Hello everyone!
Before buying the GS II, I'd like to know whether anyone has used the Klipsch S4i with this Phone, and whether the impedance match/mismatch isn't a problem (i.e. do they sound great without any distortions or missed pitches?).
How about the buttons - what ones work? And the mic for calls?
Thanks!
Edit:
Okay, bought the S II, and as others have said, the S4i's Mic works during calls, the play/pause button works for Music, and the sound quality is awesome
Using the S4i and it works great. Only the answer call button works, everything else doesn't.

Thanks Vulpix!
When you say the answer call works, do you also mean that the mic works during calls? And can it be used to play/pause?
I have the X10i and it works nearly perfectly.
Works:
Sounds amazing - you can still pick out flaws in high-end MP3 or AAC recordings compared to lossless stuff.
Mic works for calls.
Mic button works to answer or drop calls.
Mic button works in music and other players (Amazon's, Samsung's, Google Listen) for 1 click pause, 2 click skip
Doesn't work:
Volume controls don't work.
Obviously, the S4i doesn't sound as good as the X10i, but since it's the same impedance and the same mic assembly, I think you'll get the same breakdown.

Hey big_adventure,
Yeah I suppose the S4i's might work along the same lines.
I'm least bothered about the Volume control. It's the other functions that you mentioned are working that I care about. Thanks!
Guys pls someone who has tested the Stock earphone with Klipsch S4i give their opinion?
I mean if you have to do a literal comparison then....
Is the volume level better than stock?
Is the Sound Quality better than the stock headphone?
Please guys, iam confused whether or not to buy Klipsch S4i as i have few options of headphone where i live. Thanks in advance.

Yes the sound quality is much better than that of the stock headphones. However, they don't work with the Galaxy S. You have to hold down the center button to get the good quality.
Could someone let me know if that happens with the S2?

Guys please ignore my signature as iam going to sell off my S1 and buy the S2.
Please guys anybody who has tried Klipsch S4i with S2 answer the above queries.
I have an ordinary S4 (non-i) and the sound quality is perfectly fine. Comared to my old Desire anyways, which also sounded really good.
Regarding volume control using different headsets with the SGS2 I've finally found a solution that works for me: Headset Droid It lets you assign different actions (including rising and lowering the phone's volume) to your headset's key/keys. I've tried it with the stock headset and works great! The link I include is for the 1 day trial version, if you try it and you like it's only 0,99€
Anyone tried to use KeyEventDisplay?
If the +- Buttons give results it's easy to get it working right.

Hi Enthrall,
I want to know if you have to compare klipsch s4i with the stock headphone, then....
Is klipsch S4i volume louder than the stock headphone.
Is klipsch S4i sound quality better than the stock headphone.
Please please reply this query. I want to know because there is limited options where i live and want to know whether it is really any improvement in buying them as i like my sound loud.
Thanks a ton.

I haven't unpacked the stock in-ears that came with the GS II I'll try them out today evening.
What you can be sure of, though, is the S4i's sound quality being far superior to that of the stock ones. Compared to the stock of my GS, these are indeed much better.

I know but the overall audio output quality of SGS2 is not so great, and for all my experience the big part of a great audio come from the audio processor, in these case a crappy one without voodoo support
So i don't know if it is the case to spend € 70,00 into a good pair of earphone, when they cant be so good due to the audio processor.
This are just my thought, that's why I'm waiting for a small comparison

I have to ask... why wouldn't they? It's a standard, after all.
Or do you have some other definition of "work"?
there's a ton of stuff out there that's better and cheaper than the iPhone buds. But I guess if you have nothing else to use...
i dont like htc issued headsets. theyre too long and too big for my ears. i never liked em.
I'm pretty sure they would, maybe not the volume buttons but the single press for pause double for skip and triple for previous has worked on a few blackberries I've had. So I don't see why not

If the OP was asking about the ones with the integrated volume controls... those are proprietary to Apple. There's no reason they would work on an Android phone.
I dont see why they wouldnt work, They do in my other android device. I personally like mine because I sleep streaming music and they are comfortable in my ear when I roll my head. (the mic works too)

