New issue: sometimes stops booting, even after reflash/kernel - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III Android Development

Been fine for about 6 months, then a few weeks ago i got the white screen of death - which it did about once a week so that wasn't a big deal - battery pull, startup and it'd just sit there with the logo spinning forever. Tried clearing dalvik, didn't help. So assumed some kind of corruption (even tho I'd had none for these same 6 months) and reinstalled the OS (Fat Free Froyo) and carried on. Then last week it did it again. So played with a couple of kernels and redid it. This time sys and data on nand (before I had data on SD, wanted to exclude the SD card from the equation). Tonight it's done it again.
So, considering that the same rom/kernel was fine for a good 6 months (approx xmas eve i think!) and it suddenly now dies randomly is my kaiser on the way out the door!?

Try this, flash a windows mobile version, any version, but if possible, one without a radio. Then flash a new radio. And finally, go back to android.
(why? i remember from the time of windows mobile only, there was the recomended sugestion to always flash a official/htc rom before flashing a custom, perhaps it will help you. Also, try scooter's new kernel with individual cache partition, it's working wonders for me )

thanks, going to try scooters kernerl and radio today, see how they go

HTC Desire Reboot Loop Problem

I have an interesting problem, kind of. Bought my phone second hand as supposedly unlocked & debranded but on boot up it after the HTC logo I get the Virgin Media logo, not really an issue though. Anyway the problem is when I switch the phone off and then switch on again it boots up fine to the home screen and then it will reboot itself and carries on doing this. i.e. boot up to home screen then reboot again continuously.
To get out of this reboot loop I have to remove the sim & boot the phone with no sim in it then switch off and insert my normal Vodafone phone sim and switch on again. after that the phone is fine until I power down and then the same thing happens.
Anybody else experienced this or got any ideas?? It came with 1.15.405.4 firmware already installed and I have tried reflashing with the same firmware using the goldcard method & it worked but the problem remains. When the sim registers on the network is when the reboot loop seems to start.
did you try reflashing it ?
hold down the side button (down) and press on at the same time.
then select erase data and press on again
if you bought it second hand, its hard to say what the previous user has done with it ...
Yep tried reflashing it, just about to reflash again with an older rom. It's just wierd that a sim card authenticating to the network would cause a reboot loop.

Maybe it's a dumb question - But I'm having some issues that doesn't seem to get solved by a factory reset - Would it be an idea to reflash it for this, so the phone gets a fresh rom?
How would I do it specifically? Do you know of a guide somewhere?

have you tried a different sim card ?
Ye tried a different sim card, boots fine and all is good till you reboot the phone and then the same happens again. Anyways flashing was a disaster this time round as I was doing it on my work pc and Symantec kicked in thinking it found a virus with adb.exe and halted the process & quarrantined the file. Now everytime I try and reflash on a different PC I get the dreaded error(110):file open error. Disconnect the phone & all I get is a black screen & HTC logo. Nice. Thanks Symantec you've just bricked my Desire!!
*UPDATE* - Fixed.
Removed the battery, left it for a few hours then reflashed on a different pc and it flashed fine. Then thought I'd try & repeat so reflashed with the older rom from here (originally used the newer rom posted on Modaco) and got the error again and again couldn't flash back to the newer. Removed the battery left for an hour and then could reflash again and get it working!! Wierd
I had the same problem.
My Solution: remove battery, remove the SIM, put battery reboot, turnoff, remove battery, put SIM, put battery, boot
first i want to excuse my bad english, hope you will undestand what i´m trying to say.
i have the same problem since a few days.
first time i notice it,was when the desire was charching and i used it a bit,it restarts again and again.so i put out the battery and wait a few minutes, than it works.
it´s also, when i use it a long time with wifi or 3G....the the phone turns off and i have the boot loop.
but when i take out my sim,it works fine.
my question is,do i need a new sim or is it a hardware problem?
does anybody know?
greetz from germany!
sorry, wrong thread

