[Q] Not able to write on sdcard in windows 7 - Desire HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

After mounting sdcard in windows 7 I was able to write files on sdcard till yesterday. But now I am not able to write any file in windows 7, it says write access denied. I get full access (read+write) when I use my phone to access my sdcard. In fact sdcard is accessible in read only mode through windows but write access fails.
Has anyone faced this problem before?
Can someone suggest me how to fix this problem?

Install Linux and all will be well, seriously there must be someway of accessing the card as an administrator in windows?

try opening/exploring the folder as administrator

How do you mount SC card to Windows7? Do you use your phone in Disk drive mode or you unplug your card and use MicroSD->SD adapter?
Maybe your adapter has been switched to LOCK state.

Help! SD card in Read only Mode!

I tried installing the nfl unlocker 64 file by changing the zip to apk and attmepting to install it. Well it didn't work and right afterward I got an ! mark and it said card in read mode only. So I cannot delete, edit...files etc on the sd card. I am at work. No way to connect it to the pc to back up the sd card to try reformatting it, does anyone know any other ways to get this read mode off? I do have terminal emulator installed.
TIA
Yep this has happened thrice to me. Others have experienced this also after froyo.
One or two have stated trying to fix the card error using windows scan disk (if you have access to a pc) fixed the error. I have had success by copying the card image file, inserting the card into a card reader on the ltop, formatting the card there, then restoring the backed up image.
Aa stated this happened to me more than once. Has not happened in a few weeks.

Also...hwo do you save the image file?

Install Windows from Phone?

I am not sure the correct section to put this into, but here goes.
I have heard ways to install Windows from a USB stick. I was wondering since I do not have a USB stick big enough and also a blank DVD on hand if I could place the image onto my Android SD card and install/reformat my computer that way.
Thanks!
PS. Please move to correct section if need be.
I don't think you could because the computer hardware doesn't recognize the sd card as a mass storage device, the software does, if you get what I mean.
I don't think it's possible to write a Windows live disk to the SD card and use it to format the Windows installation.
This in theory could be done. The one issue you might have is your computer might not recognize the SD card as a bootable option. If you can boot to USB device it might work. Also it isn't as simple as copying a windows install disk to the USB there is work that needs to be done to get it to read correctly and install. If you google linux pen drive I think it has a option to copy the windows cd to the drive boot to linux and install windows.
Yes you can do it. Sd card readers are on a usb connection to the motherboard of a pc. You have to make the sd card a bootable disk though the same way you would for a flash drive.
Never done it with the epic but I used to run puppy linux off my winmo samsung blackjack 2 on a thin client wyse computer. It had a micro sd card in it too. You would need to use a linux distro to be able to properly create a windows installation on another form of media though. Good luck

Transferring files to SD Card (External) - error messages?

Hi,
For some reason I've been unable transfer files to my (external) SD Card while it's installed in my S3 and connected via USB. I always get an error message (on Windows).
I always have to pull the Micro-SD card out and connect it via a card reader on my PC.
Anyone else encounter the same issue.
I'm using Windows 7.
I could post screen-caps of the error messages later if needed.
Are you able to transfer files to and from the internal storage of the S3?

When you are attempting to transfer files are you dragging the file to the phone storage or external? When you drag the file over your phone it should auto open a dropdown that has phone and then SD card or external card. Also are you on a bootcamped Mac running Windows 7? Mac will throw those errors unless you copy the file from your Mac partition to your Windows partition.
Just to knock the easy ones out of the way... USB debugging enabled, drivers installed for MTP?
Can you post the error message please?
And no the irony isn't lost on me that I own a macbook pro and have a member ID poking fun at Apple. I'm a full Android convert. I love my macbook though...

SD Card Problems

Putting this out there because I've never seen this before and cannot find anything on it to fix it.
I have a 64gb microSD card that is formatted FAT32. Been working fine for months and all of the sudden, after trying to copy a zip file onto it yesterday, I no longer have write permissions. I just want to format it and start over but I can't. I've tried formatting it with 4 different programs in windows. I can't write anything to it via usb cable if its mounted in my S3. I can't write anything or delete anything via root explorer. I've tried multiple computers, different adapters in my computer, writing to it anyway that I know how and nothing works. It was never encrypted or anything, just a straight up plain microSD card.
Does anyone know how to remove write protections via a PC or force a format? I've tried to format unsuccessfully multiple times, presumably because it is write protected somehow.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Bump.
I've tried to completely repartition multiple times on two different OS's, no luck. Can't get this thing format at all. I can delete a file(s) and create new folders, and it'll show the changes initially, but then if I re-mount it, everything is the same.
When I run a repair program it points to the previously mentioned zip file, saying its corrupt but there is no way that I can see to wipe it. Ideas?
Try fixing permissions and check the first 9 boxes using root explorer.
EDIT: if you are trying to put files over 4GB it will not work.

