I was wondering....i see journal this and journal off...how important do you guys believe journaling off/on is? What % in your mind...do you believe of the rooted community even uses this feature? Data corruption....is that something completely different or will a backup fix that problem? What are some advantages and is it really worth it?
Journaling on has saved my ass many times. I personally see no impact to speed and don't give a damn about benchmark scores.
Improper shutdown of your device will lead to data corruption. If you have a CWM backup, you can restore your data to the previous state. Sometimes you still may have an issue where you may end up having to start over. Your mileage may vary as each phone behaves differently with hardware and software.
I encountered many black screens of death after about 1.5 days of uptime. I attributed this to my phone just not liking anything below 400Mhz. Each time my screen was black, I had to do a battery pull. Having journaling enabled prevented possible data corruption from battery pulls.

So whats the diff between data corruption...versus ...just starting all over or restoring a backup?

Data corruption means the data partition is unusable for the most part and is fixed by restoring a backup or starting over.
Restoring a backup is often used by people who try out different roms. They backup their daily driver setup, flash a new rom and play. If they don't like it, they restore the backup.
Starting over is a mixed blessing. You know 100% you have a clean system. Alternatively if you don't use 3rd party back up tools like MyBackup Pro or Titanium Backup, then it becomes a pain to get your system the way you like it in the least amount of time as possible.

Yea I did a ninja edit.
No need to unzip the journalon zip file. It's downloaded as a CWM flashable zip, ready-to-go.
SRF roms based off official releases have been always journaling off.

You just flash the journaling zip like you would any normal file in CWM.
Video on flashing SRF 1.2 (source)
up/down volume = up/down of cursor
menu soft key & camera button = select highlighted
back soft key = go back in the menu/up in the file structure (if on your card)
Boot into CWM
Navigate to install from SD
Navigate your SD card until you find the file, select it.
Confirm you wish to flash it.
Watch it run the script(s).
Done.

Ahh ok, you're using profiles within SetCPU. Now that's all clear.
Yeah...voltage control was a lil too complicated for me...or i didnt feel like reading all that post about it! But set made it plain and simple!! O, since you are here...uhh...i know how to move batt icons out one zip to another....but apps like blacked out miren or clear or black fb...would you happen to know what folder would they be in inside the zips?? Im using white shadow, love it, but the fb nor my skyfire is not themed and im trying to go all black everything!!!??
Journal on always..SetCPU 1400/100 on demand no undervolt. I am using the old SetCPU right now because I don't undervolt. Black Miren, Black Dolphin Mini, black Dropbox, Blackout Google+,etc, etc. Battery life is great for me with "on demand" governor and the blacked out apps

Journalin is ON!
I have journaling on... After the first 3 bouts of data corruption I said screw it... no performance gain is worth this hassle...
I go with the journaling on provided through the zip by chris41g...I've had a couple of cases where the simple reboot option in SRF 1.2 caused a limited bit of data corruption.
The really neat thing about chris41g's script in the zip is it's only setting the data mode on the system and data partitions back to the default, "ordered"...Since the cache partition is still "writeback" mode, I'm sort of pondering moving my dalvik-cache to the the cache partition.
Another thing to consider is the default data mode for ext4 is based on the requirements of running Linux in a production environment, i.e. a system which is being relied on to get a job done...I guess for me that's how I view my Epic.
Yeah Chris's journal on, journal off, and journal data only zips are great. I think I need to shoot him a "thanks" now that I think about it.

I tried a few weeks ago, but instead of running my android freezes... :S
Does this overclock the CPU if so this was bad juju sometime last year was causing funky things to happen when overclocking was added to the default.txt

Script must be run as root. 528 is the fastest stable overclock I can achieve. Sometimes OC lockups will corrupt all your data. I don't recommend OCing at boot/system load unless you're really sure about it. I am not supporting OCing or this file. Every system is different, OC your device at your own risk.

I've been running ahb_div=4 & a11=500 all day, and it seems to be alright... The only problems I've had is when it's plugged in, as soon as I unplug it while it's asleep it locks up. A soft reset fixes it just fine, but not sure how alarms/etc. will work while its plugged in. maybe just simply waking it before unplugging will be fine.
NOTE: Everytime I reboot the phone, I need to reapply those settings.

