Hi can anybody tell me how to root HTC Wildfire S (Android Gingerbread 2.3.3) !
Urgently needed plzzz guys help me !
To answer your question: "Yes"
In other words; try searching...
use gingerbreak to root your phone needs to be s-off.
it will say the rooting failed but just restart your phone and it will be rooted.
my phone was from BELL so I had to downgrade it with the RUU euro rom or it wouldn't root.
Is this what you're talking about?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1044765
How do I find out if my device is S-ON or S-Off?
I heard that with gingerbreak you don't acutally get full root but only a few things. Is that true?
Yeah that's it.
Turn your phone fully off then hold down the power on and volume rocker down at the same time. It will say if it is s-off or on.
Well I have restarted my phone many times and it still rooted and all my root apps still work.
S_ON
could you please temme how to S-Off my wildfire s ??

You need to use an XTC Clip (about £100 for the unlimited one, £20 for the payg one) since currently there is no way of doing it via software. If you'd like to be part of a group buy, check out the link in my signature.

Go to, Settings=>Power=>Uncheck Fast boot
Now try again.
AlpharevX guys won't support our device, telling me to go and buy better phone ...
XTC clip is only way to S-OFF, but to expensive, twice than my phone.
So I need to wait probably a long time to official update

It should have worked. I tried it the other day myself for the first time.
Here are the steps:
Uncheck Fast boot.
Turn phone off (maybe wait a few seconds for a complete shut down).
Press volume rocker down (try pressing this one first) and then the power button together for a few seconds.
The loader screen should pop up.

My Wildfire S is already S-OFF from factory but it wont root with GingerBreak. I followed every single step, but it didn't work, not even after restarting the phone. The app got stuck, waited for 20 minutes, restarted the phone and it was all the same, root disabled. Fastboot is off too.
Maybe I need to downgrade the factory ROM? Can you post a link or give me a hint on how to do that? Thanks a lot!
Interested in group buy, located in Antwerp, Belgium
Hi Guys,
I'm the proud owner of a HTC Wildfire, want to S-OFF it, but the XTC Clip is to expensive to just use it once.
Anyone interested in group buy?
That means, one person buys the XTC Clip, and pays for it.
Then the clip will be sent to all other buyers, shipping fee payed by yourself.
After the full round has been done, cost of clip will be split up and the XTC clip sold on ebay, or other site...
When it's sold, the profit will be split up again...
Payment can be made with paypal?
We can keep it save that way?
Who's interested?

Ok, so I'm quite a novice at the whole rooting/unlocking scene so I need a few pieces of help. I'm contemplating where to buy the XTC clip or not, more isn't THAT much of an issue right now but I'll save where I can.
First off, is if I buy the XTC clip....would I need it again?
I was thinking of buying the clip, then selling it off to someone else for cheaper (kind of like a group buy). So If I were to use the XTC clip and sell it (and it works fine), would there be a case that I'd need it again?
What does the XTC clip do exactly?
There are two things I keep seeing, the S-OFF and the "Unlock bootloader". My phone (WFS) has S-OFF and a locked bootloader. Would the clip UNLOCK the bootloader and make it S-OFF, of not then what's the difference.
Speed.
I heard someone saying something about the processor and the bootloader. If the bootloader was unlocked, would it make the phone faster? Even though the WFS isn't slow...it's not that fast either.
Anyway thanks for reading, and thanks in advance!

I think you have become quite confused.....First of s-on means a locked bootloader and s-off means an unlocked bootloader....
A locked bootloader(s-on) won't allow you to flash a custom rom or root it(my case )
An unlocked bootloader(s-off) allows you to do almost everything an Android phone can do(rooting etc.)
If you want to check wether your WFS is s-on or s-off.....power off your phone an open it while pressing the volume down key.The first will show wether its s-on or s-off.If it is s-off you DO NOT NEED AN XTC CLIP.xtc clip only unlocks the bootloader..it doesn't root it.
'Root access" or "root" for short is just like administrator for Windows.......It can do a lot of things you can't normally do with your android phone. It also allows you to overclock your phone
Overclocking means to make a processor go above its speed limit. In the context of the WFS,your phones speed will go above 600mhz.....I wouldn't recommend you to do it cuz it can fry your processor if youre not careful
And yes......xtc-clip will on be a one use thing. If you use it once for s-off,you won't be needing it again....you can sell to anyone, propably me

Pressing the power down whilst booting does absolutely nothing, which would mean my phone is S-On, which is what I thought.
I'll probably buy a XTC clip soon.
When the phone is off, you have to hold the volume down and power buttons *at the same time*. This will take you to the bootloader menu whether you are S-OFF or S-ON and it will say which one your phone is.

