I am rooted. And i dont think its a cell tower because I switched sims with my sister, I put my sim on her iPhone 3GS and put her sim in my HTC G2. I had signal on her phone but she didn't have signal on mine. Also I don't know where I can check my radio, is radio and baseband version the same? If it is well then its 12.28b.60.140eU_26.03.02.26_M

yea there the same ur radio is 26.03.02.26. i would check the stickies in the development section and change radios. but be read up on it and be careful. it could also be a bad sim card..so keep that in mind as well

Oh ok thanks alot. And I don't know if it worth mentioning but before it stopped working there was a thunderstorm, I don't know if thats worth mention. Also, it only recieves signal when I lay it on my bed with the charger plugged in.

not sure what that would mean...but i would bet my bottom dollar its a bad sim

reception problems

hi all
ive been having trouble with my desire for a while now. im getting very poor signal and not been able to send mms. i was with t mobile but didnt get anywhere with them so i left and signed up to vodafone who brag reaaly strong signal in my area. guess what.... worse then t mobile. i get 1-2 bars max and my 3g constantly drops off to nothing a lot. ive been to htc and vodaphone and still no real help. vodafone are sending me a new sim incase its a problem with mine. has anyone else got a poor signal in a good area? i tried the sim in a different phone and had the same bed reception so i thought it was vodafone but then tried my friends sim in my desire (orange). he had 4 bars in his but in my desire i only got 1-2 again. this would suggest a problem with both lol.
the strange thing about the 3g is everytime i switched it it droped down then off with in a few seconds but i used advanced task killer to kill all apps and my 3g came on straight away and didnt go again. could somthing be blocking it somehow maybe? my reception was still poor but atleast i could get some sort of internet.
im alos finding brown blotches on my battery cover. like the coating is rubbing off. again anyone else had this?
I get a rubbish signal, and have e-mailed HTC support to see about getting my phone replaced/repaired. I only get a 2g signal at work in central London, if I set the network to "WCDMA Only" it can't even detect the network, but when I put my SIM in my old phone (HTC HD) I get 5 bars of HSDPA and around 3mbps data so clearly the phone is the problem and not coverage.

I don't want to root it otherwise I'll end up wasting time flashing different ROMs every week. Besides, I don't see a new radio making a difference when it can't even detect the 3g network and the blackstone gets 5 bars H.
as above im not to keen on rooting too. not that i dont really want to more that i dont know enough to try it. ive read the walk throughs and it sounds easy ish but i dont want risk it. i did the who new rom thing with my hd2 and i was for every changing roms. what im trying to find out is where the problem lies, vodafone or the desire.

Drops calls all over the place

I'm having major issues with my GS2 when moving between cell sites. More often than it should it just drops the call, especially when going from WCDMA/4G to GSM/EDGE. It never hands off properly, and often times the phone will pick up a weak 4G signal, hold on to it for much longer than it should, drop all connectivity (with the circle and a slash showing up) before going back to GSM. Or it will do the same, starting off with a strong 4G signal, moving into an EDGE/GSM only area and never hand-off to the GSM cell site, what it will do is drop ALL network connectivity (circle with a slash!) then pick up the GSM network.
I know I'm not the only one with these issues. I love the phone otherwise, actual GSM reception is great - but it does NOT handle handoffs well, even when going from one 4G cell site to another. My Dell Venue Pro and other phone's don't have such a high tendency to drop calls. I'm actually about to get a BlackBerry 9900 because it has NO issues with these handovers, and seamlessly switches between WCDMA and GSM.
Try talking to T-Mobile.

Same problems.
I'm not so sure that it is depends only with operator.
I'm leaving in Europe, but have similare problems with scrambled voice during phone calls and drops calls.
Before I used Samsung Vibrants, Captivate and Infuse. All of them works in same locations without any problems and voice quality was amazing.
I tested two different unlocked Herculeses t989, with two differnt operators and all available radio' modems for AT&T/Rogers Skyrockets and T-Mobile/Telus T-989. Both t-989 have same issues with all modems and voice quality worst compare Infuse/Captivate/Vibrant.
Both t989 runs stock rooted roms
My operator data range:
GSM/GPRS/EDGE 900Mhz/1800Mhz
UMTS/WCDMA/HSPA+ 2100Mhz

A sim card is not going to help. You sound like a CSR. If you can find a pattern with location a service request will need to be done, which usually leads to a trouble ticket. (Both done through tmo )
Usually i would have you do a sim swap with another phone and see if the issue follows your sim or your phone. Easiest way to find the problem .

It's not the service it's my phone. It handles WCDMA-GSM hand-off's poorly and it camps on WCDMA for too long when the signal is took weak. We need a radio update. I have the latest sim card. It also drops calls going between cells sometimes and not just WCDMA to GSM which I find to also be as a result of the radio.
only few people seems to be having this problem, like the other guy on the Wind topic
personally i've not had any of the issues mentioned, and i'm still on the original Tmo radio
If you can settle for GSM or WCDMA alone, why not force your phone on those frequencies? That way you can at least eliminate the band switching variable

HTC One X - Terrible Terrible signal reception

I'm absolutely baffled that I'm the only one apparently suffering from this.
At first it was ok, now, no matter what ROM or base, the signal quality is terrible.
Where my HTC Sensation was getting full bars, or constant HSDPA (I rarely ever seen 3G), this One X is either getting 3G, G or E, which means no web pages will load or anything, very terrible.
It's making me consider "downgrading to upgrade", because the only time I can browse the net happily is either very close to Wi-Fi source, or where HSDPA is very strong, so I will just about get HSDPA then.
Other people must be suffering from this?????
The only plus with the One X is in my village I find it easier to get 1-2 bars and a bit of G.
Thanks.
Talk Mobile??? What's their coverage like?
Do you know what your Radio is? Try flashing a few different radio's to see if that helps?
Talk Mobile is on the Vodaphone network.
I've never attempted to flash a different radio, in fact I've never even seen a list of radios, as far as I knew they were included in the actual ROMs now.

