I don't know if this is the correct subforum... if not, mods please transfer.
Anyway... As many of you probably did, I have had many phones. The thing is that with my previous devices, the desire for them got lost in like a week after I purchased the device. But with the HTC Desire, I have kinda different feeling. I mean, I purchased my Desire like a month now, and I am not a bit bored by it. It still looks fun to me, and I still find interesting things to do with it. So, what is your opinions about this? How long did you enjoyed your new "shiny" device, and for how long you have been (are) enjoying the Desire?
I know for me the fact I can mould the phone how I want has played a huge part in keeping me interested. I usually upgrade to nokia E class phone, the E71 was my last phone, but coming from a linux fanboy the Desire feels like -my- phone just like my laptop is moulded exactly how I want it.
The fact its the first phone I've owned that has yet to struggle with anything I throw at it helps a huge amount too

Longer then the HTC HD2, BlackBerry Bold
This device is amazing indeed. I still have moments that I look at it and think... wow And soon Froyo will come, which will give you another few weeks of 'new enjoyment'. Also I still hope that the Android Market is going to start filling with great quality apps soon :0) Angry Birds this summer is a must have game.
And in Q4, Android 3 may be released and we can start enjoying that. (probably not from HTC, but from XDA) There is lots going on in the Android World!

I'm pretty much bored with it as I get with any phone once you do all with it you wanted. It becomes just another phone. The only difference with this one is that I'm hell angry on HTC for there build quality in general which covers everything from the poor UMTS reception to the stupid body design with button back light shining through micro holes under the screen.

Been happy with my HTC phones since I opened up a box of Magics and knew I was buying one by the end of the day. I've now had a Magic, a Hero and now my Desire and I always find something new to do or try out every week and that's without having rooted the phone. Before this I've had a S.E. W950 and after an E71 and while I've had my Hero I've had an iPhone and I've got to say that the iPhone has nothing on the overall features and abilities of even my Hero.

so I pretty much decided I'm getting the HTC Desire over the Nexus one, but now with the Desire HD's release about 1 month away I'm debating whether or not to wait.
To be honest I'm in love with the HD's huge screen and looks, but looks alone don't cut it for me. I plan to jump on board the modding/rooting community as soon as I can (just starting out atm) and the Desire is the better choice when it comes to that since its been rooted and messed around with already.
I just worry that I will have to wait a very long time for the Desire HD to be rooted successfully, or it will turnout to be hard to hack and play with like the Nexus one and Desire as I want to try my hand at some hacking myself.
what do you think I should do?
Thanks in advance
EDIT: ok thanks everyone for the replies, I've pretty much decided to go with the Desire. I need a phone I can play around with right away so the Desire would be the better choice. Maybe in the near future when I need a new phone android phones will be more out of the box hacker friendly (hints @ HTC)
If I were you I'd take the HD, but after hTC's stunt with the T-Mobile G2, I'm not so sure at all. If you really want to customise your phone properly, then your best bet would be the Desire.
I'm after the HD now, as i'm a phone whore. So if you want a Desire £230 if you fancy it, unbranded, used but never damaged. Screen mint, phone mint. PM if your interested.

Desire!
definetly a Desire. A guy at work got one today and i was well jelous until i saw it in the flesh.
The screen is bigger but the resolution isnt much higher than the desire resulting in a big average screen.
Obviously the cloud features are a benifit but no doublt a custom rom will turn up with them on sooner or later.
Aye. supposedly we're going to get the HD sense package for our desires in December too! w00t.

Hey, what do you mean by Free of Market Restrictions? (sorry for going offtopic)
I have a Desire and wanted a Desire HD. Until I noticed, it's not the hardware I want. It's the software.
I think the design of the Desire is better.
I also like the physical buttons more. (My mom got a Wildfire, I had using it cause I always accidently hit the capatative buttons).
I think the size is perfect. Sometimes I feel like I wouldn't mind if the Desire was bigger. At other times when using with 1 hand, I find it a bit big.
It's the nw HTC Sense that I noticed I REALLY want. And I'm gonna get that anyway. Officially or modded.

oh yeah, i heard that this feature was on the motorola Droid, had no idea HTC did that same thing to the G2. While the phone will most likely be sold here unbranded and unlocked, since I got Legend which was exclusively sold by vodaphone unbranded and unlocked, i think it will most likely be a built-in hardware feature regardless of whether or not its exclusive to a certain carrier. that seems to be the on going trend right now with HTC and other manufacturers.
___
at the moment the Desire seems to be the better choice for me, i was considering the HD version based purely on physical looks. after seeing the HD2 in person i loved the huge screen and i thought the Desire HD will be like a buffed up android version of the HD2. i know the Desire will eventually get the updated Sense UI so i have no worries regarding the software.
As for the camera, 5MP is good enough for me when i want to take pictures on the go, otherwise i bring along a real camera with me. I don't think phone cameras are good enough to replace an actual camera just yet.

