Any way to flash modem in cwm? - Epic 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

The USB charging port on my epic is completely broken, i took it to sprint and they wouldnt fix it unless i gave em 100$. So i got them to give me another battery and external charger which is actually pretty cool.
But i was gonna flash the eg22 modem and realized i couldnt , no ODIN. Is there anyway to do this with my phone?
Sent from my SPH-D700 using Tapatalk

Nope. The only cwm modem upgrade was eb13/di18 to ec05...Once the final gb gets an ota we should be able to cwm to that modem though

Im not sure why this went in the themes forum. Sorry ! And thanks for the answer , ugothakd

Out of curiosity why cant we use redbend_ua to flash modem.bin to bml12

Question base band version

Is there anyway to change the base band version by flashing a modem from cwm instead of using odin?
I'm having trouble connecting my phone to my computer and this happened after I went to eh 17 so I want to go to ec05
Anyone know if there is a flashable ec05 zip?
I may be wrong but I thought there actually was a flashable EC05 version because it wa an actual official release. I will dig around a bit and ask a few people. I am using EC05 modem on Gingerbread right now and its working very well for me

thanks a lot for your reply.
i was looking for it but cant find it. i honestly want any modem not nesesarily ec05 cuz if i could just get my usb to work which i think eh17 could b the problem i will just odin my phone to stock and do whatever i want to it
if you could help me find it it would really be appreciated.
and just something i thought of.. when ec05 came out it was released ota and in the "update.zip" way so if i could find the update.zip fild for it would it also change the baseband version or no?
Good question. I know the ReRFS ROM takes you back to stock EC05 but I am not sure if it switches the modem. I will check my copy and report back

No unfortunately it doesn't. But John it would be great if you found it. I think we both looked for this once before for somebody. There were older EC05 ROMs like Bonsai that would update your modem to EC05 but only if coming from EB13 or DK28.

I was looking last night and came across that rom. It didn't change the modem tho.
But something I just kind of figured out was I can flash froyo roms on a GB modem? I thought it wouldn't work. After I flashed the rerfs rom for ec05 I flashed syndicate rom and its working perfect now even tho I'm on a GB modem?
But still the computer won't connect to my phone.
I also tried using a different phone to make sure the usb does work and it worked on a different phone. I tried to see if my memory card might b the problem but no it wasn't. this rom I'm on now is good but I would like to odin my phone just to b safe then return to this.
And I'm just wondering did this happen to anyone else? Is anyone else running eh17 and having usb problems?

Oh thanks. I didn't know that.
Another thing I was thinking about is the cwm flashable deodoxed eh17 modem. Would that change the modem or just the rom..? I had the same thing for ee03 I think it was but I deleted it since so many newer leaks came out. Do you think that would work?

Updateing used epic

Searched and searched. Bought a used in great shape epic for my son for christmas and I wanted to set it up on cleanGB like I have mine and the wifes set up (very stable an fast). I odined it back to stocj ec05 and when it prompted to update it failed. So I tried the update.zip for ei22 thru recovery and it also failed. I've seen a thread here for the same problem but I couldn't find the thread. If some one could point me in the rite direction to get it to ei22 I would greatly appreciate it.
I have everything saved on my pc to root and apply all the fixes (gps, keyboard) and to root I just need to get the phone to that point first.
Thanks
Sent from my SPH-D700 using xda premium
You could odin in the recovery (ACS or CWM) while on EC05, then flash the EC05 to EI22 Modem zip file (somewhere in thee dev forum), then flash CleanGB.
Edit: I am pretty sure that the only reason you want the OTA update is to get the EI22 modem.

Mine won't update from EC05 either. I have to go back to DG27 which I got from the wiki thread.

did it update rite to EI22 that why or did it go thru the other updates first?
Forgive me for this question but why would you even want to wait on the OTA update if you are just going to flash an EI22 ROM over it? With EC05 (and backwards) you could even do the 1-click root method and not even mess with Odin.
Am I missing something with the OTA update? Is there concern with the EC05toEI22.zip? I used it to get to the EI22 modem and it was quick and painless.

i think this is the route im gonna take is do the one click root then flash everything i want on the phone
Don't forget to also apply the cwm 5 zip. You can do this after flashing cleangb if u want, but you will need to do the 3 finger method.

So you were able to get to EC05? If so, flash CWM recovery from Odin and try the 3 finger boot. Or actually, it doesnt matter if you got EC05 loaded or not, just Odin CWM and boot into recovery and flash CleanGB from there.

