3) while using RSD lite v5.3.1 in the last step, after rebooting the device, after the Motorola logo, an ANDROID logo appeares.
4) this ANDROID logo dosent freeze, but it dont goes away
no button is working - tried to remove battery but same happens again.

remove your accu.
push power + vol down and replace the accu
the android should shown.
now push vol down + vol up.
now use the vol down to chose wipe/ factory reset.
now chose yes.
now reboot your phone and wait around 5-10 minutes.

I have bricked my Motorola Defy.
I have tried flashing a new ROM using RSD Lite (following this guide). It says 'complete' but my phone will not turn on. Sometimes it will just show the Moto boot logo but never fully boot up. I can only open the boot menu.
The ROMs I have tried flashing can be found here (All UK 2.1 at the top of the page).
Background - I got into this mess by attempting to flash the Gingerbread UI ROM (here).
Does anyone have any ideas? I would really appreciated any suggestions.
Thank you.
Probably you have flashed a firmware which cannot be downgraded to eclair. Try to get again in the bootloader and flash a froyo build (the official french one, for instance).
Hope this helps

but supposedly it is still an éclair ROM so it shouldn't be the reason... best thing would be to flash an original 2.1 rom, I'm sure you can find one on the development section. Make sure to have a fully charged battery though - charge it on someone else's phone, for example.
It's most likely a problem with cache. Power your phone with Volume Down holded, when in recovery press Volume Up + Down, clear data/factory reset, clear cache.

Hi, thanks for the reply.
I have tried using the UK ROMs here: h**p:// and-developers. com/sbf:defy but none have worked. Any other suggestions?
Thank you.

Hey.
I have just tried this using the Australian version from here:h**p://and-developers.com/sbf%3adefy
Unfortunately, it did not work. I still cannot boot the phone.
Thanks for your advice, do you have any other ideas?
Have you tried one of the 2.51 version roms?
like JRDNEM_U3_2.51.1 Blur or
JRDNEM_U3_2.51.0 deblur.

Hi, yes I have tried the UK JRDNEM_U3_2.51.1 from here. Is that the same as blur or deblur?
Thanks.
Just an update...
All ROMS I have tried have installed OK through RSD Lite. The result is always 'Finished' or 'PASS'. But then when I try to turn my phone on, it never boots up.
I really appreciate the replies so far. If anyone has any further ideas, I would love to hear them.
Thank you.
UPDATE
I have just flashed the latest froyo leaked ROM as suggested around the net. Slight progress, the phone now boots to the moto boot logo but no further?
Does anyone have any ideas from here?
Thank you.
you do know that after flashing an sbf it takes a very LONG time to boot the first time! I just hope you are not giving up after a a couple minutes of M logo and pulling the battery or something it literally takes like 5 minutes.
You said you are still able to enter bootmenu? That is not possible after flashing an sbf, as it wipes the bootmenu away! Are you talking about bootloader?
Pull the battery and immediately put it back in while holding vol down. If the phone does not turn on just by inserting the battery then continue to hold vol down and press the power button for about 3 seconds, do not let go of vol down. Continue holding vol down until stock recovery appears.
Once you're in stock recovery press vol up AND vol down at the SAME TIME. Now use the volume toggle to select wipe date/factory reset, use the power button to make your selection, then wipe cache partition. Reboot
Walk away for like 5-10 minutes and check back on it.. Theres no reason it shouldn't work

Hey,
I have just got back from dropping of the phone with T-Mobile - Damm!!!!!!!
Thanks for the detailed explanation. I must have talking about the bootloader. Not the menu. I will head back to the shop in the morning and collect it back off them. Hopefully as it is a Saturday they have not sent it off?
Sooooo frustrating!!!!!!!!
I will update you when I have got it back and tested the above.
Thanks again,
Chris.
LOL I know what you mean... I had instant heart failure the first time I was stuck in a bootloop!!! Thought I wasted $400
I just panicked and gave up.. damm! Loads of people have said that its almost impossible to brick a defy. Fingers crosses thats true!! Lol
First, sorry for my english.
I have a similar problem. I flashed the official french froyo.
First it runs good. But today, two days later, the defy reseted automaticaly.
Several times.
Then I did a wipe. At the end the defy reseted automaticaly and stopped at the motorola logo. I flashed again. At the end of the flash, when RSD boots the defy, it stopped at the logo again. After...it must have been 15 minutes I pulled the battery and tried to get into the bootloader for a wipe.
But I can't enter the bootloader (vol up + power). The motorola logo appears and nothing happens. The last time I waited over 30 minutes.
OK, I have my phone back from T-Mobile...here it goes!!! (fingers crossed).
EDIT
Battery is out - will re-charge with the USB cable trick..

