I am looking to root my Droid Inc2 but I need to know how to go back to a complete stock/unrooted state for when I have to send my phone into Verizon. I'm thinking this would require the stock RUU file if I'm not mistaken.
Could anyone let me know how to go about this before I root my device?
Thanks.
Would also like to know this.
Yes you would need a stock ruu but if you root using alpharev method there is currently no way back to complete stock your bootloader will remain s-off

Bump.
Will the phone ever be able to go back to FULL stock with S-On? Or is this just a temporary situation? Because down the road, there might be issues where I might have to do a warranty replacement.
I'm pretty sure if you just flash the stock rom you will be fine sending it back. I have heard horror stories about people being denied warranty service for sending in s off phones but don't put much stock into it. That is just my opinion tho...

So, my main speaker blew and I'm going to take it in to have it warrantied. I have gotten to the point where I can get unrooted but I still have s-off or i can get to the point where i have s-on but rooted. How can I do both? I've searched so please don't flame.
I'm fairly certain that you need to grab one of the PB31IMG.zip files with the unrooted stock 2.1 floating around and install that. Then run the S-on tutorial. You should be good to go after that. For ****s and giggles once you do that you should be able to check for updates and the froyo update should be there.

Put s-on then unroot by RUU back to stock.

So, basically, turn s-on then find one of the "official" rb31img.zip files and flash that from the hboot right?
really dont even bother. just call customer service, since they are going to have to order it for you anyways. 18664065154, state you already took it to a technician and they reset and wiped handheld. They will send it to any address (not po box) you want. Keep it the way you have it.
ps and if they ask you why you didnt just get it replaced in store tell them you would have but you wanted to back up your stuff first.
Besides if you do a nandroid backup you can get it right where it was pre defect.
Should he be going back to 2.1 or run the leak for 2.2? Would it matter at this point? I was just thinking about this issue also.
customer service is just going to do a factory reboot and dump all memory anyways. just keep what he has on it. By the time it goes to replacement center hes probably going to upgrade to his next phone. Besides they have no ideas whos phone it is anyways.
I had to get a new phone. I left s-off and reverted back to non rooted 2.1, they don't look at stuff like that. At least they didn't for me.

Curious how you blew the speaker...seems to be a pretty common problem these days but I've never seen anyone say how they did it...
So recently I warrantied a G2 and was glad I never rooted and rommed it with CM7. I had CM on my old G1 and would love to get into it again. Can I go back to stock in case I need this one warrantied? I don't want them to know I did anything with it. The other topics that popped up in the search weren't specific with warranty. Thanks.
Yes there are procedures you have to follow in order to unroot and s-on again if you have to return it for warranty reasons or whatever reason you have. Its pretty simple... but it matters what method of rooting you did. Like unforgivens way of rooting you have to hex edit and while on gfree you can flash the PC10IMG.zip but still get s-off and you have to follow more procedures i think to get s-on...

Hey everyone I just wanted to know if there's an easy way to unroot or just get s-on so I can take my EVO to sprint for repair...I've searched for some stuff and found that there is an s-on tool zip from unrevoked and the unroot method but I was wondering if I would be able to just get s-on for repair and then get s-off via another zip or adb...I have rooted using the unrevoked method and I have the .76 eng bootloader
Open to any suggestions...just trying to find the quickest and easiest way to save root if at all possible...thanks in advance

sprint wont even look if you're using a stock rom they wont even notice, they will only notice if you are running a modded os

Well I was gonna flash a stock rom but I read that if they see s-off in hboot they'll void my insurance and warranty

It all depends on the sprint store, the tech that's looking at it, and if that tech got laid the night before. Its unpredictable. Most probably wouldn't even check, but its possible to get that one tech that plays by the rules and takes life too seriously. I say unroot it to be safe.
If you're on the Eng. 76 bootloader, you're always going to be s off, until you change bootloader. You said you also ran unrevoked at some point? I would just flash the unrevoked s on tool, and then run an ruu, and be done with it. Then you don't have to worry. I'm the type that'd rather be safe than sorry, and have.my account flagged.

