Could you tell me where EXACTLY you see this?

When it restarts to do the update it just shows the Green android holding an exclamation mark, indicating an error.

Have u done all the Pre-requisites?
1) S-Off
2) Install CWM Recovery
3)Install rom ??

I don´t know that much about the logging part - maybe there is some adb command...
I flashed my O2 DHD a few months ago, maybe I can help you with the procedure. Could you provide a few more details? (E.g. are you on stock O2 ROM / is your device still branded / are you trying to update via OTA / did you try to redownload the update / ... )

[Q] E: Can't open /cache/recovery/command

Hi
I decided to enter the realem of Android with HTC Desire HD. In the process I tried to root my device using http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=841076 . Everything went as planned, however now when i try to reboot the device to recovery, i get a Phone Icon with Red Triangle & An Exclaimation Sign. And then i use the Up Arrow Key with Power I guess i reach the recovery screen with error at the bottom saying:
E: Can't open /cache/recovery/command

yeah download rom manager and install cwm recovery, the one you have is thew default android one
I had the same issue, you need to do S-OFF then do the clockwork mod again and you'll be right as rain.

Thanks, this just saved me another night of google-ing. Sometimes it surprises me how simple some things can be.
I'm also having the same issue however doing S-OFF and then trying it again does not fix it for me . Any suggestions would be appreciated!
Just to confirm, you are rooted and have S-OFF, turned phone off but now when you try to turn phone on you get the red triangle? Or when you try to get back to recovery?
What version of CWM recovery are you using?
What step of the guide did you get to?
Im using this guide..

I'm on part c #1..
My phone right now has the following settings..

I can boot into the android OS but when I try to use CWM (3.0.2.6) and install ROM from SD Card the red triangle with the ! mark comes up.

Not sure if it matters but I don't have an update.zip file on my sd card.

i have the same E:Can't open/cache/recovery/command error in stock recovery and im thinking it is related to a emmc called M4G2DE that is known for causing bricks
Hello,
after release (Roottato) I could successfully installed the ROM MIUI 2.3.7c following the guide on the first post,
ok just do not know why I did not have root permissions,
So I tried to redo the unlocking with Advanced Hack Kit Ace, but at some point you are stuck staying the screen that says HTC, I waited about 30 minutes pensado he was working, but nothing, I disconnected everything and then when I turned the phone on me HTC was always marked with the white screen,
Then I went into recovery planning to clean up everything and reinstall the ROM, but going into recovery I check a phone icon with the red triangle,
them by pressing vol + and power gives me this error "E: Can not open / cache / recovery / command"
I up the options between which "apply sdcard_update.zip"
the start and it says it can not find the file.
how can I fix this?
ok problem solved : D
How was this solved?
Sent from my Motorola Startac running ICS.
First I put the file on the SD-PD98IMG GB2.zip (renamed PD98IMG.zip) in the zipped file aahk-17122011, so I went to recovery. The DHD has asked me if I wanted to continue with the update: accepted, and 5-time ', my DHD was working again and downgraded
So I repeated the procedure for rootarlo BUT before you press 1, on the advice of my guardian angel of the development team dell'aahk, I pressed t, because 'the DHD appears to have problems with fastboot: all went smoothly!

Urgent help please ... HTC desire

Yesterday, my phone notified me of an available update (probably android 2.3). I downloaded the update, used a file explorer to move the update ZIP from download folder to the SDCard root and renamed it to update.zip. I rebooted into recovery (ClockWork) and selected 'apply update.zip from SDCard'.
It was going fine and looked like a successful update, however ... the phone kept rebooting and never started.
What happened exactly is:
- HBoot became 0.93
- The phone never starts, hangs at HTC logo (no quietly brilliant) for a few seconds then reboots.
- I think I lost the clockwork recovery (I get a picture of the phone with a red rectangle and an exclamation mark instead of the recovery screen).
My phone was rooted using unrevoked 3
Can anyone please tell me what happened to my phone? is there any fix for it or is it gone forever?
Moved to Q&A where you will hopefully get more help than in General.
Never apply OTA updates on rooted phones!
Use a Ruu to go back to stock then root again.
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA Premium App
I tried using a RUU, but it cannot detect the phone. (I cannot get passed the HTC logo)
Can I apply the RUU whe the phone is in HBOOT?
1st try in fastboot.. and if not detecting than.. in fastboot got to hboot and than try
THANK GOD!!!!
Finally, I got it.
I applied a RUU with the same rom number as the update and I finally got to the Android interface.
Ohh well done..

