[q] ear piece issue on defy! Help - Defy General

Hi,
My defy developed cracky sound while on the calls. I have read about it online. I have to give to Motorola but the problem is I'm on CM7 RC1. I have flashed full sbf. I want to go back to official froyo for India. Is it possible to flash official Froyo 2.2 sbf or will I brick my phone. Please help.
P.S I have flashed full sbf not the nandroid back up!

Ear piece
it will work after 2 hrs if u had immersed it in water and as for full sbf i think u cannot downgrade ..i'm looking for similar ans
all d bst

If you have only flashed a Froyo SBF, going back to stock shouldn't be a problem.
Back up all necessary bits from your CM install.
Reboot into stock recovery (hold volume down on boot) and wipe data and cache.
Reboot into bootloader (hold volume up on boot).
Flash stock SBF (most available here).

yup..just flash the indian sbf using RSDlite and give to moto service center..

Just to make sure.. this is what i have done.. i have flashed froyo 2.2 nordic and the added cynogenmod RC1.. Now do you guys think that i can flash back to official froyo and one last bit.. is it worth to get defy repaired so shall i sell it off.. I don't want to get the ear piece issue again!
PLS HELP GUYS.. THANKS FOR ALL THOSE WHO REPLY.. RESPECT!!

Yeah, as far as I know, if you are on one Froyo base ROM, you should be able to flash between other Froyo ROMs without issue. I've only had experience of going between Nordic and UK but I don't remember seeing downgrade issues on any of the other Froyos.
With regards to what to do with the phone - it's up to you. If you like it, keep it (assuming the repair cost isn't silly) I would like to think that the newer units don't suffer the earpiece issue, so once repaired it should be fine. Having said that, I've not encountered the issue on my phone... yet.

Ok. I seem to have this problem as well. Started a couple of days back when i was using CM7. Installed MIUI and also tried in 2.2 nordic, same problem. Crackling voices, cant understand what the other guy is saying. Good voice quality through earphones and loudspeaker. Is this an earpiece problem?
@OP, did you send it back to Motorola? Am in Bangalore, dont kow where to find a Motorola dealer

Thanks guys.. I have flashed the official froyo using MSU. Now will take it to Moto.. But the official froyo is absolutely rubbish.. Freezes and very annoying! Wish switch back to CM7.. It was running awesome until the ear piece issue..

How come this earpiece issue crops up after a few days? I have had my phone for almost a month and things are going good so far.

First, wrong section. You may want to have a mod switch it before all those angry people come in here with torches and pitchforks Anyways, currently there is no way to downgrade. Until a root exploit is found in 2.2, there won't be. That said, you should be able to get Flash player runnning by factory resetting the phone. A lot of people had some issues with flash originally, but factory resetting seems to help a lot.
Weird that someone would flash 2.2 for you, since its not actually official yet, you may want to go back to the store and talk to a manager about inappropriate conduct. That's not an official update and they never should have done it, even with your permission.

Hey I was just wondering if there was a way to download a multi gig file such as a movie on the HTC Evo. I have been able to download a couple avi movies on the evo, but when I tried to do it with a 8.75 gig movie it wouldn't download it. I was hoping a dev could take a look and see why. I wad on WiFi when trying to download so I ruled out the possibility the network rejected it. Could someone help me ? Thanks in advance.

Is this a different evo than the one you were using on 7/25? Lol.
Nice try blaming it on best buy.

Yes of course we need this option and when the official is released by Sprint then the delv will start

No this is not the same evo i had on 7/25. My girlfriend dropped my last one in the bathtub. I wasnt to happy to say the least. I had to wait about two weeks to get a new one. I have not tried to reset it but i will. My phone had the update notification when we first activated the phone. Thats how i got 2.2 before most people did. So i am not ragging on best buy.
I'm gonna call BS on this 1, I seriously doubt that a Bestbuy employee found the leaked OS and downloaded it and renamed it update.zip and then hooked your phone to a computer and went through all that BS to update your phone to a unofficial OS
BTW I'm sure the devs are not gonna feel sorry for your lame BS story and start working on a fix, I my self installed the leak just like you did and am gonna have to wait for HTC to bail us out
Why would the updatebe available when it wasn't even released yet?
Sent from my EVO running Fresh
Hang on, guys. Wasn't the FIRST OTA released last week on the 29th? The "unofficial" one? It wasn't sending notifications, but some users were able to manually apply it by going to Software Update and checking for it. Heck, there were dozens of posts from users here that got it right out of the gates. Poor souls.

