What do people prefer to use as their Email client? I only have GMail accounts but find the App a bit pants.
The HTC app looks OK, as does K9, but not sure about battery use.
Anyone have any preferences?
I wouldn't recommend the HTC email application, as it keeps taking up internal memory, untill you're stuck staring at a memory low message 24/7. You can resolve it by deleting everything and configuring all accounts again though, but I guess most people cba to do that every once in a while. I know I can't.
K9 mail has a large number of users, who swear by it. I on the other hand could not deal with all the settings and ugly interface, which is why in the end I let gmail fetch emails from all of my accounts and label them accordingly. Have had no problems with the android Gmail app whatsoever, I think it works flawlessly.
So, in conclusion, it depends on what you prefer.

IMAP idle doesn't work right with default app and it wreaks havoc on battery syncing every 15 minutes for me. Pity as default mail app has a potential to be really powerful tool.
I use Enhanced Email
love it, only really go it because Improved Email went down the pan and also the Froyo stock email app wouldnt work with hotmail eas.
but enjoy it more than the stock one now
I use the stock mail app (came with redux/and miui, so i guess it's the stock one).

I am doing exactly the same. At the beginning I was using the Sense mail app but always needed to run the gmail app for my googlemail account. Now gmail fetches all my mails and labels them. Had also no issue whatsoever with the gmail app.
But as said before, at the end it depends what you prefer.

All contacts with the FB do not have pictures. Others are displayed correctly.
On the other Rom was not the problem.
Has anyone any idea?

This happened to me recently too. I suspect it has something to do with the recent fb update. I think I fixed it by uninstalling and then reinstalling the app.

The app, fb.

Unfortunately, there is no change after uninstalling and reinstalling.
I think I will return to VA 1.48 - there was OK
Hmm... yeah, that's annoying. This happened to me coming from a CM mod to BeatMod BlissSense. I did find that over the course of several hours, my contacts ever-so-slowly linked to their facebook profiles along with their pics. But after a day I flashed back to ILWT CM so I didn't explore the issue much. Good luck.
Yes ILWT is a good ROM. I have a backup of the last edition, but I like Sense
-----Edition------
I found a solution. You can use this application http://www.appbrain.com/app/com.nloko.android.syncmypix and to download photos from FB.
Since it's a sense rom, try syncing your fb conatcs via Facebook with Sense
It's a separate thing from the official FB app and after you link them to fb with sense, you'll get your contact pics.
Hope that helps

Rather, I believe that this problem only in the Rom. I returned to VA 1.48 and here without any problem display the FB's photos.
it's a problem with most sense roms. sense has a separate facebook integration. which is why you should atleast try that first.
I've tried various Rom's of Sense and only in that I have seen this problem.
I was reading some comments over at Rootwiz and discovered an app from the Android market called HaxSync.
It sync's your facebook contacts with the Contact list on your phone. It also provides pictures next to your contacts along with status updates like what Google+ does.
Its friggin awesome I can finally sync facebook to the phone properly.
Please dont flame me if this is common knowledge, just thought I would share it with people that didnt know. And of course, some custom Roms include FB sync but this does not require root.
Yep. can only confirm that. I do not want to use a custom rom and this app syncs my facbook contacts pretty well.
I worked great for me too but the battery usage made it impossible to keep, was using 20% of my battery a day!

They fixed that problem with an update. It now only does that the first time you sync and only periodically checks for updates. Mine doesn't even register anymore.
it also uses higher quality photos. I synced it then turned auto sync off. Just manually sync it now every now and again.

Does it come with an option that allows you set how often it checks for updates?
Paid version only, boo. I pay for plenty of things, but not facebook contact sync.

I don't know about whatever rom you are on, but AOKP syncs fairly low resolution Facebook pictures. HaxSync synced nice, high-res pictures but as with another person here, the battery draw was undesirable so I just stuck with the rom's sync. I might start using it again if it has really gotten better about eating a battery up though.
1 euro well spent. Excellent. A little contact joining where the names are widely different in Facebook, Twitter and Google Contacts and all is done, now with great pictures!
Solidly recommended.

