[Q] How to rename android_audio.mp3 ? - HTC Wildfire S

Hi !
I hate the sound when Wildfire S boots-on.
In Wildspirit ROM, I noticed that android_audio.mp3 has been renamed in android_audio.mp3.bak .The path is : \system\customize\resource\
There is no sound at boot.
My device is S-OFF and rooted with HTC Official ROM.
So I tried to rename this file with ES File Manager, but it says that it's not possible.
It's like I've got no permission to do that.
Is the file read-only ?
Is there someone who can tell me how to rename android_audio.mp3 ?

Finaly I managed to do it with Root Explorer. There is a button to switch between Read/Write Mode and Read Only Mode.
Now, no ugly sound on boot !

Hehe. I might change mine to a custom one haha.

[Q] How do I change the "DROID" boot up noise to something else?

OTA froyo, rooted, s-off.
I know the location of the "droid" sound is at "/system/customize/resource/VZW_Droid.mp3", and I've got a file I want to replace it with, but astro file manger can't seem to do it.
Does anyone know how to do this?
I've attached the sound I want to replace it with, in case any of you like it. It's the turret from portal.
just use root explorer to paste over the sound file in the resource folder.. i just tried it with the "i see you" turret sound.. worked but the timing is off..
rename the file to android_audio.mp3
do adb in recovery
adb push android_audio.mp3 /system/customize/resource
you do the above from the directory on your pc where the android_mp3 file is stored..
if this does not work then try putting the boot animation zip file (file name renamed to bootanimation.zip) and android_audio.mp3 to /system/media folder

It tells me that I "Cannot paste here because the file system is read only".
EDIT:
Sorry, the way to fix it was obvious. just hit the r/w button at the top right.
And root explorer is amazing. It's worth the money!
And to make it sync up, you need a few seconds of silence at the beginning of the sound file. Check out the one I attached to see how much time it needs

Here's what I want to do

So here is my thing, I want a custom splash screen and boot animation but I'm running into a problem. Everytime I try to flash it using
fastboot flash splash1 evosplash1.rgb565 I get the error (failed: no remote access) or something like that.
I found out it's because my hboot is 2.10......
but I am unable to downgrade from what I have seen because my readout from adb shell is that I have the 40000 block build or something like that and because i have that build I cant downgrade and because I cant downgrade I cant have a custom splash page and boot animation.
Any ideas?
It isn't at all true that you can't have a custom splashscreen or boot animation. You can either find a flashable zip of the boot animation you want to use and flash it via recovery, or you can manually place it in the correct folder and set permissions using Root Explorer. The location of the boot animation is dependent on the rom. If it isn't flashable, it needs to be named exactly bootanimation.zip in order for it to work once you've put it in the correct folder. I usually just rename the old one and leave it there in case I decide I don't like the new one.
Splashscreens, and I might be wrong about this because I've never used a custom one, can be loaded as a PC36IMG in the bootloader. I believe there are a small handful of them that can be flashed in recovery.
Hopefully someone that actually knows something about splash screens will chime in, since I'm afraid I may be giving out bad information when it comes to that.

Thank you for your insight. The issue I'm running into is I can't figure out how to get into the folder to place the boot animation. With the hboot being 2.10..... it won't let me change anything in there.

Your hboot has nothing to do with it, you need to boot into the rom and do it there. You can use Root Explorer to copy/cut and paste the boot animation into the correct folder. Rename the existing one to something else, you'll need to mount as r/w by tapping the button near the top that says "mount r/w". After you've moved the new boot animation and renamed it properly (if needed), you will need to set the permissions to match the old one. You can do this by long pressing the file and selecting permissions from the list. Then mount as r/o the same way you mounted r/w. When you've finished, reboot.
You should see your new boot animation
If you don't have Root Explorer, I would suggest buying it - it will come in handy. You can also use EStrongs and I believe File Expert has an option for root access. In ES File Explorer, you have to enable root functions in settings. I don't know if you can mount r/w through the app and it may not operate the same as my directions, but it's free. For root file actions, Root Explorer is just more polished in my opinion and well worth the money.

Thanks man, works great. The only issue I'm having is I can not get any audio. The audio is in the format spc_bootanimation_final.m3 and the bootanimation is spc_bootanimation.zip, any ideas?

Well, that 'man,' is actually a lady, and a good one too. Working on another gold star.
And it needs to be SPC_bootanimation_final.mp3 [yes, its case sensitive.] And try renaming the animation to just bootanimation. Are you on an aosp or sense rom?
Sorry mam, not man lol. Wish my ol lady was that technical lol.
I'm on sense, I didn't know if I shuld try to rename it to just bootanimation.zip or not since the rom's animationwas spc_anmation.zip and it was all in lowercase as well. I'll try the upper on the audio though.

