[Q] SIMLOCK option in hboot - G2 and Desire Z Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello, I found SIMLOCK option in hboot menu.
What does this feature?
What happens if I select it?
Thank you.

I would also want to know this man!
I was about to click on it but first I want to know what it does so it doesn't mess up anything!

I already did it, but didn't found any good description about this option.
My son accidentally chose this option. Phone displayed the message, like this:
Code:
FAT32 init OK
Open MCCMMC file fail
Open CID file fail
Process done, reboot device?
So, I don't know... Did this option made some changes in the phone?
What this option does?

It locks the phone to only be able to be used with the SIM card currently in the device.

[Q] HBOOT Menu: SIMLOCK

I was reviewing HBOOT menu on my HTC Desire. I clicked SIMLOCK option and received the following message:
FAT32 init OK
Open MCCMMC file fail
Open CID file fail
Process done, reboot device?
What is the process done above? Did this process modify anything on my phone? What exactly SIMLOCK does?
Thanks.
You wasn't reviewing then, you was messing around and potentially buggering your phone up!
Simlock is where your phone will only accept one networks Sim card. It didn't find the files needed so doesn't seem to have done anything though.
Here's a tip - don't mess if you don't know what you are doing.

Otherwise you have a one way ticket to a (potentially) bricked phone
Ok guys, I shall stay away from this part of the phone
What I understand is that Simlock option tries to modifyp the phone's Simlock status with some files in MMC and CID file (custom created in most of the cases to unlock the phone etc.). Since there is no such file found in MMC, this process did not modify/delete anything in my phone. Is this the case?

Thats what it appears to have done yes.
Thanks for the advise.
With the proper files in place this should allow us to lock our phones to our specific SIM?
Well no to a specific carrier which is more of an option for operators to lock a device than for you I believe
And to those who blamed op for playing around seriously it is not much you can do on the phone or bootloader for that matter as long as it is stock it is not like HTC provides you with the option to manage anything apart from flashing stock roms
ok... i did the same foolishness...and got the same reply on my phone... bt i guess it did manage to lock it... not totally though... coz when i switch sim cards... and turn on the data connection on my phone ... my phone hangs up... bt when i dont have the data connection switched on.. it wroks well... and when i put that sim which i waS Using while pressed the sim lock button... it works well and fine .. even with the data connection on.... you can read the threads i've posted reguarding this here

if this doesnt work... jus goto my profile and search for the THREADS i've started...
thank i have dne the same think
any solution to this problem??
I did same thing today and thought my phone would be a brick, lucky me.
Luckily it always fails. I managed to accidentally hit it once too. It is too easy to start it imho. Slight drop in concentration and there you go, you bricked your phone.

So is my phone bricked???
Sent from my HTC Wildfire using XDA App
I doubt this causes your phone to brick. I tried it also with my Wildfire. It could not find the required files and just rebooted. My guess is it doesn't matter if you select it by accident.

agree with you did the same no probs
I'm guessing it'll allow all SIM's including AT&T etc but Not one Single person on the XDA forums seems to know how to use AT&T on our HTC's.
They support the 1900Mhz GSM band but it's "LOCKED" so you can't get voice or data period.
Is there a legitimate way to Carrier unlock HTC Phones?
I have my specific IMEI unlock code to get it to work supposedly but no one has any idea how.............
Thanks

You are trying to SIM-unlock your phone?
Don't use the boot menu (where there is the sim-unlock option), I'm not sure what that's for but it's not needed.
If you use the recommended root method, one of the side effects will be that your phone will also be sim-unlocked. This is what I'd recommend.

I rooted my phone using visionary and terminal and some files..rage and stuff I don't remember lawl..
Thanks guy!
On the same page I linked above there are instructions for running gfree verify which will query the phone to determine the status of sim-unlock.

The Fast Boot option has been removed by HTC since the guide was written, so don't worry about that.
You can get SuperSU from here.

