Root and Unlocked Bootloader? - HTC Wildfire S

I am maybe buying a Wildfire S, but i am wondering if the bootloader can be unlocked and it can be rooted, as i would use those features a lot.

If you use the XTC clip it will unlock the bootloader and allow rooting. No other way at the moment.

Doubt about S-OFF

May I know if One X is able to be S-OFF, is it mean that even the bootloader status is locked and we still can root and flash custom rom? How it different with unlock bootloader using HTCDev? sry for noob question..
No you need to be unlocked to root and flash custom roms. As of now HTCDev is the only method to allow unlocking.
Simple method. We don't know when Revolutionary will release their tool.
S-ON + LOCKED = You can only use official HTC firmware and only for the specific branded version you have.
S-ON + UNLOCKED = You unlocked it via htcdev. You're able to change the system and recovery images to allow for custom firmware. You can't alter anything regarding the baseband aka cell radio. HTC know you unlock via htcdev as they make you enter your serial number and other details to generate a phone specific unlock token. This will affect your warranty as any software caused faults are your own problem. General hardware warranty is still the same.
S-ON + RELOCKED = You relocked it after unlocking via htcdev. Same as S-ON + LOCKED except it shows you relocked.
S-OFF = No restrictions at all by the bootloader. You can alter everything. HTC don't let you do this and you need somebody else to work out a flaw in the bootloader to do it. Technically this voids your warranty as well but if you relock and don't leave any evidence that you did so then HTC won't know.

No one knows about S-off.
It doesn't mean we can root and flash custom roms even on the locked bootloader. It was a different and unofficial way of unlocking the bootloader which can be locked again when we need.
We can do the same thing even in this HTC dev method, I mean locking the bootloader, but after that the status of the bootloader will be RELOCKED not locked. That means HTC people may know that our device is already unlocked before.
One more thing (which I heard and I am not sure), we can't flash ported roms on our device unless and until we have S-off.

[Q] Unlock via HTCDev voids warrenty and S-off not..?

Hey guys..
I just read a thread and it made me confused. --> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1603422
As what I think I read.. it says the following thing.
- HTCDev (by HTC Officially) has given a tool to unlock your HTC one X to do anything with it you want, such as roms and tweaks.
BUT This may or even will void your warrenty.
- There is not, but coming, a tool from our XDA-Devs that also will unlock our HTC one X, But this will NOT void our warrenty.
I'm really confused right now. What's true, what's not, please make up this for me?
I want to unlock my HTC for an other Rom, but don't want to get my warrenty voided.
Thanks!
Doing it through HTCDev means HTC has a record that you unlocked your phone. What the quoted message is saying that there are or will be unofficial ways to do the same thing, and thus bypassing HTCDev and therefore not voiding your warranty, cos they don't have an official record of it.
EDIT : HTCDev doesn't give you S-Off, just an unlocked bootloader. With S-Off you can change your radios and kernels. With an unlocked bootloader you can flash roms and get root (correct me if i'm wrong, unless HTCDev unlocks bootloader and also grants access to kernel)

You can do so if you have an S-OFF device
How can you have s-off without unlocking the bootloader?
You can't, unless you have a Verizon M8 as that can be done with temp-root
You can do flash a patch/truck in certain h boots that shows s on and locked h boots even though it's unlocked and have s off. But you have to be s off to do that.
like eddy said you can do it with version devices.
But for other devices it is not possible.you have to unlock bootloader which will void your warranty but if you manage to get soff you can regain back your warranty since service center checks for locked bootloader so if you have an soff device you are good to go.

Root without HTCDev

I just acquired a used M8 and would like to unlock the bootloader without HTCdev.
I found this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2475914
Which explains how to do so with S-OFF. I am willing to pay the 25$ for Sunshine, but apparently it requires root. So if I need to root, I need to register at HTCdev either way? What the use of unlocking the bootloader then if HTC already knows?

pretty sure sunshine will s-off and unlock your bootloader for you and will also set temp root whilst it works, give it a try, if it cant do it then you don't pay anyway. http://theroot.ninja/
If your phone is 2nd hand, does it have any warranty left on it, and if not, then why not just unlock via HTC dev, I did it on a brand new M8 3 months ago with 2 years warranty left on it.#, in order to flash a custom recovery, root and run sunshine, just my preferred way of doing it and only 10 mins work for the lot.

HTC ONE m8 4.4.4 unlock bootloader help!

Hello guys, I have had my htc one m8 for a while now and wanted to root the device. After looking through many websites, i realized that you had to unlock the boot-loader. However, when i went to check my fast-boot, i saw that the boot-loader was locked but instead of being S-ON it was S-OFF and i can't unlock the boot loader using htcdev. How do i unlock the boot-loader with s-off?
Kind regards,
Arbaaz
What happens when you try to unlock the bootloader by HTCDev.com? S-off shouldn't prevent you from doing so. If you are having issue with unlocking the bootloader, I have a feeling its due to other factors, not s-off.
Since you are s-off, you can use the following thread to manually change the bootloader flag to UNLOCKED: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2708571
Another possibility, is if the phone was s-off by sunshine, the device would still have a valid sunshine license. Just install the sunshine app, and see if you can unlock the bootloader using the app (no HTCDev.com process required to do it this way).
