We need more information before we can help.
1. Which country you are in.
2. Branded or Unbranded handset and network?
3. Software info from Settings>About phone>Software information.

You have an orange branded phone I am afraid. HTC's 2.3.3 update is not going to come to you unless Orange releases it (like vodafone).
There is another way around it, but it involves rooting, custom recovery and flashing a custom Rom.
is there anywhere in the uk you can take your phone to get this done as I dont have a clue about it

Rooting etc voids your warranty and you need to research a bit before doing it. And as far as I know there is no official way of doing it.
You can try contacting Orange and see if they have an ETA for the update.

Hello,
Need some help.
Unbranded my desire today which went well. It asked me if I wanted to update the software OTA which I clicked yes to. This is where it all went wrong, phone now comes up with Network locked unlock sim.
Can anyone help me get round this, I read a thread a couple of days ago where someone had the same problem but I can't for the life of me find it. Any help would be very appreciated.
Thanks in advance.
Hi there mate. I dont know the answer to your problem but can say that no one else has ever posted that exact error. Can you confirm the EXACT wording of the error and and numbers it may throw. If its already correct (including any punctuation) it seems you have a very unique problem.

It may not have been here but I think it was.
Basically it was a branded Orange Desire.
After much reading I decided that I wanted to get of all the Orange stuff that comes bundled and cannot be removed.
I followed a guide to de-brand the phone which worked perfectly. When I first turned the phone on and checked the software update it said 1 update was available, I chose to download and install the update. When I checked the phone version it was 2.1update 1 (I think).
Turned the phone off and on again and went back into the software update and was offered another update which I assumed was Froyo, chose to download and install that via wifi. Everything seemed to work but when the phone rebooted it came up with the following message "SIM network unlock PIN" there is no other error code and it wants an 8 digit code.
Called Orange and played dumb and they said that they would send me a new phone but I've told them to hold off for now.
Thank in advance.
Hmmm looks like you may have flashed a Branded ROM for another provider which I didn't thik had any effect on provider locks. But in the lack of help from anywhere else you could always try this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=748105 which is what I did on my Virgin Mobile UK Branded and locked phone. SOrry I cant help further
You could buy an unlock code online..That should sort it.
It looks like your using an incompatible radio. Which version are you using? To find out go to settings - about phone then it should be baseband version?

No can do, can't get into the phone at all.
I'm trying to install the Froyo update from the SD card as posted by jamesmcuk, currently installing so I'll post back what happens.

Wanted to post back, thanks for the great advice. Hope this thread cones in useful for someone else.
Got a fully up to date Droid, didn't have to pay Orange for the Network unlock code either lol
really pleased mate well done! Its scary **** when you may have to pay out for the bugger lol
good advice in this thread
Got it up and running yet?
If not, take the SIM out and find the software version in settings. If it's something like:
x.xx.405.x
then you have an unbranded ROM which most people have had issues with with Orange phones. You could try updating to Froyo if the OTA update is still available as that should flash a working radio or just buy an unlock code for about a tenner that would be best in the long run.
Just to let you know that the latest radio is compatible with orange (I have it) its 5.09.00.20. Shouldn't sim lock your phone. Good luck. Hope you get it sorted.

This post says that he sorted it.
i am sure its an incorrect radio take your sim out and you should have access , i ended up rooting the device using revoke one click method very easy just follow carfully then i installed a custom rom and a new radio
this is the orange one for bootloader 0.75 "update-bravo-radio-32.30.00.28U_4.05.00.11-signed" all working great the rom i used was "Official_FroYo_Market_fixed"
hope this helps actually just upgraded radio to 5.09 with no problem
Yeah got this sorted peeps.
Didn't mess around looking up radio's or anything like that.
This is what happened to me.
1. Debranded Orange Desire from 2.1update1 to Generic 2.1
2. Upgraded OTA from Generic 2.1 to 2.1update1
3. Was offered and accepted update to Froyo
4. Got error saying SIM locked unlock sim
5. Put Froyo ROM onto SD card and loaded it via recovery
6. Enjoyed having the last laugh over Orange technical support
Thank you to jamesmcuk who's post (I think it was 4 or 5) resolved my problem, would suggest the same process to anyone else who had the same problem that I had.
On another note, how do I check what radio version I have and if it's upto date?

