Can 2.36.207.16 be downgraded? - Desire HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I've got a DHD from O2 Germany (unbranded, can't see any O2 stuff in it), running 2.36.207.16. GingerBreak simply hangs when doing the magic as per jkoljo's thread [1]. What I want to do is install Revolution HD.
Now, while digging that thread, I found a post complaining about that behavior, but the guy (Ginevra) was running 2.37.x [2]. On the next page, 2 people on 2.36.207 report the same issue.
Is this something known? I got my 2.36.207.16 pretty late OTA, I guess after June 1st.
In case it makes any difference, Win 7 x64, got the Android SDK for 2.2, did some development a few months back; it's not added into PATH (so I'm running the adb jkoljo supplied).
Any ideas?
Edit
According to this German forum [3], 2.36.207.16 is O2. Should I take it the phone is branded?
Shouldn't the gingerbreak procedure work even without a goldcard?

Did it. 2.36.207.11 is O2 and I managed to root it and install Revolution HD.
goldcard - http://www.addictivetips.com/mobile/how-to-make-gold-card-for-htc-desire-hd/
download and install the newest downgrade-able RUU (2.36.405.8), for example from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=824357
I used an EXE image taken from some other place.
follow the ROM guide at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=11557769

wm6 for tmob vario2 uk... which version should I use and how?

Hi guys, I am a serial lurker here for several years.. and finally decided to upgrade my vario 2 to shiny wm6. I have downloaded black 2.5 and wanted to find out it all works great and how to install....
i haven't made any other changes to my vario 2 so want to get this right first time!
I think you need to lurk (and read) a bit longer, this same question has already been asked today!
lol, I read that which sparked an interest in upgrading...
What I wanted to know was which was the "best version" to install and what was the best procedure to follow for tmob uk.. I have seen plenty that mention the usa networks but no instructions specifically for tmob..
I know that a lot of you guys have already done it, so I just wanted to pull at your experience and get a good safe method!!!
Put on the fire proof suit quickly my friend, I think it will get very hot very shortly.
Check the WIKI, look for custom rom upgrading and follow MrVanx's idiot proof guides.
Black 2.5 has a UK TMob version as well. The thread is fairly obvious.....
great thanks for the advice....
I will look for it.... would be handy to have a direct url for any other tmob users that come across this post...
I used vanx
I used vanx's update method to install the hard spl, and now my phone is stuck on the 4 colours and won't go any further......
Can anyone help?
His guide also has a what to do if things go wrong section IIRC?
Also, read all 74 pages of this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=296722
phew I was lucky, I only needed to reset as it was stuck in bootloader. however when I try to instal hard spl it gives me a request to run enterbl.exe which when I run it, resets the device immediately into a boot loader screen (the colors) and doens't update the firmware...
Have you got all the necessary .net framework stuff installed?
Presume you are using XP not Vista.
i'm still using black 2 but will be upgrading to black 2.5 over the next few days when i have time. I'm also on t-mobile uk and although i havn't tried either the standard black2.5 or the t-mobile one, it'll be the standard version I install as i'd rather keep my phone clean from any t-mobile stuff. Thats just me though.
.net framework? I have looked all over and can't see any reference to it.. can you clarify??
edit:sorry am runnig latest 2.0 version

You need .net framework 2. If you havent got it, download from microsoft. You should read MrVanx guide
You will need to wait for one of the gurus to look in then I am afraid - I followed the guide and it all worked for me.....
T-Mobile - UK W'n'W
I've bitten the button and upgraded both my rom and radio and so far so good
Check this thread, it helped me when I was stuck on bootloader:
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Hermes_Unbrick
thanks for the message, however I am back in the os... I think it must be some type of software lock.... does t-mob application lock their devices?
Hi, dont know about t-mobile, but I know Orange uk lock their's. However I followed Mr Vanx's excellent guide on the hermes wiki & have flashed a few times with no problems so far. Currently running Black 2.5 (excellent), with no issues.
I use
t-mob and hermes adn black 2.5. Absolutely great.
haven't bothered with the specific t-mobile flavoured rom, but downloaded a cab file which you won't need which oads the settings for mms and other such "treats" like that.
Have used black since 1.0 and think it's great, and continues to get better.

