Hello,
I'm new to this forum and I´m the owner of a HTC desire.
Now I want to flash Insertcoin to my desire, but on the site there are 2 download links.
Which one is the right one?
imageshack.us/photo/my-images/195/whichone.png/
Thanks,
Jelle
the first one.
the cm7 version is for users who have changed the hboot (phone must be rooted and s-off, to flash another hboot)
Thanks, I'll try it.
So with that ROM I can just root my phone like this:
youtube.com/watch?v=2s-zXC4jREw ---> with unrevoked, then drag the ROM to my SD card(still in zip format), and then use ROM manager(first in this video: youtube.com/watch?v=zIUbUUNyf90&feature=player_embedded#at=11) to flash the ROM.
Is that right?
Yes you can root with unrevoked.
Before flashing the insertcoin ROM, you will have to make partitions on your SD card: FAT32 + 1GB EXT3/4.
You can do this with Gparted under linux, or minitool wizard partition under windows.
Copy the insertcoin zip file on the FAT32 partition
when your phone is rooted with unrevoked, you will have the clockworkmod recocovery wich can be used to install the ROM zip file :
- Start the phone by pressing vol.down + power, and choose recovery.
- Now you can install the ROM with "install from sdcard" -> "choose zip file"
- chose the file and Confirm
- wait til the install ends, and reboot
Thanks again!
It works
happy I could help you

These are my steps to install a cook ROM:
I have the Android 2.1 and it never rooted. So to install cook ROM, i will:
1.1>Format my SD to FAT32, Make a goldcard (using GoldCardTool_0.0.5) for it. (So it will generate specific folders into SD, right).
1.2>Root my phone
1.3>Install a suitable Radio on SD. *
1.4>Install cook ROM
1.5>Start my Desire for the first time in new ROM. Install ROM Manager from Market.
1.6>Do Partition SD to Ext2,3,4... by using ROM Manager for A2SD,... (right?) *
1.7>If i want to comeback to the ship ROM, i will downgrade ROM
Are these steps correctly?
I wonder how to:
+ Install Radio: Which place i will install? Do i need any app to do it?
+ Do partition SD: When do it? Before or after installing new cook ROM?
Thanks for your helps
You have got it correct mostly.
1.6 If you are installing a ROM which has A2SD+ (This is different from google's 2.2 A2SD), then you need to have your SD card partitioned to ext3 before flashing the ROM. There are two kinds with A2SD+
a. ROMs which have A2SD implemented -> for this ext3 partition has to be present in the sd card before flashing the rom
b. some ROMS are flashable without A2SD+, and after booting for the first time, you can flash A2SD+ as an add on. In this case, before flashing it, you can partition the sd card with rom manager
1.7 If you want to revert to the custom rom, flashing an RUU is the easiest way. Ensure you have a proper RUU so that you can get back to stock if necessary.
1.3 Again, some ROMS comses with radio as part of it. So flashing the radio separately is not required. Check the rom createators description/changelog for it.
And immediately after rooting with unrevoked 3.21 do a nandroid back up and save a copy of that back up in your PC since partitioning the card will wipe all data in it.
Well you are almost right about all the steps
>To install the Radio first you have to download the latest radio
here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=687464
copy it to your root folder of your sdcard , and using Rom manger Boot into recovery or else switch off the phone hold the upper volume button ad power on the devise and
enter in to the recovery mode ,,
>Once you are in the recovery mode browse the radio .zip file from the memory card and press yes
>it will get installed in a moment ,,and reboot the devise now be patient it will take a while..and several reboots..!
>Partitioning the sd card is your choice you can do it in recovery mode using clockwork recovery or else use rom manager to do this ,,select min 512mb.
do it after you install the rom and use A2sd to install apps to sd card.
Thanks alot. I'm using Official Froy now, and will try to root my Desire when the time is coming (I still scare to break down the mobile ).
Ah, if i want to root my Desire, do i need to comeback the stock Android 2.1?
Hi guys.
Please, I need a little help. 2 days ago I bought Desire. I rooted it with UnRevoked 3.2.1. I also replaced SD card with a new 8 GB Sandisk. Now, how can I create all pertitions needed (ext3 and fat32)? I put on ROM manager, which does nothing, ie. when I select to create partition of 512 MB, it rebooted, but does nothing. I am Windows XP and Win 7 64 bit user. Can you please tell me how to create all necessary partitions AND neede Cache, ... folders on SD?
Thank you a lot,
Sandi
What exactly did you do with ROM manager?
I would just reboot into recovery (start phone with volume down, wait a few seconds till sd card check is over and select recovery) and go to "mounts and storage" and format sdcard. 512 mb ext2, rest fat32, then upgrade to ext3. Should work this way.
edit: ext partition size varies depending on the rom you flash and if it has data2sd.
Which rom do you want to flash?
There have been, in the past days alone, multiple threads about this. Maybe some searching on your one is a good idea. If that is to complicated i can narrow it down for you with a little hint: GParted
Actually, I thought that it will be this way. But this does nothing, so I am a little lost.
Regards,
Sandi
Ok, I rebooted phone. Having HBOOT 0.93. Going to down to Recovery. I got a ClockWorkMod v2.5.0.7. Going to Mounts and Storage. Then select Format sd-ext. It says: Formatting SDEXT:...
No app2sd artition found. Skipping format of /sd-ext.
So, how to create partition?
Thank you very much, Sandi
ok i thought that clockwork mod recovery was capable of partitioning sd card.
but you can flash amon ra recovery (this is the GSM version):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=839621&highlight=amon
have you got s-off? if yes, you can just flash the recovery via fastboot.
if not, you will probably have to do it with unrevoked.
edit: accidently hit the thanks button on your post, dont wonder
I have S-ON now. How can I then use AmonRa .IMG? I have no way to choose to load img file, as only load ZIP and so on are there.
Regards,
Sandi
Well, just start unrevoked and press CTRL + R (or just select file --> custom recovery...
Select the image you downloaded from the amon-ra thread and it should work. Haven't tried it with a custom one yet personally, but these instructions are also mentioned in the amon ra thread:

