Unable to connect SEUS & Flashtool - Xperia Arc Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

This has been frustrating me for the past few days.
I wanted to flash the latest 4.0.A.2.368 firmware on my unlocked Arc. So I fired up FlashTool but it just wouldn't detect the phone in flash mode.
But I am able to fastboot on the device.
Suspecting that it might be due to a Windows driver issue, I downloaded and installed the x86/x64 Windows drivers from Step666's guide. But still no success.
I then re-installed both PC Companion and SEUS. I then noticed that SEUS could not detect the phone in flash mode as well.
For the past few days, I've reinstalled SEUS several times, tried many drivers from different links but still no luck. I've also tried all of the USB ports on my computer.
Anyone has any advice?
Edit: Oh, and if I select Help -> Check Drivers in Flashtool, it gives an OK response:

This can vary depending on your Operation system. My Win 7 doesn't find phone in fastboot but finds it with SEUS and flashtool. I've tried everything and nothing changes that fact for my x64 Win 7 installation.
Is the LED indicator green when you try to connect?

I'm using x64 Windows 7 as well. It's a new setup (upgraded my rig recently) and I didn't have a problem with Flashtool in my previous Windows XP setup.
And yes, I connected the phone in flash mode correctly. The LED is blue.

Then you're in fastboot mode if the led is blue, not flashmode, and you use the back button while plugging the phone in.

Silly me. It's working now. I can't believe I was so stupid.

[Q] Problems with SEUS

Hi - more questions, but this time its a problem I'm having. Before flashing the latest O2 UK firmware I want to decrypt my current Orange France 2.3.2 firmware in case I need to go back to it. However, I'm assuming that I need to connect with SEUS once (and possibly update whatever they have) so I can then find the current firmware files in the SEUS folders on my PC.
Anyway, the long and short of it is that when I am told to hold the back button while connecting the phone, NOTHING HAPPENS. I've tried loads of times, tried reinstalling SEUS, nothing. Some drivers started to install, and all seems OK there - no yellow triangles in device manager. Also installed PC Companion (automatically offered when I connected the phone with it turned on). It installed drivers then too. All fine. I tried using a different USB cable too - no luck.
Any clues ?? Searched Sony Ericsson site and it is bare of useful info. Did a search here too but no luck either.
Thanks in advance.
and you followed the instruction as they say:
1. switch off the phone
2. wait for 30 seconds or so (pref. remove the battery and insert it)
3. hold the back button
4. insert usb..
it should detect the phone no matter what. i hope there is some juice in battery...
I've heard that SEUS and PCC now are able to detect rooted phones and don't let you reinstall stock software. It needs the stock build.prop
Thanks for the replies. I have been pulling my hair out on this. I realised that it is to do with my SECM USB Flash drivers being faulty or something.
I tried to use PC Companion and it got to the same bit where SEUS crashes - right when it wants to get in to flash mode on the phone. It hangs the computer up.
I have googled like crazy and have seen reports of others PCs hanging at the same place. BUT, I can't find a way to repair or reinstall the USB Flash drivers - I've reinstalled SEUS and PC Companion plenty of times, with my anti-virus off. And tried to get in to flash mode with the anti virus off.
Problem I think I had is that a lightning storm stopped my first installation of PC Companion - I think it may have screwed something.
Any ideas how to fix the usb flash drivers ???
Have you tried de-installing SEUS and PCC, then in device manager search for and remove the USB Drivers for SEMC.. then reboot.. then re-install SEUS..
??

Thanks - tried that but no luck unfortunately. Couldn't even see anything in Device Manager to do with SEMC, SEUS or Sony Ericsson - was looking under USB Controllers. When I did a full search I did find plenty of traces of the drivers GGSEMC (Gordons Gate Flash USB drivers) in both system32 folder and in the Sony Ericsson folder left over after uninstalling SEUS. Didn't want to just delete the ones in system folders.
you could try doing the "update driver" operation - my driver was called Sony Ericsson seechri (or something like that!).... see if you can repair..
Perhaps you could try on ur friends pc. Just to confirm that seus is the problem.
SOLVED (sort of)
Thanks for the advice.
OK - I tried on another machine (why didn't I do that 6 hours earlier ). Works fine on Win7 64 bit. Maybe the drivers didn't get installed properly on Win XP ?? Going to have a go rolling back to an earlier restore point on the XP machine to see if I can get it working.
Anyway, SOLVED. Thanks