i have the exact same problem!! any solution? after that the phone will boot loop over and over! damn!
I had the same problem last week.
I suspected it had to do with the EXT3 partition.
Solved it by first flashing the OTA 2.2 ROM (for rooted users) as this does not use the EXT3. Then used Rom manager to recreate the EXT3.
Now all ROMs that use the EXT3 run fine!
hmmp
as long as i know, i did not install anything on my phone lately so thats the problem so far and i think tequila98 also having the same problem as me, cause when i remove my sim card the phone works fine. but ive reset my phone yesterday and not restarting so far hope this will continue.
I really wished there was a dead fix to this problem we are all having!
My problem:
My phone was running fine until a few weeks ago. There was no rebooting problems when I first got my phone (April) and when I flashed my phone for the first time (May). Happened a few weeks ago when I was browsing on YouTube where my phone suddenly restarted on it's own.
Before it was once a couple of days, now it has gotten more frequent and annoying.
I don't think the heat is the problem because I don't go on the internet much because of my data plan. I use wifi when I browse the web, youtube, etc. And I certainly don't use Google maps or any heavy duty applications. That's just what I think...
My phone rebooted 3 times today in a time span of 4 hours? I noticed that my phone rebooted itself when I use the camera to take a picture or video. Doesn't happen everytime, but that's what happened today. Also, when my phone rebooted today, my application Advanced Task Killer was automatically removed from my phone! That was weird... But I experienced another reboot even after having the app removed.
I really hope someone can find the core of this problem and fix it!
My phone is running on DeFroST 2.0b Android 2.2
My battery stats: 42% for display, 26% for cell standby, 21% for phone idle, 4% for android system, 3% for voice calls, 2% for android OS

It's probably hardware problem with motherboard. Therefore I recommend you to take your phone to repair center and they should replace mobo with new one. That's what I did and now everything is ok.
I am having the exact same problem. Seems to be related to the SIM.
But the SIM works fine in another phone.
Did anyone find any more information?
If you get random reboots its most likely ther motherboard there is a massive thread about it on the forums. You need to send it off to a HTC repair centre.
Just got this problem.
I rooted yesterday. Today I made a nandroid backup. After that the phone is in a reboot loop.
How is this possible from just and backup???
Tnx.

Edit:
Restored backup and is working fine again.
nandroid backup loop

I will try it. Maybe the backup is not only a backup but also a remove? Strange.
I will comment if this works also for me.
EDIT: Restore helps

Constant Rebooting

Everything has been fine until yesterday morning, when at work I realised my phone was rebooting every 3 or 4 minutes.
I hadn't changed anything, I hadn't flashed anything, I don't O/C my phone. I'm usins AOKP Milestone 3 with Immoysen Kernel.
I've tried -
Reflashing AOKP with no custom kernel
Wipe & flashing CM9 Kang
Wipe & flashing MCR
When I tried to make a Nandroid of MCR (as it seemed to be okay for an hour or so) it gave an error when it got to backing up the data partition. Could their be a corrupt bit of memory there?
Also, at one point I think it might have reset while in recovery, which makes me think it's hardware, not software.
Today I've tried -
locking and unlocking the bootloader
Android_Revolution_HD_Super_Wipe_Lite
Wipe and flash AOKP B23
Generally it seems to be better after a wipe and a fresh install, for a little while, but then seems to start rebooting again later.
I locked and unlocked again around an hour and a half ago and all seems good at the moment, but I thought I'd post still to see if anyone else has had this happen or see if anyone has ideas of how to de-bug it should it come back?
I had this problem after upgraded to 4.0.2. Fresh install did solved this somehow but last week it came back again when dial starts...
Tho it seems un-checked all options in location services would not reboot during or after the call
Hope this info could help u
Thanks. Well, 6 hours since I locked the bootloader and unlocked it again (to wipe everything, including the SD storage) and it's not rebooted once. Looks like it's fixed *touch wood*
I have random turn offs... dunno if it relates. Its a little unnerving...and annoying. No roots, no unlocks, just vanilla 4.0.2.

(A Type of) Random Reboot Problem Solved?

