I can not believe what's happening with my new cable MHL! I have a TV with DVI input, but I've never had any problem because with a simple HDMI-DVI adapter I could always play HD video on my TV and, from the headphone, I have the audio connected to a "AUX input" of a stereo. It always worked with my laptop and my hard drive media!!
The problem is that the galaxy s2 headset turns off the sound when you plug the MHL cable. I can not hear anything on my TV!
I do not know what to do, I think has no solution. I even connected the mobile audio to my notebook's bluetooth, but when I connect the mhl cable no sound is heard again!!
Does anyone have any solution? Is there any menu to force the sound through headphones?
thanks
I think I have a solution. I Expose it to help someone having the same problem:
1 .- Buy a HDMI male to 5 RCA RGB audio video av component cable
2.- Buy a DVI-I 24+5 Male to 3 RCA RGB Female Converter Adapter
Now you have the video and audio separately using an HDMI cable
3.- Connect the RGB cable to the DVI and audio cables to your stereo
*I can not put pictures of the cables because I am a new user and the system will not let me, sorry.

Sorry, HDMI doesn't carry analog audio signals. So you are out of luck with this RCA solution.
You need to a) change your TV model, or b) use a cheap AV receiver in between the GS2 and the TV set.
Think it's impossible to work? What bad news!! I don't understand why someone sells a cable that doesn't work!
What a fool I was to believe the technical characteristics of amazon:
Gold plated HDMI to 5 RCA component video audio AV cable.
Provides high resolution up to 1080p.
High definition sound and clear image transfers.
* if you write 'HDMI Male to 5 RCA RGB Audio Video AV Component Cable' in google, is one of the first result (amazon)
Does not matter, I've only lost 6 euros (ebay).
Thanks
Anyway I don't understand why we talk about converting the image and sound in analog. There are manuals about how to open an HDMI cable and also has the red, green and blue wires inside. Just for separate cables lost the concept of "digital? Not understand...
My TV has DVI input, which is also digital. As I said before, I have an HDMI female to DVI male that works perfectly on my TV when connect my laptop and my multimedia hard drive. If I could break the adapter, it would have too a derivation of wires a pin to another, right? And it works in high definition
All I wanted to do with this cable was to extract the sound from an HDMI cable because the Galaxy S2 lost the sound of the headphone and I can not connect to the AUX input of my amp.
The HDMI digital audio signal is transmitted as a single aggregated digital stream that contains a variable number of digital channels (from 2 to 7.1 and even more).
Also in the pre-HDMI days the DVD's SD multichannel digital audio stream was transferred using a single coaxial cable (electrical) or a single optical cable, hence no separated cables for every channel.
Therefore digital channels have to be previously decoded and separated, and then converted by DACs to discrete analog signals.
No hope then to directly get from HDMI a couple of stereo analog signals to feed your stereo amplifier, you should have read all the negative user reviews of that cable on Amazon UK.
My suggestion: buy a cheap (or used) AV receiver with HDMI inputs/outputs and then connect its analog stereo monitor output to the TV auxiliary audio input (red/white RCAs or 3.5mm connector), or just use a couple of speakers connected to the AV receiver.
I was really hoping to use this phone with any normal DVI monitor and use headphones connected to the phones headphone jack. I guess this destroys that idea.
Why is it that everytime something like MHL comes along they implement it with absolutely no foresight as to how it might be used?
I think that MHL is just similar to HDMI in that respect.
So you wouldn't get analog audio output from the GS2 even if it had an HDMI instead of an MHL.
Today the manufacturers of latest cell phones expect connections only with TV sets equipped with complete digital ports (generally HDMI), not considering their products to be used with computer monitors.
BTW, DVI video-only port today is considered not suitable for full-HD audio-video material, and probably couldn't even fully support 1080p/24fps video signals.
DVI monitors support 60hz 1080p okay. Whether or not they cans support 1080p/30 or 1080p/24 purely depends on the monitor's firmware. Most monitors woudn't support 24hz but some probably support 30hz, which I think the GSII uses.
Also I didn't know HDMI out on phones did the same thing. Thanks for telling me that.
I guess it's the matter of audio routing!
Maybe someday someone could mod the kernel to handle these types of situations ;-)
Fingers crossed!
I found this app "SoundAbout" witch let you change the output
it works perfectly for me, sound on the smartphone and video on the monitor (tested on galaxy s3)