[Q] Warranty/Replacement Questions...

Hi all,
I recently found out that my mts's 3.5mm jack isn't exactly working... (there's sound, but I can't talk into the headset no matter which kind of earphone/microphone/headset I use) so I figured i should call T-Mo and get a replacement, but I just have a few questions before I do so...
1. How exactly does the process go, and how long would I be without a phone?
2. Do I just call the T-mo's customer service #?
3. I know I have to un-root and restore my phone to its original state. What's the best way going about doing that? I know there's the stock nandroid backup, and Eugene's Champion stock, so which one would be more advisable, or are they both okay?
Thanks for helping!
First when I did this last they sent a phone out to me and then I sent them mine back. They give you a 10 day window to return it. I flashed the stock nandroid and never they never said anything so I figure all was well
Sent From My ROOTED HTC Espresso Running CR's OTA ROM
I do not think this is an issue with the phone, but rather an issue with the rom you're using. Using the stock software, my headsets functions all worked 100%. When I rooted and was testing various roms, certain features of the headset would not work properly. So I would unroot anyways and try that first. If you go for a replacement from Tmo, then I would definitely unroot just to cover yourself.

Should i flash full Nord sbf?

I rom hop a lot and when i mess up i have to do a lot of steps of flashing a 2.1 sbf to keep my downgradability. Handset was bought second hand so no shop warranty and if the earpiece fails i'm happy to repair it myself...
So is there any reason for me not to flash the full nord sbf. As it works for cm7 and miui...i can't see a downside so someone please stop me before i do it if there is good reason
Yeah I was in the same boat - bought it second hand (although only used for less than a day) so like you have no shop warranty & mine is an early model & could fix the earpiece myself if it goes but it's still going strong.
I flashed up to froyo as I had a little "play" with eclair & wasn't happy. I'm now running the Nordic & will upgrade to CM7 or Miui (not decided which one yet).
I guess it's only a matter of time before 2.2 is officially released over here so I suppose if need be any new UK sbf could be flashed. I can't think off hand of any reason to keep it downgradable to eclair
Yeah screw it next time i mess up i'll go for the full flash. My Defy was second hand but still had original packaging and screen still had original film over it. Someones wife didn't like it lol.

I'll be following your Miui thread to see how things develop - looking promising for this device what with that & CM7 - will thenneed to decide what to go for

HTC One V Dead

So I bought my gf a one v and she loves it. One month after using it (stock, unrooted) it just went dead. Doesn't charge and doesn't get into bootloader (but not the QHSUSB_DLOAD and Blank Screen issue). Guy at repair told me that this was an issue with the ICS kernel causing a hard brick. Now, I naturally sent phone for repair since it is a warranty case. So far so good, lets just hope they get it done fast.
My question is though: should I root device and flash another ROM with presumably no such issues so I can avoid a future brick? I mean, I'm using a rooted desire and have no issues for over 2 years, now just didn't want to mess with the new phone of my gf and thought 'hey, lets keep it stock'... But the thought that it would die again after having it repaired is really discouraging. My gf is kind of frustraded and I don't want this to happen again. But are there such issues with custom ROMs for the One V? Like I said, I'm using the good old desire and don't know much about the one v, so I would really apreciate if you can tell me - because if such an issue is possible on custom roms, there is no point to bother flashing and voiding warranty.
Thanks for your time guys!
Well at the moment we have only modified stock ROM for this device and one custom kernel (in beta state) which is still an ICS kernel.
However you''ll never know whether this happens again or not. But one thing you can know for sure is that if you unlock the bootloader and install a custom kernel and ROM and it happens again then your are screwed because you lost your warranty.
Maybe you should wait a bit for some stable custom rom. Because an unstable and buggy ROM would make your gf even more frustrated and andgry
Oh well, thanks for the insight my friend..So, If I got this right, if I root and flash one of the current roms and it bricks again, I will still not be able to acces bootloader? And is this really a kernel issue with ICS? I'm willing to even flash a GB rom, if it is possible, in order to avoid this...gf won't mind for sure lol, if this delivers a stable phone in the future
P.S. Does this even happen with other ICS roms/on other stock ICS devices? Or did HTC just screw up on this one? I can understand a phone bricking when changing hboots or other tinkering, but just dieing like that is pretty damn stupid. And from what I read it happens to quite a few other one v users...Hope noone of you guys gets to experience this crap