That sounds right. You might have to use chmod to make it executable, too.
Even so, I understand you can brick your device doing all this?
Doesn't sound worth the risk. A little bit more speed in trade for instability and risk of bricking your hard-to-replace Kaiser.

Well, I can't flash to NAND - I'm still using HaRET, so I don't think that would be a problem for me.
If you put the script on your SDcard you don't have to chmod it since FAT partitions don't have permissions, the files are all 777. It'll only corrupt your Android data if it corrupts anything, so backup your Android data first. AFAIK no one has actually permanently damaged the Kaiser using reasonable overclocks.

After one lockup, my Android data was corrupted. I probably won't be doing this again.
How to use this script?
I copy it to SDCard and open via "Root Explorer" ("Execute" Command).
I see message "oc.sh executed" but in my opinion overclocking not exist.

I have to voice a second opinion on this.
I urge you not to do this if you need your phone as a daily user, Th effects of overclocking are minimal at best anyways, the phone not waking up is one of the reasons 99% of us quit using this a very long time ago. I dont think anyone has permanently bricked their phone YET but its bound to happen. I would think that continually reloading a data backup would get very annoying atleast it did for me. I havent overclocked probly close to a year now and see no reason too even running polymods eclair. If your running myns donut there is absolutley no reason to at all. But if you so desire then go right ahead and hope for the best. And to the one that metioned his phone locking up no your alarms won't work if you overclock your phone don't count on its reliability.
is anything dangerous on overclocking Kaiser?
and whaat is max frequency? 528MHz?
Default is 400MHz

I already use "polymod 2.1g" and this build need to overclock.
But this script cannot make it.
I seen real overclock only on previous versions mssmison`s eclair: system tools shows 507MHz and device works faster than usual.
The script works, your device needs to sleep and wake before it takes effect. If you want to see the quantitative difference download Linpack or CaffieneMark for Android Every device is different, I can OC and everything works fine (99% of the time) but almost everyone else has trouble. Vogues seem to have it easier -- YMMV.
how i can overclock myn donut?
I'm 90% complete on my Android application that overclocks and changes lcd density within Android. It also works on the Kaiser
Stay tuned.

OK just to clarify things with you guys, I'm not a noob at this stuff and I am pretty experienced with roms, kernels, flashing, and a little bit with creating roms. The biggest problem I'm having is my phones memory is very low compared to other EPIC phones. For example Ive placed the new urban fury 1.4 rom on 2 epic phones both completely reset through odin and when the rom is on there are the same FEW apps that come with the rom, my phones max memory that my task manager shows is about 198 and the other phones max is about 241. When using both phones I use 2 seperate task managers to kill memory and the "running servives" shortcut in the settings menu to completely kill some. Over a span of about 6-8 hours of using both phones with gradual use the max memory dropped on my phone from about 198 to 168 and the other phone dropped only from 238 to 231. These numbers dont make much sense to me because they have both been completely wiped, they have the same stock apps (no more), and I've tried this on many many roms through eb13 and ec05. The only difference between the 2 is that my phones SD card has like 14.5 out of 16GB full and the other phone only has 3GB full out of 16. Im about to just replace the phone with sprint (first reset the root, etc.) but if anyone can give me a second option I would greatly appreciate it.

Is it possible that one phone has a swap partition set up? That would explain the memory differences. What happens if they are both Odin'd to straight stock?

Is it bad then that my epic with a fresh rom flash averages about 120mb, and max is about 160mb?

What is sounds like to me is you have some bad memory blocks and that is the reason for less memory free. If both phones were Odin'd back and yours shows the same behavior then it may be worth your time to try and get a replacement. The only thing is it does not make the phone non-functional so you will have to find an agreeable tech.

That all depends on what you have loading at startup. Sync services, DRM, Maps, all use memory on startup. If you killed all your apps at bootup you would have more to start out with. So without more info there is no way of knowing. I would say starting around 160MB free after a fresh boot is good though.

160MB is fine then. Froyo does memory switching so mostly a memory killer isn't needed. I still use one because when I run the browser and close it, it is still eating all my memory down to 40MB, so I kill it.