Hi All,
I have a US Cellular BravoC that needs to go in for repair. I am one of the unlucky ones who are experiencing the overheating/forced resetting while doing CPU intensive tasks.
I currently have S-OFF, CWM Recovery 3.0.2.4
I know that I can download 2.2 RUU in fastboot and that will return my phone to unrooted, S-ON... and my warranty repair should go through fine. The problem is, I want to be able to return to CM or Oxygen when I get my phone back.
1) If I return a phone with S-OFF and CWM recovery is it likely that HTC will deny the warranty repair?
2) Does anyone know if there is an RUU for 2.1?
3) Is it possible to flash the stock recovery and leave S-OFF as a back door?
4) Is it even likely that I will get the same software back? In other words... should I not even worry about because I will likely get back something different (Just flash the 2.2 RUU and say screw it).
I still do not really understand the whole "goldcard" thing or how to really use fastboot effectively, so I don't have the untouched ROM that came with the phone. Only the rooted one I created with nandroid backup before installing CWM
Sorry, I know that is a lot of questions but they are all very closely related. I have searched through the forum and did not find anything that really answers these.
Thanks for any advice you may have!
When you get your phone back you can just reroot and S-OFF again. You need to find the US Cellular ruu and run it.
Maybe someone else can help you with that.
So if I understand this correctly, even if I have 2.2 installed (which, as of now, can not be rooted) I could find and install the 2.1 RUU and then root the phone? I think the problem is HTC never released a 2.1 RUU. I am pretty sure I go to 2.2 (or HTC upgrades my phone to 2.2) I will lose the ability to root it.
Man, I just hate the stock ROM so much I want to try avoiding it at all costs.
So I'm ending Verizon and need to give my phone to best buy for the buyback program but I don't think they will take it running rooted I know the new ota is out but what do I do to do this ota do I flash a froyo stock rom? Or ...
Help me out guys thanks alot ill miss my incredible and y'all aswell
Ill be getting att infuse 4g over the HTC inspire 4g I think..

I'd put it back to stock 2.2. There are a couple "get back to stock" threads in the development section, basically you'll just have to flash the S-ON zip in recovery, then flash the stock 2.2 RUU.
Just wondering, does Verizon refuse to work on your phone if it is rooted? Different scenarios:
1) Hardware issue. Do they care if it is S-Off and has a custom ROM?
2) Will they not even touch a phone that is obviously rooted?
3) Do they care about S-Off when you take it in?
Evo 4G over here, Sprint works on rooted phones. If it is a software issue they will RUU you, but won't mess with S-Off
Thanks! this is helpful

I personally would return the phone to stock before returning it for a hardware issue, but I think most Verizon employees (a) don't care about rooting because their phones are probably rooted as well, or (b) wouldn't even know what S-OFF means or what to look for to determine if a phone's rooted. This is assuming you're just going in to your neighborhood Verizon store for a few questions or something, not for warranty issues, those people that receive the phones might look for root, who knows?
I think there's a lot more paranoia about rooting and Verizon's stance on it than is warranted though. I've seen all sorts of rumors about Verizon "tracking" rooted users, or building a database of rooted phones. Those kind of rumors have been going on for a while with no sort of confirmation or anything whatsoever coming from them.
FWIW, I've returned a rooted, s-off Incredible, with an Unrevoked splash screen to Verizon for a warranty repair. The employee did not care. (or maybe they just didn't have a clue.)

Question
I flash both at the same time like
S-on tool then right away stock ruu?
Sent From My Optimized HTC Incredibly Dinc
The timing doesn't really matter, but the S-ON zip has to be flashed in recovery whereas the RUU is flashed in hboot. The RUU replaces CWM recovery with the stock recovery, and you couldn't flash the S-ON zip with the stock recovery. But it shouldn't matter as far as flashing the RUU *right* after the S-ON zip, since the RUU is official HTC firmware, you can flash it with S-ON, anytime. Bear in mind that you can't downgrade with S-ON though, for example, if you flash the 2.3 RUU (with S-ON) there's no way to get back to 2.2.
Thinking about it, even if you flashed the RUU first, you still have S-OFF, so would be free to install a custom recovery & superuser then flash back to whatever.
