaded it and then got suck on the main galaxy note 2 screen.

Ok wipe everything again like you did and then reboot the recovery and when you hit reboot recovery it will say something about running the root process or something just hit no and flash the rom that will work sorry forgot about that step my bad man it takes ALOT to mess up this phone trust me lol

No do everything on the phone don't use Odin so in the recovery go to mounts and storage and
wipe the system, data, preload, cashe, boot, and sd card but not the sd1 (external sd) and reboot the recovery in power options and hit reboot recovery and hit no when it says something about supersu root process then when it reboots just hit install zip and find the rom you downloaded

ok so
1)factory data reset
2)wipe cache partition
3) go to advanced and wipe the dalvik cache
4) then I went to the sd card and installed the zip you gave me, it says install from the sd completed press any key to continue
5) when to power options and hit reboot to recovery
then it asks me if I want to restore the recovery settings from the card or no - I said yes
then it asks me if I want to apply the root from /system/xbix/su- I said no
it rebooted back to philz touch
now what??? I assume install rom zip..
what is the correct ROM download that I should use... ive downloaded so many if you can point me to the right link that would be steller
