Hi,
I was flashing a new CM7 theme on my 2 weeks old DZ (with CM7 RC 2 running fine) but the phone got stuck at the CM bootscreen. I tried rebooting multiple times by repeatedly pushing the power button and holding it. After a few failed attempts I pulled out the battery, and after putting the battery back in and trying to power it on the phone did nothing. No matter which buttons I pushed or held in.
I tried plugging it in to the power adapter, but the Power LED's don't even go on (neither the orange or the green one). The battery was at approx. 60% when I rebooted into recovery to install the theme zip, so there should be enough power left in the battery.
When I plug the DZ onto my PC (Windows 7 OS, with eclipse and Android SDK installed and working), the PC looks for a QHSUSB_DLOAD driver. I tried looking for the device through ADB but it doesn't see it.
Please help me guys, I've had the device for only two weeks now.
PS: I'm a noob
Oh dear, that doesn't sound promising. Good luck!! We feel for you.
Anyone knows what steps to undertake to maybe revive the phone. I don't think it's totally dead since it's somehow still being detected by my PC. I just can't find that so called QHSUSB_DLOAD driver.
If I can just somehow get it to connect to ADB then I might be able to get into Hboot or recovery.
Have you checked http://developer.android.com/sdk/win-usb.html ?
Perhaps, donno for sure, it could help you

I hadn't, but already had these drivers on my PC. And before it got bricked my DZ connected fine with the PC (I flashed it using ADB and had setup Hboot and recovery). My PC just can't seem to find any drivers for this so called QHSUSB_DLOAD. It doesn't matter wich folders I choose to look for drivers. Nothing is available through internet either.
im having the same problem ... i tried several times but no luck... no LED... but u shud try pulling off the battery then put it in then press volumeUP+power button ..it will vibrate and red LED will start blinking .. i dont knw wat is it .. i connected it to PC ....windows asked for qualcom MSM driver .... i dont knw wat to do ..nd how to get bootload loader bak :S
if it does this, send it back to HTC.
the eMMC chip has failed (an unfortunately reasonably common situation, happened to me twice so far)
They'll fix it regardless of what roms you had on it etc. (unless you've done some hardware mods) i sent it in with cyanogen mod and s-off, they fixed it anyway
hope this helps!
Lol, I thought my topic died.
Since you guys revived it, might as well tell you what happened. I contacted T-Mobile and sent the Desire Z in for repair and it got repaired for free since I'd only had for two weeks back then .
After I got it back I rooted it and restored a NAND backup and everything 's been working fine since then.
they repaired it or they replaced it ?

Hi guys, need very quick help from you, as I think I have bricked the phone which suppose to be a Christmas gift for may son. I was trying to revert phone from root and custom rom to stock. I've downloaded older OTA update (one of very first ones with android 2.2) an installed it in bootloader. Phone booted fine, and I went for official update. It showed to me there is update available to android 2.3. I have downloaded it and phone rebooted in to update mode. After progress bar gone to the end it disappeared and phone stayed in that update mode (logo with phone and green arrows shaped it to circle) for nearly half an hour. I though, some thing had to vent wrong so I decided to turn off phone, but power button gave no effect, so I pulled battery out for few seconds. After I have putted it back phone never turned on again. I mean is completely not responding. Pressing power button for even minute doesn't wake it up, it is not possible to go to the bootloader. There is no characteristic vibration when it turns on. Basically it behaves like there is no battery in socket but there is, and it is fully loaded as I charged it before updating. When phone plugged to AC or computer LED is not lighting as well whatsoever.
Please, can any one help with this one? I in rush as phone is a Christmas present for my son who lives in Italy and I supposed to ship this today to make it arrive b4 Christmas. This is why I can not spend to much time on searching forums.
Thank you

After reading what you said i think that you placed battery wrong. Check the pins inside the phone with battery pins.

Try pressing volume down+power button for a while then leave the power button while still pressing the voulme key. You should boot into the bootloader.

Tried that too, still dead
Try connecting you DHD to the PC.
Download one of these Stock RUU's : http://shipped-roms.com/index.php?category=android&model=Ace
Run the installer from PC. See if it detects the device.

I understand I should not be worried that all of these RUU's are listed as for model: ACE?
Not at all. 'Ace' is the codename HTC gave to Desire HD/Inspire. Just choose the RUU that fits your location(i.e. WWE stands for WorldWide Edition).

My idea is to double check again the battery position in the socket and if it is ok try to leave it 5 minutes alone on the AC adapter. If this will not give good results, go to the appropriate HTC representative.
when you connected it to your computer... did it ask you to install qload drivers?
if not, go into device manager on your computer, then plug in your phone. If you see an unknown device that shows as qload something or other, then sorry to say, its bricked.
The only way to recover it now is via jtagging or replacing the mainboard (which generally is what they do when you send it in for warranty repair)

Yes, I thought about it as phone behave like it has no power at all. But this is not the case, as I have been flipping that and another battery in every possible position. And I know which one is correct as I can see where pins are in battery pocket. I left it alone under charging and other time with no battery at all hoping that will hard reset phone. No effect at all .