Well with gaining the skill, comes time, lol.
Well its been since 'nam since I ran sense, though I keep the kingdom rom as my sense rom. For the audio, with the SPC in caps, that should work, and the same for the just bootanimation.zip as well.
Ok, so the mp3 wasin format SPC_bootanimation_final.mp3 and I set the permissions the same as the bootanimation. Could it be because it is just the audio file, not a zip with the text file in it?

Well the audio file is just that, just the file .mp3. It may have been because they weren't formatted/named correctly.
So here is where I am. I have the boot animation working flawlessly and have successfully changed it to 4 different animations without problem. Sound is still the problem. Here is what I have tried.
SPC_bootanimation_final.mp3
spc_bootanimation_final.m3
SPC_bootanimation.mp3
spc_bootanimation.mp3
SPC_bootsound_final.mp3
spc_bootsound_final.mp3
SPC_bootsound.mp3
spc_bootsound.mp3
I have it in the same folder as the animation (system/customize/resource) with the same permissions (Readwner, group, others...Write: group)
I'm at a loss, everything should work but still no sound.
You should have SPC_animation_final.mp3 in the system/customize/resources folder, and nothing?
Nope, nothing. I have played the file just to make sure it has sound and it does. I also tried moving it to system/media as android_audio.mp3 as was suggessted in another thread with nothing. Now boot sound worked with the stock rom, aybe from flashing it, it changed the audio setting maybe? I'm gonna try and change that real quick and see if it works.
Ok so I'm not getting it, all sounds are completely up. The only thing I ca figure is maybe somewhere in the rom it has been blocked/disabled for sounds at bootup. That's the only thing I can think of.

Change Annoying Startup Sound [Guaranteed]

First You Need
-Rooted Ace
-Root Explorer
Make sure your own sound is ogg file, otherwise you must convert it
then move your ogg file into sdcard
Open Root Explorer, go to /system/etc
if you found poweron.ogg, copy it into sdcard for backup
then go to your sdcard to move it /system/etc
just replace it
Reboot your phone and you can hear your new startup sound!
Enjoy
And for disable this poweron.ogg sound, just delete or move it for backup

err..
so i checked and no poweron.ogg then i realised my current rom doesnt have one XD so i decided to just paste my own (Nyan Cat lool) but it says "You cannot paste here because the file system is read only" is this something to do with rfs and ex4 or is it because my current rom? (my rom is SanGingerAce v1.0)
Help plz!!

You must mount the system in read/write mode. Press the r/w button at the top before pasting.
thanx!!
What if I'm using CM7? Why can't I change my boot animation sound?
how about file limitations?
How about SIZE limitations and duration? does it have any ?
*YOU guys can use your own MP3 file and convert using FormatFactory , it's the best tool !

[Q] Help with boot animation sound

I need help with getting the boot animation sound to work on Synergy non-GM. I renamed and placed the boot animation and sound in system/customize/resource. I got the boot animation to work well, but no boot sound. I renamed the boot sound to SPC_animation_final.mp3 and then to android_audio.mp3 but neither of these options has worked to get the sound. Am I doing something wrong? Help is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
Problem Solved
After much searching I solved the problem. The error was that the SPC_animation_final file had a .rar extension I couldn't open with any installed program on my computer. After an internet search I discovered and used WinRAR to convert this extension to .mp3 format. Using Root Explorer I then changed the permissions to rw-r-r and renamed the file to android_audio.mp3. Finally, I placed the mp3 file in the system/customize/resource folder and the problem was solved.

[Q] How to put new bootanim or/and downanim?

I know it's a stupid question :silly:
but how to put boot/down animations on HTC One X with Jelly Bean ARHD v21.0 installed?
i just don't know the directory AND the steps to do it..
here's the bootanim i want to use:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1737369
also, is it possible to use the same animation for downanim too?
please kindly help this little noob ._.
The bootanimation and downanimation path differs from ROM to rom.. so if it's a flashable zip, Make sure the path is set right! Usually it's under /system/media
If it's not a flashable zip, then mount the system as R/W and put the bootanimation.zip file in the respective path and change permissions to rw-r--r-- and then reboot!
If you ask ROM related things in the ROM thread, you will get a fast and accurate reply!
PS: There's a chance that you might not be able to boot into OS if something goes wrong, so it's better you make a nandroid backup before doing anything!

You need to be rooted... and use Root Explorer and navigate to that path... Rename the old bootanimation.zip to something else and follow the steps above...
Don't forget to make a nandroid backup! It's better to be safe than sorry
So i've installed Root Browser app from Google Play..
and i check around the internet to see tips for installing new boot animations
Found this:
"Installation using Root Explorer or any File Explorer:
* Change r/o to r/w (FileSystem as writable)
* Copy the boot & downanimation.zip to /system/customize/resource (or the directory where original files is)
* Change animation permisions to rw-,r--,r--
* Reboot and Enjoy"
i don't get how to change the file system to writable or to change animation permissions
is there someone that would like to explain to me how? thanks!