As I said. I cannot get to the bootloader no matter how long I hold the two. And yes the volume key still works.

before you can do the volume down and power button you need to switch off fastboot
settings>power>untick fastboot
power off and do as the above poster stated and you can check your s state
Also read the other threads, lots of help and answers already in them

Help!
I also have some questions!
First off, is it true that when u use the xtc clip u get free calls and texts Etc?
Also, Would it unlock a SIM-LOCK To a telstra locked Wildfire S?
PLEASE HELP ME I NEED TO ROOT MY PHONE TO FORCE APPS TO MY SD CARD (I'm VERY LOW ON INTERNAL MEMORY) AND LOW INTERNAL MEMORY = LAGGY **** PHONE
No free calls and txt tat imposible.
i read the posts regarding rooting ur phone.... but how do i come to know whether my bootloader is S-off or S on...
Make sure fastboot is disabled.....
Take out your battery, hold the VOL DOWN button and then hit Power....
Up top of that screen should tell you if you are S-Off or S-On
Follow the instructions by Ko_Ka after replacing your battery of course . You'll see the version of hboot.
At the beginning I don't succeed after trying several times, but when you'll see that screen : Kudos !
What are the advantages of rooting? My phone doesn't detect ad hoc WiFi created using windows 7 .... Will that problem solve after rooting?
I checked it... It's S On... And that tutorial said it has to be s off... Now what do I do?
You'll need to use a XTC Clip to do it manually.
Have a look at this thread - there may be someone with one near you who could unlock it for you, or you can buy one yourself. Mine was about 30Euros.

Firstly i woke this morning to find out HTC has unlocked our bootloaders which is fantastic. So like everybody else i immediately followed the instructions and unlocked it... (piece of cake)
But i was in town today and thought well now the bootloader is unlocked i'll get s-off aswell then i'm free from everything.
Went to the shop asked the guy and he had a xtc-clip and made the gold card what he thought was switching s-off.
But later after getting back home i noticed to my horror that S-ON is still showing.
I still have the gold card files on my sd-card.
Is there anything i can do to turn s-off now? do i still need the clip? would a bootloader change maybe work?
Please help if you can people
Many Thanks
You still need clip. goldcard is useless without the clip's SIM-Card simulator

Thank you for verifying that this update likely patches XTC exploit though. Fine if it's exploited then you unlock but not the other way around. I had my suspicions of this.
Think I'll stick with HBOOT 1.08 and skip the 1.08.099
As the other gent said. You need the sim dummy in place to S-OFF the phone. Go back to the shop and get him to do it again.
If not try downgrading to 1.08 hboot by performing a Euro RUU 2.3.5 update then go back to the shop. He shouldn't charge you to do it again. Just don't mention your little upgrade and unlock...

RUU 2.3.5 Update does not work any more after updating hboot
Oh i've been back twice since i found out that S was still on. The guy didnt even know what the S flag was about as he was more of a iphone lover. so thats why i asked him to redo it for me and i'll have the files on my sd card.
I read somewhere on a forum in the last hour that the clip sometimes doesnt sit in the sim slot correctly causing the clip not to function correctly. So that was probably the case.
If i reflashed a lower ruu wouldnt that then relock the bootloader? Just a thought.
Has anybody got a link to the ruu that had the 1.08 bootloader and not the 1.08.099 version?
oh sorry i know lots of questions but one thing i did know when he did the gold card and had the connection into the phone the CLIP was powered off a USB connection but i'm sure ive read somewhere that it needs to be powered by a 9v battery is that correct?
Anyway i have to wait now until monday before i can do anything.......
would liked to have flashed a new rom tonight but obviously cant
Many Thanks

Will have to look into that a bit later
Might be worth the moderators putting a notice up about the possibility that HTC whilst unlocking the bootloader have patched the CLIPS S-OFF function until we get some more information on it

I think the first step is to go back to that shop and get the guy to try S-OFF again and see if he just didn't clip it right. Seems odd that he wouldn't verify it at the time.
Anyone worth their salt would have rebooted to hboot and checked...
I'd rather that then sound a general alarm.

I have just been given an old Wildfire that is unrooted, s-on and network locked that has somehow managed to get itself into Qualcomm diagnostic mode. I am unable to get anywhere, adb - device offline. Is there anyway to force on USB debugging so that I am able to use a goldcard?

