[q] please help -bricked g2/vision !!!! - G2 and Desire Z Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

okay so i was trying to install cyanogenmod 7 on my tmobile G2 (vision) , at first when i added the google apps and everything crashed including adw launcher (i think thats how its spelled) so i yanked out my battery and cleared user data and then it was stuck at the bootloop so i tryed to reinstall and then it failed saying (status 1) , i tryed nightly and regular but they wouldnt install , i even tryed to restore but it wouldnt let me , clockworkmod recovery tells me that ( E: cant mount /cache/recovery/command , /cache/recovery/log , and /cache/recovery/last_log ) i try to format /system , /data , /cache but none of them will format or even mount , so i come to result that my G2 is BRICKED
i still have s-off and i can still access recovery but i cant do anything , and when i tryed to flash a PC10IMG.zip it trys to update the bootloader and gives me Fail-pu , is there anything i can do to make my phone operational ? i need my phone working as soon as possible , PLEASE AND THANK YOU

i can access fastboot if this helps anybody with helping me , i dont really know how to work it but i get the basics like how to redirect to folders,
i tryed updating from fastboot with that PC10IMG.zip from a while back that has gingerbread on it , but it tells me Whoops: didnt find expected signature , and when i try to flash the system.img only it tells me FAILED <remote: data length to large> , so do i have to erase the system partition and then try to flash it ?

It sounds like you may be one of the unlucky people who has a phone with a bad eMMC. I strongly recommend before doing anything else you head over the To #G2ROOT IRC

i tryed to flash a different version of clockwork recovery by doing:
fastboot flash recovery \path\to\recovery.img
and it gives me:
writing recovery ...
FAILED <remote:image update error>

wait how can i get there ? can you please give me a link

so i've come to find out after doing the command:
cat /sys/devices/platform/msm_sdcc.2/mmc_host/mmc0/mmc0:0001/name
in command prompt (adb shell) , i found out i have the M4G2DE eMMC chip , which is the bad one and the good one is SEM04G

yeah I know i'm following the conversation with Ghul. Sucks that some phones have this problem. I'm waiting to receive a new DZ as an insurance replacement and I'm worried that I might be the next unlucky person to have the bad chip

even if this is unfixable thanks for the help , i thought i wasnt gonna get any replies

Happy to help, I'm just sorry I had to the bearer of bad news.
If your still under warranty you should be able to get a replacement. Rooted or not HTC are aware of this problem and you should be able to get a new one.
There is a thread here about the eMMC problem, might be worth asking people about how they went about getting a warranty replacement.

if HTC is aware of this problem i should still be able to get a new G2 , because i honestly have had this phone for more than 30 days and i dont have insurance , but if this is a phone problem then i should be able to still get another one , im just nervous that tmobile might not give me another phone due to root

Hi, I have very similar problem..
HTC Desire Z - fried emmc ('deferred resume failed' message appears..) chip (I have chip known as 'BAD'..). The brick occurred while my phone was s-off, rooted, with custom recovery and custom ROM.. Warranty is still not expired, however probably void due flashing.. I'm pretty sure it's not my fault but the bad chip..
Is there any way to clean up the S-OFF and custom recovery before I'll ask HTC for repair? I afraid they can repair it and ask me for pretty huge amount of money.. Thanks for any suggestions!
K

With a fried emmc, it's highly unlikely you'll be able to perform any operation onto the internal memory without fail. You can try to return it to stock like you normally would but will most likely just end in error.
A fried emmc is unusable as such operations onto it is undoable
Sent from my T-Mobile G2

remote: data length to large
I also used to get <remote: data length to large>, when I bricked my T-Mobile G2 and tried to flash through fastboot.I tried with dozens of PC101MG.zip files.. After hours of experiments I found that PC101MG.zip used for HTC Desire z is too big or whatever for T-Mobile G2, then I found one PC101MG.zip file which was around 100MB and that worked. You better try and find something like that...
Most threads explain about HTC Desire Z, but T-Mobile G2 is different.
Hope this helps

I have the same issue, have you fix it?