Same one I'm runnin'
I can't get a GPS fix so it needs to go back for repair. Previoulsy I have rooted it with unrevoked.
Tonight, i made a gold card and flashed it with a T-Mobile rom i downloaded, which went swimmingly.
Is this all I need to do so they don't know it was rooted?
Yes!!!!!!!!!!
You wouldn't have needed the gold card to flash the T-Mobile RUU, which ROM were you originally on when you got the phone?
A tmobile rom was on the phone, but i'd ran unrevoked so I needed to get rid of that. I tried without a gold card but was getting errors like customer id, but the gold card got round that.
Goldcard always wins
Then you weren't on a T-Mobile ROM originally if you needed a gold card to flash it
A gold card is ONLY needed to flash a ROM different to the original build number, it should NOT be needed to flash a branded ROM if your phone was branded so sounds like you went through the issue for nothing

Very true but as long as he has managed to flash a branded ROM with it i don't think T-Mobile will be able to tell the difference
They can if they check the IMEI and see it wasn't a T-Mobile handset

Certainly if that's what he's trying to do. But if that were the case then he would have to show them contract details or a receipt before getting a repair anyway. It is however possible that he bought a legitimate un-branded phone from T-Mobile and therefore flashing the ROM to a T-mobile one won't make them look twice.
Not true, if that was the case I could send my unbranded one back to Vodafone for repair. They'd send it back saying 'not one of ours, off to HTC you go' which is what T-Mobile might also do

I hear what you are saying. I personally have never done it but have read on here that some people have not managed to flash back to an RUU for their carrier without using a goldcard ( not saying it has to be used maybe they did something wrong with the first flash and the goldcard did it right for them) iv'e also read that some have problems as the newer ROM they have on their phone won't allow them to flash to an older stock RUU and the goldcard has allowed them to do this.
Again only going off what i have read here
I'm just trying to make the OP aware that although it shouldn't be a problem it might be

Main reason why I always get unbranded handsets - deal with the manufacturer direct!

Hi - I'm in the UK and have bought two One X's from Amazon. The first is fine, the second isn't (it was bought in the Amazon Warehouse and is pre-owned but "as-new").
1 The first phone found the 1.28 update immediately on setup after connecting to wi-fi. The second won't update, even after doing a manual check and is still on 1.26.401.2. From what I've read if the phone is "unbranded"/not originally locked to any provider it should be ready for the update. How do I check this?
2 The LED on the second is tiny - it's the size of the end of a pin whereas the other phone has a much bigger, more visible light.
Thanks in advance for any questions. I have searched for similar problems but came up with nothing (sorry if I missed answers that are already posted on here or elsewhere)
1. Flash the 1.29 RUU - job done!
2. Can't say I've noticed this but you could be right
Thanks, but I'm hoping not to flash this device. Is there any was of checking if the phone is tied to a provider or why it doesn't want to update to 1.28?
If it's running x.xx.401.x then it's an unbranded handset so flashing the RUU won't affect anything with regards to warranty as it's the official ROM file. OK, it means wiping the phone but at least you're up-to-date!

Ok, thanks again. I was really hoping to figure out what the problem is here so I understand how the updating works - if you say I do infact have an unbranded handset, I don't understand why it won't update. Does the update server go down occupationally or does it just mean I have an issue with the handset itself?
Hello There fellow pro XDA Users i am in pretty desperate need of knowing if my Device is original or not, so please!!! help me :crying:
i have bought a new HTC One X 2 days ago from an authorized Dealer here in Bangladesh(they said themselves as authorized even though i have not found any info of them on htc web )
Anyways i bought the device checked all the things needed from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1923016
and they all seemed okay so i was fine and bought it
But after trying to root my device and opening bootloader i WAS SHOCKED that my DEVICE IS ALREADY Unlocked!!!WHY???
Also The Device seems to be from Switzerland ORANGE as my CID is ORANG216
also i am getting pretty big lag spikes when playing dead trigger and gangstar rio is it because my device is FAKE?????
also because of staying out of htc service i cannot recive OTA updates so i tried to manual OTA from here that matches my CID http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1606676
and thats when i found my problem
i have attachted my bootloader image and clockworkmod image please see them
also my software info
PLEASE HELP me so i can atleast try to get a refund
:crying:
From what i have been told earlier some dealers root the phone because of missing local languages in the software. Don't know exactly who or what, but that's my experience with an older case i read about a while ago. That guy told me that it was pretty normal......i just find it strange !
The only thing you must check is what kind of warranty you are entitled to. Because HTC will now no longer support software problems on the phone. Only real hardware problems will fall under warranty. But that's also sometimes a what grey area.
We can get you back to full stock and updated to Jellybean if you wish ?
Edit : its imported from Switzerland ? Then they did this to add languages indeed.
Are you on orange provider too ???
Even my device is imported (Sealed) from Australia.. I'm from India.. So I don't have HTC warranty...
However, I have ebay seller warranty and he has said he will replace the device with no questions asked in case of hardware failure...
So, in your case as well... I think it's pretty much the same thing?? You don't have HTC warranty... but dealer warranty... You should have clarified this with your dealer...