I finally found a perfect ROM for my needs but I'm experiencing a few problems.
1. When syncing live feed on facebook for HTC sense, it just syncs forever. Really annoying, especially when auto-sync is enabled. I tried just turning live feed sync off, but it turned itself back on
2. Get soft reboots sometimes, with no specific reason.
3. Sometimes the statusbar image shifts 7-8 pixels to the right, leaving uncovered space on top left, reboot fixes it, but still, annoying.
4. On the messaging app, when I close the physical keyboard without leaving the conversation page, it leads to reloading of my homescreen and sometimes leads to bug, when launcher bar is on the wrong orientation. (this problem might be caused by the sense 3 lockscreen mod, it said somewhere that it modifies the messaging app)
5. How can I reduce the amount of my homescreens ? I use only 3 and I heard that it helps to free RAM
6. How can I format my partitions into ext4 ?
7. I heard of v6 supercharger script, can anyone help me with a step-to-step guide of how can I setup that and how will I benefit.
Been using this Rom for ages now and don't get these problems. Also, you shouldn't really need super charge to make it fast and smooth. Have you tried wiping and flashing again?
Sent from my HTC Vision using Tapatalk
I just did, let's see if it solves problems 2-4, number 1 is still there.
It is smooth but if the supercharger is going make it even better, why not ? Also I heard it extends battery life which is always good.
And I think I figured out the reason of live feed problem, I usually remove the friendstream stuff, and I think that may cause the trouble.

1. I usually remove alot of apps and widgets that I don't use when on a Sense ROM. I found that getting rid of FB Chat makes this issue occur. Removing FriendStream widget might also do this too. Try restoring each app one at a time to pinpoint which one is causing the issue.
5. As far as i know, you can't reduce the number of homescreens on a Sense ROM unless the dev has made tweaks
6. Flash either 4EXT Recovery and change the partitions to ext4. Doing this does NOT erase any information on your partitions. Or you can grab SuperwipeG2+ext4 and this will format your phone to a clean slate and format the partitions to ext4 when when using CWM. This WILL erase everything on your phone.
7. I don't use supercharger, so I can't help you there.
I find when I oc too much I have gotten random reboots. Maybe lower oc a touch?

Athrun88 thank you, great response. For 1 and 5 I came to same conclusions and you proved that I assumed right.
for 6 (ext partiotions) can you explain me how will I benefit from doing that ?
shortlived I didn't do any oc but I think it comes oc-ed so I'll try to lower CPU freq, thanks.
I do this when I use this rom:
Full wipe (system,data,cache,dalvik cache)
Flash rom
Flash unityv9 kernel
Mmsfix.zip
Once it boots I install oc/uvbeater2.apk (search google)
I set screen on profile to 1209/245 ondemand & screen off 500ish to lowest setting conservative
Then with 4ext recovery I set up a swap partition of 512mb
After that I run swap_enabler.sh (search google)
Sounds like a lot but it eliminated all my memory issues and laginess. No launcher restarts, performance/battery hits, or usability. As for v6 supercharger, I had nothing but problems, probably cause I never read everything

Sorry that I have to post this here...I don't post much, just am a super power user... any thoughts on how to make this rom perform faster? I push a button and wait for the phone to respond. Especially slow when it comes to the maps app. An seriously contemplating going back to cm9b14 if not all the way back to gingerbread to get the speed I need from a device. I type faster than it is able to display the letters when searching in google. Not wure what feature to turn off or how much more I can overclock the thing.
On install I did a factory reset, total partition format, new sd card format, efs wipe, and ed's ril/gps fix after install.
Not sure how to tweak v6 supercharer. Seems too complicated honestly.
Thoughts?
Thanks...
I just started running Mimicry today and I find it to be quite a snappy ROM right out of the box especially if you picked the V6 Supercharger and the Virtuous OC Daemon from the Aroma installer. I believe doing this automatically increases your clock speed to 1209 Mhz. However if you want to increase the speed of your CPU some more, can modify it through the Performance menu or you can download SetCPU.