Thank you Coincoin0017. But the problem resolved itself when I installed android 4.0.4. Now the headphone output works when I plug the MHL adapter

now days they only cater for the mainstream market.
the assumption was probably everyone will only use it on a hdtv that has its own speakers.
I agree its a sad state of affairs but thats how it is I guess, I am currently trying to get sound as I am using a hdmi monitor which has no speakers.

Excellent. ... (hopefully still works on 4.3) I have the same problem with my PWD8 which is a panel so doesn't have speakers.
Is it possible to take a cable from the phones (Note 2) 3.5mm jack and put it into an AV receiver so that it uses the speakers attached to it?
Or even bluetooth sound to a separate speaker from the phone?
Sound about app useful for allowing sound to get to av receiver via rca cable
I'm looking for a sub $500 bluetooth deck to use with my Android phone and music stored on a USB stick. I never use CD's or DVD's or anything else anymore.
The deck MUST have front AND rear ports for USB AND an Aux on front/rear.
Why? Because I plug my USB sticks into the front USB port. And my friend's phone into front AUX.
And my Android's car phone dock would be permanently mounted to the rear mounted USB and AUX ports, for a clean look.
I'm having a heck of a time finding anything like this over at Crutchfield.
Would you consider front USB + front 3.5 Aux + bluetooth?
I have a Dual XHD7714 that I'm very happy with, though I have yet to try the 3.5 or USB inputs. The display is nothing fancy, but everything on it works great and it has features that some better brands are sorely lacking, such as volume offsets for each input.
Just use a usb hub. Get a powered one, or the head unit won't be able to power all the devices. I use this in my Z and have 2 ports in the console, and 2 more on dash.
This way you don't have to find a unit with multiple usb ports with all the other features.
Interesting idea, though I have to wonder if such a configuration is supported on most head units, and how hard it is to find a 12v converter for a powered hub?

Hello,
As I've read most of the brands of decks for car stereo doesn's support Hubs.
You have to look one with 1A output and minimum 2 USB ports. Most of them has one in the rear (where you can connect the cable to the S3 and on in the front (where you can fit the original bluetooth dongle - assuming that you will by one - or a usb pen.
I'm stuck to the limitations of most decks that can't handle too many files in a USB pen.
I'm looking for this one:

Best regards.
Bluetooth audio quality sucks compared to 3.5mm audio.
There are lots of options to choose from.
This is what I want though. I appreciate the help guys.
USB hub won't work because then you don't get the option to choose which USB port to use.
Six to choose from at Crutchfield:

Thanks, but none of those have the rear AUX [or] Line-In that I'm requesting.
You guys are doing good with the suggestions though. We're close, but so far have not popped up with the "perfect" Android car stereo yet.
With the full mirroring hack recently achieved for android on the appradio 2 no idea why anyone would want any other car stereo.
Ah, missed the requirement for both front and rear AUX input.
Look at the Details tab on the JVC R720. There is an available add on for a 2nd AUX input. But if you absolutely need bluetooth, the module uses up one of the USB ports.