Afaik some of the Devs have access to different radio's, Try asking Mike1986 from ARHD or Football to see if they can help you.
I'm sure that I've seen some threads about flashing different radios to fix signal problems before, I think to see Mike1986 posting about it when I used to frequent the HTC Sensation's Android Development threads.

It is probably a hardware fault with the phone. If your HTC Sensation is getting a good signal with the same SIM/network provider, and your HTC One X isn't, then I suspect a fault, perhaps internal antenna connection issues that have plagued Wi-Fi. Try gently squeezing the phone with your thumb over the home key and fingers underneath and see if reception improves.
There is also an internal cable that may not have been attached correctly in the phone to the antenna, either way it is back for a repair.
I can't see way a software would be to blame.

Phil

I'm using the micro SIM that was provided.
The signal reception bars are never really different, it's just the phones inability to hold a decent HSDPA connection, constantly flicking from 3G, G and E, so I'm loading a website on HSDPA, as soon as it flicks to 3G, loading stops because the connection is far too slow.
I do have the Wi-Fi issue, if the signal is not full on, so I'm a bit away from the router, the wireless is just cutting out all the time, was not like this with HTC Sensation.
I don't really know about getting it sent in for repair I won't have a phone then!
If you get 3G, then you get H, they are the same technology.
What you will find, however, is that the One X supports fast dormancy, so the data connection will sit on 3G until H is needed, then switch, then drop back to 3G when it's not.
you guys tried flashing different radios?
Is it fast dormancy causing the problems then? How can I disable it?
I can't flash different radios as it's very hard to find different radios for the One X
Apparently you have to to change the build.prop to disable it:
ro.ril.fast.dormancy.rule=0

The SIM card doesn't control reception, that is a myth. The SIM card is just like the chip in your credit card, it holds a number and some data to identify you to the mobile phone network.
The problems a self cut or old SIM my cause is that it doesn't connect very well to the phone, this means your phone thinks the SIM card has been removed and gives you "No Service" or Emergency only calls.
The only other time the SIM card may make you think it is affecting reception and giving you a lower signal is if you are roaming and it you don't have an up to date roaming list, usually though this is updated over the air anyway, a new SIM card may allow you to roam onto nearer cells so you see a better signal.
A bad SIM will not knock a couple of a bars off your reception, in the same way a bad credit card doesn't give you less credit limit.

Phil

try OpenSignalMaps from the market to see what's really going on (click on 'map' for example will show what cell you're connected to and signal strength etc)
I tried that OpenSignalMaps, I notice how my phone is connecting to some nearby towers, but I live near a place called Selby, and it's connecting to masts in Leeds????

AT&T Service Shutting off constantly, not sure how to fix it.

To keep things short, I'm a noob to most of the phone things. I have a HTC Google (T-mobile) G2 which is unlocked and has an AT&T Sim card. Right now it's running the Virtuous Quattro RC3 ROM. I did a full wipe of the phone and the ROM has been working great (despite the camera problems), but I noticed the phone would disconnect from the AT&T service every 10 mins or so. After using the phone all day I realized that everytime I unlock the phone, the phone disconnects from the service for about 1 min and then re-connects along with random times while I'm using the phone. I didn't have this problem with the last ROM (Virtuous Unity). But I know it's a problem with the phone because my house has perfect reception and I have never had a connection problem in the house. However, I do not know what could cause this problem and not sure if it is the Radio since I have read about alot of people talking about that. I have no idea what radio I'm using now and have no idea how to find it.
In addition, the phone cannot recognize my phone number in the settings and requires me to program the voicemail number (which of course I cannot figure out). Both of these were automatically recognized by my previous Virtuous Unity ROM.
Anyway, if someone could tell me what is causing this connection issue on my phone and how to fix it, I would be sooo grateful!
Please let me know if you need more information.

That seems to be the easiest solution, but I have been using this unlocked phone with AT&T service for a month now and can't change service providers at the moment. Since I know the phone can work with AT&T I would rather try to find a solution to this problem.

I just did and it works perfectly in an AT&T phone and an Unlocked Nokia phone.
Try a different ROM.
Thanks for the advice. I started downloading the Affinity ROM to fix the problem. Just really liked the interface for the Quattro, but the camera bugs are annoying anyway.
you do realize with a tmobile branded g2 you won't have the proper cellular bands for high speed data? also you will need to change the apn to get things working. but yes changing radios may solve the dropped service I just couldn't tell you what radio works best, maybe test a few out... but as always be extra careful when playing with firmware

I got this phone from a friend when I badly needed a phone, but now that I can invest in a new phone, would any non-AT&T phones allow me to have high speed data? I don't want to pay for the smartphone plans, so I need something that is unlocked to stay on the cheaper plan.
I have tried to do some research on radios before and was having a hard time, but I will look again since I like the Quattro ROM much more than any of the other ROMs I've tried.
some will work some won't, try a wesite called gsm arena, this will give you phone specific radio bands

Gnex GSM Out of Service

Im not sure if its what caused it but I dropped my GNEX yesterday. It wasnt from very high and ive dropped it before worse than that with no issues. I have have no network signal at all. I cant make calls or text and have no bars. In about phone it says Service State - Out of service. I put my sim in my old nexus one and it works fine. Ive flashed multiple roms, kernels Radios with same issue. Take battery out for a few min and powered back on. Still no service at all. Im guessing the radio is shot. Anyone have any suggestions? i Went ahead and ordered a nexus 4 but who knows when that will show up. its the GSM model on T-Mobile