Honestly the Script can be made to work with any Dual Core / Quad Core! The Only Problem is you need to be Rooted!
~ Currently the issue with CM9, is that the boot becomes incomplete while in init.d folder without Modification to the sysinit..
~ however, with any rooted device you can download the script & continue to use it via a script manager app on every boot.
~ With the Script Manager App, this script virtually can run on any Multi-Processor CPU
Hope that clears things Up,
~~Eugene

What is it?
Its a fairly simple script that will put CPU 1 OFFLINE when the screen turns off. Once the screen comes back on, it will allow CPU 1 back ONLINE.
How does it work?
Since we have dual core CPUs, we have a CPU 0 and a CPU 1, core 1 and core 2, while the screen is off we really only need to have 1 core active, this script will make sure CPU 1 shuts off while the screen is off, then resumes normal usage when the screen comes back on.
WARNING! READ THIS!
This script relies on init.d OR script manager! CM9, for some reason, tends to run this at the exact same time it runs some other script (I forget atm which) and it will clash, causing no boot! CM9 users MUST use the script manager version install! Flex Reaper appears to work fine with it as init.d. I strongly urge you to use the script manager version of this, NOT the flashable version. Always make a nandroid backup before modifying the system, including this!
Instructions
Available in 2 versions, script only version which you can place wherever you want and run however you want, or a CWM/TWRP flashable zip that will place the file for you in /system/etc/init.d and set permissions.
Version 1: Flashable
Same as any of my flashable releases, I did most of the work for you!
Make a full backup
Download to external SD card
Install from SD card
Pick the cpu sleeper zip file
it'll be almost instant
reboot
Shouldn't be any need to clear caches or anything like that.
Version 2: Script only
This can be run in 2 ways, via init.d support, or via script manager. Both are pretty similar, and can be done a number of ways, however this is the basis of how.
Init.d supported kernel:
Make a backup!
Download the script file, making sure no extensions get added onto the file. Copy the file to /system/etc/init.d and set the permissions to the following:
XOX
XOX
XOX
Once done, reboot the system, and it will take effect when your system is finished rebooting.
Script Manager
This method is probably the better method, and should work with any kernel/ROM. Download the script file, making sure no file extensions get added, and copy it to /system/etc. Set the file permissions to:
XOX
XOX
XOX
Once done, load up script manager, select browse as root (if it isn't already set from the crossix mod method in the guide) then browse to /system/etc and select the script file S98cpu_sleep, then select ROOT and BOOT options. After this is set, reboot system.
What do I do if I can't boot after using this?
You made that backup, right? Ok, then here is what you do.
Hold the power button until the tablet powers off
Press and hold the volume down button, next to the screen lock switch
Press and hold Power (while holding volume down)
Once the recover kernel message comes up, release the buttons
In CWM go to advanced, mounts, mount system, then format system
In TWRP, go to wipe, then wipe system
In CWM go to restore, advanced restore, restore ONLY system
In TWRP select restore, then uncheck all so ONLY system is checked
After restoring system, wipe cache and dalvik cache, then reboot system.
System should boot normally.
Downloads
Available in 2 versions, script only version which you can place wherever you want and run however you want, or a CWM/TWRP flashable zip that will place the file for you in /system/etc/init.d and set permissions.
Dual Core:
Download: Script Only - Recommend Install via Script Manager App
CPU Sleeper script only
Quad Core:

Thanks to pio_masaki for rewriting the OP
I gonne try this the next days. But first i have to get a battery-life reference for my phone/settings.

Thanks! It's been confirmed working perfect for all Dual / Quad Cores device with no ill effect..
I think that this script is placebo effect if someone thinks to see a difference in battery life. On the Galaxy Nexus this maybe is a battery saver, but on the Galaxy s3 Samsung has delivered us the pegasusq governor and controls every core for itself. So your script doesn't change anything in the functionality if I understand it correct what it does. Because without this script the phone shuts down the uneeded cores, so where's the difference?

@ the op, what are you getting in terms of time without charge?
I've seen these ideas come and go and I give you merit for trying.
What is your up time from max charge to depletion?
If it works it works and I'm sure people will use it , we just need to make sure it's not a placebo and that it is actually saving battery.
Is there any lag on wake? Does the script ever cause too deep a sleep, forcing a restart or battery pull? What's been your experience?
I am curious about this because I've found the battery life on this phone to be no better than my evo 3D.
Many thanks.

lmao... then don't use it... CPU 1/2/3 is always online! even if it's report offline...
If you don't like it, don't use it! simple fact is, even when asleep there online & being used...

Don't Care.... People who have used it enjoy it... so??
yeah I don't care at this point!
I'll give it a go and let you guys know how I find the mod under different situations.
Thanks for sharing OP!
edit: Isn't this what a Tegra 3 does? It has 4 cores and a sleep core. This might be good for non Tegra 3 devices but I can't see this helping.