Just install SUS and PCC for drivers

Or confirm your system. Is it a 64Bit or 32Bit OS, then use proparity Flashtool.
while you'll find all this info littered around the forum; i'll try to run down the exact order to install stuff...at least the order that worked for me...as flashtool, and your phone, seem to fight windows pretty hard at points...
this is all assuming a fresh start...uninstall the device, flashtool, etc if you have to: also this is for an Ion, but it works pretty much the same i'm assuming.
phone ON, MTP connectivity selected; connect to PC with usb cable. Don't touch anything at first. Windows should find and recognize both the internal and external flash drives of the phone (depending on device), and install necessary drivers. If you're using flashtool, i'd suggest not even bothering with the installation of PC companion. PCC will fight flashtool in some cases when connecting the phone, so if you do install it be sure and turn it off when connecting with flashtool.
Set all your autoplay settings to 'do nothing' or 'take no action' when prompted. This too will help prevent windows from trying to do multiple things when you connect with flashtool running.
now unplug the phone, turn it OFF...while holding the phone volume button DOWN...reconnect the usb cable and continue holding the button. This is where i get different results depending on what machine i'm using. My home computer gives a prompt for new hardware which eventually turns into 'SEMC flash driver installed'. My work computer prompted 'S1 Boot Driver installed'...in either case...flashtool would NEVER work right until one of these showed up...and in my case, trying to get this driver to install with flashtool running simply wasn't happening.
if that works, move on...you may have to keep trying that a few times, though. If the green LED light on the phone immediately turns off and the phone attempts to charge, you'll probably have to try again. For whatever reason windows doesn't always react the same, so it takes some patience.
Next install flashtool like normal. After that, find the usb_drivers.exe and run it. Regardless of phone, i just installed everything listed (even though, for my Ion, not one of them specifically says xperia Ion or LT28...)
after that...reboot computer
Now you should be good to go. I run AVG free on both machines, and it never seemed to fight flashtool, but some have said some anti-virus software will interfere...
load up flashtool, select your firmware (i'm assuming you've read how to do all that)...select what you want to do...connect phone with volume down pressed...hold until the flashing starts...and you should be fine.

[Q] Xperia Z1 Compact on Windows 7 64bit

Tried to connect my phone to a Windows 7 64bit PC using the USB cable but Windows couldn't find the device driver for D5503. I found these from the Sony site and downloaded them but I couldn't install them manually either. Anyone managed to gracefully connect this to a PC?

Did you tried that approach also?

I have a Win7 64Bit System. I have not yet tested on Win8.1 64bit, but will do in the next days.
"Through Update" means, that my (already installed) PC Companion had informed me for an updated version 1-2 weeks ago and I've installed it.
So last Friday I just plugged the Z1C and it the driver was installed and I was able to use my phone on the computer.
If you installed the PC Companion after you connected your phone, than you might have to remove the device within the device manager. After a reboot it should work. At least my experience with other Sony devices.

I read that. But I have windows media player installed. Who doesn't on a Windows pc, its default?
I have it working on laptop, will give up with the PC.
Same problems as described above.
Following worked for my PC: (I have a Dutch windows (7, 64) and translated the following commands in English. So it is possible that these commands are named different in the English windows version.)
Go to device manager, right click on D5503 (with the yellow triangle), Search for device on my computer (second option), I want to choose from the driver list on my computer, uncheck view compatible hardware, standard MTP device, MTP USB device.
The Phone has to be set on MTP in the USB connection setting to use it with PC companion
Same issue here, any ideas?
USB debugging and MTP already worked successful, but now it's not working anymore.
Following situation:
If I disable USB debugging and plug USB cable into PC then nothing is shown in Windows Explorer and even not in the device manager. The field "MTP" is greyed out/disabled in XPERIA connectivity -> USB connection.
If I enable USB debugging, phone says "connected" however Windows is showing yellow triangle. I tried to download the drivers from http://developer.sonymobile.com/downloads/drivers/xperia-z1-compact-driver/ but Windows doesn't detect them.
If I try to uninstall the drivers right click on D5503 (with yellow triangle) nothing happens.
Phone reset the only idea?
Ok, I got it.

Hi there, I'm having the same problem. I've installed the CWM recovery, but stupidly didn't check that I could access the phone over USB beforehand. Now I'm stuck with a continuously rebooting phone, and windows says it can't install the Sony driver.
When you said you added the above two lines to the android_winusb.inf file, what did you mean? I found this file in the
C:\Windows\System32\DriverStore\FileRepository\android_winusb.inf_amd64_neutral_d58a98da913cec3a
folder, but couldn't edit it, even as admin.
Any help appreciated, thanks.