I doubt the volume control on any of the headphones meant for an iPhone is gonna work on an Android device... But if you just want a good quality pair of headphones with great SQ and a mic, there's plenty of choices out there. I just bought the MEElectronics M9P straight from their site for $23 w/S&H (coupon code "SHIPPING_COUPON" knocked a few bucks off shipping). They should be a nice upgrade from my Sennheiser CX300 which are 4 years old and still kicking, but I wanted something w/a mic.
I've got a pair of JVC HA-FX34 which I use to exercise (less cord noise than the CX300) and by most accounts the MEElec's should be an upgrade over that as well... Just throwing it out there since I know they're fairly common headphones at retail, might be a point of reference. Head-Fi.org is a great resource for this kinda stuff. Other popular choices are the NuForce NE-7M, Maximo iP-HS5, Apple's own dual driver IEMs, etc. Most of those are $40-50 tho and the M9P seemed like a great value judging by the many comparisons between them and some of the pricier competition.
Newegg's selling the M9P as well btw, FWIW (as is Amazon).
Meelectronics makes some great stuff. I have their M6's, which are straight earbuds, fantastic SQ for the money spent. The M9s are supposed to be an amazing bang for the buck if you need a mic.
i saw these bad boys on sale earlier:
http://www.amazon.com/dp/B001DERZK0/
i think it's what i'm going to go with
I'm really hoping the mic works with the iPhone earbuds cause I know that they didnt work on the HTC Hero which was disappointing... it recognized it as a headset but no audio in worked.

im hoping it works. ordered a pair already.
I have a pair of V-Moda (Faze) earphones / mic and use them on my Hero (and Pre) all the time... I'd say u should be good to go with those. SN: They sound great, BTW (but one of my earphones stopped working :-( .. but I'm sending them in for a warranty replacement )
http://www.v-moda.com/headphones/faze.aspx
**The Play/Stop button works too BTW
From what I've experienced (on the Hero at least), is that the iPhone headphones work for your music and its recognized as a headset but the microphone is not functional. I guess the jack isnt touching the right connectors or something. From the display model of the EVO, it looks a little more promising... I hope they work. I have Shure headphones meant for the iPhone but I wanna use them on my EVO!
The apple earphones don't work on Nokias too. The mic ring is positioned differently compared to standrad earphones with mic.
Has anyone tried using the mic?
I looking to buy a quality headsets with microphone that will be compatible with my Galaxy S2.
I am thinking to buy the Zagg smurtbuds.
Do you know if they will work with the Galaxy S2? will the sound be good? the microphone will work? the controller will work with the Galaxy S2 player?
If this headsets are not compatible with the Galaxy S2, do you know about other alternatives?

Could you please elaborate. I'm pretty new to this so I apologize.
How would this work? Through bluetooth? RF signal?
Haven't bought any of the brands above so am not sure.
Also what kind of adapter with remote do I need to buy? (Name?)
Any links if possible would be great for both.
Thanks in advance!

Get a SonyEricsson MW600 bluetooth adaptor and plug any headphone you want in. It has Play, Pause, Back, Forward, Volume buttons and microphone. Problem solved.
Thanks for the quick response - will check them out. Which earphone would you say is the best on audio quality for listening to music (as well as using it for handsfree)?

The problem with Bluetooth remote's is that the audio stream get's compressed, so that kinda defeats the purpose of getting high end ear/headphones. As technology stands today, wired is the only way to go for achieving the best sound quality.
I suppose the real question is this:
For ear/headphone microphone sets that we know work with the SGS2 (such as the one that came in the box) which have four connectors, I suppose the next thing to try is to see whether or not ear/headphones designed for iPhones will work correctly. If iPhone designed headphones work properly (including all controls etc.) then this makes finding a decent pair of working earphones a HELL of a lot easier.
I think that the headsets that comes with the device are quality, dont you think so ?
yesterday i bought the "Bose MIE2" and they are just great.
link for the international site
there are not many controls. just one button that lets you pick up/hang up calls and play/pause/skip music. thats more than enough for me.
the sound is so great but the best thing is the design of the speakers itself.
there is something called "Stay here" attached to them, which makes it almost impossible for them to drop out of your ear.
this works so well that i am even considering to use them for sports too...
unfortunately they cost about 130€ which is a lot. but for me the quality makes it worth it!
So far i'm enjoying the phonak pfe122 on my S2. Sound level seems to have improved possibly due to better isolation and clarity is second to none
I haven't had the opportunity to try out as many earbuds as this guy but his opinion in iem/earbuds is very similar to mine
http://www.anythingbutipod.com/forum/showpost.php?p=128853&postcount=1
I've bought A-Jays Four and for the price range they just sound amazing. As for inline remote, only middle button works, but thats enough in my case.