Hey, I am still have issues...
I have charged it up but cannot access recovery. I have tried taking out the battery and putting it back in while holding vol down but no luck. I have also tried holding the power button as well like you said.
I am going to leave it charging even longer to see if that helps.
Hi, i messed up my phone in a really stupid way
So, until a few days ago i had a froyo installed on my phone ( + 3.4.2_155-002_DEBLUR_SIGN ROM) but then i decided to give a try to CyaongenMod Beta 5.1.
I followed this very well detailed installation guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1054447 and got my CM7 working, but after a day i became unhappy with the CM7, the camera didnt work properly and there were many other issues.
What I did next, I turned my phone off, went into stock android recovery and did a full factory reset and cache wipe. I rebooted the phone and hoped that i would be able to load a normal android system, but the only thing that is happening is a motorola logo being displayed.
I tried connecting my phone via USB to flash an old ROM (3.4.2_155) but the phone is not appearing in the RSD Lite - i think it has to be completely turned on in order to appear there, isnt is true?
What shall i do to be able to turn my phone on properly, and is it possible to flash another working rom via RSD lite without having my phone turned on?
i tried to factory reset + wipe with stock and custom recovery, still no luck, phone freezes at motorola logo during start up.
i dunno why it still doesnt show up in RSD lite, any tips on how and when should i try connecting it via USB cable?
EDIT I forgot that for a phone to appear in RSD Lite without being switched on it has to be in a bootloader mode!! (which is entered by holding a volume up button during strart up, just like volume down button for recovery! i know, im stupid, i don't know how i could forget about this)
So, i entered the bootloader menu and managed to have my phone seen by RSD Lite, next I flashed a new SBF and I was getting a bootloop, and fixed it by a data wipe in stock recovery!)
Try to take out battery after few minutes put it back. Pull in usb cable. Then try to push the right buttons.
SOLUTION
First get your phone in bootloader mode by pressing VOLUME UP first and then POWER button till you get that logo.......Then flash it with rsd lite..,,,

Hi. Well, I've used CM7 and I liked it a lot. But the speaker is broken now, and now I have to bring it to RMA. I was using my default 2.2.1 sbf (Personal AR 2.2.1) with CM7, so, I just tryied to flash it again. Ok, the RSD stays in "Please power the phone manually", but the phone keeps restarting the boot animation (the blur one, not the M).
So, I've tryied with SBF 3.4.2-177-005 NORDIC (the one used in CM7), and now Im going to try with JRDNEM_U3_3.4.2_179-002.
But it's strange to me, because, I've used the NORDIC one previously to test CM7. (after all, CM7 worked flawesly in the Personal 2.2.1, so I switched back to that).
So, what can I do?
RSD keeps recognizing it ok, and I can access to the stock android recovery (not the clockwork).
Before flashing via rsd lite, turn on your device into recovery mode.
Shutdown it, by pulling out battery, press volume down and power button ( keep pressing volume down ). Wait some seconds and you'll enter into recovery.
Then, press both volume buttons and wipe data/factory reset.
Flash again your sbf!
Yes, thanks! I totally forget that. Now I just need to wait the RMA.

in the future... please read all the tutorials and be prepared for anything you are going to do on your phone.
1. Turn off your phone
2. Go to recovery (hold Power + Vol-)
3. When the android triangle shows up pres Vol+ and Vol- buttons at the same time
4. Wipe data
5. Wipe cache
6. Reboot your phone and go to bootloader (Power + Vol+)
7. Flash your SBF via RSDlite
That`s the whole procedure how to downgrade to Froyo. I think that you forgot to do some of these steps but in my opinion go again from the beginning.
EDIT: Seems I`m 2 min`s too late
yeah thats all rite , but now what should i do ? i flashed it 2-3 times. but i ain't getting any kind of recovery . its just struck on boot screen. tell me how would i wipe cache when there is now recovery coming out.?
First of all, my mother language isnt english, so it isnt very well, plz tell me simply, thz.

I've rooted and used my DEFY for several months. But today, the home button was blown suddenly, so I tried to flash the spf to solve it. I Fellow the step on the forum, 1. Open RSD Lite: Click on [ … ] Button and select your .SBF; 2. Boot your phone into Bootloader Mode; 3. Connect your Defy to your PC; 4. The START button on RSD Lite should be available now, click and wait...............................................................wait for long long time(more than 20 mins) , and, nothing happened, the screen just displayed "Android". Then, I clicked the "close" button on the RSD Lite....= =
And now, I dont think my DEFY finished the flashing, it just always displayed "Android" and nothing happen...
Can I solve it? how can I solve it?
