Xoom Camera kit not working as OTG cable - Galaxy S II Accessories

I got the Xoom Camera kit cable to use as an otg cable for my galaxy s II. When I plug it in, I get no notification or any sign that the phone recognizes it. I also tried pluggin in a pen drive and changing roms/kernels but nothing works. Is the cable defective? Or maybe I got the wrong one? Any help would be appreciated.

please help. I dont want to return the cable for nothing

[Q] xoom usb-otg cable not working

found in some other post.
"the connection between pin 4 and 5 determine, what kind of connection it is: charging, sync, usb otg, mhl, trigger download mode... and indeed, that is done by putting in different resistor strengths."
is there anyone out there that has a GNexus and a xoom original camera connection kit to try, see if is the same as what i get which is nothing?
thanks.
I tried my Xoom cable too and nothing worked. So what cable do people suggest using for the Galaxy Nexus? Is there a Samsung one guaranteed to work or will we have to just find some and try them out?

[Q] OTG USB hosting?

Is there a trick to getting the OTG/USB hosting to work? I have the latest Juggernaut ROM & latest Faux kernel. I received an OTG cable, but the phone doesn't react in any way to it. The light on my USB flash drive doesn't light up, mouse doesn't work, etc. Do I have a bad cable, perhaps? Or is there some setting I need to activate?
Thanks!

It should work just fine out of the box. I got a USB OTG adapter from deal extreme that works wonders!
Sent from my SGH-T989 using xda premium
it works fine as stated above
i have it, and i use it often with USB drives
just need a USB to microUSB OTG adapter
This is the cable I got:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=120836061331&ssPageName=ADME:L:OC:US:1123
So I guess it's either not compatible with the T989 or the cable is defective? It fits in the bottom of the phone no problem, and USB devices physically plug in properly.

I have the Same problem like you have on your Phone. I have the Juggernaut V3.7 and and Bullet Kernel which support the OTG usb but I can not read the USB Flash Drive either.I think it's a bad USB adapter I bought it from Ebay too.
OK, I ordered another version of the cable, hopefully that will do the trick!
Thanks, fellas!
I received this OTG USB cable, which says it's for T-Mobile's Hercules, in the mail yesterday and it works great:
www ebay com/itm/200697301772#ht_1335wt_994
Seems to be very good quality. Another host cable I'd tried for the international version of the SGS2 (GT-i9100) did not work. It did work on my brother's i9100 he purchased in Europe, so the cable was good - just not cross-compatible (at least for that particular cable).

USB OTG cable with charging - is that possible?

While researching ability to use USB DAC while charging the phone in the car I found this video. The guy clearly says that tablet is charging while accessing all those accessories via USB OTG. Similar cables are found on ebay, called "USB OTG with power".
The big question is: would the Galaxy S3 actually charge while using USB DAC at the same time? It should be possible, but I don't have the phone yet (still considering it), nor do I have the cable, nor a USB DAC In theory it should be the same with any accessory - can someone actually confirm either way, whether phone can or can't charge in USB OTG mode with similar cable? This video shows similar setup on Galaxy S (only it's normal OTG cable, USB hub, usb Y-cable and card reader) and it's definitely charging while mounting USB devices! Will S3 do the same?
I fear that upgrading from Galaxy S with voodoo control of Wolfson chip to north-American S3 with worse audio path might not suit me if there's no way to power the phone and use external DAC at the same time in the car... I hope there is a way... I appreciate any advice and opinions.
It's a first time I see such cable...All I read was people saying it's impossible in the first place. Well, hopefully in 2 weeks I'll be able answer your question

Looks like it's possible on some devices, but not with Galaxy and Nexus family... But it would be great if you can confirm that, so let me know if you can try it. Thanks.
Finally got the cable.
The result - nope, doesn't charge
Maybe the "Allshare hub" could do what your asking for?