It also allows you to sync only over WIFI, if data is a problem for you.
I'm not sure how well mine is working, because some contacts are sync'd to facebook, others are sync'd to HaxSync. Some contacts have high res images, others are extremely blurry.
HaxSync is supposed to have facial recognition to center the pic around the face.....but I don't find that that works for me.
Does it for anybody else? Overall, I really like it

Its appears to be working for me. One of my contacts has a headshot as her profile pic. The Facebook thumbnail is the one she chooses, which is centered properly. The Haxsync one is centered on her eyes, which cuts off the rest of her face.
Not much I can do about that, I guess. People should have better facebook pictures.
Agree. It's awesome.
Nice. I'll check this out.
Awesome. None of the ROMs with Facebook sync would sync the photos for me. This is working flawlessly.

Haxsync is nice, I just wonder how we could backup the manual contact link when moving to a new rom though.
Since we have today our fully working ICS rom, I would like to share this app
HaxSync
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.mots.haxsync
It's sync your facebook contacts (Pictures and status updates) with your phone contacts in the same way ICS sync your contacts with google plus (High res contact pictures)
The app it's only 99 cents and IMO it's totally worth it.
BTW: I hold no relationship with the developer of this app, im just a happy customer.
Try it you wont regret.

no, it's built into the official facebook app. I guess that app is included in the skyrocket port. you have to go into facebook settings and choose SYNC.
That said, it looks like my contacts (i use Go Contacts) defaults to sync with google+ before it uses facebook for photos.

Yeah man just go on to the development forums and it should be on the first page. You could also search for it. Instructions are all there. There are a couple of bugs, most notably the auto rotation doesn't work. But other than that it works perfectly for most, including me I would suggest reading the entire thread to gain a little insight into what has been going on and to be a little safer with the installation and all that.... GOOD LUCK!!
When I had my Galaxy Nexus back in December I know there was no Facebook sync available for ICS at the time, I don't know if they've updated it back then.
But you can use Friencaster to sync all your contacts and pictures.
This reminds me though, has anyone else noticed there's no People app? Is that a Nexus only app or just missing?

I have a question, Facebook from the sky rocket ICS port won't let me access the pull down notifications. What I mean is, I'll get a notification, open the pull down in the app, and it shows me what's new but I can't touch it to access it, it does absolutely nothing.
Anyone know of a better app for Facebook?

you can also try syncmypix it's free.
The gmail app in ICS added the ability to scroll left/right for the previous/next email. I find this feature to be more annoying than useful.
Most of my emails cannot fit on one screen so I have to scroll left/right to see the entire email. But a lot of times when I scroll, I accidentally scrolled to the previous/next email, rather than the left/right part of THIS email. I find it very hard to stay on this email when I scroll, it's very easy to jump to the previous/next email. I have to scroll very gently and slowly. If I scroll a bit fast, it jumps, if I scroll a bit more, it jumps.
i couldn't agree more. i do so wish i could double-tap to fit the email in the screen.
I prefer it actually. I get mostly promo emails, most of which i dont read and makes for faster flipping through and deleting. The double tap zoom would be nice though
I can't stand it or the ICS email app either one. I can no longer use my me.com (Apple) email address on my phone with ICS. I cannot manually put in the ports and servers and stuff. Works like a champ on GB. And it will not work with the exchange email settings in ICS either. why did they have to **** up something that was working perfectly fine to begin with. Sometimes innovation and change are just done for the hell of it not because it is better!!!!
I hate the gmail noises and always delete it. Use secure9 mail
Backup and uninstall your ICS Gmail app through TB and place this GB Gmail app in system/app.
Here is the apk.
Click Thanks if I helped.

What kind of notifications do you miss?
Perhaps you should activate them yourself, on your fb groups you should visit the group and turn on notifications to get them, for IM you game messenger perhaps (no problem there I think?)
You can also check the refresh interval @settings on your Facebook app if it is high then you won't get notifications so often.

where to check - within the app or within FB itself?
This is an Android issue....the only way I solved it myself was get access to a blackberry (yeah I know) or the virtual Blackberry software for windows.
Once logged in to Facebook log straight back out, you only need it for a minute, then go to Facebook on a PC, account settings and then apps I believe, in there somewhere will be Facebook for Blackberry, allow this access and that's it!
Its a bit fiddly but it solved it for me!
If you Google the right thing you will find a step by step guide, sorry I did this a year ago, so its all from memory :-\

I can confirm this. When I was still using my Galaxy S2 and lacked notifications for Facebook, I used the virtual blackberry software for windows from the RIM site, and logged in on facebook with that to fix the problem. It's been mentioned a few times before.
this is an well-known issue and affecting majority of Android devices, there are two workarounds
1. use MB Notifications for Facebook from Android Market
2. try the Blackberry FB tricks here:
