I work in a semi-secure environment without wifi and there is no cell signal. I'd love to be able to reverse tether via usb somehow to windows.
I noticed in this thread someone successfully did it via linux:

(with a motorola defy a few posts down)
What are the chances of accomplishing this under Windows?

Hello,
I have an Evo that is running the stock ROM; it charges through the micro-usb, but the device is not recognized on Mac/Linux(Ubuntu 10.04) and Windows 7 operating systems.
I have tried using OEM Blackberry, Nokia, Samsung and HTC cables, but the results are the same. I do not have warranty on this device, so I cannot exchange it.
I am pretty much ok with the way it is working; but I want to remove all the bloatware, for which I need root access.
I want to know if there is a way to root the device without having access to the data connection through USB?
Thanks in advance
nope, usb is required connection for rooting, sorry man
Thank you!
Is the rooting process dependent on the usb connection for adb access to the device? If that is the case, can I activate adb over wi-fi without root?
I tried it, but it was not connecting (none of the adb commands like "start adbd" worked). I am able to pair my MBP with the device through bluetooth. Is it possible to use that? I remember ActiveSync working for WinMo through bluetooth.
I am just throwing up ideas that someone may latch on. Thanks for your attention and help.

adb can be pushed over wireless but once in recovery adb over wifi is gone
Hello there
I'm having issues using my desire as a modem...
Either usb connection of wifi-spot won't work.
When i connect in usb, my computer doesn't want to connect, and if i use the wifi access spot, then i see the network, i can connect on it but then no surf is possible.
I use Ubuntu on my computer
If anyone has some ideas i'll take them
Thanks
Jean bono
If I am not wrong, you need HTC sync intalled on your computer. I don't know if it has Ubuntu version from HTC as I'm using Windows.
Hi
I am trying to get ethernet access on the N7 LTE using a USB OTG cable and USB-Ethernet adapter. Has anyone had success with patching the stock images, or is there a development ROM that has this available.
Thanks
Alex
Yes. Take a look here. http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=58868
There's a lot to go through, but the condensed version is that a fellow made a new boot image that supports Ethernet connections via USB OTG. Your bootloader must be unlocked in order to flash the boot image.
Thanks, but it is still not working.
I have downloaded the N7 LTE patched boot image from the thread and flashed it. My N7 boots successfully but using the OTG cable + USB ethernet adapter the ethernet is not recognised (I am using a USB 2.0 ethernet adapter from the company 'Plugable')
I have also tried to extract, edit and repack an official rom, but I get an error during the repack stage. I am trying to use Android kitchen and cygwin.
So I am stuck. Help!
Update.
Using the patched boot image, then rooting, and then issuing the command 'dhcpcd eth0' in terminal I can browse the internet in Chrome. However GMail and Play store don't work connect correctly
Everything seems to work now except Youtube app.
Frustrating thing is that I have to connect to a wifi source, disconnect, and then ethernet works (I am not using a sim). If I dont connect first to wifi, the apps dont see the connection!
I went to use the Microsoft Remote Desktop app over ethernet and the device does not see a network! Would have thrown the device in the garbage disposal shute (if I had one).
Finally there is a solution to get ethernet working on the Nexus 7 2013 LTE with all apps without connecting to Wifi first and praying to the heavens. I found that installing the latest stable Cyanogen Rom works, so I can now use this needlessly hampered device for what I purchased it for.
Hope this saves someone some valuable time, unnecessarily wasted by ? at Goggle for reasons unfathomable.
Is it possible to create WIFI hotspot while I am connected to WIFI on my g3 ?
I am rooted on kitkat stock rom.
Yet to flash TWRP on my D855 G3 !
Here's the homemade solution I used to get these results. You will need PDAnet for PC and on your phone. You will connect your phone to the WiFi, turn on thr PDAnet app and then connect it to your computer via USB. On the desktop app now, connect to your phone via USB, and when everything is set up, right click the PDAnet icon on your taskbar and you'll see something that says hotspot. I don't quite remember but you can use that to make a hotspot off the WiFi connection on your phone. This is just a basic run through on how I make this work and I can be more into depth if you need me. Good luck.
I am using a nexus 5x and own an asus stick computer running windows 10. I have searched and found some apps such as "unified remote" but these apps require the pc to be already running after passing the password screen, so I can't use the phone to type the password via bluetooth or wifi. As the stick pc is intended to be portable, I am not quite comfortable to remove password protection and bring it out of home or office. The other option of connecting the phone to pc via usb (such as the app "usb keyboard") requires root and custom kernel, but I wish to use android pay and root or any modification to the system is prohibited.
Are there any apps which I can use to connect the phone and pc to let me type the password, via bluetooth or wifi or usb, or any workaround for my situation?
Thanks for help
thank you