Authenticity of “Official” WM6 ROM & Step by Step Guide

Can anyone provide these answers before I ever risk installing this:
What are the origins of this "Official" ROM to make it be classed as an "Official" HTC ROM as there is nothing mentioned on HTC support website?
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
1) Also, as a suggestion could the ROM list page (http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index...inity_Upgrades) be updated to reflect the flurry of recent releases of ROMs in the forum over the last few weeks inc. this one?
2) Which of these is the correct one to use on for upgrading from Orange SPV M700 Wm5 as after reading the threads I have: TRIN_WM6.rar, TRIN_WM6_FLASHER.rar, Official_WM6.rar.
3) If there are patches / upgrades required for this e.g. HTC_VideoCallPatch_vX.cab, Microsoft_Office_Mobile_6.1.cab could I suggest they be all be culminated on a special page for this ROM if this is to be the baseline ROM for future developments / tweaks as these files are scattered all over the forum at present.
4) Any chance an experienced flasher could create a "Step by Step Guide" from an Orange SPV M700 Wm5 locked to an WM6 Official install (inc. Orange Settings / Customisations etc.) unlocked that includes creating a ROM backup of your own phone prior to installing, so you can switch back? - I have read the posts / threads and have yet to find a definitive page on all this.
Just a thought..... as it would help novices and cut down posts to relevant questions and not the same old inquiries.
Cheers
Hawk
Yeah we noob need some steb by steb guide(for vista though)
it was stated in the first mention of this rom that the poster wouldn't be answering questions about it.. so there's not much people can tell you about where it came from, etc.
the cabs may or may not be accumulated because there's nothing to suggest that this ROM will be the basis of future developments. The build is older than current WM6 ROMs on this forum.. better read a bit more to get the big picture.
can't tell you which one is the right .rar file to flash, but you won't find a step by step guide. Essentially, go get hard-spl and run the RUU to install it on your phone. Then manually enter the bootloader and while connected via USB run the RUU for the ROM you want to flash.
I don't use vista, so can't say much about the connection problems but there are MANY MANY posts about it, so i suggest you get searching.
happy flashing

Confused - Do I Have All This Right???

I have spent a few hours reading the forums and getting understand things, but one never knows if one really understand things until one summarizes it themselves and asks others to confirm it. So, my situation and summary are below. Do I understand???
I live in South Korea and got the MB525. I like it very much, but I have SK Mobile. The last straw came when they installed even more stuff on my phone (like Korean social network programmes) without my permission, using some form of auto-update even though I had that disabled, and now will not even let me turn off auto update on those programmes. Also had a problem on a trip to Malaysia where the Korean emergency number (119) was the customer service number for Maxis - hence calling customer service got me the fire department!! I am just tired of having so many junk programmes on my phone and not having real control over the phone.
The phone runs 2.1-update1 and I would like to instal a generic version of 2.2 or 2.3 (that is cy7, an unofficial version of 2.3 right). I would like a version that is not country specific, but in English. By doing all this I hope to be able to have complete control over my phone, not have troubles using it internationally (sim is already unlocked but things like emergency numbers being programmed in), and be able to install and uninstall any programmes. I hope that by doing this SK Mobile will not be able to install any of their own software and that I can uninstall anything I do not like. I do not think I need moto-blur (do I???), so a version without that is better, I think.
While new to phone technology, I am good with computers and have my own web site, so I think I have the ability to do the upgrade per the 'All in one Defy Beginners guide' (Serious thanks for that). I'm sure I can figure out how to flash it properly, so no worries there.
My first question is what version/package would others recommend so that I have an English version that works internationally / meets my requirements. My second question is do I understand thing right above and am I on track, and my third question is what am I not thinking of?
Thanks a lot, and sorry for such a long post but too much is new all at once.
TME
haha... yes CM7.1/MIUI or pretty much the other roms wont give you any trouble using it internationally, and yes if you install cm7.1 they(SK mobile) wont be able to 'update' your phone... and yes just follow the guides carefully and your good to go... Good Luck
Since your phone is for SK, then I'm sure that most of the ROMs in here won't have no problem with your Defy.
I suggest CM7 for the function, and MIUI for the theme lovers.
DeBlur is absolutely, since that function just make troubles instead of goodies. Emergency Calling ? Um... not tried editting yet.
OK, thanks for the help above
But, next question. My phone runs 2.1 - update 1, but is I think Eclair version. I bought it in Dec, 2010. I have decided my first step is to upgrade to 2.2 and see how that goes.
But from the how to guide the bit below is very confusing:
CG Version 2: SBF 2.21 / 2.34 / Chinese (Éclair)
CG Version 3: SBF 2.51 (Éclair)
CG Version 4: SBF 3.4.2 (Froyo)
CG Version 5: SBF 4.5.0 / 4.5.1 (Gingerbread)
How do I relate version numbers listed on my phone (2.1) to the list above? I assume I want 3.4.2 but how can I understand version numbers so i do not make a mistake?
As my goal is to upgrade to a version that I can downgrade to 2.1 if needed for warranty reasons, I need a fixed SBF for Froyo. Can anyone give me a specific link to such a SBF version?
Thanks and sorry for all the questions. The learning curve is a bit steep.

Why don't you upgrade from official site.....
can you provide link to the guide you mentioned...
Root your phone (using superoneclick), install 2nd init, after that just flash CM7.1, no need to worry about sbf for CM7, although there is a recommended base ROM, im using it just fine flashing it over my original rom... dont know about others though...