I recommend atomic floyd, a great product and exemplary customer service.

The MIE2I's are excellent imho, but like most others the volume buttons don't work with the SGS2.
Headset button controller app is workable and for me worth the hassle to use these headphones.
Mic works well. No one has complained about the quality when I call them.
Totally agree with nimroth. Very few earphones will stay in my weird ears, but these are perfect.

i meant a wired adapter not a bluetooth one, bluetooth is not reccomended for high end headphones especially because flac and uncompressed formats are of a way to high bitrate to stream correctly
if i meant bluetooth i would've said so , i haven't tested any with my sgs as i dont have access to any atm but what i would do is find the cheapest possible headphones with remotes that work maybe even old htc ones or something laying around, then cut off the headphones above the mic/remote section and attach a 3.5mm jack so i can use my Q-jays
least that is my plan.
the loss of quality from the extension will be negligible and either way the sound out of any phone cannot compete with high end audio device anyway, so if you really care about audio quality start carrying a Cowon player.

just for you in case you didnt know: there are two different models:
- the "mie2" only have the mike and ONE button for pause/play/skip/accept or end call (those are the ones i have)
- the "mie2i" are the ones for the iphone and have more buttons (like volume and stuff)
just like MarkyH said the mike-quality is really good (maybe because it is quite next to your mouth), but the volume controls wont work with the sgs2 and most other phones because of a different framework.
i decided to buy the mie2 because i dont mind the missing volume controls or the "one track back" button...
Thank you Nimroth and Also thanks to MarkyH..
Good to know that the headset mie2i works well i.e compatible with SGS2 except for the volume controller.

I use custom ringtones from an app called zedge, they're really great. If you download a certain ringtone or message notifier it can be louder.
I'm missing calls like crazy because of the low speaker volume output. I can't hear the text or email notifications either.
I'm not sure why they used such a low volume speaker on this unit. That's one thing that Motorola has always gotten right... a very loud speaker.

It may well be possible via an update - my HTC desire HD was woefully low.. Very quite from the speaker.. After an update a few months ago I noticed a significant improvement!
Wow. I thought my GN was faulty. Setting such a low speaker volume is criminal
I can attest to he quality of the audio output on the device (via the headphone jack) to be pretty decent. On par with the 4S, if that says anything. They're powering my headphones well enough.
The speakerphone? Yeah, there's no denying that it isn't top-notch.

Actually my loudspeaker is par. Doesn't compete with matrix loudness though. It is very clear though and no bass. My earpiece is very clear too. It could definitely use a little boost though. Earphones with mics is very loud and clear. Same for Bluetooth.

Really? I was curious about this as well. I compared my Galaxy Nexus and iPhone 4S just now with the bundled headphones. My 4S feels much louder and had more base. The Nexus sounded low and didn't have "thump". There's always a slight hiss in the background too.
I can barely here anything from the external speaker.. The system volume like locking he screen or tapping on icons.. Can't hear them on full voulme also! its so faintt..

Anything else similar to the Sony one?
If I'm reading an ebook in with my Kobo app, the remote's button's don't "work", also it always says "Unknown" for song info. If I lock my phone they work fine.
On CM9 RC1.
iphone
I used the headset came with the iphone, but mic doesn't work, does anyone have the same problem?
I'm using a set of etymotic headphones designed for iphones and my mic doesn't work either. I think there is a small converter you can plug in between the phone and the headset that should make it work, but I don't need to use the mic and haven't really looked into it.

I haven't been able to play with many headsets, however I tried the ones fromGalaxy S2 on HTC Desire and Evo 3d, and only volume rocker worked. No other buttons Both phones are running custom roms, might that be the case?

