[Q] Gtalk (and Gmail) connection issue on 4G (SRF 1.2) - Epic 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

The following message is being displayed when sending a message in Gtalk:
"Lost connection to server. Messages will be sent when online."
The thing is that most of the time the message goes through (despite the error message), but only after I select "end chat", but sometimes the message does not go through at all. Some people see me as being available, others say they don't see me on the list at all.
I also noticed that Gmail is giving me a "No Connection" message at the bottom of my message list, along with a "Retry" button. Hitting the "retry" button reloads the rest of my email. All other apps seem to be running fine.
ALL THIS IS ONLY AN ISSUE WHEN ON 4G. All is fine when on 3G.
I think this has been an issue since flashing SRF 1.2 (and Honeycomb Fusion theme) a couple of days ago.
I searched google, and see some other people reporting similar issue, but no solutions.
Any ideas?

"error synchronising" text messages.

This is REALLY beginning to annoy me. I'm from the UK and have a touch pro 2 with t-mobile (though I believe its unbranded), and many times when i attempt to send a text i get a message saying "your text message could not be sent" and then below it says "synchronization error". It mostly occurs with the touch flo message interface and I presume somethings happened thats led to it sometimes mixing up my SMS and email (hotmail), as sometimes when the text isn't sent it redirects me to my mail inbox.
Ive tried a soft reset but the error persists. How do I fix this (aside from a hard reset?)?
many thanks!
welll, anyone?

[Q] Messaging Bug After 2.2 Update?

Hi all.
I was wondering if anybody who has updated to Android 2.2 is having issues with the stock messaging app when composing messages? When I write a message, the message conversation randomly skips to the top of the conversation where the earliest message is listed. When this happens you can no longer see the message composer box, and have to manually scroll all of the way through the messages back to the bottom to be able to review/send the message. Very annoying when you have a significantly long conversation!
I had that a while back, only it was when i sent the message it would jump to the top,,, and it was pre Froyo,,,, havent had this issue thur far on SETrom 4.5, so heres hoping!

Yes, I definitely see this. I don't know if it has to do with the number of messages or anything. But in the end, I use chompSMS for my messaging needs. I only noticed it because the native app shows you whether an MMS has been successfully sent or not - so I was playing around in there, and found it was jumping around a lot. Basically, as I typed, and the word suggestion bubbles appeared, it just went a little crazy. I run the HTC_IME mod keyboard - so not sure if it was that - I didn't do further testing, as I said, I just use compSMS

[Q] MMS Messages not downloaded automatically

Hello. I'm wondering if anyone can assist me.
I have an Xperia Arc, running the most recent official Sony release. I have not 'rooted' or unlocked the 'phone, it is as it left the O2 shop. Plus the odd scratch or two...
When I am sent an MMS message, two annoying things happen.
1. The 'ringer' doesn't sound, the vibrator doesn't vibrate. If you happen to be looking, the light on the side of the 'phone flashes once, then nothing.
2. When I open the Messages App, the conversation relating to the person who sent the MMS message is at the top of the screen. If I open this conversation I see a blank message with the text 'Message not downloaded' in it. After a long period of time of clicking and tapping, I found that if I 'Long Click' the Message Not Downloaded notification, I get the option to download the message. Once I have manually selected the download option, the message is downloaded correctly, and once fully downloaded, the 'ringer' sounds as normal, along with any vibration.
I have no problem whatsoever in sending MMS messages.
Once the option to download has been selected, I have no problem receiving the message (apart from seeming rather slow).
I've seen threads that suggest checking or changing the APN settings, I would have thought that has to be working correctly, as sending and receiving messages works, if not automatically.
I did wonder if it might be due to being on a slow network, here at home we don't have fast O2 mobile coverage, no 3G, Edge or HSDPA here, just plain GPRS (G in status bar).
Is there a way of having the 'phone automatically download the MMS message and content?
in the first voice of the menu, i guess you can find where to download content for data and mms
Duplicate. Sorry.

I've checked all the menus I can think of, but can't see any download options. Is there a specific menu you are thinking of here CavinRay?
I had this issue before, I use handcent, and sorted it by opening up the stock message app and going into the options.
Look for something to do with 'push settings' and make sure it's selected.
Might not help but worth a shot mate.
Sent via subspace beacon from my Arc.

Thanks, I've just tried turning it off (it was already on) then exiting Messages, re-opening Messages and turning it back on.
I'll see if that has any effect on the confusion.

SMS Disappearance

Hello
So I have experienced my first "bug" with my GN (or maybe it's ICS?)
I was browsing in chrome when I noticed at the bottom it said "message received" in an overlay. As you do when you get a message while using the phone.
What didn't happen was it didn't scroll through the message at the top of the screen in the status bar. I thought it was a bit weird. So I opened my messages and nothing new was there. It didnt make any sound either, so I thought I was crazy and moved on.
As I was having a conversation with my partner at the time, she messaged me a few mins later wondering what my response was and I told her I didn't receive anything at all.
This is quite concerning. The phone most definitely recognised I got a message but it didn't show up. She said she sent 2 messages. Has anyone else experienced something similar?
We're both on the same network if its even possible this could be a carrier issue.
The "message received by <phone number>" toast message at the bottom of the screen is the other party receiving one of your messages. You turn this on in Messaging > Settings > Delivery reports. This will show next to the time stamp of every sent message in a thread the SMS icon with a green check mark over it whenever the message is confirmed to be received by the other party
You not receiving messages is a different issue. Try installing something like "Ghostly SMS" to see if your phone is losing SMS messages. I haven't heard of this as an issue in ICS yet.

Message Center number - error 50?

Hi. My 2XL (UK, not rooted, Vodafone) has suddenly stopped sending texts and is giving me an 'error 50' code. I use Google Messages and have also tried Chomp and it happens on both, so it isn't the app. For most phones it is apparently a simple case of updating the Message Center number using message settings, but apparently the Pixels don't have that facility, so I've been using the code: *#*#4636#*#* and then clicking 'phone information' and then the forums say to hit 'refresh' and the Message Center number updates. That does happen, but it seems to wipe as soon as I exit the screen and I'm back to square one, with 'error 50' again.
Any ideas? Please help if you can, as this is driving me up the wall!
Is there any possibility that getting a new sim might help? (Or is that unlikely?)
This has now been fixed and I wanted to post about that to help anyone who may have the same problem in the future. Even though Vodafone assured me it was a local issue (my phone) it turns out to have been a network problem (their settings) and they found a server-side solution by'flushing' my signal, whatever that means. Everything started to work again, although it took a few hours. I hope this helps.