I had drivers previously installed. But I am not entirely sure are we talking about same thing as I don't know what QLOAD is. Anyway comp doesn't see any recognised or unrecognised device that could be my phone...
I am not worrying about damn phone as if it is hard bricked tech guys in service will not probably spot that it was rooted. So they will replace, or if not I will go to insurance company. Problem is it takes to much time, I wont make it b4 Christmas.
Thank you guys,
anyone has some other ideas? Please...
desperation bump
Sorry.. It really seems to be beyond software-repair, If it cannot boot in the bootloader or be recognized by PC there's really not much we can do. We need the device to start in some way.
Although one last thing that we haven't tried and can try is to see if it can be accessed via adb or fastboot. (Although I highly doubt it since the RUU also wasn't working).
I've attached the adb and fastboot files required to test that. Extract it, double-click on StartHere.bat and type "fastboot reboot" or "adb reboot". If it returns an error citing device not found then this too has failed.
(This probably wont work.. desperate action)
Another silly thing that might be tried is to try to put your phone on charging via a charger(not USB via PC) and then try to switch it on. Try normal switching, switching on to bootloader(volume down press)...
If these don't work then you really should give it to the repair center.. you're right that they wont probably realise that it was rooted and would probably change the main board.

Hello hedeon,
I have the same experience today, as you state in the first post in this thread.
Did you, and how solve the problem?
Is there people with the same problem? This morning I receive notification about system update for my HTC Desire HD. The rest is exactly same problem from the top of this story = death + death + death.....
The problem is that you PULLED THE BATTERY WHILE UPDATING! Have some paitience. I switched on my DHD after 3 months and it needed updating. Takes around 20 mins to complete update

May be, but updating started with downloading, then resetting, and then green line was growing up to 1/3 of total size, and at that size stay more then 20 min. Then I try to to push every button, and every combination of buttons, and after 10 minutes more I had pull battery out.
Was it too impatient ?
What was the Android version before you rooted if you can remember and which tool did you use to root?
From what you wrote earlier, it asked you for a 2.3 update which means you probably flashed a Froyo RUU as stock, to bring the phone back to stock ofc.
However, if your DHD came with stock Gingerbread, flashing a Froyo RUU will most definitely screw the phone. I'm not sure if it's beyond repair atm or not, but if that was the case, even if you didn't mess with the battery, chances are the phone would never boot anyway.
Look into AAHK thread, I think there is a good how to there.
Hi guys,
My bro has been flashing roms quite oftenly, I dont know how he does it. I dont use a HTC Desire.
Today he came to me and told me to help him fix up because he couldnt boot to anything.
The phone stay on the White HTC Screen only.
After reading up XDA, I booted into fastboot (Back Button + Power) and tried to Flash HTC Bravo RUU for WEE_Asia.
I used to flash WinMo devices so I thought it should be any problem.
When flashing, everything was fine until towards the end an error saying the package is lost or incomplete. and the RUU updater just leaves me without any choice to revert or what. I didnt not get a screenshot as well.
Now the device is bricked. Power button, anything doesnt work at all, blank screen. yeah..
So any suggestions or tricks to unbrick it?
ADD: Is it this first case of a REAL BRICK HTC Desire? (because I see alot people posting about 'brick' devices but its just merely some software problem)
because as far as I know its quite impossible to brick a device, well and error during RUU update can brick the device, but the error appears in the end of the RUU so Im still kinda unsure what problem is it.
pull the battery out for a min then put back in and hold volume down + power. what happens? does it vibrate or anything?
Sent from my HTC Desire
nope. no vibration at all.
Could it be a battery problem?
because I always see him charging daily and his battery always goes down till 40% or so even in airplane mode!
would it have been the battery problem that caused the RUU error?

doubt it if it only happened after trying ruu. if u were s-off then u cant just run a ruu anyway. this is prob what caused it. do u have a warranty?

Yes the device was S-off when I ran RUU.
Unfortunately, warranty was over last month..
So is this the case of broken bootloader?

I saw some relevant questions in this thread and decided this is the right place for my question. Here are the symptoms of what looks like my bricked HTC Desire It happened to me after I ran (RUU_Bravo_Froyo_HTC_WWE_2.29.405.2_Radio_32.49.00.32U_5.11.05.27_release_151783) RUU on my S-OFF phone:
- Take the battery in/out, press power button, just a quick vibrate and nothing happens
- Tried to boot in fastbood (Power button + Volume -) nothing happens
- Plug in the charger - LED is ON (orange)
- The msg on the PC app for RUU was that there was an err during the "upgrade", which was a downgrade attempt, caused by the fact that my phone software was not the right one for that RRU.. or smth like that. Suggesting I go and download the right version.
My question is... is my HTC Desire officially bricked or are we talking about some of those "soft bricks" you guys are referring to with hope for a restore.
Thx outfront, guys.