Same problem. It seems that headphones with the 3 button apple control do not work (mic + buttons except for the center button sometimes) and they don't even allow the phone's microphone to work while plugged in. I have used apple headphones and klipsch image s4i's.
The center button works fine for me. It's the only one that does. Using CM9, not sure if that makes any difference.
I use Klipsch Image S4A
best headphone for me so far
klipsch s4a
I had the intention of picking up the klipsch s4i when i was in bestbuy. The one i never go to happened to have the s4a which i did not know about. I've only had them a few hours but the main issue is finding a working remote, install the klipsch app and you can customize what the buttons do! Amazing headphones once again from klipsch, worth every bit of $45 premium sound and a android compatible remote with mic. I highly recommend them.
List for Samsung htc sony (not sony erricson) and Nokia lumia headset and headphones that work all three buttons & mic
- urbeats
- htc beats solo
- Sony smart headset
- Nocs NS200H-001
Nokia purity
Update as I found some more[/QUOTE]

What is the audio quality like through the headphone jack?
A good pair of headphones & Flac with both built in music player & Poweramp?
Is it as good as both the S5 & the M8 or is it better?
Ta
I think the quality is good. However some handsets have a problem with internal noise, i also had this issue but it kinda fixed itself after the first few days.

What do you mean by internal noise? Buzzing from headphone jack?

i use poweramp and Westone UM3x in-ears or Beyer Dynamic Custom Pro, and for sure no worse than S4 and M7 which i pre-owned, and similar to directly from my Macbook Pro, too. so i personally am very pleased with the sound...:good: and no hissing or other issues here ...

Yeah something like that. But i just read people having this issue made it go away by changing from dalvik to ART in settings. When i think about it (i also changed to ART) that was when my issue also was gone. So yeah apparently a software issue.

Fantastic. Looking forward to trying mine out.
Do you use stock or a 3rd party music player?
GSM arena ran a bunch of tests and basically found that the G3 has the highest output quality of any Android device, up against the S5, M8, Find7, and Z2. It's not the loudest, but there will be mods for that.

I changed from dalvik to art. But the noise remains in the left ear plug after reboot (checked and art is still selected). Any ideas?

Yeah I did read that, but it's always nice to hear from users first hand. :good:

Crap! I just tested again and now i also have a silent buzz when i play music. This is really not right. Also i have this beep-beep sound the moment i plug in my headphones.
Is this buzzing present when playing through Bluetooth headphones?

I can tell you that it's the best mobile I've heard. I play Spotify @320 through Shure SE846's and sure it's not the absolute top notch but it's REALLY good. Like, I don't feel the need for an external Amp/DAC.

with poweramp and withour direct volume control, without any egalzer..nothing, the sound is simply amazing.
The M8, G3, Note 3, and S5 all had pretty good sound quality with headphones imo. I really couldn't say which is the best. They all sounded pretty good and comparable to each other. I still use my ear buds from the HTC Rezound. I don't care what anyone says but those were some good headphones for a free pair.

Maybe it's just me but I find the volume to be on the low side (using Google Play Music All Access) and the sound doesn't sound warm like it did on my SGS3

Check out the mod in the developer section. You can make it plenty loud very easily (with root).

That would be EXACTLY why you can't tell any of them apart, LOL. It's like saying Blu-Ray and DVD look the exact same when you're watching them on your 13" CRT TV.
And no... the stock buds that come with a phone aren't good. They're terrible. Quite literally the only good things you can say is that they put sound in your ear and it's possible to buy worse ones at a 7/11.
Stock earphones from the HTC M7 and M8 are great for free headphones quite loud and good sound.
I have a pair of JVC extreme in earphones that I bought for £15 quid and they are loud, also have a pair of Dre Beat's Solo's and they sound good.
I'd say the stock volume for the rear facing speaker is very loud for a back firing speaker I was quite shocked at just how loud it was.
Headphone volume was on the low side though.
I used a guide in the dev thread to boost the auido volume of both speaker and headset and then used Viper4Android and WOW oh WOW.
Best sound I've had out of a phone.
I've owned alot aswell. Coming from the Nexus 5 the sound of the G3 blows it away.
I would 100% suggest rooting. Increasing the values as per the guide and getting Viper4Android installed
