It seems to be a known problem, but with no fix as yet. I must admit that I wouldn't have flashed the CyanogenMod way had I realised - however....
This thread is talking about the issue with a partial fix
I tried the suggested solution, but it only enabled file transfers by Bluetooth, and it is hands free and music that I need.
I will monitor the thread and hopefully something will turn up. It seems the main problem is that the required Bluetooth services are not present in the ROM.

Just confirming it also worked for me
GPS was NOT even enabled....download GPS Essentials, if you hit Satellites icon in it and see an error about the location device being disabled then you're seeing what i saw...and this may work for you
Already had 3.35.20.10
Using latest CM7
1) Reflashed it via Android Flasher
2) Turned on GPS...nothing..same old error in GPS Essentials...
3) Curse CyanogenMod for releasing a ROM with NO WARNING that it would kill your GPS...worked fine on the stock Telstra ROM
4) Turn Off Wifi as i read somewhere in the countless threads about CM and GPS failure that some people could get GPS working when Wifi was off
5) Turn GPS off and then back on...test in GPS Essentials...error gone and satellites...and im inside in a concrete two story house...got a fix in 25 seconds, 9 satellites....
6) Figure i was going to be one of those either Wifi Or GPS victims. Turn Wifi back on..test GPS...Fine
Fully working ........
Android Flasher - great app, i used it like the OP did as part of the process to root my Telstra Wildfire...makes things easier than some of the convoluted steps ive seen elsewhere to do things like install clockworkmod and to downgrade HBOOT to run revolutionary. It saved me countless steps to do HBOOT, CWM and now reflashing the radio
So still problem with GPS na Bluetooth with actually CM7?
quick question guys and dolls, Ive been having problems with my GPS also and reflashing the new radio solved that. I would just like to ask if aside from your GPS and bluetooth, will it also affect your messaging like SMS and MMS. I use to be able to get 3G, EDGE, HSDPA but now, my choices are 2G and 3G only. Forgive me for this noob question, I am and will always be a noob, but, I am always willing to learn
Thank you for your reply

Hi guys
After flashing my phone with leeDroid 2.2.0 I've noticed that my gps signal is very poor , to the point it has not connected yet. I upgraded my radio after flashing and its been poor since then. I've tried with Google maps and navigation and neither bondat. The used the agps function but that's all that works. Gps status from the market states 4 sats in about 20 seconds though.
Anyone got any tips or should I roll back the radio ?
Thanks guys

Could it be that it was the first time you "activate" your GPS? First time will take longer than usual. After the first time, probably it may take 5 minutes or more, you will get a faster fix. Did you change your NTP server to your nearest one?
I am running 2.2.2 now and I get a lock within 5-15 seconds. in both situation moving(on the road) and not moving(static). at most it will take is 30 seconds but its rarely now.

Maybe you should try Faster fix and then tell us if you still got problems.
Faster Fix
Anyway, you should better update to Leedroids 2.2.2 and his new Kernel and maybe the advised radio 12.28e.60.140f_26.04.02.17_M2 they work pretty fine.
having same problem...
using radio 12.54.60.25_26.09.04.11_M2, from leedroid page...flashed it twice.
I get no GPS signal...tried faster fix and set to north america as well. Any next steps?

Hey, I recently modded my wildfire with jokergen 1.0beta and I really love the smoothness of cm 7.1 and the speed of laucherpro and of course the fact that laucherpro is way smaller. But I noticed that lots of time my wifi connection isn't good and it switches to data connection a lot of time, even if I am within 5m from the wifi modem... Are there fixes for that?
Hboot: 6.01.1002
Kernel:2.6.35.13 nFinity
Rom: jokergen 1.0beta
Radio: 3.35.20.10

Android 2.3.4 joker version
Clockworkmod 3.0.0.6
I guess everybody read over this topic but basicly I am using jokerdroid now instead of jokergen because of the WiFi problem. is there a way to fix this like there is a way for the gps?
Try: settings -> Wireless and networks -> wi-fi settings -> press "menu" -> advanced -> wifi suspension -> never.

I have no idea about the radio! its the only part i truly dont understand if you could tell me about it, i know people have had 4g by flashing some different radio but i really have no idea!!
Please help meee!
4g is not supported on our wildfire.
To flash a radio to the device you need to have cwm recovery 2.5 or below. 3+ wont work instantly.
Make sure your phone has enough battery!!
cmw 2.5.X or below:
Just flash the radio
I cant give you the url to a radio file. only by pm if you need it, and cant find it on xda.
cmw 3+
Flash first the attached file (update1) to get temporary cmw 2.5.X
Then flash the radio
Hazou
Hit the thanks if it worked
Open an app which actually uses GPS to see the GPS symbol on the status bar. Example - Google Maps. When an app is not using the GPS, no symbol will be shown.