Install
Unrevoked

Be aware that unrevoked flashes an Superuser app... so any issues related to su use are out of my control!

Once done, boot into recovery select "Partition sdcard" and use it to your likings .
Thanks anyway, I just went back to original ROM.

Sandi
Of course I wanted to get me some custom ROMS, but it finished badly.
Now I did it
I rooted with Unrevoked. I went without problems. Then I created CD for AlphaRev 1.5, rebooted PC and started process to get S-OFF.
Unfortunatelly, it said after step 3, that procedure didn't finish correctly. My HTC stuck on HTC logo screen, and it throws 2 black lines on it.
I can get to Recovery mode with power+down buttons, but what to do now. It doesn't reboot at all.
I have correct RUU exe file for my HTC, but it is not recognised. Please, any help what to do?
Regards,
Sandi
Hello everyone,
I have rooted my Desire a long time ago, now I want to try out a few custom ROMs. However, I think I made a few mistakes because Data2SD doesn't work for me.
Can i just start off new ? For example just running Unrevoked³ again ?
If yes : Why doesn't Unrevoked³ work ? It just says "Error: failed to get root. Is your firmware too new?". Currently I have installed Android 2.3.3 SuperNova ROM. My H-BOOT version is "HBOOT-0.75.0000". I think my Display is SLCD.
Thanks in advance !
Cheers Limette =)
if you are already rooted, this is what unrevoked should show.
anyway, your root was succesful, and it has got nothing to do with Data2SD.
if for some reason you think it might not work, make sure you have EXT partition AFTER fat32 one. and make sure it works ok, Gparted for example.
other than that you should provide more info, like what you did with your sdcard (how did you partition it, what layout etc.) and why do you think it is not working.
Thanks for your reply.
Actually I did partition the SD card how the tutorial told me to.
1st partition = ~14GB FAT32
2nd partition = 1GB EXT4
Then I installed the custom ROM and booted once. Then i went into Recovery mode and installed Data2SD installer. Everytihng should be ok so far, but the Phone wont boot after that, even tho the blue LED flashes. So I thought starting off new would be a good idea ^^.
So Umm, now I'm not quite sure what to do :O
Thanks in advance.
Cheers Limette.
well, a good thing to try now is installing some other ROM (possibly one with DATA2XXX already included) and checking if this works
also, what rom are you trying to flash
and have you used any aligment.zip flashable that were supposed to do some cool stuff with your ext ?
I only tried this ROM so far : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1045824
Here is what I did :
1. Partition my SD card ( 14GB FAT32 primary, 1GB EXT4 primary)
2. Recovery mode -> install zip from SD card -> new radio version
3. Reboot
4. Recovery mode -> install zip from SD card -> SuperNova ROM
5. Reboot
6. Recovery mode -> install zip from SD card -> Data2SD installer
7. Reboot (system is stuck here)
If I remove the SD card the SD card the system will boot and if I dont even install Data2SD system will also boot. It just wont boot if Install Data2SD. I did nothing more.
However, I just tried to install InsertCoin CM7 but that won't even start at all. Thats pretty much the reason why I'm trying to redo all of my first steps. Or do you think my problem is somewhere else?
please let me know if you need more information and thanks for your help so far
Cheers Limette
insertcoin CM7 version would require you to be s-off and running custom hboot (partition layout in phone) so that is why it is not booting up.
try insertcoin A2SD+ STOCK HBOOT, if it works, then your EXT is fine, if not then i suggest you double check it.

