[Q] Wall charger vs USB charger

Hi,
I have noticed my phone charges much quicker via the USB on my PC. It takes about 2 hours to charge fully, while the wall charger takes 3-5 hours to charge like 40% or something.
The specifications for the wall charger are:
INPUT: 100-240V ~ 50/60Hz 0.2A
OUTPUT: 5.1V=== 850mA
I do'nt know what the specs for my USB port are? Can I check it in the BIOS? I have googled and found it's something around 5V 500mA, so technically my phone would charge slower...
This is how the wall charger looks like (you can unplug the USB-cable and use it on the PC since it's not a standard USB-mini connection).

Well the 500mA is the minimum spec for USB, basically they say its at least 500mA so that manufactures know how much power to expect and can design devices to run at that amount of power or less. That being said, USB can be anything above 499mA, I have seen a laptop put out 2000mA before even. So yes it is quite possible that your computer could put out over the 850mA of your charger. It probably won't say what its capable of delivering in your BIOS, if you really want to know you could try to find the specs for your computer/mobo/usb chipset. All that being said, you could always get a different USB wall adapter if you wanted to charge faster w/o a computer, just because it came with the one you currently use doesn't mean you have to use it (it is just a powered USB port after all).

Thanks, I will have to look into this, since someone else was implying my charger is broken...

Seems like your wall charger is defective, normally It takes about 1.5-2 hours for working wall charger to make the job done.
Standard PC USB port output is 5v==500mA, so it's strange that you can fully charge 1140 mAh battery just in 2 hours.

Need help fiding a charger

Hey guys, i need to find another charger for my galaxy nexus

But i need an EU exit which is 2 round pins, is it possible to buy it somewhere ? i need the Samsung official one. I do have different adapters but its not the same like the real one, most of them don't fit. Moreover i use a EzoPower travel international wall charger but the speed of charging is less then half of the real charger.

I use all sorts of third party chargers and they pretty much all work, What you need to look for is the rated amperage. the GN needs a 1 amp charger, most chargers out there for cell phones are rated at 750 mA or 500 mA.
You should also check to make sure the phone is in "AC Charge" mode, as this will indicate that it's trying to draw the full power from the wall charger, if it's set as "USB Charge" it will only draw 500mA regardless of what it's connected to. You can cheat this by shorting the two data pins, this will force the phone into AC mode.
something like this would do the job, at 2 amps, it's overkill, but I assure you, your phone will charge *Very* fast.

The trick, look for chargers designed for the Ipad that have a USB port, then use your own wire.

Review: 2A wall/car dual chargers from iSmooth

Yep, it's the same iSmooth known for their screen protectors At first I was very skeptical because they are listed for Apple products, both dual port chargers with 2.1A and 1A - typical for iPad and iPhone/iPod devices. While talking to Paul, the guy behind iSmooth, he mentioned about using it to charge his Note 2 without any issues.
I got both of them, and can report they work perfectly with our Note 2. I can use either 2A or 1A ports to charge GN2 while still have other port used by another device, either android or apple. So functionally it definitely works. Another thing I noticed, 2A port charges the phone pretty fast, and when I connected iPod Touch to 1A port, the charge rate seems to be relative the same which suggests they don't share load where with some other chargers both ports are forced to 1A.
The construction of both is very solid, these are not cheap plastic chargers. Wall charger actually has substantial weight which suggest quality electrical components. Both have white/black theme, works with my UAG Navigator lol!!! Wall charger has a blue light indicator while car charger has a glowing blue ring. I tried capturing everything in picture details below. One thing that makes it unique, wall charger has a release latch to remove the electric plug. Once you do that, you have symmetrical 2-pin universal plug you can find on a ton of your devices around the house, like laptop ac-adapter or printer plugs. I actually used one from my laptop ac-adapter (not included with wall charger, obviously), but still a neat idea for extension cord. if your electrical outlet far away. But in general, wall plug is very slim and should fit without obstruct any other device plugged next to it.
The only drawback, wall charger is sold out on Amazon and I have been told it will take a few months before its back in stock. Oh, also forgot to mention - both wall and car charger come with 10 year free replacement guarantee. That is insane confidence of the product quality.