1. In no other galaxy, no other planet... IT IS NOT A KERNEL FAULT! it may at well be a piece of poorly made phone. you should get another one from the warranty. I can 100% say that you will not have any problems. The kernel doesn't suddenly causes hard brick to your phone. If it does, do you know how many phones running ICS are there? Or One V's...
I have flashed alpha/beta/final kernels/roms for millions of times, no problems whatsoever.
in no way this is a kernel/soft problem. more likely the flash drive from your gf's phone, died!

Thx dude, I was sort of wondering how this could really be a kernel problem, since the guy over at the repair told me so - 'Its a kernel issue with ICS'... well, I hope he was really wrong and the device we receive (hopefully soon) will be proper

That guy should really make his homework. In no way a kernel can brick the phone. If this was true, the phone will not boot and work for weeks in the first place. Its not like the kernel has a "time-bomb" inside and it triggers when it is set.
As I said, it is a phone problem, something hardware has failed.
Hopefully it will be fixed for you gf and she will not have any problems in the future.
It happens in India too
My htc one v got bricked suddenly while using it. Forums at internet says it happens if battery charge goes below certain limit. Mine it went down to 24%
It happened to me when my battery level was 14%. now I have to pay 200$ for repairs. (because I live in Iran.)

mike1986's superwipe?

Hi there,
So I'm having what I believe to be hardware issues with my one x( top 1/2' of the screen is unresponsive). So being that I have 4.0.3 ics installed with the Leedroid V6.3 rom I decided to upgrade the rom to V6.4. Well with the situation with Lee going on that page has been down. Weirdly enough I started having bug issues with the display( erratic apps flashing, screen freezing etc) so I decided to look at another rom to try seeing if a complete software change would wipe away some of these issues? If it fixes the erratic behavior great. Then I know that the screen issue is definitely hardware and being that I have warrantee( based in Canada) up till July 18. So still some time. re root to stock and send in for repairs.
Man, that was a lot of back ground to arrive to my original question.
I was thinking of flashing android revolution HD( 9.9) but I cannot for the life of me find his superwipe file. Every download page leads to a removed page. Has this been eliminated? Has it been built into the rom?
superwipe does the same thing as:
- wipe data/factory reset
-format system
-clear cache and dalvik
So, just do those in recovery
PS. Why don't you update to Jelly Bean? It's been out for over 6 months
tomascus is right.. you should upgrade the hboot then just go to jelly bean..
and if you want the superwipe script that bad here it is
https://www.dropbox.com/s/0y31poo1kiaif4y/Super wipe script.zip
hope i helped
So I installed the other rom( android revolution 9.9) successfully but it did not clear the touchscreen issue. Still there. So its officially a hardware problem. I guess I will have to go the warranty route. The phone was purchased through ncix.com so HTC says they will not honor the warranty. Meaning that I have to talk with ncix to see if they back there products? The website looks great with a lot of positive info on them backing there products but I was wondering if anyone has dealt with this company through warranty? I wonder if I should change the title of this forum to "ncix warranty"?

I had them email me the original receipt and it states 30 day warranty. I think its a lost cause. I have emailed them but have not heard back( been less then 24hrs).I guess option 3 will be ordering a new screen assembly with front housing from etradesuooly.com ( sku eshtc10098155). I guess I will attempt the repair myself.
I would suggest sending it in for repair... Make sure you are fully stock with a locked bootloader before sending it!
If you want to give it a last try, you could try running a RUU and see whether it heps?!
