I flashed some HD Roms (Pay's ROM, RCSMixHD, The Z Rom etc) one by one, and each one of them claimed A2SD+ or Data2ext. Also they had fastboot shown in the intro video.
1) In any of those 3 ROMs, I didn't get more than 110MB internal storage, which I had got in StarBurst ROM (not HD) = 1.25GB. Now only 110MB? Now where did my ext partition go? [still a noob at android modding! help!]
2) Is it something like it doesn't "show" it as internal memory, but works all right?
3) What do I need to do in order to get data2ext/A2SD+ working? I followed all instructions correctly, incl partitioning etc.
4) Also none of them gave me a fast boot (like it was shown in one of the videos under RCSMixHD ROM), will I ever get it?
Thanks in adv. Need help. Meanwhile m with 105MB internal memory (which would end in 2-3 days )
Your A2SD+ problem does not exist, the internal memory will show the same as always but it won't decreas as fast. Just try it with angry birds or some other big app. Also don't move them to the sd via manage applications, they need to be on the phone. If you want more info on how A2SD+ really works there are plenty of threads explaining that or this.
And fastboot is hibernation and it should be in the power off menu.

Hmm, about the first thing, I tried it, and yeah so it doesn't "show" it as internal memory, though works all right.
Help! Whenever I use Hibernate, my phone doesn't boot up next. Just stays on htc logo if I hibernate it! Do I need a reflash?
A2SD is stupid and I don't get it either. I just flashed another Hboot image to increase my data partition. Also, I don't want my SD card doing much working and using useless space.
@GoogleJelly
You made it already clear that you are a big fan of S-off and alternativ hboots, but for people who like the sense rom or people are not comfortable S-offing changing hboot is not a option. For them A2SD is a good solution and I can't see how you can be bothered by it.

This. Plus a2sd+ is far more convenient than s-off and offers far more space. What if memory card wears out after a while? Even if it was as fast process as it seems you think it is, it is not like they cost a fortune.
data2ext is better than a2sd+ is definitely better than changing your hboot image just to install more apps. Or brick your device in the process
Sorry mate, but that is just plain ridiculous.

i use the D2EXT version of RCSMix HD rom and it shows that i have 961mb of internel memory... don't know why the A2SD don't show that.
It's not good stressing out your SD Card. Especially when you have Data2SD since it puts more than just apps on your SD Card. Yeh SD cards don't cost that much but when you buying one more often that you need because your SD card has become messed up because of the constant usage it's getting, I am sure it isn't the best thing in the world. I also see more problems that people have with A2SD and Data2SD and I actually wonder if it is worth it at all.
Hello all,
I'm just a beginner who is starting to get his head around things after reading a lot on this forum.
I have rooted my HTC Desire a few days ago following the video tutorial on the development section of the forum on all its steps. I then flashed RevolutionN 3D 1.5 ROM which i think is great after trying a couple that weren't so fast and smooth.
Before flashing the Revolution ROM i formatted my 4GB SD card (which has 1GB ext4 partition), did a full factoy reset, cleared Dalvik cache. However i'm finding myself with as little as 40MB of internal storage available which i have filled up very quickly.
What am i doing wrong?
I thought i was going to have plenty more of space, that's why i rooted the phone in the first place.
Can someone would be so kind to help with this please?
Thanks in advance
To have the phone rooted so that we can flash a custom ROM.
To have more data space, we have to s-off the phone and then flash a new hboot such as CM7R2 or Data++ and so on.
Never try that ROM but I notice that there are two kinds, one is for data++ (for CM7R2, Data++ hboot) and a2sd+ for stock hboot like what you have now.
Do you flash the right a2sd+ ROM ?
I have just checked and i flashed the Data++ ROM....
thanks for pointing that out...i didn't realize it was so simple
im going to flash the new A2SD+ and let you know
Thanks
After flashing the a2sd+ i have more than 100MB of space
thanks for your help!!
Hopefully 100MB is enough for you.. For some people even 1 GB aint enough!
Hello I have also problem with the low space. Think that all desire users have... I have the stock rom, version 2.3 and unroot the rom. I had 140mb space. I installed lot of apps and moved all the apps to sd card. But even you move the app to sd card, the phone memory always used and now my phone memory is very low. What are the alternatives to get more space. Is it possible to move the apps to sd card for 100%

Only with DATA2SD. Otherwise your app data will remain on internal memory decreasing it over time.

