what are those 2 and how can i install them? i can't find any tuto for htc desire... will CM7 HBOOT and fat align improve lagginess/jerkiness i have on camcorder recordings (480p)?
HBOOT is just the bootloader I believe. There is no reason to update this. FAT32 refers to formatting. If you format your SD card to FAT32 with 32KB clusters with your computer (Just right click the card in my computer, select format, select FAT32 with 32KB clusters, uncheck quick format) that might improve your recording FPS. You will lose all data on the SD card though if you do this so make sure you back anything up that is important and after the format you can transfer it back across.

Hi everyone!
I have a transcend 8GB micro sd (class 6) in my desire.
Ive formated it like that:
7gb fat32
1gb ext3 (maybee its ext2 or 4 I dunno)
no swap
a few days ago my phone sayd that the sd card is corrupted!
The strange thing is that all my apps which are on the exp partition are still working flawlessly and I can also access all files on the sd card via ES Strong File manager!
What I cant do for ex. is setting up ringtones which are on my sd card. They show up in the ring tone menu but no sound plays but when I open em in the mp3 player they play fine!
I also cant take pics/vids with the cam because the phones says I should insert a sd card!
Is this a known problem?
What I wanna do is getting my data and my apps over to my computer and then reformating the card and transfering everything back. Just to see if it works then (doubt it!).
But I dont know how to do it because of the ext partition! Can you give me a hint please?

its quite easy for one partiton to be corrupt while the other isnt, thats because there using diffrent fs's unless you have linux there is no way to access your ext partiton, just format the card and start again
Download the gparted(?) liveCD.
Mount the disk image, via daemon tools/cd etc.
This way, you can just reformat the partition you need.
I found this useful switching my ext4 to ext3 without wiping my FAT32 partition.
As long as you don't attempt to resize or touch the FAT32 partition, as linux handles FAT32 differently, and can become temperamental.
Shouldnt I be able to access the ect partition from any linux distri via vm ware?
I think thats the way to go - will try it today and report
I found this, too: http://www.howtoforge.com/access-linux-partitions-from-windows
think it will work but I have to gather some knowledge about linux anyway!
I just got a new 16gb Microsd card and want to shift everything from my old 8gb one....thing is i used the old one for AP2SD and Davlick to SD.....is there any way to "clone" the card so that i dont lose any apps and settings ?
put the old card out of the phone
insert it into a cardreader
start a linux of your choice(maybe Gparted-livecd) and mount your hdd and the sd-fat32 and sd-ext
now copy everything from the 2partitions on you harddisk
unmount the sd
put the new one in
if you use already use gparted its easy, make at the first part (left side) the fat 32 partition
than partition the rest as ext (would suggest ext-3 best suported) ~1gb
after this move the fat part on the fat partition and the ext on the ext partition
you should be done
good luck
Sounds easy!
Just had a question relating to this, would buying a class 6 SD card make much difference to the speed of the phone for a CM7 rom compared to a class 4 card?

Well, it sounds easy, but I'm afraid it is not. (it seemed to me like my ROM held some kind of partition table with it, in which was defined how big the partitions were and which filetype they were in).
So after partitioning my new SD-card, different size and lay-out, my Phone did not want to mount the SD-card...
I tried this before and it didn't work.
I ended up doing a disc to disc copy (image cloning) from my 8gb to 16gb sd and only then it worked.
I used Acronis true image to get the job done.
http://www.hirensbootcd.org/download/
Burn this iso on disc, insert both SD-cards in pc and boot from the hirens boot disc. Then select imaging tools in the menu, select acronis
In acronis you select disk to disk copy or disk cloning and then select source (old SD), then proportional cloning, then select destination (new SD).
Should take about an hour.
If you need help, shout plz.
I will try to make a tutorial when I get home from work, or maybe later.
Grtz!

Hi,
Well not that much.
The class stands for max Mbps write or read spead, can't recall which of them two... so it makes a difference, but not that much.
From 4 to 10 makes much more difference
Grtz!

Thanks~IT's useful to me~
Thanks for this one! I have a class 2 microsd in my t-mobile g2/htc desire z, and I just bought a class 10. Can't wait to give this a go
i decided to make an ext partition on my sd card so i could move over even more application data over to external, however it didn't work to my liking so i decided to get rid of it and just stick with a full FAT partition instead. Except now my 8gig card only shows something like 3gigs and nothing i could find so far in windows or Linux allows me to see the ext partition to format and make FAT again... any ideas?
this was done with and I'm still running clockwork mod
if you have amonRA v2.3 as your recovery, boot to it and then select partition SD card. Place a zero for the SWAP, when promoted, zero for ext2 and the rest for FAT. Make sure to transfer the contents of your card to a computer or external drive before starting this procedure.
Update: I see that you're using CWM. You can select amonRA ( PC36IMG.zip) from my signature, place it on the root of your SD card and boot to the bootloader to install it.
posting & replying via my EVO 4G
I was created two partition on SD card 2x2GB and installed Link2SD-1.8.0
Set Link2SD-1.8.0 to use another partition for data, to save space.
After that, I realized, I dont need 2GB for app, I need 800MB.
OK, then I delete Link2SD-1.8.0.
And on PC with MiniTool Partition Wizard Home Edition, delete all partition and create 1st 3gb and 2nd 800mb. I format all partiton as FAT32.
After that Desire wont read my SD card!
I trying create one partion FAT, FAT32, Unformated... and phone dont read my card.
When I go to Recovery and mount USB, Windows read my SD card, but when trying with Desire mount sd card, he saying card cannot mount...
IMPORTANT PART
I trying another card (from nokia N73) and Desire read it.
If I use Desire SD card to N73, nokia says no SD card.
If I return back N73 card to N73, nokia says no SD card!!!?
If I return again to Andoid, then works, but in nokia no longer!
P.S
I dont have card reader...
From what I gathered from your post you made a mistake which causes the problems you described - you made all partitions FAT32... You should only make the first partition primary and FAT32 and the secondary should be EXT(2,3,4 - variant by your preference)... I'm not familiar with that MiniTool Partition Wizard Home Edition you used but I suspect that it won't do everything you need.... I recommend you reformat your sdcard with sdformatter or gparted (preferably because of alignment ability)... Probably after being formatted in gparted to a single primary partition you will get access to the card. If everything goes well then I'd repartition sdcard to link2sd needs in gparted or in the recovery itself (it probably won't make aligned partitions but to hell with that, they'll work )...
If you are not familiar with gparted search through xda since there are several good tutorials about using it... I use it regularly, i install it to a flash drive (through USBInstaller or Yumi or whatever tool you find) and boot to it, although you can burn it to a bootable cd/dvd just as well...
Hope any of this helped...
I used gparted and now is working! Thanx!
Great thing is gparted!
Hi! I just bought a new phone and now I am trying to format my card (which was and is currently used in the desire) to just a plain fat32 partition since i won't be rooting my new phone (yet).
The problem is, Gparted does not see my laptop's card reader. Card reader does work right in windows.
Next thing I tried was formatting it straight from the phone (as in the noob proof rooting tutorials in htc desire \ development ), but that only showed me 6.5 gb of unallocated space. This is doubly wrong because the 6.g gb partition is fat32, exists and is almost full. The ext4 partition does not show up at all.
Maybe it can be done from ext4 recovery? I tried but didnt see any choice for that.
Any advice is welcome. Thank you very much!
yh use 4ext recovery. just in menu go to tools/partition sdcard then remove all partitions and start from scratch. just press skip on everything and ur sdcard will be back to all fat32.
