Hi, im running on htc desire amoled
pvt1 s-on
hboot 0.93.001
numerous problem have been encounter throughout my attempt to flash custom rom
1) i been trying to s-off using alpharev without success. alpharev reported my phone is not supported???
2) ;later on i try using s-on method to flash custom rom, its work, but only boot with my 2gb memory card and stuck on htc white screen if i use 8gb memory card.
3) trying using both rcmix rom and cool kingdom v7 rom, my weather live wallpaper is shuttering badly
will be appreciate alot if anyone able to solve my problem. thx
Flash an Oxygen rom first - any oxygen rom for the desire and the then use alpharev to s-off. I had the same problem when i was trying to s-off and someone reccomended that I flash an Oxygen rom first. It worked perfectly.
Live wallpaper will stutter/lag on the desire when using those roms.
thanks for the quick reply, and its WORKED !
now I'm S-offed,
will further explore the system now...
thx again
Glad I could help!
No that you're s-off, you may want to try android flasher, its a great little program - you can flash a new splash screen, bootanimation, radio, recovery or even change your hboot.

Forum newbie here. Sorry if this has been answered before, but I can't seem to find it poking around.
I want to root a newly-purchased HTC Desire that came stock w/ Android 2.2
I've never installed HTC Sync on my PC, and I've never even used the stock 2Gb micro SD that came with the phone (I immediately replaced it w/ a 16Gb mem card).
The Hboot USB Driver installed properly so that I can see "Android Bootloader Interface" in Device Manager under "Android Phone" when the phone is plugged into the PC, but when I turn the phone on again in normal mode and plug it back in, it only shows "ADB" under "Other Devices". I did turn on USB debugging and changed the Sync mode to "Charge only" after plugging in the phone.
The Unrevoked program (3.22) starts up a bit too slowly. And when I try to root the phone, nothing happens past the splash screen. It seems unable to detect the phone. Why might this be?
My phone's details are as follows:
Android ver. 2.2
Software # 2.13.707.2
Hboot ver. 0.93.001
Bravo PVT4 SHIP S-ON
Thanks for any help.
Did you try to open the hboot driver.htm file that is inside your unrevoked folder ?
Because in that file it says - step-by-step what you need to do - download some modified drivers and install those first
There isn't a folder of any sort. When I click the unrEVOked icon, it just pops straight to the program. So I figured to install the Hboot driver manually. Still no luck detecting the phone....

"I've never installed HTC Sync on my PC,"-This is the root of your troubles. Unrevoked uses a Fastboot driver of its own, and another driver from HTC.
So,
First install HTC completely.
Now uninstall HTC Sync program alone (keep the other two programs installed by HTC intact. Do not remove them).
Now boot device to fastboot (Back+Power) and install Unrevoked driver.
Now boot, and run unrevoked in Charge mode.
droidzone, thanks a lot! That did the trick. So now I have the little black ninja for Superuser Permissions.
Thing is, why can I still not transfer all apps onto the SD card? Apps2SD won't do it, and the Manage Applications under Settings won't either. I have to mention that when it said "Done" in the unrEVOked screen after a few minutes of rooting, the phone was left in the Bootloader screen and won't turn off, so what I did was I removed the battery and powered it back on to the normal screen.
What might've gone wrong?
Nothing went wrong. Get an a2sd+ based custom Rom for better transfer of apps. I recommend miui, auraxtsense and leedroid.

roms
i recommend leedroid you will be familiar with it and it is a lot better than stock

Second this. LeeDroid is pretty much standard Sense with A2SD+ a few apps thrown in (Titanium is useful on a rom) and nice mods like wake using trackpad. Its a nice introduction to custom roms.

The closest to stock is teppic74's rooted Rom which is the Rom kitchen applied on stock Rom without modifications but adding rooting and options as addons.
Both leedroid and auraxtsense are pretty much similar and based on stock, but modded. Miui is the easiest and most beautiful of the non hd roms. Choose your pick whichever you like. Just do a nandroid backup from clockworkmod before applying each Rom and you can choose whichever you like.