Hello guys!
First of all I would like to thank everyone who participates at XDA Developers. Incredible Job!
Since a few weeks I'm having problems with my HTC Desire using several ROMs.
I've been using Mildwild 3.2 since a few months and it went like a charm, so there was actually no need for me to change it. But then Mildwild 4.0 was released and for some reason I thought it might be a good idea to update my Desire to the latest Version.
I took my AData 16GB Class 10 SD Card and used GParted to partition the Card like it was supposed to be. 1GB Ext3. But when I installed Mildwild 4.0 I always had the same problem that when installing Apps the phone just "rebooted".. I'm using quotation marks, as it does not completely reboot, but instead only shows the "Mildwild" Logo (not the green HTC text on white background). The app is not installed. When i completely reboot the phone it is most likely to happen, that i can install the app without any problem.
As I did not find any solution to this and Mildwild started working on an ICS ROM i decided to switch to a different ROM that i already experienced a few months ago (at leat its predecessor) - Redux2 ZM 4.4. As I always thought that the problem is caused by my SD Card i decided to buy 4EXT Recovery from market and clean up everything before installing it. I formated everything /boot, /sdcard/, etc. - everything! And repartitioned the SD Card with 1GB Ext3 and 15GB Fat32. After installing Thalamus r4 kernel and redux2 everything has been restored from google servers like a charm, but for some reason some apps could not be downloaded. When I tried to install them manually after the automatic download finished.. guess what happened? The phone rebooted with the "redux" animation..
I actually dont have any idea anymore, what the reason could actually be. Maybe you can help me with my problem, as i just want to use a stable ROM on my beloved desire.
Thx in advance and sorry if i didnt find a thread that already discusses this problem!
i suggest you unstall some apps, because i've gone through this problem. It happens when there was a little space left.
Well, it says 130 MB left on internal storage
Same problem - no solution yet
Hi - I have also been having the same problem for the last 3 or so days. However, I am on an HTC Desire using LeeDroid ROM - so it would seem that this problem is not dependent on the ROM. Would be very grateful for a solution. This is starting to drive me nuts.
Im still struggelin with the problem. I thought it might be caused be a corrupted partition table? The idea with low space might also be the problem. Actually there are like 110 MB free whenever i look it up, but there might be peaks where it is lot less.. seen 40mb space left already. But why is this possible anyway? Thought this is the reason i have a sdext partition..

ok, i just wiped everything, formatted everything, repartitioned everything (1 gb ext4), flashed stock hboot, wiped everything again, flashed cm7r2 hboot, wiped everything again, flashed mildwild 4.0, flashed kernel r4.. booted once, set SD-EXT to active, rebooted, set sd-ext to default installation location, rebooted again.. now apps are downloading from the google servers and everything seems to work like a charm.. no "reboots" which i had the last few weeks.. ill keep u up to date
Sry for bringing this thread up again, but looks like I'm having the same problem as mentioned in the first post. Almost everytime I try to update or download new application, phone does the same as thread author described.
I'm on stock HBOOT if it means anything, Mildwild 4.8 based on Oxygen. Do I have to update HBOOT to fix this or is there another solution ?

Changing hboot doesn't help.
Just do what the OP did. Wipe everything, repartition your sd-card, and then see what happens.
I'll give it a try, I see Nobizzle did flash cm7r2 hboot so that is the reason I asked that. Nevermind, I'll stick with stock and report result after I finish.
Hi guys,
I was succesful a couple of days ago in rooting the Desire and then playing around.
I went for MildWild v4.3 just bcause a lot of pepole like it and state is stable and fast. Good starting point for a noob I guess.
I've got some questions I wasn't able to find the answer out in the forums: could you please address me to the right place ?
1. I'm currently using data++ partition table. It seems to be working. Any known issue ? Did I made the right or wrong choice ? A bit unsure of 5 Mb of cache.
2. Where may I find clarifications how MildWild is supposed to manage applications using sd-ext ? The system mounts the external storage, I just want to verify it is properly used.
Thank you in advance
go to settings/applications then preferred install location
then in applications go to development and check sd-ext then reboot.

1. fits better into cm7r2 hboot as you waste less space this way. don't worry about the 5MB cache.
2. as stated above. instructions are also in the first post of the rom thread.

1. I tried before the oxygen one: system partition was too little (90 Mb), then I stayed preservative since I didn't know how much was necessary.
Can I flash the table now avoiding re-install the rom after ?
2. Did it at once on first boot.
Just wondering whereas it's moving as maxium amount as possible into sd-ext. How can it be verified ?
Thanks

To change hboot I would recommend nandroid backup 1st, then flash cm7r2, boot back into recovery and restore.
I always use 'diskusage' app to check how all partitions are being used

Well.. at the end it is Linux.
Would be possible in the future to simply resize the partitions ?
Thank you for the tips.
Up today I'm not running out of memory. Then I stay and see how this rom is performing. Maybe I shall change and the table could be "wrong" again ..
I'm not a person who's consuming memory hard. Before the switch the system had about 15 mb still free in the nand.. I installed almost everything I needed. So I reckon the gain I obtained is enough for a long time.