Today I have a pleasure to review a charger that I recently purchased from Amazon.
Jelly Comb is a 5-port USB Desktop Charger with Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0 support. I'm testing the device for little over 2 weeks now with my Sony Xperia X, which is a QC 2.0 device.
Look and feel
The device is nothing more than a charger. The box contains a charger with fixed charging cable and a needle to turn the LED light on or off. The device looks pretty futuristic and resembles the alien's spaceship from the movie Arrival The front is a black panel with 4 standard ports and one QC port. The device does not come with any special cables to connect your devices. You need to get some on your own.

Features
With Jelly Comb you can charge up to 5 devices at the same time. Producer implemented the Safe USB Charging, so you should not worry that your device is going to explode. There is no indicator that the port is in use, which is a small drawback, as sometimes it comes in handy when you're trying to find out what is wrong with your device/cable/charger.

Tests
I have tested the device thoughtfully to show you some results. I connected my Xperia X with the stock cable to both standard and QC ports. The results are somehow intriguing.
First test. 14% of battery left. Screen active for 2-3 minutes. QC port.
The device needed exactly two hours to charge to 100%. Further tests showed that the charger operates at 1.0A and 7.46V
Second test. 13% of battery left. Screen active for 2-3 minutes. Standard port.
The device was fully charged in 2h 15m, which is ok. ~1.45A, 5.0V.
In overall, the phone charges quite fast and does not produce excessive heat.

Jelly Comb is an interesting device that will look nice on your desk and charge all your devices. There are a few things that might be improved - stability for instance, but I'm giving it a solid 4/5 score. If you are looking for a new charger, give it a try. [review] RavPower ultra-compact 45W PD GaN charger

RavPower reached out to me to see if I'd be interested in reviewing their new 45W gallium nitride (GaN) charger. If you haven't heard of GaN yet you'll likely be seeing it more and more as it's a newer tech that allows chargers to be smaller and more powerful. The only other on on the market right now is from Aukey, which is about the size of the OEM iPhone brick but can deliver 29W via PD. RavPower's offering is a bit larger and takes a different design approach, but ups the power to 45W making it suitable for charging devices like laptops as well as our phones. I'd read about it and seen pictures, but I didn't appreciate just how small it is until I actually got the unit.
Instead of a square brick RavPower's charger is more of a card design, with a folding plug that makes it very pocketable. At about 15mm thin the charger is insanely slim, and since the Type C Port sits at the bottom of the charger when plugged in this thing can fit behind some ridiculously tight spaces. This orientation may not always be ideal as it takes up a larger footprint along the wall, but in general I prefer it to a brick that sticks out far from the wall. The overall footprint is slightly smaller than a standard credit card. Like I said, I'd seen pictures of this before but was still blown away at just how small this charger was.
The charger uses power delivery to deliver up to 45W, and can output at 5V/3A, 9V/3A, 12V/3A, 15V/3A, and 20V/2.25A. Obviously the Pixels can only handle up to 18W but I also have a first gen Samsung Chromebook Plus and a Switch that can utilize the higher charging speeds. Using my USB C voltage tester I was able to confirm that the RavPower charged the Pixel 3 just as fast as the OEM Google brick (about 9V/1A) and it charged my Chromebook at 15V/2.25A.
This will be my new travel charger. It is so slim that it fits into any bag just fine and delivers enough power to charge both my laptop and phone at full speed. In fact, I just returned from vacation where it acted as my primary charger for two Chromebooks, two Pixels and a Switch. I'd love to see a dual port option so I could charge a few devices at once since this has enough power to charge two phones at full speed simultaneously. Still, as a first gen product this is quite impressive. I've used several RavPower chargers and battery banks throughout the years and never been disappointed; they have all been well designed and performed as expected. Even with high expectations, this charger has wowed me.

I hope this technology comes to battery packs soon. Those are getting way too big!