Wait please tell me exactly what you did you tried to flash a rom? Thru odin? Or tried rooting thru odin and on what software ei22? Ec05 etc.
Sent From My Cyan Samurai
Well if you can't get into cwm try to odin back to stock ec05 then flash a custom recovery in odin and then download a rom and flash it in cwm. I'm sorely confused on what you did please expand
Sent From My Cyan Samurai
i used odin 1.85 and used the lostkernel 1.02.4 something like that when i tried to root my phone.
Okay well I've never heard of it. Anyways just go ahead and flash back to stock ec05 if you don't know how to do this then follow this:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YQ2g6J1JgjU&feature=youtube_gdata_player
Once back on ec05 you have two options update to ei22 or just root ec05 by flashing a recovery not a kernel. Ill provide you a recovery give me a second.
Sent From My Cyan Samurai
Kala..if u have the stock ec05 file on ur pc..odin back to eco5, and then let the phone do the ota update to ei22. From that point u can go ahead and the rooting process. Make sure u are not using the data cable that came with the phone.

E4GT - Flashing after brick

So five months ago after an error with AOKP my first E4GT resulted bricked and I had to buy another... now I am on the GS3 but then I found that it could be solved so I fixed it and left it in CM9...now I want to use it iPod style but because of the changing of the memory and the reduction to only 8 gb I don't know if it is safe to try the new FK09 without a problem or if something is needed
Sent from my GT-I9300
Sounds like you had a corrupted data partition and you were able to flash a custom pit file to work around the bad blocks...
If you try to Odin FK09 it will flash a stock pit file and those bad blocks may cause the issue you were already facing... if it even lets you Odin the tar.
You could however flash a custom JB ROM and keep your current pit file and work around the bad blocks.

.tar.md5 files are available for FK09. Use one of those along with the modified .PIT file that you have in Odin and you should be ready to try it out. Having said that, I believe you're the first person to inform that they're trying JB after triggering the bug so you're wading into uncharted territory. Please post updates if you go through with it!
Yeah I really never saw anyone flashing anything after the brick era and left them in CM9 but that FK09 sounds so tempting, specially because I wouldn't have the bugs cause it would be technically an iPod.
But I was thinking that I need a safe recovery to flash cause I'm almost certain this cm 9 recovery will be sure to corrupt another 8 gigs so if I flash EL29 or 26 I'm safe about the pit file right?! Then I can flash one of the rooted zips in the development area and it'll be done right?!

To do backups/restores from FK09 here is what I would suggest for now -
Download the separate stock kernel (.tar.md5) as well as Agat's FI27 .tar from here:
[UPDATE][KERNEL][SOURCE] FI27 AGAT_v0.6.8 with tREC_v0.2.2 11/07/12 - xda-developers
Then the following steps each time for backup/restores:
1) Boot to download mode (adb, Vol Down + Pwr, either way fine)
2) Flash Agat's kernel.
3) Perform whatever you need for CWM.
If you're going to stay on a Touchwiz ICS then you can keep this kernel.
However, if you're going back to FK09 you must for now go back to download mode and flash the stock kernel.
There are JB custom recoveries in testing but I haven't heard a release date yet.
Now, one point of caution... I'm not sure how the recovery will behave with the modified PIT file.
I think it will play nice but if it locks up again just flash again with Odin and the modified PIT file.
Again, hope you'll post your experiences if you do this - would be good for other folks who may be in a similar boat but not posting about it.
(BTW, did you ever look into getting it replaced under warranty?)
Well I bought it from a guy in eBay so it was out of the cards since the start.
But I have to see because after the incident and everything I selled it to my uncle half price (hence because of the half storage) and he is an android enthusiast like me and he have been using it all this time as an iPod in CM9. yesterday that I went with him I showed his the new FK09 and he asked me to install it and lend it to me until I see him again (possibly next year) so I have to be very cautious with the things that I install in it
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app
OK so this was the process:
As my logical part of brain told me, the kernel don't affect the partitions inside phone so with ODIN I flashed the EL26 kernel and went into the recovery.... inside of it I flashed an EK09 ROM from the Dev area and flashed it... it took more time than the flash that it made in my mom's E4GT so I began to worry but thankfully it flashed correctly after a couple of more minutes and after the reboot my only issue was that it didn't charged, it said that the battery had disconnected so I removed the battery and charged it off and now it works just fine so apparently the normal ICS process works just fine... Maybe later I will try an Odin one and make a general thread or something. Hope it helps to the community
Sent from my Nexus 7 with 4.2 and I love it....so **** logic its great
FK09... and I hope you don't have any issues other than what is already known. If so, well you always have your custom pit.
