evo 4g replacement camera - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

The one thing I've never liked about the evo is the camera. Is it possible to replace it with an epic 4g camera? Which I also have available. Are they compatible? Thank you.

Almost all of the newer gingerbread sense roms have the same camera from the epic4g/mytouch4g, some with a few extra features, & of course they're more megapixels because its the evos cams. Go check em out in the development forums...

Best rom with 4g?

Its hard to tell which roms have 4g active on them so what is the best rom where 4g works?
You are going to get all kinds of answers on this. MY personal favorite is myn's warm two point two, Rls2.
Almost any evo sense rom has working 4g. Aosp roms and most of the ports from other phones do not have working 4g.

(Q) Epic Camera app for the Evo?

I'm looking for the stock camera app from the Samsung Epic that has the good panoramic pictire setting. Does any one know if there is a way to get it on our Evo's? I absolutely love the way the panoramic option works. Thanks everyone that builds roms and themes.

I am actually looking for our good old stock camera app for the Evo. I personally think they did a great job with it. I am currently using CM7 and pretty disappointed with the camera. Any clue on how to get the stock camera?
By the way, never used the epic camera bit this panoramic option sounds intriguing I may need to check it out too if someone knows how to her this apk.

Yeah it's pretty cool. It automatically takes 8 pictures that are lined up to make one long picture. I love they part of my wifes Epic.

Will we ever get official GB on Dinc ?

I have to admit, I'm loving the nightly builds of Cyanogen, but I am sorely missing HD video capture (especially with a hilarious toddler around)
So for now, I seem to be jumping between CM7 and Athena.
I would love for GB to have 720p video capture, but I guess that's not going to come about until we have an official HTC sense release from Verizon, correct ?
What's the likelihood of the devs being able to get 720p running on stock build ? Is it ridiculously difficult to code ?
It will be forever
But yes

Well there are rumors the evo will get it so if they do well have a port in like 2.3 minutes.

Oh I see what you did there

OMGB has 720p doesn't it? If not, I'm pretty darn sure OMFGB has it. OMGB is the stock GingerBread version and OMFGB is the customizable/customized one.

EVO for a nexus s ?

So yea thinking about getting a nexus s and droping my evo. Pros Nd cons plz?
Sent from my UNROOTED -_- EVO using XDA App
Just depends if you like Sense builds or NonSense builds. Nexus is probably a little faster becasue you dont have to run such a big OS but its really all personal preference. I myself like Sense builds, now that the EVO has GB, battery life is tremendously better and the fact that you can either run Sense/NonSense builds on the Evo why Get a Nexus S if you can have the same rom, live wallpaper and GB keyboard that looks identical. HDMI, 8mp camera, more support and a bigger screen- what's not to love?!
But again, personal preference! Good luck
Well I like asop Roms but my EVO is unrooted with hboot 2.16, sure would love to have cm7 on my EVO but I think they'll never root the new hboot

I was thinking the same thing. I have an upgrade available on another line on my account and with the sprint buy back for $150 that would mean the nexus would be free. I dont know if i should be patient and wait for 2.3 to be rooted or just get a nexus. My rooted evo was having problems so they sent me a new one..... with 2.3

[Q] Why are people still using Gingerbread roms?

I'm... really confused. Someone please enlighten me.
Because the EVO was made for GB ROMS. The hardware is compatible with GB.
You can load a custom ICS or JB ROM from the many available here but I don't think they have HWA. They are also not 4G compatible and if you have good 4G in your area then it does not make any sense as to why you would go with a non 4G ROM. Also, FFC and a bunch of other stuff does not work with ICS or GB. The processing power of the EVO is also a little weak for the animations of ICS or JB.
^ This.
Perhaps if HTC had ever released the source code for the drivers for things like 4G and the FFC, ICS and JB ROM's would be more popular and more people would use them. As it stands now, Gingerbread doesn't have any of the above issues-it just works, plain and simple.

Because pretty much everything works. No lag and like HD2FORNICK said, this phone, by hardware, is designed for GB

Ics and JB don't have hard ware acceleration?
Sent from my PC36100 using xda app-developers app
ICS and JB certainly do. But not for this phone. Drivers have to be compiled to specific hardware. To do that, the ROM maker will either need to build the driver from scratch, or have the source code and make modifications. HTC never released the source code for the drivers, so no hw accel for ICS and JB. You cant use the same drivers across two different OSes, even for the same harware. Oh well...

I don't really know much about gb. So I don't want to say something that'll make me look stupid later...lol

No need for hwa on gb. At op don't ***** to us. ***** to HTC to drop sources.

I'm not a fan of GB ROMs but I do like sense. I dont mind the 4g part since I don't have it in my area. Still I keep switching between GB,ICS and JB. I have had good experience with the ICS ROMs I tried. JB ROMs is like ICS at the beginning with laggs and things not working but it gets better as time passes.

Video recording in 720
Cuz gb just plain works.
No doubt, ice and jb are great, but just not functional enough for me. Like vid recording is choppy, which unfortunately is a deal breaker
Sent from my PC36100 using xda app-developers app
While all the ICS/JB roms are awesome, I came from the EVO shift to the EVO 4g for the bigger screen, and front camera. With the front camera broken on ICS and up, it is unfortunately a deal breaker. That is why I use gingerbread.

Try decks reloaded and you'll know why

Decks Reloaded is amazing. It just flies and nothing ever FCs.
Even though I live in an area with great Wimax coverage, I never use it. It kills my battery so quickly. That's why I'm trying out an ICS ROM right now and I've also been trying out some JB ROMS. Had to drop JB because Bluetooth wouldn't work right in any of the ROMS I used.
Long story short, if it wasn't for the advanced notifications and status bar in ICS, I wouldn't ever use anything other than Decks Reloaded on my Evo 4g. Try it. It's so damn smooth.