First, how do I do a nandroid backup from ClockworkMod?
Second, how do CyanogenMod and MoDaCo ROM measure up against LeeDroid and the others mentioned above? I'm only interested in having a ROM that transfers all apps to the SD Card, as well as the ability to undervolt and conserve battery (w/out sacrificing speed).
About S-OFF
One more thing: What is S-OFF and do I need it? My phone is S-ON. Is Alpharev 1.8 the best program for it?
For reference, my full phone details are as follows:
Android ver. 2.2

So if I need S-OFF, which do I do first? Flashing a custom ROM or S-OFF?
Thanks for your time.
Thanks guys. What about MoDaCo ROM? How does it measure up against LeeDroid and the others? I'm primarily looking for a ROM that will accomodate well stuff like SetCPU.
My main aim is to undervolt without sacrificing processor speed, as well as to conserve battery power, in addition to moving apps to SD card.
Again, thanks!
Greetings folks,
Just a quick one,
I have my phone Radio S-OFF and ENG S-OFF,
But if i run the orange RRU,
RUU_Ace_Orange_UK_1.40.61.2_Radio_12.28b.60.140e_26.03.02.26_M_release_157531_signed
Will that cause me to loose both S-OFF ?
Its just i dont really need custom roms & also the thoughput seems better on the RRU,
At this point i am using Android Revolution with a non stock splash screen.
What happens if i run the RRU ?
Regards
Steven
You may lose it, but if so its easy to root again and get s.off. I started with the same Rom then rooted with visionary and radio/Eng.s off. It doesn't have the problem of 1.72 stock roms
Hello!
I flashed my Toshiba Folio a year ago using a guide from this forum and it worked brilliantly, and because my HTC Desire Z was getting slower by the minute, I decided I wanted a custom ROM on my DZ.
I used the HTC Dev Unlock to get root, that went all perfectly.
After that, I installed Clockwork Recovery Mod and tried to flash 2 different Custom Roms (Android Revolution HD™ 7.0.0) and CyanogenMod-7.
What I didn't realize was that I needed S-off to flash a custom Rom, and now I only get a white HTC screen at startup.
It is still possible to get in Hboot/fastboot and into the Clockwork recovery mod, but I can't find a solution to what to do now. ADB isn't working in hboot/fastboot and the ways to get S-off are with ADB. Can I get my DZ back into original state safely, or is there another way to get S-off?
Thank you all in advance!
Ps: I also tried flashing a lower (1.34) ROM or a Stock Rom, but they don't work

I want to thank NIPQER very much for solving my problems on #G2ROOT
Hi all,
So long story short, I lost my Sensation in Thailand and am holding off buying a new phone until the One XL is released. In the mean time, I'm trying to recondition my Desire. It is rooted, but doesn't have S-Off. It is running HBoot 0.80.0000.
I want to flash a Data++ Hboot, as the low storage space warnings used to drive me crazy!
I want to use Revolutionary to obtain S-Off. but it only supports HBoot 0.93.0001 and upwards. I have no idea how to update my HBoot without having S-Off.
Tried the alpharev iso method, (which doesn't seem to care about the HBoot version) but it fails at step 3 (seems to boot loop). Thankfully it didn't brick!
So my question is:
How can I get S-Off?
Cheers.
Did you tried to flash the official 2.3 GB and then S-OFF?
It should change your hboot to 1.02.0001.

This seems like the most logical answer.
Download this http://www.htcdev.com/process/legal_download/152
Then use revolutionary.
You'll only need the Data++ HBoot if the ROM you intend to use requires it. Make sure you pick the ROM you want first and flash the HBoot that applies to it, otherwise you'll have to flash downgrade and flash new Hboot all over again, making more work for yourself.
Thanks for the feedback all.
Ended up having to give up cos the phone keeps randomly boot looping. Sometimes it will boot, other times it reboots as soon as sense loads and then goes into a reboot loop.
I somehow managed to flash a stock ROM and remove root, yet it still randomly boot loops, so I'm suspecting it's hardware related, which totally sucks!
Would you agree with this assessment? If not, what else could be causing it to randomly reboot?
Cheers!
Try underclocking the phone's CPU and try it again. Also, try flashing to Cyanogenmod 7.1 ROM, run that on my Desire and I have no stability issues, unlike older ROMs.