[Q] Can't modify ROM or reset device

Hi!
I have a DHD with the FroYo Stock ROM. The device crashes quite often for a few weeks now, and I decided to upgrade the ROM using the regular HTC Software update in-device function as the device already reminded me of it for some time now.
It downloads the new rom without any problems, asks me to install it, reboots - and stucks at the "HTC" Logo (not already showing the "quite brilliant", just "HTC"). I tried this several times - no changes at all.
I tried to do a factory reset then, first using the "rest" menu in the system settings, then using the bootloader (should be the bootloader, the thing that opens when starting the device while pressing the vol-down button). The same behaviour here - the device reboots and stucks at the HTC Logo. I need to remove the battery - and nothing has changed. Therefore it isn't even possible to reset it any more but in general it's still usable (sending txt messages, calling, using apps).
At last I tried to do a manual ROM Update, and therefore installed Visionary. Unfortunately it crashes when trying to click on "temp root".
Do you have any idea what the problem might be and what I can do (except of sending it back to HTC, it's my only phone).
Thank you in advance!
How did you try to update it? With OTA update? If that's the case then try to update with the appropriate RUU instead.
How do I do that? I updated using the update procedure of the phone itself (Software Info -> Check for Updates).
Search is your friend Here's a link (md5: 74B9CE337AFC58EEB83966A4D9D79990) to the WWE (the generic one) Gingerbread RUU. Download it to your computer, start the HTC Sync application on your computer, connect your phone with the USB cable in HTC Sync mode and run the exe-file you just downloaded.
If your phone is branded or from a region that uses a specific rom you need to download the corresponding RUU for it.
doesn't work either.. might there be a general problem with maybe the boot loader? any other way of resetting the device?
How did it fail?

The RUU exe runs problemless, the progress is shown on the device and I get an confirmation message that the rom has been updated successfully.
The device restarts again and I see the "HTC" logo where it stucks again. After removing the battery and restarting everything is just as before - the updated didn't complete.
Any ideas what the problem might be?
If your bootloader is still stock and all official updates fail, its possible that you have a defect device. The froyo crashes are also an indicator. Do you have warranty for it?
yes, but it's my only device and the delay of sending it to HTC and getting it back after some time would therefore be very annoying...
Is there anything else that I might try?

[Q] White Triangle with yellow exclamation mark (?)

-with green droid next to it. This is what my screen shows me when I try to install "System enhancement" (14.23mb).
I just flashed stock rom (2.3.5) again after getting tired of glitchy roms (is there a solid stipped down rom for Wildfire? Tried many...) and rooted again.
Is there a logical explanation for this triangle screen I´m getting? I just take out the battery, put it back, turn my phone on just to see the update messages again. I guess I could just skip this update, anyone aware of what update this is?
Edit - I also just installed ClockworkMod 5.0.2.8 just before trying to install the update.
You have to revert to stock recovery for the update!
Thanks, I´ll try that. Do you know where I might find that? -a quick googling didnt turn anything solid up)
And that is as simple as flashing the stock recovery - installing update - flashing Clockwork again and everything is back the way it was?

Cannot apply OTA - Red Exclamation mark

Hi,
I hope someone can help me. My HTC 1 (UK, Unlocked) was rooted and had TWRP. The 1.80.401 update is now out, so I did the following:
-Restored Stock System
-Restored Stock Recoverd
-Factory reset the phone
-Download the update
Now after the download, the phone reboots and the OTA is applied, but it gets to 25% then displayed a strange red exclamation mark. I can reboot, and the phone still works but the software hasnt been upgraded.
Could someone please help me? I have no idea what the issue is.
Many thanks