Short version:
Use CWM or TWRP to (1) format sdcard, (2) erase dalvik cache, (3) erase cache and (4) factory reset. This seems to resolve at least one source of random reboots. If installing a new ROM, do that first and then followed by the four steps, then boot into the new ROM. Step (1) may be the important one (in which case it might, in principle, be possible to solve the problem while saving userdata), but I don't know.
UPDATE: It was working fine and I had to spoil it all by installing MIUI, just for kicks. Now, the old problem is back and the solution above doesn't seem to work. Looks like this is not a completely reliable solution...
* * * * *
Long version:
My wife's GNex was in a very bad way. It is entirely stable in Android 4.0.2. But if either upgraded or flashed to anything else, will randomly reboot. Actually, it's not even that random--it will reboot on its own within a couple of minutes of idle with the screen off. I tried all sorts of things--flashed different ROMs, radios, etc.--factory reset multiple times. Googling turns up lots of chatter about random reboots but little by way of viable solution. I figured that the problem may be hardware related. But all Samsung's servicing did for me is to return the unit to 4.0.2. At that time, 4.0.4 was just released and the local servicing centre hadn't even received their copy of the ROM (for yakjuwx). In the end, I 'solved' the problem by rooting and disabling the OTA update notification. (My wife wasn't bothered by the fact that she wasn't running the latest Android version. And the phone works fine in 4.0.2 otherwise.) Work and life caught up and I didn't think much of the matter after that.
That was about a year ago.
Recently, I migrated my wife to a brand new GNex, and took the opportunity to try my hand at solving the problem again. I flashed the latest 4.3 ROM, the latest stable CM10.1, Paranoidandroid, etc. But no matter what I tried, somehow, the phone is stable only with Android 4.0.2 (ICL53F). A chance find online mentioned something about data corruption on the sdcard as a source of problem, and that the usual factory reset doesn't actually reformat the sdcard (it only marks it as empty). Putting 1 and 1 together, I used CWM to do the things listed above (see "short version") and now, the phone is running stock 4.3 (JWR66V), stable CM10.1 and Paranoidandroid without random reboots so far. So now, I am a happy camper, though with one extra, fully functional white GNex.
Footnote: If you don't understand what I said in the short version, it's best you don't try doing anything yourself without first reading up on fastboot commands. This is one place to start. I am not responsible for anyone bricking their device fooling around.
Thanks for reading.
Update to my adventure.
Just about resigned to the fact that the phone is back to its old ways. The old tricks no longer work. What happened next?
1. Left off for more than a day (I gave up).
2. Installed AOSPA PARANOIDANDROID 3.96--using CWM, installed ROM, GApps, wipe dalvik, wipe cache, format sdcard.
Weirdly, the phone now seems fine. It hasn't rebooted by itself after 30+min in sleep. The old problem was that it will invariably reboot by itself in within 2 minutes from screen off so even if there are other problems, the old one is not there anyway.
Something in the steps above seems to have made a difference.
Still monitoring.

[Q] Rebooting and memory problems

(I am running rooted stock 4.3 now)
Six months ago I had a problem with the speed of the phone. It kept freezing , was sluggish etc. but I solved it by running lag fix + other apps and also factory resetting. The problem started slowly, day by day the phone was slower and more unresponding. After 4.3 I thought it is gone (because of trim support).
However last week the same thing has started, phone was slower and slower... But, 2 days ago it started rebooting itself randomly (every 5 minutes) and Play store, Gmail and other apps started FCing. Today I tried doing nandroid backup, which failed, after reboot I couldn't access internal storage, and after another reboot all application data were deleted. I did factory reset but it didn't help. Now I can access internal storage but the phone is still rebooting every 5 minutes and I am wondering what to do.
I have 2 options, lock bootloader and send it to Samsung, or try to fix it myself. What do you think?
well if you still have warranty better lock the bootloader back and sent it for repair..

One X keeps crashing no matter what HELP PLEASE

so here's the deal
i've been using my One X for a year or two now, half of the time with cyanogenmod on it, the other with Paranoid Android
but one day, the launcher crashed.
I rebooted it, thinking it was a temporary problem, and everything went fine for a few hours
after which multiple apps started crashing, then the launcher again.
I rebooted it again, hoping the problem would magically vanish, but my phone wouldn't boot, it'd stay on the bootloader screen
for a while now if I stood in the Phone app i'd be fine until the end of the day
since then, every time I install a ROM on my phone, it would go fine for a few hours, even a day or two, but then the problems come back, though I haven't been stuck in the bootloader since
i've tried formatting the SD card, i've tried restoring my phone from a clockworkmod backup and i've tried installing over 10 ROMs now, both sense-based and AOSP
HELP, PLEASE, I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO ANYMORE