Hboot 0.75 means you are still s-on so InsertCoin cm7 will never work for you.
I suggest you to soff (read some tutorial first) and flash cm7 hboot.
Then u will be able to flash IC cm7. With that version u will not need those weird data2something scripts
Thanks for the replies !
I just tried the InsertCoin A2SD v20 ROM its booting but its not working correctly. I get crash messages like every 3 seconds
"The process android.process.acore has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again"
I might try to S-OFF my phone after i read the tutorial. But until then, do you guys know what I did wrong ?
Cheers Limette
Few people with hboot below 0.93 experienced some problems with installing gb roms.
1. What is your recovery? AmonRa or CWM and what version?
2. Would you consider using Froyo rom? They are extremely optimized and stable, while gb still have some glitches.
3. You can of course s-off, but i'd check/repartition sd card first. Stick with ext3 partition for now, a bit more support for it if you get mad with flashing different roms

1. CWM v2.5.0.1
2. I used a Froyo ROM for like 9 months now ^^ So I want to try Gingerbread out ^^
3. I'll try to repartition my SD card with Ext3 , if that won't help I'll try to S-OFF my Phone.
I'll let you know if it worked.
Cheers Limette.
I managed to Fix the Error message "The process android.process.acore has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again". I accidentally forgot to wipe all data before flashing :$
Thanks for all the help =)
you wrote you have clockworkmod recovery 2.5.0.1 ? you sure it is not 2.5.0.7 ?
anyways, both of them are really old, and this can cause bootloops when new updater script is used in a flashable.zip file
since you are S-ON, you cant premanently flash new recovery, but you can fake-flash which is putting clockworkmod_3.0.2.8.zip file on sdcard, and then flashing it while in 2.5.0.7(or .1) and this will boot up the newest version (but you have to do this everytime you enter recovery)
then you can try flashing both ROM you chose and the DATA2SD installer with 3.0.2.8, this might fix it

hi all, sorry for my bad english...
here's my problem:
i tried to root my htc desire with unrevoked3 but i did this at the 3rd try for some reason. root program said "it's ok, phone is rooted". then i've installed rom manager and tried to install cyanogenmod rom, but recovery said "can't mount misc" and i can't do anything now. i rooted it one more time and it doesen't help.
Phone version?
Bootloader information?
You guys always forget about the details.
Have you also tried to install ROM directly in clockworkmod recovery ?
download the ROM zip file, check md5 sum, copy to SD in FAT32 partition
reboot in recovery
Install from SD -> choose zip file
Do not use rom manager. It's a horrible software which causes many heavy system problems here. All operations you can do with rom manager can be done directly in recovery. Sometimes you have to partition your sd card with gparted, because this cannot be done in recovery, but gparted is not that difficult to use.
Conclusion: You do not have to use rom manager.
Referring to your problem, I subscribe with black3yed's post.

Yes it can be done, just not with CWM recovery.
Hi. I'm about to install a new rom on my HTC Desire, and the developer says i need to partition my SD card like this :
*******************
But the first thing you'll have to do is repartitioning your sd card (I suggest 4ext or you can use clockworkmod recovery) like this:
1st partition fat32 xyMB
2nd partition - sd-ext - ext4 - 768MB (the 1st ext that recovery will ask you)
3rd partition - sd-ext2 - ext4 - 256MB (the 2nd ext that recovery will ask you)
NO SWAP!!!
You can use different values for sd-ext partitions, but ext proportion HAS TO BE 3:1 (like my suggestion 768:256)!!!
*******************
I flashed Clockworkmod recovery and i dont have an option in there to create 768 size partition and i really dont know how to create 2 ext4 partitions. So how do i do it ? I would really be greatful for any help here. Thank you.
4EXT Recovery Touch should be your recovery (check my sig).
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA
All you need to do is to
1. Download and install 4EXT Recovery Updater, and launch it.
2. It will ask for root access, which you must grant.
3. After granting it root access you can use it to download and flash 4EXT Recovery. You must have an internet connection for this.
4. The recovery updater app will now download 4EXT Recovery and flash it on your device, replacing the older CWM Recovery you have currently, it's that simple.
there you will find the option to create 2 ext partitions.
guess i have to install some rom first so i can get 4ext, i couldn't find an image file to flash it otherwise. On it now. Thanks.

Thank you all, you've been very helpful. I've flashed 4ext and pratitioned the SD card, my phone took ages to start, so finally i've installed the rom, gonna try it out now. Thank you all again ! Cheers.
Glad to know that your problem is solved. enjoy your new rom.
