I know there's 2 places apps can be installed... /system/app and /data/app. Are there any other places apps are installed?

I just tried it and it installed here. Let me try to find another way or another version..

paste it in the system/app folder and reboot. see if it works. if it does, and u still want to make it a regular user app that goes in the data/app folder, use Titanium Backup Pro to convert it to a user app.
Looking for myfiles.apk if anyone that has it is kind enough to share thank you in advance.

Paste into system/apps, set permissions to
Rw-
R--
R--
Then reboot. Don't try to use package installer to install.
Thanks

OK so I did that and the app isn't anywhere to be found after reboot. Any ideas?
Sent from my SGH-I747 using xda app-developers app
Are you sure you got the permissions right?
This is for the camera apk, but permissions are the same
Sent from my SGH-I747 using xda app-developers app
Have tried it several times and it won't show up in app drawer.

Try with permissions 644. Or if that doesn't work, do what you did before and cwm>clear dalvik cache.
Should work..

Not sure what you mean by permissions 644 but I wiped dalvik and even wiped cache neither one worked not sure what I'm doing wrong the this app isn't showing up.

Is this the file manager? Just wondering why you would use it if you have root explorer already?
I'm changing permissions with root explorer but myfiles is just a easy app to open up and see your ext sdcard or internal. But no one puts it in their gapps

What Rom are you using?
Liquid smooth

I'm pretty sure the stock my files app won't work on an aosp Rom, which your Rom is. Try OI File Manager. It's close to stock look, but works on aosp
I completely forgot about that been a long day. Thanks for reminding me.

I disabled camera(stock app) because am not using, since I'm using this other app as a default camera
Gallery app disappeared after that and I cant get it back
Doesnt show in apps (drawer and settings), Rom toolbox also doesnt see it
how can I get it back ?
How did you disable it?
Sent from my SGH-T989 using xda app-developers app
The reason the gallery disappeared when you disabled your camera is because they are part of the same .apk. I guess you should try reflashing your ROM.

I don't understand this. How do I do it myself? Would it fix my problem? I deleted the stock gallery, and now I can't change my lock screen wallpaper.

Yes it should solve .. Using a file manager/explorer navigate to the location i mentioned in the previous post. Get the apk and install

Sorry if this has been answered before, but where are the installed apps' apk stored? I've checked /data but the folder is empty.

At first I wanted to extract icons out of the apks, but I found an app that did it for me. Now I'm just curious.

You looking for /system app?
There's no user installed apps in there. Just system apps.

Is your explorer rooted?
I am rooted and using IO file manager. Should I use something else?
Edit: Realized that IO doesn't support root access. Found that they are in /data using ES file explorer
Sent from my LG-LS970 using xda premium
Not sure. I use ES Explorer. The only time I can't get into /data is if I forgot to root Explorer.
Sent from my LG-LS970 using xda premium
I use root explorer. Works just fine. Usually the installed apps that you downloaded or installed manually go in the data/app section
Sent from my LG-LS970 using xda app-developers app
what the heck is that uHIT folder...I cant delete it
Sent from my SPH-L710 using xda app-developers app
If you can't delete it then most likely it's a folder created by the rom. If you still have doubts install Lookout from the market. Run it and let do what it has too.