Sonic, any luck with your friends phone? Really looking foward to your results :fingers-crossed:
Do you have part #s for the variable resistors in your samsung post or at least where you got them from? I would be willing to try some things out if I could find the right pieces. What I really want to get my hands on is the MHL adapter that was shown off with that spider laptop at IFA a couple weeks ago..
SUCCESS!!! I can confirm that this USB OTG cable (http://ebayitem.com/190710044655) DOES CHARGE MY GALAXY S3! I plugged in USB cardreader with SD card into the phone through this cable (it lit up and card is fully readable), then plugged USB cable end into PC and phone showed a charging icon! Moreover, after waiting for 5 min. with screen off (cardreader still glowing blue and working) battery has gone up from %72 to %75 (and while I was writing this, to 78%), so it is indeed charging! Yay! It probably won't get up in the car, where just phone alone is "not discharging" at best from the car adapter, but at least it should allow me to listen to music with quality DAC and use navigation without (or with minimal) discharging.
I have not tested it with USB DAC that I intend to use for my car (Behringer UCA222), because I have to go out and buy it. Hopefully it works. Anyway, this cable definitely works with simultaneously charging my north-american Samsung Galaxy S3 (from Bell Canada) while powering USB cardreader!
Somebody else has mentioned that another cable (http://ebayitem.com/120980364117) also worked in his Galaxy S2.
I bought Behringer UCA222 USB DAC and tested it in my car with the USB OTG cable with power that I mentioned. It works great! And the phone is indicating a charge. Sometimes when first playing music after plugging the device it sounds like fast forward for a few seconds (I guess clock rate mismatch or something similar), but after the presumably clock is locked it plays perfectly fine.

That is outstanding..gonna order one of these guys right now.
Here is a better link for all the ebay listings. Be aware of the differences, MicroUSB adapters would allow you to use your existing charge cable to plug into it while the standard USB would require you to be very close to the charger or have a USB A-A cable to attach to a power source.

The problem is that apparently not all of those cable work in terms of charging the phone. People say mostly that it doesn't work. The only guy mentioned success is with the cable I bought, but he then confirmed it with another, more convenient cable. I have the one that needs a USB extension cable to reach the charger, but it's about a buck on ebay, so no problem there. But not all cables work this way: most reportedly will allow you to power USB accessories but not charge the phone.
I found that this configuration works for charging while in USB HOST mode:
S3 -> standard otg cable -> Powered USB2.0 HUB -> devices (keyboard, usb dac, usb hdd...)
The only catch is that the hub must be powered before you plug in the phone or the phone will try to power the hub and will never enter charging mode. I'm using this setup in my car and it works perfectly. As long as I start the car before plugging the phone, we are good to go.
I only confirmed this works with AOKP JB builds. No idea about other roms/kernels. Hopefully this helps someone.

I got mine in the mail today (ordered 10/16) and tried it out as soon as I could. I can confirm it charges and allows for OTG at the same time. This is the auction I bought from: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=251127542280&ssPageName=ADME:L:eek:U:US:3160

I realyl do not want to return my note II since i already rooted it..and custom rom and kernel..

Have you tried other USB cables? I have the same problem with my stock USB cable too and thought there might be something wrong with my phone, but then I tried a different USB cable and it held on well.

This was my experience as well. Try other cables before you swap out your phone! :good:
The same with my cable. I guess they did it on purpose, that whenever your phone is 'tugged' the usb cable will be released instead of your movement being violently restricted by the force of the cable, which may cause you to drop your phone.
Any way, i bought a 3rd party flat USB cable which length exceeds 3 - 4 times the original cable , and it fits tightly in my phone's USB port. So i believe it is cable related.
I have the same problem, I guess it's just the one they sent. Oh well.
I did buy another cable, however I noticed that charging becomes extremely slow with it. I'm hoping to be able to find a better one that can support the higher charge needed for the phone, in the meantime I'll be leaving the phone down while charging I guess.