Thx for the reply! Doesn't budge.
I kept the battery out for a few mins and held down the buttons for a while as well. Screen doesn't turn on. I'm guessing the vibration and LED are good signs?
I've been at it for a while. As far as I got looking for answers throughout the forum... I used ADB app on windows to run command "adb devices" and got a
HT-some-code/serial....................recovery.
So I'm guessing the phone is stuck in recovery. Wonder if I can turn S-ON and try to re-run RUU from this adb thingy.
Ok, I unbricked it For all people that will land here, my (USB) brick occured after running the wrong RUU on a S-OFF Desire.
I started down the list of HTC Desire shipped RUUs from the list of shipped RUU (can't post link) and the phone got back to its out-of-the box state after I hit the right one. Worked for me.

I tried running the command "adb devices" when my bricked Desire is connected on my PC (pressed down the two buttons as well before connecting it) but it says "List of devices attached" without any serial you said that there was.
I don't know how does the "recovery" on bricked phone works. I did my test: remove and reinsert battery and connect phone. LED comes out. (means it isn't permanently bricked) press down "volume down" and "power" buttons and LED switched off. Tells me that recovery must have been booted.
Any suggestions? :crying:
EDIT:
Okay I followed the RUU method (post just above this). I remembered which RUU I am supposed to install (technically RUU_Bravo_Vodafone_TR_1.30.184.3_Radio_32.41.00.32U_4.08.00.09_release_139001_signed.exe). Unfortunately I received the ERROR [131]: CUSTOMER ID ERROR, which is sad. hurr
Before this bricking incident happened, I did an update to get android v. 2.3.4. Then I want to revert back its hboot from 1.02 to 0.9x using this method. Somehow, after the third step I still have S-OFF, HBOOT 6.93.1002, which is frustrating. That's where I went to alpharev and tried my luck. Nothing gets the advantage. I found another topic which then I found this rooting topic. That's where I began dumb and installing the RUU I want to install (which is the asia version, since my phone's RUU should be from Asia).
And that's how I got my phone bricked.
ugh

Hi I,m hoping someone can help me on here , I tried to root my phone a couple of weeks ago I successfully unlocked the bootloader but could not root for some reason, then i recieved a settings update from orange UK in the middle of the night , next morning the phone won't turn on at all not even to the boot screen , I sent it off to orange to be repaired and because I unlocked it they won;t repair it however they did manage to get to the boot screen but won't tell me how , they have returned the phone to me and its still the same, so any ideas what I can do now , thanks in advance
Try factory reset and see whether the phone boots up or not! if not then post the result of the following command here:
Code:
fastboot getvar version-main
You can do two things now: Go full stock or flash a custom ROM...

Hold down the power button + vol down button together until you get to the bootloader...(white screen with 3 android figures at the bottom)...
Keep it pressed together and make sure you didn't release any of the button...
If it still doesn't show up then connect it to your wall charger and let it charge for an hour or so and then try to do it!

If you are still under warranty, try sending it to HTC or your carrier...

Who think he/she can help me?
I was trying to completely clean my DHD for my girlfriend. So I wiped is all off via all the information on this forum.
Tried to flash ROM, RUU, Bootloader and Kernel. (after some advices)
Now I have a big problem I think....
I cannot get into my bootloader anymore, my DHD is starting with HTC logo and then continues with Android startup and keep hanging in there.
Vol. down + Power is not getting me into bootloader.
Flashing from CMD does not seem to work either because I cannot get the DHD to connect via USB. (cable is connected to DHD and laptop)
If you can help me.... my girlfriend and I would be much gratefull.

what i know is accessed to the phone bootloader it just have two optional way..
first...with pressing and hole volume down+power
second..with adb command while the phone is already booting inside the rom..and off course with already enabling USB debugging too in system settings..
if both way doesn't work to access your bootloader...i think the last change is you must flashing it again the from beginning with RIFF BOX hardware and JTAG software if you have it..or take the phone to services center of HTC..
sorry...can't help more than this..

Greetings,
Remco

Take the battery out ... put it back in ...close the battery flap .....hold down vol button for 3 seconds ....then click on the power button while still pressing volume down [Maybe your volume down button is broken....i dont think that its dead]...let me know of your progress

I am gonna look where to get this software.
Going to a HTC service centrer wont help I think..... Isnt it like "changing the software yourself will exclude HTC help"??

yap..RIFFBOX is a flashing hardware..
yes i know..if you already broken your phone cause of changing software by your self..htc will not recover your phone under they warranty
you already had loosing your phone warranty.. but i think that's not mean they can't help and fix your phone..off course without warranty (if they already know or detected that you already fault your warranty) then they will charge you with some of cost..
if so..with the hope of luck..then you can try brought your phone to the htc service center..then let they're analyst your phone and make decision about your valid warranty..who knows you already lucky then they don't know what are you already do it previously to that phone..
note : this all mean that's if your DHD is still recover under warranty by time..right..
hopefully your DHD will fixed soon..and good luck..