I'm a bit confused with this diagnostic mode?
If i remember correctly i was able to go into it with vol up + power but then after a battery pull it would reboot just fine........
Maybe as Lesicnik mentioned not so long back the volume button might be stuck or faulty hence pressing the power button will equal vol up+power and start diag mode.

qualcomm diagnostic mode happens when you f**k up the phone so bad that it doesnt know what else to do, and reverts to what i think is the backup firmware on the nand chip? not 100% sure. it usually results in the phone powering on but not showing anything on screen. but vibrates a few times depending on what the issue is. sometimes you can "blindboot" which is where you take a stock rom.zip from a ruu and place it on the sdcard and boot to bootloader. then by using time (ie waiting) and logic (when to try push volume up to update the rom+reboot) you can sometimes manage to restore the phone. as far as i am aware the guys over at the evo 3d forum are very advanced in how this mode actually functions. the htc sensation unbricking project, which helps people fix their phones after an attempt to s-on kills it was made with the help of the evo 3d guys knowledge. also i think jupuntobear s-off puts the phone into download mode before you do the "wire trick" to drop write security. so it is possible to fix this issue but it is quite a hard nut to crack.

Have already taken phone apart and checked all connections as my first thought was that something may have worked itself loose after being dropped or something.
Vol up + power and the phone buzzes/vibrates 3 times.
Managed to do a blind factory reset - vol down + power wait for a bit, then vol down etc, etc. After about 3-4 minutes I was able to push the soft buttons which light and vibrate. I am unable to do anymore than this due to usb debugging being off as I need to use adb to make a gold card and run a ruu. Thanks anyway.

do you know what network the phone was locked too? you could hunt for the offical ruu from that network with the 1.01.0002 hboot and try to blind boot that to restore the phone. if you can tell me the network its on i will help you hunt for the ruu 3 vibes is better than 5 as far i know. ive heard of people recovering from 3 vibes.
also, if you have access to another wildfire you can use that to make the goldcard and then use that on the damaged phone then it should run any ruu that has an equal or higher hboot ^^

The phone is locked to Vodafone UK. I've just spoken to my sister whose phone it was (she's not the most technically clued up of people) and she can't remember whether she upgraded to froyo or not. She's now got a GS2 and hasn't even done the official OTA update to ICS (and Touchwizzed Jellybean is on the horizon). So I'm betting its still on Eclair, but I can't be 100% sure. I've looked on the Vodafone UK site and the latest Wildfire software version is '2.24.161.2', which they are only giving out through an OTA. I'm not having much luck googling it either.
I don't have any access to another Wildfire, so the only thing I can think of is if I can find someone else who would be so kind as to make and upload a goldcard for me :fingers-crossed: (highly unlikely), otherwise I think the phone may be taking a trip to environphone (they give £20 for a working wildfire). I'll spend another couple of hours on it, seeing what I can come up with, but it's looking bleak at the moment .

Hi all,
I just joined this website. I got a HTC Desire HD, with Cyanogemod from this website cyanogenmod.org
Since yesterday its stuck in boot screen. The cyanogenmod booting animation keeps going forever. I got into the recovery mode once, and somewhere on another forum someone wrote that I had to click Fastboot. But now I cant get into recovery mode anymore, and my phone wont boot too.
What can I do to make my phone work again?
All help is highly appreciated!

Are you S-OFF or have an unlocked bootloader? if you don't know that then I suggest you do some reading first. There is a guide in my signature where you will find all that stuff.
Check the hboot and see what it says...it is not the same installation for S-OFF than being unlocked

Are you S-OFF or have an unlocked bootloader? if you don't know that then I suggest you do some reading first. There is a guide in my signature where you will find all that stuff.

I already told you what to do. A good piece of advice is to avoid messing around your device if you don't get what you are doing....when you are online let me know and we can arrange so I can connect to your PC via teamviewer to have a look at it.

Hi, you are such a good person that you are willing to take the time to help me. I really appreciate that. It is midnight now, so I need to go sleep. Will post here when I wake up.
Reboot into hboot by holding power and volume-down. What does it say?

It got fixed by teamviewer. thanks!
Hiho , i have a problem that my DHD wont start anymore after installing the newest update of the Jelly Time ROM.
USB Debugging is off and i cant turn it on and fastboot was allready on before i flashed it.
If i connect the device to my PC the CWM starts but i cant select wipe/factory reset by pushing the power button because the device will boot then.