firstly no i am in no way in orange i am in GP(local SP here)and i also dont know if it WAS ported from swiss
so umm does that mean that the device is not fake i mean its just weird that an intact device(they cut the HTC poly and seal in front of myself) has unlocked bootloader
also about the warrenty yes i clarified it with the dealer they said that there is no replacement warrenty but if any problem does come up in a year (hardware or software) they will fix it so does that mean i don't need to get refund...what do you guys think?
also there are other strange things in my phone for example the phone CID is orang216 so it should display switzerland in its region but instead its displaying arabic and saying that the device is htc_ara (via app device info)
also the dealer used a special steel tool to cut my mini sim into micro with one press lol(machine looked kinda odd )
also if your talking about localization then there is arabic fonts installed here but not our country language though
also did you notice my boot radio is none ????there was supposed to be something written on it huh?
SO my final guess is that the dealer himself imported it from arab htc and its selling here though why does it have an swiss CID instead of arab?
so i am the only one with out of the box unlocked bootloader version here???? AND also it means that HTC NOW won't care about my device huh??? :crying:
AND LASTLY since my bootloader is already unlocked do you think its best to directly switch to a custom JB rom then the OTA JB??? and if i do wanna switch to custom rom can give me tutorial from beginner level and all the precautions i have to take? (is it even possible for me to go to a custom JB from my stock ics and old 0.95 bootloader??)
MAN I NEVER SHOULDA BOUGHT HTC IN THE FIRST PLACE :crying: :crying:
A lot of people do buy unlocked HOXs, what you could do is relock it if its really bothering you. Run the correct RUU, from fast boot, and it will relock your phone and give the original software etc
Sent from my HTC One X TEGRA 3 using xda premium
Using CM10.1
yes after a while now and a lot of research i gound out it is common also the no radio was a problem with my hboot 0.95(its normal)
thanks for all the help this question is closed
Please mods close this thread
Wouldn't be complaining, saved you time. Also some have soft bricked thier phones in attempting to unlock.

He has successfully updated his Hboot and has ARHD running now! He had created multiple threads.... so this can be locked!
Ahhh great.
Glad he's all sorted another one ticked off the list.
RUU is easiest HBOOT update method for anyone who happens to come across this thread with same issue.

You could always relock your bootloader, install the stock ROM and get OTA updates...
And upgrade the HBOOT Please -.- even mine's already 1.36 :silly:
But still that's a surprise you get new One X with unlocked bootloader
You still can get dealer's warranty though...

True that!
However, for a person who is new to the world of rooting/upgrading and stuff and finds out his phone has been tampered with, it can be really frustrating!
Nwys, forum rules come before that! So.....
I got a new Arc S phone and was told by the seller the OS cannot be changed? Does it mean that you can't upgrade android version to 3 or 4? I never heard this before. Anyway with knowledge on this pls let me know! Perhaps the seller does not know the phone can be rooted! I found out that not all updates are avaliable for the Arc S if they come from different countries.
I found out you need to flash it! Oh dear. Can anyone let me know if this is the right way of doing it? Flashing your phone to install android 4.0 on the phone? Will it just erase your phone so there are not icons etc? Thanks!

You can upgrade Android to ICS but you can't run another OS such as Windows Mobile on Arc S. The seller may not have made himself clear about this issue.
If you are new to this, just use Sony Update Service and follow the instructions on screen. If you have some knowledge about flashing then you can use Emma or flashtool to flash a ftf file. Note that both methods will wipe you personal data so don't forget to backup your data before flashing.

Thanks for replying..I spoke to a representative and they told me too not all countries release updates for the phone! That is very strange! It also told me on my phone that I got the latest software android 2. Won't update anymore.
I have not got an SD card but i will and will try out the sony site to see if it work and then flash if I can't get update from sony site..
So I think I figure it out and I know how to flash too. Thanks!
Yes thanks for telling me I can run windows on it.
Sony releases updates, however operators can limit it. If phone does have branded firmware (firmware, which includes operator side stuff), then you will only receive updates, that operator allows and not Sony global ones.
Also, do not believe everything the sellers say. I have heard all kinds of crap from them, most of it being false.