[Q] Unlocking/re-flashing from Orange UK stock android 2.3.5

All, Getting really tired of the un-installable carrier bloatware, apps like Facebook that that never close and not required etc. Before my DHD I used to re-flash my HTC Touch Pro weekly, but it seems the process isn't quite so simple nowadays.
Now please, before I say another word, do not flame me. I am not writing this request for help to be lazy, I've been reading various how-to's all afternoon and there is so much information to assimilate and what if variables, command shells etc I am scared to death of missing something or mis-understanding. Especially around issues if I've done OTA upgrades from Froyo to Gingerbread, which I have.
So please community, sincerely, could someone offer a few tips to cover my back so I'm not back here again tomorrow nursing a bricked handset
Here is my current software info :
Orange UK Stock
Android 2.3.5
Sense 3.0
Software 3.13.61.5
Kernal 2.6.35.10-g931a37e
[email protected] #1
Wed Nov 9 14:04:03 CST 2011
Baseband 12.65.60.29U_26.14.04.28_M
Build 3.13.61.5 CL228058 release-keys
Browser Webkit/533.1
The phone itself has Orange hardware branding as do all Orange UK sourced handsets. If I remember correctly the phone shipped with Orange stock Froyo, then an OTA patch, then major update to Gingerbread and then an OTA GPS patch. Whether there were any anti-exploit bootloader fixes tucked in there I do not know.
Have I followed things correctly - that the Advanced Hack Kit will cover all angles and take care of this for me without downgrading etc? Is this correct? Any gotcha's or additonal process steps?
Thank you very much!
Personally I recommend using the HTC Dev official bootloader unlock, it'll give you an open bootloader and you can go right ahead and root your stock ROM or flash any custom DHD ROM you like. It's quite an easy process but you might need to update your HBOOT and HTC's process for that requires Windows, everything else can be done on OS X or Linux as well though (not sure what OS you use, just covering all the angles).
Edit: forgot I was in the DHD forums, bootloader unlocking has limitations, ignore this if you want to use ported ROMs etc, sorry!
Thanks anyway Hexgore.
Well my patience (or lack of) got the better of me so I went ahead and let AAHK do its stuff. What an awesome tool. Followed the instructions to the letter and it worked beautifully, including the auto-downgrade process which I was kind of dreading.
So anyone else on the same stock, go right ahead and I hope it goes as smoothly as mine. IceColdSandwich here I come
I agree AAHK is a brilliant piece of well written piece of code that many people will find useful or have found useful. Personally I think its the easiest way to root and S-OFF for the device. Flash CM7, install SetCPU, install the ICS theme for CM7 and you have perfection! Runs like butter down your chin on my UNDERCLOCKED DHD

[Q] Only want bloatware gone!?!

Hi!
Got a new desire hd A9191 after I smashed the screen on my old one
I know its now an old phone model but decided on another dhd as theyre more than good enough for me
I got the first one 3-4 years ago, upgraded to a Samsung galaxy s3 when my contract ran out 18 months later but really didnt like the s3 compared to my dhd (believe it or not!) so sold the s3 and stuck with my dhd
Anyways...
What id like to do is to get rid of the bloatware that comes with a new phone
Ive looked through a load of threads but they are either outdated, not supported anymore, have dead links (probably due to the age of the phone (and my question!)) or are more about flashing a custom rom
Also some of what ive read is well beyond my understanding and I don't want to be starting yet another "help me ive messed my phone up" thread!
What I do understand is that to delete stock apps I need root access to my dhd
There are apps on the app store that easily delete stock apps but you need root access for them to work
So could someone please tell me either an up to date tool to use or an up to date thread to follow that will get my dhd rooted
Am looking at the VISIONary tool at the mo due to the software version im running (see below) as per
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=841076
Was just going to do step one and use the VISIONary tool to root my dhd and not worry about step 2 and 3 Is this any good?!?
Some details...
android version 2.2
baseband version 12.28b.60.140eU_26.03.02.26_M
kernel version 2.6.32.21-gf3f553d [email protected]#1 Thurs Oct 28 13:24:11 CST 2010
build number 1.32.405.6 CL278359 release-keys
software number 1.32.405.6
browser version WebKit 3.1
My dhd is in brand new out the box condition
Ive not done any updates or downloaded any apps yet
Many thanks for reading!!

Hi bananagranola
Thank you for your reply
This is one of the tools I looked at but support has been stopped and didnt think it would work for my dhd after reading this (im on froyo 2.2)
glevitan:
First Line in the warning...this Is just for stock devices. Will only work in gb because froyo will not allow to unlock the bootloader....
Do I need to update to gb before using the easy ace tool?!?
Many thanks
Matt
Yes, you will need to run a RUU.
Ive connected my dhd to my broadband and had the 2.3.5 update pop up so will run that and then go through the ace root tool
Thanks for taking the time to reply again!
Matt
