hello everybody,
first i am not sure if it is the right place to post this thread but as you see it is my first post here
i just bought Wildfire S (S-on) and i really need to root it and i search about it ,
i understand that to root my device first thing to do is to S-off it and the only available way now is the XTC-Clip
something i am not sure about that i can change the ROM while the security is on (S-on)
so my question .. if i downgrade the OS from 2.3 to 2.2 for example .. or if i find an already rooted ROM .. can i use it and by this way my device will be rooted or what ??
You can only root your phone when it's S-OFF.
Step 1 : S-OFF with XTC Clip
Step 2 : patch bootloader
Step 3 : root your phone with patched bootloader
Step 4 : flash ROM
See this post for more informations : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1195275
It's the only way.
Wildfire S never had 2.2 was released with 2.3
^ Yesh! so you cant.
thx guys for the clarification

HBoot Version:
0.85.0008
Radio Version:
26.04.02.17_M2
Kernel version:
2.6.32.21....
Software number:
1.34.707.5
sorry for my bad english!!!! :-"
Please post what is on your phone now? Kernel version? build number? Software number? Hboot version? Radio? No one here can help untill you give as much info as possible. And Im not quite sure I understand what you said about root, did you have s-off before and now you have s-on, or have you always had s-on? What did you do to " formated to factory" exactly? What did you flash, RUU???
More Info Please.

Again if you were already rooted with S-off , and you say you did a factory reset , what exactly did you do to "factory reset"?????? In your first post you said you had perm root before, so this means you would have had S-off, meaning in order to get S-on you would have had to unroot your phone. How did you root your phone the first time??? What did you do to unroot your phone now???????? Doing a factory reset would not unroot your phone. So my guess is you never rooted the first time. So that means you must be doing something wrong in the rooting process, as far as I know your version is rootable, what methods have you tried and exactly what steps have you done in the processes.
I wonder if the 1.74 RUU worked at least enough to change the phone back to S-ON, and as has been discussed the 1.74 stuff can't be rooted using normal methods.
I might suggest this for help:

HBOOT-1.03.0003
Radio-5.11.05.27
advanced applogies for a newb question if it is, im more of Windows Mobile/ Windows Phone/iOS person, - Chevron/Jailbreaking them seems far easyr.
Is there a way to Root this thig with HBOOT-1.03.0003 and Software: 2.29.405.14 ???
This is a question. Y u no post in questions forum?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=689
Reported.
i cant find anything in Q&A about HBOOT-1.03.0003
i have tried UnrEVOked 3.32.
i know someone will flame me for asking this, i expected it... if u havent noticed i been with this forum since 2007, and i do know how to use Q&A and i would not be asking a question if it was a simple matter...
unless u can point me to the right tool or guide for HBOOT-1.03.0003 with S-ON, u can save flaming to yourself
Sorry to bring you a bit of bad news... the official HTC S-OFF is a real *****! There's no patch for HBOOT-1.03.0003 out there yet and I don't know if there will ever be one. You can try writing to the guys doing Revolutionary (i.e. Alpharev and Unrevoked) and see if they plan on patching this new HBOOT version.

Yeah, if he has one. IIRC goldcard was only an instrument in rooting branded phones? The error code would mention incorrect CID or something like that.
Sent from my HTC Desire using Tapatalk
Goldcard didnt work, it says somthing like no image or wrong image after a bar on right hand side goes up....
also quick question is Reversing CID from CMD is just like 12a456 to 654a21 or is it something else, coz http://hexrev.soaa.me/ gives me some other result.
aka my CID from cmd is
1e41425553442xxxx0058003fd00a5f6 so reverse shuld be
6f5a00df3008500xxxx24435552414e1
and then replace first too with 00
but that site gives me 00a500fd038005xxxx2044535542411e
im a litttle confused :s