I tried earlier in the day fixing permissions and it was a no-go. I couldn't do anything through the phone and that's why I just pulled the card and started trying to format/wipe/re-partition the card via computer. It was the same story for both devices though. I could make a change to a file (i.e. delete or move something) but as soon as I remounted the card, it would be like nothing I did ever happened. All the files prior to this happening are there and readable, I just can't create anything new or delete anything.

There's a switch on the side of your SD adapter to toggle read/write

I wish it was that simple. If I put the switch in the locked position, the computer recognizes it as locked. However, if I put it up where it is supposed to be to write to the card, the computer thinks its writable but won't actually erase anything. Same thing is going on when I put the card in my phone and try to manipulate files, without an adapter.
Sounds like the card itself went bad and needs to be replaced.

Format it in Recovery, that;s how I did mine.

I tried that a couple of times . At first glance it looks like it's formatted, none of the files show up. However, after rebooting, everything is still there--nothing changed. I just want to wipe this thing but I nothing is taking. I am starting to think that this thing is just done but I am holding out hope because I can still see and read the files that were on there before this fiasco.
Every time I run a repair utility, it points to the zip that caused all of this trouble, saying that it is corrupt but I can't wipe it. I have no idea what to do.

Try the Windows Disk Management
Right click it, and hit delete. Right click the unallocated space and choose Create and format NTFS. Then format it to to FAT32

The option to delete the volume is grayed out. Any attempt to format fail. When I run disk repair it does find a problem with the zip file that caused this mess and tells me to run chkdsk to fix it. I do but it never fixes anything.
Is there a program that will forcefully wipe out the partition so that it can be reformatted?
Bump.. Same problem here .Did you find any solution?

Try this:
- Go to start, type in cmd
- Right click on cmd, and select "run as Administrator"
- command line will start w/ Admin privileges
Here, you need to run a program called DiskPart. It helps you "clean" hard drives that have many partitions that aren't normally accessible.
- from cmd line, type diskpart
- a new command line program will start
- here, type "list", it will show you a list of commands.
- type "list disk", find out which disk is your 64GB micro (mine happens to be disk 8)
- type "select disk #" (# is your disk you want for cleaning)
- disk # will be selected.
Very important: Make sure you have the right disk!
- If you are sure, type in the word "clean". This will completely wipe out the disk that was selected.
after that, you're done, you can exit DiskPart/cmd.
Go back to Disk Management, and now you can see that the whole drive is unallocated.
At this point, you can format your drive (using your Android device or Windows, to FAT32 or exFAT)

[Q] can't move files from lg g3 sd card to pc

Hi
I moved acouple of avi files from internal storage to the sd card connected the phone to pc but the files. wont trasnfer over i can see the files on the sd card click copy but when i go to paste the files onto the pc nothing happens. If i remove the card from the phone and use a usb adapter to connect it to the pc the files copy ok.Obviously i don't want to unmount the card from the phone everytime i need to transfer a file to the pc can anyone help me with this
Maybe a formatting error. Sounds ridiculous I know... pointless getting technical, so just wipe the card and see if that fixes your issue
Hi stevepork
I just tried that and its just the same. i was wondering if it might have something to do with kitkat 4.4.2 which the phone is running.

What is your USB settings ? PTP or MTP ?
Hi
It's mtp when on ptp i just see an image of a camera and have access only to the photos on the phone
What you you see when you right-click on the sdcard file from the computer to show its properties ?
properties doesnt come up only open and explore
Maybe you need this: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=nextapp.sdfix
As I've only had it a month i don't want to root the phone as it'll void the guarantee which I'd have to do to use the app

Dont worry about warranty when rooting.
There is a way to get everything back to normal.

I'm using the folder mount app to move the files to external sd.
I can move files from internal storage to sd card but i cant get them off the sd card without removing it from the phone and connecting it separately to the pc
it's the security measures that prevent unauthorized access to the sdcard. if you don't want to root, you can move your movies to the dcim folder then you can access it under PTP
Thanks alot for that i just tried it and it works a bit slow but better than keep having to take the back of the phone off and on and unmounting the sd card.do you have a link to rooting the g3 I'd like to look into it sp long as its fairly simple and can be reversed
Read this thread for rooting, the unroot method is explained in the second post : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2821000
Hi