My Mildwild Desire has one nasty habit. Sometimes when data signal is very weak, I get a black screen of death. The only thing that seems to work is pull out the battery. I have seen reports of this issue, but no solutions yet. I tried different radio, with and without ext-4, different ROM (bare Oxygen 2.3.2), different hboot, different kernel, all without success. Any suggestions? Would it make sense to replace the microSD card?

mildwild oxigen headset / headphone problem
Hi,
I was wondering if somebody could help me... I have installed the MildWild V4.3 final, based on Oxigen 2.3.2 and my headset stopped working.
It was working for a day or two, then it stopped transmitting my voice...I have tried it with 4 different headsets and the result is the same I can hear the other side perfectly but the other end not... Sometimes I can hear myself in my ears, its like the phone transmits my voice to my earplug instead of the other phone, if you see what I mean. In the car I have jack connector to connect it to the car speakers and normally it is using the phone`s microphone, but again this wont work somehow...
I have tried flashing the Mildwild V5, CM version, before this, but it didn1t work at all.
Any ideas how to solve this?
Thanks,
Hello all,
I've done a search on this but can't find anything describing a problem exactly the same as mine (although I have a feeling it is what people mean when they say bootloop?).
So with the eventual aim of freeing up the internal storage on my Desire by partitioning the SD card (and using link2sd), I have gained S-OFF with the Revolutionary method, got root with superuser.zip and used 4ext Recovery Touch to format the SD card by using this guide. Now this is where things went a bit wrong. 4ext kept saying I was in safe mode and didn't seem to be doing anything. I followed some more instructions from here to wipe the cache and possibly some other things (this is probably where I went wrong..). I do believe I now have a 2GB sd-ext partition (ext3) and 6GB FAT32 (it's an 8GB card).
Now, when I boot the phone it goes straight to the hboot screen (white screen with skateboarding androids). No matter what options I choose it won't boot into Android-proper. I can however, get back into Recovery (4ext) so I'm assuming I'm not in a huge amount of trouble and have perhaps just screwed up my stock install.
I was planning on keeping it stock (it is actually my girlfriends so I didn't want any hassle), but now I am thinking I could just install a new ROM? Just wondering what my best route from here is..
Should I attempt to go back to stock by following a guide like this (2nd post) with a 'Desire 2.3 RUU (PB99IMG)'? Will that work? Will it undo everything else I've done? Having read up on here about RUUs I'm a bit scared of that to be honest..!
Or should I follow post #1 on the troubleshooting guide and use 4ext to install a brand spanking new ROM?
Thanks for any advice.
No need to RUU, that would undo everything.
So you're already s-off, with 4ext installed, and you can boot into recovery :good: You've partitioned your sd card correctly too (ext4 should in theory be faster than ext3, you can convert it quite easily in 4EXT, but may not make much difference)
Now just install a new rom from scratch is the easiest way. Pick one from the development section, still plenty of choice. You can even find the stock rooted 2.3.3 Rom there somewhere if she wants that. Use the "wipe all partitions except sd card" option within 4EXT, then install the ROM.zip.
When you pick a ROM, you should also check which hboot is more optimal for space within each thread. You're currently still on stock hboot I take it, which has 250MB system size. A lot of ROMs have smaller system than this, so using a more efficient hboot with smaller system size (and larger internal memory (/data) partition ) is beneficial. You'll need to go to alpharev.nl to find the hboots, and I recommend to flash them using fastboot commands
Depending on the ROM, you may not need to use link2sd at all as it likely has an A2SD script built in, or you may need to activate it via terminal commands, read/search the individual rom thread for details.
If you're still worried about space, I always recommend to use an app like 'diskusage' to browse all your partitions.
Thanks, very helpful. I did originally partition the ext-sd as ext4 but when it didn't work I thought I should perhaps try ext3. I thought perhaps the Desire wasn't recognising the ext4 format. As it turns out I think it was just because I had done it all in safe mode? Will the Desire recognise a 2gb ext4 partition? If so, I may as well reformat again..!
Unfortunately I'm at work now so don't have the phone infront of me. I remember it says 'Revolutionary' in pink at the top in hboot, but I can't remember the numbers.
As for ROMS.. hmn so many options. Any recommendations for something stable and reasonably fast. Stable being the top priority I suppose. I'm tempted to try a JB ROM but I'm assuming that wouldn't be particularly fast or stable! Might be interesting to try though. I will use Apex Launcher over the top of it anyway...