Correct. But I would uninstall HTC Sync. The drivers will remain.
HTC Sync doesn't play nice with ADB, and after the drivers are installed it is pretty much useless

Transfer it to your internal storage. By root directory, it means just to the storage and not in a folder. Just drag and drop it to your phone's storage with the Windows file explorer

Lock Screen Missing Features

Hello everyone. I have recently discovered that my LG G3 (32 GB model, running Android 5.0) has some missing features in the lock screen. The "None" feature which disables the lock screen completely was missing but for some reason it showed up when I deleted the Guest in my phone. I also know from various photos on the internet that the LG G3 has a function where you can unlock your phone by letting it recognise your face. This "Face Recognition" feature is also missing and I haven't managed to find a way to get it back. Can someone help me?

Face Recognition is removed from most of phones nowadays, because easily somebody else can unlock your phone with his face..
And as I've seen some companies are developing this feature.
For the "none" i think in 5.0 LG removed it.(I'm not really sure about that)well you can use "swipe" for now.
Also why don't you upgrade to 6.0?It has the "None" for the lock screen and also it has really great performance!
Yeah well I've tried to upgrade it to Marshmallow but I don't know how. I tried LG pc suite but that didn't work. Do you know how to do it?

No there is no need to Root your device.Only follow the guide that i made.
Okay! Now that I got back my computer I can do it. I just have one more question. My phone will be updated by installing custom roms? Will that wipe off my phone's guarantee? Because it lasts for two more years and I don't want to lose it now.

Root on Unlocked Version?

Hello,
So I bought the HTC 10 directly from their store a few months ago, and have been considering to root it. The thing is that when I look up the Model Number on the HTC, it say "HTC 10" as well, no info. Is there a way to find it's actual MN if it's hidden (as I assume)?
Let me know if there's any other info needed. Thank you in advanced.

You'll need fastboot.
Reboot into download mode (hold volume down and restart the phone), and from your computer type
Fastboot getvar all
Your model number will be listed as MID.
Or, if you bought it from HTC directly and haven't modified anything you'll be able to tell by the software number in the phone's settings. It'll be something like 2.x.y.z. The three digit y number will be something like 617 (u.s unlocked, model ID 2PS65000) or 401 (wwe, model id 2PS62000), for example.
But you don't really need to know that to root. You just need to unlock your bootloader using HTCdev website and then follow instructions for root on xda.

Honestly I'm not very good at troubleshooting adb issues. I would suggest you follow instructions on the HTCdev website for bootloader unlocking, they tell you how to install fastboot. Else there are tons of guides on xda or YouTube.
Also make sure you disable HTC Sync Manager on your pc, if you have it.

No you don't need it. Just make sure you have htc drivers. One way of doing that is, I believe, is to install htc sync manager but then remove it while keeping the drivers.

I successfully got the bootloader unlocked, installed latest TWRP, but upon installing the supersu the forums made to bypass dm_verity and the forceencrypt, it went into a bootloop.
There was a red message saying something among the lines of, "This is for developers only..." and whatnot, and simply kept looping.
Thankfully I made the backup, so I restored it. But I'm stuck at the SuperSU part.
If anyone knows why it is doing this, please let me know.
I should also point out, twrp was able to decrypt my phone's data when creating the backup, so not sure if this would mean I need to intentionally install an older TWRP, just so with that version, they fail decryption.
Sorry for bothering, got it working. Have Nougat, so I didn't knew I needed another different SuperSU

Yeah, thank you for your help, btw.
Only current issue I'm having is trying to set up Adaway, since it requests S-Off. (Which I'm concerned of, since idk if doing so and letting the app do it's thing would unencrypt the data) So wondering it it's wise to do so.

Why is Adaway asking for S-Off? Not even sure it should be able to see your s-on/s-off state. Root access is all that it should be requesting.
S-off with sunshine won't touch your data partition. But I wouldn't pay for S-Off just because Adaway is asking you to.

Oddly, it went and started working now, at first it requested to create something that required S-Off. Hmm, perhaps I must of tweaked something for it to no longer need that.
I have one more doubt, but I feel this one may be better to be done as a new thread instead.