This happened with me once. What worked for me was to flash a Sense-based ROM (RemPuzzle), turn on GPS, open app like Maps, set location, then DO NOT TURN OFF GPS and wipe and flash cm7.2 again. Your GPS will work this time.

Hello,
The GPS works correctly with CM 7.1 and CM 7.2.
After flashing the CM 7.2 zip file, you have to flash the gapps zip file.

it works with me normally.
I've tried all this, nothing works... faulty radio probably :/
I get very poor signal at home. When I try my SIM in my old ZTE Blade it gets a better signal. I have taken my Desire apart and cleaned up the antenna contacts as per advise here:

This hasnt helped at all.
Does anyone have any ideas? Would a new radio/RIL combination help?

Radio - 32.49.00.32U_5.11.05.27
My rom has HTC-RIL 1.6.1062G (Apr 23 2010, 17:35:06)
Thanks,

Has that been the case with your Desire eversince or just when you used CM7? Before you mess with the radio, try the CyanogenMod_v7.2.0.1 and see if that fixes things for you.
I only moved to this house after i changed to CM7.
I would try and see if the same thing happens when you use a different rom. Try Oxygen rom and see if there is an improvement. You really dont want to mess with radio unless you are sure that's the cause. Bad roms can easily be replaced. Bad radio flash can't.
via xda app
Good idea about changing ROM, i will investigate that. Do you know what RIL is in oxygen and cm7.2?

I honestly don't know. There's a command to pull that information via adb I think but I haven't tried it yet.
I've used this app to get the RIL info. It doesn't do anything else but get the info from the rom you are currently running. I found it on XDA but it's been a long time I cant remember where.
In the terminal type:
su
getprop "gsm.version.ril-impl"
That gives you the version of RIL you have. CM7.1 has HTC-RIL 1.6.1062G (Apr 23 2010, 17:35:06), what does CM7.2 have?
I would go for the lastest radio: 32.56.00.32U_5.17.05.23 It works great with all the roms you've mentioned. Be careful flashing it, if your desire shutdowns while flashing radio you'll probably get a brick.

Yes, it didnt help at all. I dont see anyone else suffering like this. My old ZTE Blade still has better signal so I will go back to that until I can fix this or get a new phone.
OK I have managed to pin this problem down a bit more.
Occasionally the phone just loses signal and says 'No network', at this stage it says signal is -96 dbm yet I could make a call earlier when the phone had -111 dbm. I just dont understand it, what would cause this kind of behaviour?

Damn was worrying you'd say that! may your new phone forever have a good signal!
Running Oxygen 2.3.2 on a rooted and S-OFF HTC Desire (stock HBOOT), which I flashed tonight.
The WIFI appears to connect to my home network but the phone does not actually receive any internet access.
Prior to rooting I was using the WIFI without issues, and nothing has changed in the network since I rooted - my laptop is currently successsfully connected to the internet.
Security is WPA/WPA2, which I changed from WEP ages ago when a buggy tablet wouldn't connect and I was checking it wasn't the encryption that was causing the problem. the phone was connecting to the WPA/WPA2 succesfully. No proxy.
I've searched and haven't found anyone with this exact issue, so I'm not sure how to go about troublshooting.
- I didn't think flashing the Oxygen HBOOT listed on the alphadev site would solve this problem, so I haven't done that yet.

5.09.05.30_2 (stock radio).
Although I haven't checked since I flashed either cyanogen or Oxygen (WIFI wasn't working on cyanogen and I didn't like the ROM a whole lot anyways), but I don't think custom ROMs touch the radio - unless I'm mistaken?
You should definitively upgrade your radio version to the latest one - 5.17.05.23. You can find download link here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=687464 The latest radio is highly recommended when using custom ROM, because they are usually tested with latest radio.