Doubt it'd help. Boot cycling happens outside of the actual ROM.
An update on the S-Off process...
I successfully flashed the Gingerbread ROM and then got S-Off using Revolutionary. I flashed the Data++ HBoot and then flashed Leedroid HD v3.3.3-R5 Data++ build. Worked first boot and I was able to install a few apps and work the phone. Rebooted to see what would happen and then got boot loops (sometimes got as far as displaying the unlock screen before restarting but often rebooted whilst displaying the custom Leedroid boot animation).
Seems If I leave it off for a while it will successfully boot off a cold start, but once it's been on a while it boot loops. Overheating CPU??
If this is not hardware related, I'm out of troubleshooting ideas...
At this point, the phone is well and truly out of warranty, so I'm happy to tinker with it. Would it be worth taking it apart? Is it possible to add thermal paste to the CPU?
Would love some suggestions!
Hello,
I recently bought an used Desire Z (euorpean version) and it had a Cyagenmod on it, but I don't like that and wanted to install a Stock rom. I've downloaded this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1169004 (the second one) started the phone in Bootloader, went into recovery, wiped all caches and data, installed the zip from the zip and restarted it. It loaded but couldn't pass the htc screen, so I thought it could be a good idea to flash the boot.img via fastboot but that also didn't help (I waited about 30minutes but nothing happened).
I already rooted a Samsung S5something, a htc Desire HD and a htc evo 3d but I'm really stuck with this one.
Here are the infos from the bootloader:
Vision PVT ENG S-OFF
HBOOT-0.84.2000

Is it bricked? If yes can I repair it or should I trash it?
Is here maybe someone from europe whom I could send this phone to flash the newest stock rom on it? I really love that phone and always wanted to have one (this special one is in nearly perfect condition).
Please help me cause I'm helpless :crying:
I doubt you are bricked, it was probably just a bad flash or a bad download as that ROM should work fine for you. And being you are s-off you don't need to flash the kernel from fastboot
Just do a full wipe/format and flash the ROM again or try another, all links found here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2348266
Just pick a gingerbread sense ROM and it will be a rooted version of stock. Just be sure to wipe all partitions in either recovery or fastboot
Best of luck!
I tried 3 different Roms now:
Virtuos Sense Gingerbread
WWE_2.42.405.4 Rooted StockROM
T-Mobile G2 Stock (OTA 2.16.531.5) Rooted
This time I didn't flash boot.img via fastboot and none of them will load. The phone is stuck in the htc screen allthough the setup always says that it was completed successfully.
I never had so many problems with a phone before.
If it matters the phones uses ClockworkMod Recovery v5.8.1.0
I just realised I have a G2 and not a Z.
Could some please post me a stock Gingerbread Rom that works 100% with the G2 in europe? Cause I'm really really frustrated and desperate (sitting here around 4 hours and nothing works).
Don't worry about G2 vs DZ ROMs, it wont matter just he preference
Grab the latest 4ext recovery and format all partitions in recovery then flash away
I forgot how to do this (i had 4ext touch on my Desire HD and Evo3D) and here I can only find apk files, could you please give me a link to a file that I can flash onto the G2? Or tell me how to install the apk without an OS.
See the thread I linked you prior
There is a section on recoveries and if that wont help see the section on fastboot
THX alot, I figured it out and I managed to get it starting.
Now I've got only one last question.
Where can I get a 2.42.405.5 or at least 2.42.405.4 for my device, I'm asking because mine says all the time that is an update (but updating fails, I know -> S-OFF)? The only things I've found here are 2.42.405.4 (which i cant download for some reason) and 2.42.405.4 (WiFi doesn't work).
I'm not sure really as I couldn't stand the stock ROMs for this phone, especially with so many superior custom ROMs to pick from.
Maybe just grab a stock based ROM, it will be much more stable, better battery life etc and you won't even have to remove any of the bloat. But of course that's your choice