Hi,
I have a Note 8 on 4.1.2 with Samsung Smart Dock, There are a few questions i would like to ask if anyone has experience of this combination.
1: Screen output to TV, its seems its outputting 1280x800 therefore i get a little chopped off at the top and black bars down the sides in landscape, Nearly full screen but not quite. Videos will play full screen though, just games and android desktop/apps seem to have this chopping off effect. Is this normal ?
TV's i have tried are all 1080p and 720p and a 2560x1600 Dell monitor.
2: Anyway to make 4.2.2 work with Dock ? it only charges
3: Extension cable - I have purchased a 20cm 11pin female to male cable so i can sit the Note outside the dock in landscape. Nothing is recognised using this. I know there is an app to force rotation but i feel safer placing it in landscape with a Moko case.
Would i be right in assuming the Dock is 11pin connector ? and the note 8 11pin also ?.
4: Anyway of editing the default keyboard layout without rooting ? MelE F10Pro needs a few default keys changing.
Advanced apology if this should be posted in Accessories sub
Thanks in advance

I don't know about the Smart Dock, but I do have the MHL to HDMI adapter.
Your monitor or TV must have the ability to do a smart sync or have options to allow for vertical and horizontal size adjustment.
As for the wired HDMI, you will need to plug in the Samsung charger into the dock (it should have a USB connection), and use a good quality 6ft / 1.6m HDMI cable.
My Samsung TV has a hidden HDMI feature for PC input. You must use the HDMI source that has a PC DB15 input associated with it. In my case HDMI 3 input, and go into the menu for input label and change it to PC. Once that is done, you will have the ability to adjust the TV and should note that the image may have a blank unused area for a boarder (picture frame) around the image.
The maximum resolution is 1280x800 but the kicker is the app and the resolution of the tablet itself. All 1080i will be converted to 1280x800 maximum. I got tired of cabling, and ended up getting a mid priced HDMI dongle which allows miracast. They are both compatible for picture image. Just there is a distance and bandwidth limitation with wireless, so you must have a good signal and proper connection speeds to maintain high bandwidth to the dongle.
I received this item in exchange for a fair and unbiased review.
Upon receipt I unpackaged the cable. Pretty basic packaging, nothing fancy just a plastic baggy indicating what was in it.
The link below to a shared Google Photos folder has all the photos I took while unpackaging.
https://goo.gl/photos/ryfL9euY28BHwviF6
The cable is wrapped in a mesh shielding that prevents snagging and pinching of the cable. In my household the blue accents on the cable go nicely with everything my A/V setup in the livingroom.
The connectors are touted to be 24k gold plated – I am no jeweler so I can’t verify this, so lets see if it can handle 4K !
My previous HDMI cable was unable to be used at 4k resolutions, the best I could get was 1080p/1080i, so changing the resolution was the big test.
I used the cable to connect my HTPC (Home Theater PC) to my Vizio 4k TV – I had no problems getting full 4k resolution out of it! I watched some 4k videos off of YouTube, and then played some video off of the PC via KODI (aka XBMC) – WOW – what a big difference over the 1080p I was used to! Everything was so real looking it was like looking out of a window into another world! Seriously, it looked like those TVs you see as demos at your local big-box retail stores!
It’s available on Amazon – here’s the link! Current pricing at the time of me writing this is $10.99 – less than most of the cheap HDMI cables you find at your local stores, with all the benefits of the high-dollar cables!

Hello everyone,
I watch movies in the bark yard on the big 120 inch screen using my Note 20 Ultra 5G phone connected to a Optoma HD143X Projector using the USB C to HDMI Cable.
The colors tend to come in overly saturated, the darks are dominates on the projector screen.
This is not an issue when I am viewing DVDs or Blue-ray off the Sony UBP-X700
When I look at the Phone screen, the images are sharp & clear, perfect DVD / Blu-ray quality.
Why do you suppose that there is a difference in image quality with viewing movies with the USB C to HDMI Cable ?
Has anyone else had this type of issue & if so, what is the workaround?
Video enhancer was enabled, but that probably only works on the phone screen, not the TV or Projector's screen

Try turning off video enhancer under settings --> advanced features
Thanks digitaljeff, I will give it a shot next movie night & will chime in once this has been achieved and give you some feedback!
If you need a work around, use a device that accepts dlna protocol and send it wiressly from phone. Best quality