You should not get this error if you are truly on that version
Are you sure you are downloading this
http://www.shipped-roms.com/downloa...00.32U_5.09.05.30_2_release_143921_signed.exe
If it indeed gives you CID error than this wasn't your original firmware.
In that case make a goldcard and flash a generic WWE RUU or the Asian one again.
goldcard
I had exactly the same problem, but already rooted and had AmonRa recovery. My device is also a new PVT-4... luckily I had a goldcard, and did a nand backup.
I do not know of any solution, except Goldcard one, but hardly possible, since you cannot boot the device. if somehow you manage to get to your CID, look at this post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=7826990&postcount=8
Make sure u did everything right and it should work hope it helps
Dude, did you try booting the updated Alpharev CWM recovery through ADB ? Or if you can still enter fastboot, try unrevoked one more time, but this time with custom recovery (updated CWM). This should solve the MISC problem and allow you to flash custom ROMs.
Also, when in fastboot or recovery, did you try creating a goldcard, also through ADB?
If this doesn't help, i think it's time for warranty...
some one posted this solution will this work ?
got desprate while my friend Desire is semi bricked.
usb , wifi , ADB is not worked...constant reboot happened...
tried to flash almost RUU from http://www.shipped-roms.com/shipped/Bravo/ without success
i knew my success key to solve this problem is creating goldcard to flash the RUU
I cannot get CID for goldcard...because ADB, wifi and usb not worked..only fastboot is worked
I tried to create goldcard using nexus one and my sdcard...
1.format my nexus sdcard using fat32 partitiion.
2.generate the reserve CID with goldcard helper (you can download it from market)
3.i am follow guide from http://www.droid-den.com/android-gui...te-a-gold-card
from step 12 to step 19 (using SDcard adapter with my pc)
4.put that goldcarded sdcard to the semi bricked desire
5. flash RUU rom you want....(please also do some research before you do this)
Sucesss!!

You clearly don't know wat your doing, you already might have bricked it by flashing your asia rom with a wwe rom, you can't flash it if you don't have a goldcard.

It appears this is happening quite a bit lately. I too am plagued with this issue.
No help well can anyone answer this is it possible to unroot s-off the phone through clockworkrecovery mod so i can return for warrenty
Edit : Wondering what would happen if i did reset to factory in hboot would that make things even worse? i dont want to do it unless i get some information
hey man
don't worry so much your phone seems to be fine
just go and reflash your rom or flash a fresh rom
for example, go dl the stable version of CM and flash that instead~
hope this works
and btw when you flash a new rom, you want to wipe everything meaning wipe to factory settings
i have tried flashing a new rom to no avail it get stuck on htc boot screen i keep getting the cant mount cache error when doing things i think it might be the problem but thanks for the response
i was trying this method http://forum.cyanogenmod.com/topic/15623-how-to-fix-a-semi-bricked-g2/#entry175839

You have to hex edit... because the PC10IMG.zip is older and you would need a newer version. I used unforgivens way of s-off and I would always have to hex edit, so my phone won't be semi-brick when I flash the orginal PC10IMG. Anyways am to to sure how to use ADB...

[Q] (Q) Issues with flashing etc on Desire

Well, I have rooted my phone with unrevoked it installed the recovery mod 2.5.0.7 and I'm a bout to flash my phone. Thing is though I've been here for a while.
The story goes like this.. Relatively chronological..
I download HBOOT drivers install them on my Windows 7 64bit. I then download and run unrEVOked3, hook up my phone and choose charge only. unrevoked3 does it's thing and everything seems fine. I partition the SDcard with 6,5gb fat32 and 1gb ext4. Then i go into recovery i then go to wipe data/factory reset and chose it. Then i cant find dalvik data at first but i later find it, so i wipe that. Then I chose to install zip from sdcard which earlier moved. The InsertCoin A2SD+ 1.0.9 mod.
It starts up finds the file and starts flashing or so it seems.
It stops, and I cant remember the error message. So, I go searching cant really find anything except the fact that I should have wiped cache partitions also.. So I go back do a full wipe again and run it.
Then I get this error message: ( i tried again with a Cyanogen mod, and i got assert_failed write_raw_image...)
- assert failed: Package_extract_file("boot.img","/tmp/boot.img")
E: Error in /sdcard/InsertCoin_GB_Sense2.1_A2SD+_1.0.9.zip
(status 7)
Installation aborted..
I then find the baadnwz irc and ask for help there.. repartition my sdcard with gparted, and run through it all again...
Same error..
I then notice that CWMR is saying:
E: Cant fint MISC:
E: Cant mount Cache:recovery/command
E:Cant find misc:
E:Cant mount cache:recovery/log
E: cant fin misc:
I ask if this is normal, NO, is the clear answer i get.. so i test different things, new repartition correct sized and everything..
Still same..
Then I go and download the Froyo RUU and install it reset everything (of course i forgot to sync my contacts..) and i do everything from the top root, cwrm and try flashing but the same errors are still there..
So i then create this thread hoping that this error already isnt here after search.. And hoping someone can help me..?
I'm running the HTC Desire on HBOOT 0.93.0001, radio 5.11.05.27.
Worst thing is no matter how many times i wiped the different things no changes were made on the phone, when i rebooted i still got up my original bckgrnd image and everything...
So, what is going on?
It might be worth watching a few vids and reading a few guides. Here's a start http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1016084. Also, don't worry. I messed up too when I first started to root and flash.
I can't remember what the status 7 error is and how to fix it. Think it's just to re-download the rom and try again.
If you have PVT4 device, you need to use AmonRA recovery.
I guess you're S-ON? If S-OFF try recovery from my sig.
Ironically I have used the tutorial in the development forum.. Used all the videos i could find, except s-off cause i was told i didnt have to do that when i was just flashing a new ROM..
How do i know if i have a pvt4 device?
edit: i found out.. im a pvt4 device..
Then root again, download recovery from my sig unpack .img and choose "custom recovery" in unrevoked and select it.
You can also use AmonRA recovery.
Or if you don't want to root again, S-OFF and flash new recovery in fastboot.
I don't really understand why they made CWM default recovery in unrevoked, people have so many issues with it. :-(