Okay, cheers, will do.
EDIT: Nevermind, after scrolling from 2010 to 2012 posts and across two forums, I found the answer (simplest response is on here for anyone interested -- essentially, the method listed is apparently a very old one, pre-recovery days. Just use recovery to flash the radio like you would with a ROM. No wipe needed, apparently.)
I'm assuming you've done this already?
If so, could you explain step 6 - where do I get the .bat script / modaco r5 root pack... Do I even need it since my phone is rooted and has recovery etc?
(I've read several people saying you "just flash it like you would flash a ROM", so I'm guessing that means loading the radio's .zip file onto my SD card and flashing from recovery like I would with a ROM?)
1. Turn your desire off
2. Hold the back button and turn your desire on
3. When you are at the white screen, make sure BOOTLOADER is selected and press the power button
4. Wait a few seconds then press volume down to select RECOVERY and press the power button again
5. When you are at the screen with the red triangle and the phone, plug in the usb cable
6. Run the recovery-windows.bat script from modaco r5 root pack
7. When the recovery menu appears select 'Flash zip from sdcard'
8. Select the radio zip file and press the trackerball to confirm
9. Press the trackerball over 'Reboot system now'
10. When the radio image has finished being written unplug the usb cable
11. The phone will reboot a couple of times and then return to a normal state with your new radio
Click to collapse
The steps you found are probably outdated. It's really simple. Download latest radio and put it to the root of your SD card. Then you have to reboot to recovery (directly from running ROM or with volume down button pressed when powering up the device). Once you're in recovery, select update from zip (I don't know if you're using Clockworkmod or 4Ext) and choose zip file you downloaded before. Device should reboot and reflash the radio. That's all...
Does upgrading the radio influence the WIFI though?
I've been reading the radio-related post that lists the newest radios and there's a lot of talk about GPS and signal strength improving / worsening with radio changes, but haven't yet found anything relating to WIFI.

Ah crap
Just flashed the latest radio (5.17 etc) as I would with a ROM - yes I did a nand backup using Amon Ra.
Anyways, flashed it - told me it was doing its thing, asked me to restart system to allow it to finish etc, so I did.
It flashed to the HTC boot screen, then returned to Amon Ra recovery
Its now been about 5-10minutes and there's a msg saying:
Build: RA-desire-v2.0.1
Formatting CACHE:...
And that's it. Hasn't moved a bit since that screen and msg came back.
What can I do now? I can navigate the Amon Ra recovery menu, but I'm scared to reboot the system in case I brick my phone.... help please!

So I accidentally solved the problem when I accidentally hit hte trackball and confirmed the "reboot system now" option from the main menu.
Radio is upgraded successfully by the looks of it.
Unfortunately though, WIFI still doesn't work
You've gone through all the trouble of changing your radio. Did you ever bother to try other roms first?
You say that nothing has changed with your wifi connection but you are using a secured connection. Did you even tried a connection with your wifi unsecured and try to establish a connection with the phone?

If you're going to just get narky, then I'm not sure why you're posting, tbh.
Yes, I had used cyanogen 7 prior to oxygen and had the same problem.
And I only flashed oxygen on Monday night, so I don't have the luxury of running around finding unsecured wifi during my work days.
Having said that, a neighbour leaves unsecure wifi on late at night, and I can pick it up and managed to briefly connect to the net before the signal strength died., so yes I'm assuming I can connect to at least one unsecured network.
Which I guess means something's been changed in the scripts running in custom roms vs stock, which isn't helpful.
Well, could you confirm you have the latest radio now? I mean was the upgrade successful? Did you try to do nandroid backup, wipe device and test from scratch with fresh install?

And I only flashed oxygen on Monday night, so I don't have the luxury of running around finding unsecured wifi during my work days.
Having said that, a neighbour leaves unsecure wifi on late at night, and I can pick it up and managed to briefly connect to the net before the signal strength died., so yes I'm assuming I can connect to at least one unsecured network.
Which I guess means something's been changed in the scripts running in custom roms vs stock, which isn't helpful.

I'm just suggesting things that ya'll may have overlooked. I've used CM and Oxygen and never had any issues with wifi may it be what type of security being implemented.
Well after playing around with my router's settings for ages, I finally made it work by changing the mode from "b/g/n mixed" to "b/g mixed". I was able to keep my WPA2 security on.
- Yep, radio was succesfully upgraded, even though it didn't appear to be.
I guess these custom ROMs do something to the WIFI component of the Desire because I was able to connect to the network with the b/g/n mixed mode in use before I flashed the custom ROMs.
This is annoying because it means I'll likely not be able to use any public WIFI hotspots that are set as b/g/n mixed...
Just to illustrate how tricky this can be. I had the same symptoms on my HTC Desire: Wifi connected OK to a b/g/n router but would not transfer any data through browsers, email, PlayStore, anything really.
Initially running Miui 2.4.9 and Wifi was OK.
Upgraded to Miui 2.4.13 but the ugrade did not complete successfully. The phone worked except that Wifi connected but didn't work.
Restored the phone with an earlier backup of MildWild CM-8.0 ROM which used to have working Wifi. Wifi still no good.
Flashed latest Radio 5.17.05.23. Wifi still no good.
Flashed earlier Radio 5.09.05.30. Wifi still no good.
Flashed full GB Miui 2.4.13 ROM. Wifi still no good.
Re-flashed latest Radio 5.17.05.23. Wifi works!!!! WTF?