You need to unlock bootloader from htcdev then you will be able to root.
Sent from my HTC Wildfire S using xda premium
he has s-off , no need for unlocked bootloader ! just run root from superoneclick found at here ... you'll guide yourself after downloading the file believe me ! It is the easiest rooting tool i ever seen !
Must be some kind of problem if he's s-off and it says locked oow.
Just double check in your bootloader and confirm if it says s-off or s-on.
If your s-off as I am then it should not say anything about locked or unlocked.
It looks like you successfully updated the bootloader [*** LOCKED (OOW) ***] but didn't finish the procedure at htcdev to get it unlocked. But in any case, it should root because you have S-OFF already.
SuperClick Root thing doesnt worl.
And yes and it is s off
have you tried zergrush, too?
Another theory would be, that the locked bootloader "overwrites" the S-OFF behavior somehow. You have 2 choices.
1) flash a hboot 1.08.0000 or whichever you want that is not from htcdev
or
2) finish the htcdev process and get your bootloader unlocked.
Hello i'm the person vinnyt is talking about, that is having the problem with rooting the HTC Wildfire S, it is a marvelc cdma phone from Metro pcs (USA service). I first used HTC Wildfire S - Unlocking Bootloader by Mstechify on youtube and i did this like the 2nd day i had my wildfire s and the first time i had an htc, so i had no idea about htc dev at the time, but anyway i did this method and i followed all the steps until the end when the program tells you to press any button to reboot, what i did was unplugged the phone but i noticed i was not rooted so i went to the the boot loader and noticed it said locked oow and it said s off so i tried almost all the root methods and tried to use htc dev, and htc dev just tells me that its the wrong RUU program so i don't know. Guys please help me all I want to do is temp. root to remove bloatware please help. thanks.
You need to unlock bootloader!
how do i unlock it

Did you tried out the the HTCDev.com Process.
HTCDEV.COM --> Choose Model --> Update HBOOT --> Now says "Locked OOW"
---> then Get the Token as directed by the HTC DEV.Com --> paste the token in textbox in htcdev.com ---> you got "unlock_token.bn" --> flash that using "fastboot" --> you got as "*** UNLOCKED *** ",
I hope that there is Nothing bother about S ON or Soff., My device is S-ON but Hboot is in "Unlocked" state, I already Flashed out Custom ROMS . Try out that
if you are s-off use simonsimons utility to unlock your bootloader and fastboot flash a custom recovery, then flash the superuser zip for full root
Everything you need to know about this phone follow the link below.

My girlfriend hope to remove some build in unnecessary app.
so i try to root her wildfire s.
But problems appear.
I am able to unlock the phone: from unlock to lock.
but then my hboot version change from. 1.08 to 1.08.0999
and keeping s-on
then I can no longer s-off it anymore.... Help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
First of all welcome to xda!
And second of all.....if you don't have a CDMA version of the Wildfire S....You CANNOT S-OFF it with a software for now.....there is a hardware called XTC-Clip which can S-OFF the phone but its too costly(check here)
And BTW unlocking the bootloader is enough for rooting the phone
If you looked around a bit you could have found about 20 similar threads......if you are new it doesnt mean everyone is new......people will just freak out looking at this thread
So please search before posting
About s-off
Sorry about that, I do search for long time about root. But since my hboot version is 1.08999 I cannot flash any recovery into my phone as they are all for version 0.9. Other say My version : unlocked hboot 1.08999 s-on is already mean s-off but I cannot flash any recovery to the phone....=[

we need more information.
what hboot are you on?
what rom version?
what guides have you tried already?
what errors did you encounter?
S-OFF allows you to flash radio and all stuff,
using HTCDev (S-ON) method, and after root your device,
you'll be able to flash rom's, CWM's, but not to flash radio.
I've my WF rooted, but no S-OFF, and I can flash all these soft's
(I've a custom rom installed)
S-OFFing Buzz
My device didn't Unlocked by the HTCdev coz it showed errors.
I followed the Full Guide S-OFFing Rooting & Sucessfully got S-OFF using REVOLUTIONARY few months ago...
(the GoldCard step tortured me alot but finally I got through it)
Thanks...
I have s off but find it no easier to root my wildfire, tried all methods and hit brick walls!