+1 same thing for me too. I was so worried thought it was a problem with the charging port but it seems the problem is with the charger cable. Using other cable is no issues.
Obviously it pops out very easy. I'm on my 3rd Samsung Micro USB cable, all are same.
But then I've tried my friends Galaxy Ace cable and it was fine. So you just buy a different Micro USB cable which will have same 2A output like stock one.

I. too, was worried when i first got the fone.... but it's the stock cable... tried another cable from another brand/manufacturer and it fits perfect.
I seem to be quite lucky. My stock cable fits nice and snug. I can even dangle the phone upside down holding only the cable and it wont come out unless I swing it or tug it harder lol
If you compare the stock cable with other cables you'll see that the plug on the stock cable is usually shorter than other cables by a millimetre or 2 so the little prongs on the plug probably arent grabbing onto the slots of the phone
Mine 2. I just stick blue tack on it

Yup, same here. I find the cable that came with my wife's Kindle is the best fit - needs a real pull to detach it!

Can't Get Mirco to USB OTG to work

Hey Guys,
I recently bought a Micro to USB OTG cable but unfortunately can't get it to work on my new S Tab(10.5).
I am able to get it to work on my Galaxy S3 phone and old Nexus 7 tab so it appears that the cable works fine. My S Tab is not rooted and currently does have the latest updates. I also ran the OTG checker which verifies that my tablet has the necessary files. When I run the OTG troubleshooter tho it does not appear to be picking up my cable at all.
I originally bought this to use my wired 360 controller on my tablet, the 360 controller and flash memory sticks are the only things I have tested on the cable itself. Like I said above, my S3 and Nexus 7 picks up these 2 devices just fine through the cable.
Anything that I am missing? Any tips/quirks to get this to work?
Thanks so much for your time/help!
P.S. attempted to post link to my exact cable but couldn't because I am a new member.
Are you willing to have device root and flash a custom kernel?
If yes, then my SkyHigh kernel does support OTG and has in-built XPAD (XBOX) controller module and confirmed working by another user. Some games may require you to map the controller with a certain app, some without.
FS support is dependent on kernel. If you are trying to mount NTFS r/w, then you will need to also install Paragon app or navigate to /mnt/ntfs/.... for kernel NTFS r/o
It's possible that it could be your cable. I had problems a couple years ago with an otg cable not working on my Note 2 but working in a couple older devices. It turns out it was because the micro usb end that plugs into the phone was too short to plug in all the way. I'm not sure if it's a new standard or something, but my Note 2, Note 8, S5 and Tab S all seem to have a cable with a longer micro usb tip than any of my previous devices have.
Hold the otg cable next to the charge cable that came with your Tab S and see if the tip of the otg cable is a couple of millimetres shorter. Also plug the charge cable into the tab and notice the way it kind of "clicks" into place when you push it in the last little bit. Now plug in the otg cable and see if it has the same "click" feel. If not, then I'd bet it's your cable. I have an otg cable that specifically states that it's for an S5 and it works perfectly on all the devices mentioned above. I also have a generic otg cable that works on my old galaxy nexus but doesn't work on any of the above devices.
Here's the old thread in case that helps:

Thanks for the reply's.
I don't really want to go down the Root road because I have never gone through that process and don't feel comfortable with it at this time.
The cable Micro pin portion definitely doesn't fit as snug as the S Tab charger. The OTG cable actually appears to be longer than my S Tab charger Mirco pin. When plugged in you can tell it sticks out a smidge....The thing with that though, it does the same exact thing on my other 2 devices that work with the cable.
Guess it could be the cable, just hate to send this back and order another and be in the same boat.

Cable or no cable, if you wish XPAD controller, then you'll need the kernel or loadable kernel compiled module. Other features (some I described) also require kernel. ... all requiring root.
Since you've ruled that out, you just need to forget many features that are available with some other devices and move on.
Best of luck.