I want to jump on the band wagon here cos im in the same boat, and this thread has thrown a spanner in the works!!
Ive currently got a rooted hero but lack the power from a 1ghz amongst other things....ive played in length with the Desire and genuinely love it, but its knocking on a bit now so am tempted to hold out for the Desire HD as the price is only £100 diff.
What are we saying about the new HD ? Is it likely to going to be a ball ache to do what the desire already does well.....dont get me wrong ill wait for the dev work to catch up but obviously if theres **** hard coded designed to prevent rooting is it gonna be worth it?
also im going unbranded this time....if that makes a difference (aside from the obvious lack of network restrictions!)
I'd suggest wait till the community has successfully rooted the HD, then decide
aww I was gonna go buy the Desire tomorrow, now I can't decide again haha
I can call HTC's distributor here and ask them when exactly the device will release here and how much it will be for. When i was comparing between the Nexus and Desire the price was almost the same but now there is obviously going to be a significant price difference.
I guess for me now it all comes down to the price and customization ability.
I've checked the Desire HD's forums and there seems to be a temporary root solution for it at the moment. Looks like they are still working on it.

Usually keep track of the forum, guess I missed this. My bad.
I am getting the Samsung Galaxy S2. No sensation for me. HTC is great and all but I really want some great hardware. Support might be bad but you never know what you'll get until you get one. I use to a be iphone person and all i heard was bad android was. Then I moved over and realize Android rocks other than crappy games apps (only useful in class during lectures in college).
Also HTC always tend to cheap out on cameras speakers and battery.

You'll live to regret it, I would know as I'm coming from a samsung epic 4g and I hated that samsung takes forever to update there handsets plus dev is slow. The epic doesn't even have a fully working cm6 or cm7!
Should i buy the Desire? It's pretty cheap, i haven't got much money, and i need a decent phone? I currently have a LG Optimus One, but i need something a bit more exquisite. Will i notice any performance difference? Oh and i was thinking of a Nexus One as well, but i've been comparing these two and the Desire seems to win!
It may be 2 years old but it has a great fanbase with a great selection of custom roms. I am due for renewal in April but I seriously cannot see anything that justifies me to commiting myself to another 18 month contract just yet, that's how good this phone is. It really is holding its own even now and I would without hesitation say go for it. If you get one second hand then just check the hardware buttons to make sure they work (my volume down button is starting to need a hard press to work) and if you get an unrooted one then you have got all the rooting stuff to enjoy as well I would get this over the Nexus One, in fact I spent a week putting phone against phone and eliminating them one by one when I first got my Desire. A cracking phone even now.

He seems to favour the HTC Legend a bit more. Is it any better than the Desire? The con of the Legend is not a con now, i think i could get it for the same price as the Desire.
Thanks for the helpful review haha!
EDIT*
Nevermind, the screen is way smaller, i'm going with the Desire, since i want a bigger screen.
I just bought a Desire for similar reasons, I had come from a ZTE Blade. It is a great phone and I am very happy with it.

desire for sure
if you cant spend the money to buy desire s or desire hd, then its htc desire for sure
and htc legend doesnt even come close to htc desire
and with the great devs at xda, you'll always have something to do with your desire

I cannot afford a Desire HD or S unfortunately, so i am going for the Desire, thanks for the help!
I want to buy my wife a new phone and this is the list i came up whit:
LG Optimus 4X HD P880
LG Optimus L9 P768
Nexus 4
Galaxy s3
Huawei Ascend P2
Huawei Ascend d2
Sony Xperia SP
Sony Xperia T
HTC One X
She doesn't care much for updates but it should at least have ICS or Jellybean , the reason i am writing in the HTC One X forum is because she really likes how HTC One X looks and i want your opinions because i read many bad things about the phone like Wifi and signal hardware bug and screen yellow marks , overheating etc .... So does HOX new batch have the same issues and should i buy HOX or look for another phone?
Sorry for my english and thanks in advance.

I wouldn't call it overheating... Just like I wouldn't call my gaming pc overheating at 100 degrees celcius.
It's just normal (hot) operating temperature
There are gain and lose on every brands, for me HOX is good enough as can be nettled, rooting, modding ,flasing roms frequently and it's still alive, it's a hard one!!!!!
if she really likes the design of the hox she should get it...she doesn't really care about updates and with latest sense 5 there is much improved...wifi hardware problems are only existing in older phones so the newer one which you would buy won't have it anymore...and with sense 5 heat is nearly gone

Three weeks ago I had same question as you, when was search for good phone for my gf.
Xperia L and SP? I heard too much complain about poor camera quality.
LG? no more LG in my house. I lose too much nervous because of dying LG's lcd's, tv's and cd/dvd recorders after 2-3 months.
I choose brand new Galaxy s3 (advantages of hox: additional memory card and easy replacing battery) but it was gone after 2 weeks because of micro cracks appear on sides of case. Phone was used very carefully in rubber case. S3 was replaced with international 16gb HOX Sense5 and she is happy with it.
I own 32gb international HOX more than a year and only issues I had with that phone was related to testing not stable rom/kernel.
I put it in my trousers pocket without any protection case it still working without marks of cracking, no crackle case. Only camera lenses has tiny marks but I figure out how to make them dissapear. My next phone will have one part case like HOX - thats sure.
None of my or my gf HOX has issues you mention above.

its a developer forum, if you have a problem with your phone or wish to modify the software I, and many others, will be more than willing to help.
If you think about it, you are posting in the one x forum so you are hardly gonna get impartial reviews. If you asked me my opinion I would say it was the best phone I ever owned and the majority of users would say the same, and history says that is true, it's really in your best interests to go look at some review sites and decide for yourself.