Ok, I installed the driver on a notebook and was able to get a ROM (CM 11 M8 snapshot) loaded to /sdcard. But after I installed from zip, I'm still stuck in a boot loop to CWM recovery.
Anyone know how to get out of this?

If you can install PC Companion then it should be fine, the correct z1c driver will be installed for your windows and Adb will work normally. But just some people never can install PCC successfully and they will need to modify their android_winusb.inf to add two lines and let your windows to recognize your Z1c.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2635830
Alternative way is to install Xperia driver set but I have never tried this method.

If you stuck in a boot loop with wrong recovery(I just tried it today). I'm afraid you have to flash a .ftf and clean all things out. At first, you can try to boot into fastboot mode(you will need to make sure your adb works) and try to flash other custom recovery and wish no boot loop again.

If it doesn't work too, then you have to start from scratch for your phone. Please follow my guide step5 to step16.

Can not go into flashmode

Hi,
I want to unlock my bootloader with flashtool, but I cannot go into the flashmode with Vol down and USB cable connect.
The LED does not light up green.
Fastboot mode is no problem.
In the configuration I see Bootloader unlock allowed: Yes.
I reinstalled the drivers (32 Bit) coming with flashtool-0.9.15.0-windows.exe without success.
The Volume down key is working of course.
Edit: D5503_14.3.A.0.757
Which OS version are you using ? If I remember well there's some issues with WIN8 (Drivers installation on Windows 8)
If I recall correctly my LED also doesn't light up when going in flashmode (it does when going in fastboot mode).
Open flashtool and connect your phone in flashmode. Post the log of flashtool.

Win 8.1 but 32 Bit so I should not have problems with driver signature. I have clicked during driver installation on "install this driver anyway" ofc.

[Q] Unable to flash bricked Xperia Acro S

Can I get some help guys? My phone got bricked after I stupidly installed Chainfire3D, the phone is in a boot loop state for now.
My phone's firmware version is 6.1.A.2.55 and I have an unlocked bootloader, my CWM was gone after flashing 6.1.A.2.55 before but my phone is unlocked and it's USB Debugging is turned ON before I bricked it.
After 2 days of researching, here's what I've got (and tried):
My phone's vibrator is not functioning so I don't know how many times my phone vibrate when I hold Power + Volume Up.
My phone's USB port is faulty, it charges but it can't be recognized on a computer then I found a guide here on the forum about cleaning the USB port using a toothpick, and I think it's working fine now.
I am using Windows 8.1 Pro 64-bit and I found out that there are issues regarding the ADB drivers, I tried some solutions I found online but my phone is still not detected.
I installed a bootable Windows 7 SP1 64-bit on a external HDD and tried to use Flashtool there. I installed the Fastboot, Flash Mode, Xperia Acro S drivers from C:\Flashtool\drivers and still my phone is not detected.
I tried to install Flashtool again from my girlfriend's computer, Windows 7 64-bit, my phone is detected in Flash Mode but can't stay there for long, it will exit Flash Mode then goes to charging, unlike in Fastboot wherein it stays there.
Tried installing Flashtool again from my mom's computer and borrowed her USB cable, it stays in Flash Mode then I tried to flash LT26w_1265-3909_6.1.A.2.55_GENERIC-user_CUST_1266-3278_R4G from there, but it stops with an error Error processing loader.sin, again I did some research about it and then I tried flashing it again, but this time Flashtool didn't gave me an error but it stops at Checking header right after Processing loader.sin
I also tried to flash only the kernel.sin on Fastboot mode but the Flashtool crashed.
Again, from my mom's computer, I installed Sony PC Companion, it was detected as Xperia Acro HD but my mom's computer don't have internet so I wasn't able to try to repair from there.
I also have another question, could it be that my USB port is not functioning? Are there any other methods to make my USB function again aside from bringing it to a service center?

Instead of trying to install rom, try installing cwm, then if cwm is installed and working, you can use that to flash zip through sideload from pc.

Okay sir I will try your suggestion, thanks. Can I install CWM using an SD card?
By the way, I brought my phone at the Sony Service Center here, they told me that they can not repair my phone since their computer couldn't detect it and the phone's problem is the motherboard. My phone has dents on it, so I'm pretty sure that they used it as a reason. And also, they told me that my phone was rooted. I was so frustrated because I know that my phone's problem is the USB since the phone charges and goes into bootloop after installing Chainfire3D.