No lag, battery is increased & there is no placebo!
This has been confirmed from Quad-core users before even posting it...... You only see Battery increase during sleep, if you are a heavy user then likely no you will not see any increase......
however, this works great due to android even when asleep still uses all the CPU..... I Don't f'k care if it's being report offline.....
when asleep, this scripts force all CPU offline until awake, as 1 cpu asleep can handle everything the phone is doing.

hmmm, I've watched how the cores behave for quite some time via adb. Actually everytime I send the phone to sleep mode aka push power button, core 1-3 is going offline. So I guess pegasusq does its work already
I downloaded the script in order to place in init.d but it was downloaded as a .txt file, what should the file extension be/how do I download it without altering the extension?

So..
Delete the file extension and that's all.
When you say script manager, do you mean SManager from Google Play?
This is a nonsense implementation. I don't advise anybody to use it.
It's a while loop just trying to send the CPUs into offline mode every 2 seconds per CPU, or every 6 seconds per CPU if you're turning off 3 cores. It does absolutely nothing to prevent the cores from powering up in terms of hot-plug logic and it can even decrease the battery life if there is some kind of load that would trigger a CPU to get online; so CPUs might just go online and then get shut down.
Edit: Oh, you also absolutely fail to mention that this script will turn on all 4 CPUs while screen on, completely disregarding hotplugging.

lmao... Correct.... This is why I can care less about this Forums even though It's be Proven to save battery... But, Clearly you know more than me... So Please for the love God & Don't use it..
Sorry, got to Ask though? Why have other CPU's if you can use during wake? Okay then... And since when does Hot=Plugging work Correctly?

Stop whining and address the issues at hand. Turn on DVFS debugging in /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpufreq/pegasusq/dvfs_debug and open a terminal to monitor /proc/kmsg either on your own device or through ADB to test the screen off nonsense; the core statistics with load of each core, if they're online or not, the runqueue lengths and the frequency for each sampling period of the governor.
Why have other CPU's if you can use during wake?

I don't know what you mean by this unintelligible piece of gibberish, but I assume you are asking why having multiple CPUs if they are not online. The CPUs are turned on based on load and turned off when idling when there is nothing to do to preserve power. Hotplugging has worked since ever and it works perfectly. I don't know what planet you lived on or what credentials you have to earn that recognized developer title but you have clearly no idea of what you are talking about and have some issues with dealing with criticism.
This script certainly decreases screen-on battery life and in a best case-scenario does nothing to idle time, and in a worst-case scenario decreases it and conflicts with other scaling logics of the processor.

Honestly, if you think it wont work, then don't use it.... However! It's been confirm across the board before you start shooting off with the mouth!
Samsung Hot-Plugging does not work Correct, well this being the case for msm8660, I don't claim to know it all, nor do I want to.. My Problem is people jump the gun without testing & start talking BS before even testing...
This has been confirmed... It does work.... It does Save battery, so why act like a jerk when helping out?

I tested it already and posted how to see the facts and statistics in my last post. You don't own the device, I do.
I see now that you're just very severely confused. This is the INTERNATIONAL (i9300) Galaxy S3 forum. The quadcore or any Exynos for that matter has proper and working hot-plugging. This is not running on Qualcomm processors. Re-read the last 2 phrases 10 times.
Now go back to my last post and read what I wrote before you starting releasing things for a) The wrong device b) Having no clue about the device you are releasing something for. I consider you are clueless since there is currently no quad-core CPU on the planet right now in mobile phones which does not support hot-plugging, so you couldn't have mixed that up.
Your confirmation is coming from some random people which know even less about the facts and installed that script just yesterday, making it worthless and meaningless.
Feel free to argue this with other users as I'm done here.
Edit: By the way, I see that you created a copy of this thread for every single ****ing variant of the S3 [1],[2],[3],[4] (Way to go with all US versions being in the same sub-forum category!). While I don't have access to any of those, I'm fairly sure they also have working hot-plugging.

There has been countless Number of People that has Confirmed this on the Atrix2 / SGS2 / Sensation / SGS3 and One X is currently being test as well..
However Correct, I do not own this device, other than what People have stated to me in IRC...
If it don't work, well then it don't work.... All I ask is People to test it out without jumping down my ****
I do however owe everyone an apology for last night.. I was Drinking & normally not that hot headed nor will it happen again.
I Highly Recommend Using the App Version.
Thanks,