Somehow, installing alpharev and s-offing the phone, and then installing a new recovery helped me. Im now running cyanogen 7 om my phone

Won't boot, can't mount sdcard

Hello,
First of all, I feel like an idiot right now, and I most probably am. I'm using a HTC One X from ROGERS. Here's the whole story:
1) I unlocked the bootloader succesfully
2) I rooted my phone via a superboot script or something like that
Note: At this point the phone was working perfectly and I stayed that way for 3-4 days.
3) I finally found a working CWM recovery image for the One X from Rogers
4) I flashed it and was able to enter CWM Recovery
5) Following the thread on Android Revolution that's around on these forum, I downloaded something called Super Wipe and the ROM itself
6) When trying to "install" Super Wipe from within CWM Recovery, it kept giving me an error with Status 0
7) Got tired trying stuff so I did Wiped data/cache/Delvin (however it is spelled) cache/battery stats/everything I could wipe
8) Tried again, still didn't work
9) This time -and here is where I think I massively screwed up- I decided I'd try the format options, so I formatted cache, data, sdcard and system.
10) At this point I noticed the phone wouldn't boot anymore, I'd just get the "This build is for development purposes blah blah blah" and it would loop on that forever
11) Going back into CWM recovery, I now noticed that the sdcard was unmounted, when I tried remounting it, it would give me an error message saying E:Can't mount \sdcard (or was it "Error mounting \sdcard"? Not so sure anymore)
12) Tried re-locking and re-unlocking the boot loader, didn't work
So now here I am, phone won't boot, will just loop, and I can't mount the (internal?) sdcard anymore, actually I never really noticed if it was mountable, but I assume it was since I recall being able to complete the wipe everything operation in CWM recovery.
Is there anything I can do? I've heard of a few options, namely installing the RUU or something like that and a software called Odin which after searching a bit I believe is only for Samsung devices. The thing with the RUU is that I have a Rogers handset, and I don't think the RUU for that one is available. Also, is there any way I can access the internal sdcard on my PC while the phone is in the bootloader or CWM recovery? Maybe I'd be able to do something that way...
Also, I bought with the 3-years contract from Future Shop 5 days ago, think I can just go back and say "Hey, the phone crapped up" and expect them to change it without inspecting it too much to notice the **Tampered** **Unlocked** tags in my bootloader?

DHD stuck on HTC logo. Bricked or not?

Ok, here is the problem:
I unlock bootloader over htcdev and flash latest CM7. Before unlocking bootloader, i din't have rooted DHD and i didn't S-OFF it...
Therefore, I just have unlocked bootlader.
After 7 days on CM7, DHD started sporadically to show FC on some applications, but I didn't pay attention on that, try to start app again and it's worked.
After few days, FC was a very frequent and become very, very frustrating...
I did full wipe, wipe cache and Dalvik cache and restore CM7. Result was better but can't say that I solve my problem. After one more day of usage I cant start any app on phone. Try to flash again Cm7 wasn't succesful. Recovery started to show messages:
Code:
E:Can't mount /cache/recovery/log
E:Can't open/cache/recovery/log
E:Can't mount /cache/recovery/last_log
E:Can't open/cache/recovery/last_log
I couldn't wipe cache, factory, dalvik, couldn't restore or flash new ROM. Nothing. It said that can't mount format /data, /cache, /system
I send it to service where I bought phone, but after 7 days they don't know what is problem. Unbelievable! They said that that will try to solve my problem in next 45 days because they have that clause in warranty What to do 45 days without phone?
I try everything what is common with my problem from XDA but without success The only thing which I didnt tried is that replace SD card with new one...
What you think, can SD card make phone to stuck on HTC logo
PS. I have M4G2DE eMMC chip
Bloody hell!

Ok, relax...with an unlocked bootloader (HTCDEV) you have to flash the rom in CWM and after you will have to flash the boot.img file inside that zip folder.
Find the boot.img file inside the rom folder and put it in somewhere u can find it in the PC.
Open a cmd as admin or terminal as root in the PC
Navigate to where the boot.img file is located
Type adb devices to check that u have connectivity (usb debugging and charge only have to be set)
If the above was succesfull, type: adb reboot-bootloader (it will boot in fastboot usb)
In cmd navigate to where the boot.img is located (it should read something like c:\users\your_user\desktop)
Type: fastboot flash boot boot.img
ENJOY