Try deleting the 4ext folder on your sd card to fix the safe mode issue, or also try going into wipe and select "Format all partitions (except sd card)."
I would recommend any of milwilds roms. My personal favourite is this one. Its very fast and stable, based on gingerbread, and its usually what i install on other peoples desires.
As for jb roms go, i wouldnt recommend one if your installing it for someone that doesnt know much about phones. They arent particularly fast, but the one i use (in my signature) is quite stable in my opinion.

I can also vouch for mildwild roms. These have much smaller system sizes, so best to change hboot before you install them as instructed above. Most of them fit into cm7r2 hboot, but check each thread for compatibility.
Thanks guys. Would you recommend that MW ROM over something like CyanogenMod 7.2.0.1 off their site? I see CM banded around quite alot, seems to be a go-to ROM for alot of people?
I'm home now, this is what I see on hboot:
-Revolutionary-
BRAVO PVT1 SHIP S-OFF
HBOOT-6.93.1002
MICROP-031d
TOUCH-PANEL-SYNT0101
RADIO-5.11.05.27
Also, before I do it. Any problems for the Desire to see a 2GB ext4 partition? With the rest as FAT32? She won't be putting alot of media on it as she has a separate iPod.
Thanks.

I would go with mw over cm. Cm 7 feels old and stale, while milwilds redux ROM feels fresh and different. In terms of stability and speed they are pretty much the same.
2gb shouldn't be too much of an issue, but usually the max recommend ext partition is 1.5gb.
Thanks again. I'm now up and running. Looks very nice indeed! I'll be honest though, I bailed out of flashing a new hboot. Too scary. After incurring the girlfriend's wrath after one day with a dead phone, I wouldn't want to brick it entirely!
A couple of questions now..
- Do I need to install link2sd? I'm looking at 'diskusage' but I'm struggling to make much sense of it. I can see my sd-ext on there though which I guess is good!
- Are there any peculiarities installing generic apps like Facebook, Youtube etc? At first glance the market seems to work ok.
- Does the cpu underclocking (whilst screen off) work well? Is it risky at all if I use the generic settings?
Also, I was going to chuck Apex launcher on it for her (I love it, and she wants a scrolling dock) but it's not compatible. Any others that are good? Nova isn't compatible either

No need to install link2sd. A2sd is installed by default and is already activated. Dont worry about it.
Apex and nova need 4+, so i would recommend holo or go launcher. i think the default cpu settings work good enough.

You won't brick your phone by flashing an hboot, as long as you follow all the instructions . It's beneficial just in case your girlfriend starts installing many apps. App data still gets stored on the internal memory (/data) partition, so it may get the low memory warning again which kind of defeats the purpose of doing this in the first place.
Open diskusage again, choose /system. You'll see a lot of free space on this partition....that's basically all completely wasted on stock hboot. At least you can see you sd-ext partition fillling up though.
There's another way to flash hboot without fastboot commands if you prefer. I always recommend that way simply because it forces the user to understand a little about what they're doing, plus it's always handy to install adb and fastboot drivers anyway
So:
- Download the PB99IMG_cm7r2.zip from alpharev.nl, rename it to PB99IMG.zip exactly, not PB99IMG.zip.zip, put it on the root of your sd card
- Reboot directly into recovery, nandroid backup (hard to go wrong now, no need to worry)
- Power down, boot into bootloader (vol down + power)
- It should find the file, and ask you to flash it, select yes
- Reboot into recovery, full wipe and nandroid restore
- It's exactly the same, but enjoy the extra internal memory. Open diskusage again, you'll find that there's less free space on /system, and /data has increased
Thanks Eddie, you're right of course. How safe is that method compared to using Android Flasher? I already had that installed on my PC for one of the steps previous.
So the nandroid backup will keep the phone set up as it is? I know she will have been customising her homescreens etc already now that it's up and running haha. OR is it best to reinstall the ROM again anyway and start from scratch?
I presume the backup option in 4ext recovery is a nandroid backup? I think I did one of those before after I got MW up and running.
Thanks again.

Android flasher is the same as fastboot really. It's just a program so you don't type things. I've never used it personally, but it should work. I believe you flash the cm7r2.img directly (not the.zip file). All 3 of those methods (fastboot, android flasher, PB99IMG.zip are safe, get the same result eventually)
The thing to remember (which I should have mentioned before) whichever method you use, check the md5 sums of the .img files before you flash them (you should be able to see those long text/numbers on the alpharev page). Search for a program called md5check. (It just basically verifies the file against that md5 sum like a barcode so you know haven't downloaded a bad file.)
Nandroid backup is an exact image of the phone as it is. Homescreens, saved game data, texts, everything. So you won't lose anything after restoring it. I suggested that you change hboot before you install the rom for this exact reason, so you wouldnt have to backup and restore, but we're here now already
