Can i get my good camera back?
This happens when the lens cover is scratched. I am sure someone else had posted this as well a few months back, and, this is sure to happen, seeing how stupidly the camera lens protrudes outwards on the Wildfire (and other HTC's) instead of inwards as in other phones.
Anyway, try cleaning the lens protector yourself, or get it professionally cleaned (which can remove the scratches also somewhat)
I have the same issue since I flashed from original.

yes my cameras protector is scratched. i want my camera back. it cannot be cleaned, its scratched.
It's obvious then, isnt it? The camera is not a software module which you can "get back" as and when you want. My reply remains the same, try a professional cleaner, else, return it for repairs or replacement of the lens cover.
Good Luck
i dont think somebody could have it for replacement. and how could you clean then it screached? maybe i dont know, tell me.
Just Google "Remove Scratches from Glass" or "Remove Scratches from Camera Lens". You will get a ton of info.
EDIT: Specifically for the Wildfire:

i had the same problem. Took it to the HTC sevice center. They asked me to change the camera housing, which would cost around 800 Rupees, (approx 18USD).
Luckily they dint have any stock at the time and asked me to visit them again.
At home i sprayed some liquid cleaner, cleaned the glass and voila, it was back to normal. Same picture quality. There, i saved my 800 bucks.
I have the same problem, when i upgrade to other roms,,its looks like blur,,,not nice,,,i think the camera is bad quality,,,,,
then i try to use soft tissue and put a bit water and rub the camera lens,,and i also upgrade to Joker 4,2 rom,,,now it looks muc much better,,i dont know is it because i clean the lens or because of the ROM.
hit thanks by mistake.
i am sure its because u cleaned the lens. Nothing to do with the rom.
So these Joiker and DK roms are stocks + some addons? that means camera is like the original 2.2 fryo? and 2.2 is the same camera like 2.1, or 2.1 has a better?
And how to move to original 2.1 rom with ability to move back to 2.3 or 2.2 again without problems. I want to try my camera with original 2.1 like i bought a phone.
I dont think there are any differences between the Stock HTC camera app of 2.1 and 2.2. Yes, both ROMs mentioned above use the Stock HTC Camera App if I am not mistaken.
To go back to your 2.1 ROM, do a Nandroid restore (Preferable, but only if you had taken one) or run an Eclair RUU (May be cumbersome).
But seriously, I dont think no ROM has that bad a camera app built into it. Its clearly related to hardware.
Ok,ill try to clean.

My t-mobile mda iii seems to have managed to get some gunk behind the camera lens cover - is this an easy thing to open up and clean, or should i just take it back and get it changed? only thing is that its now running B&B v4.0, would t-mobile take it in that condition?
Cheers
You will definitely want to flash it back to original state...I reall doubt T mobile will show you any consideration if you have altered the phone in ANY way.
The camera lense is easy to access
Download this and see:

Awesome - damn fine masked marauder
Ah damn, spoke too soon.
I got the cover off easily, but it looks like the outside of the actual lens is discoloured - if i angle it and look at the reflected light, the centre of the lens is a slightly different colour than the edges, and looking through it is slightly opaque.
I cant seem to find anything that cleans it, so it might be ruined - is there a replacement part somewhere or a better cleaner, i can't seem to find much on google.
i have attached a picture i just took... it looks kinda infared,.. kinda with the colors blurried... front works perfectly. running baked snack but this also did the same thing on fresh rom.
i dont see the picture!!! lol
lol just fixed it
hmmm, I was trying to recreate the problem on my phone. It almost looks like a low light shot? Have you tried in other areas of the house with different lighting?
By the way, is that spatula part of your tools or cooking utensils
Edit, also have you made sure your lens is clean and all that?

yeah it's all clean, if you could see the picture on the phone... it looks like 1 of those weak heat showing cameras... where theres red, yellow, orange and then coolest is blue. i dunno wtf it is. i did just get the invisible shield put on it yesterday... but its not covering the lens
lol, you dont have one of the camera effects on do you? while in camera press menu and select the paint pallet thing
there is a clear difference from the front camera to the back camera is the problem. no effects. normal.
hmmm, I said that because when I was messing with mine, the solarize option made it look like the photo you took, different colors depending on light intensity. Maybe try toggling it on and off just to see. Other than that though, I have no clue so I am sorry I could not help!!!
i'm thinking about taking it into best buy and having it checked out, should i flash it back to stock with the RUU before i do so? i can just see one of the geeksquad retards saying "oh it's because you've rooted it" or some BS like that
To be safe I would. Most people say, and I believe, that hardly anyone would notice but I'm paranoid like that. Plus doing an ruu will ensure it wasn't something during the rooting or flashing process.
i have wiped cache, delvic etc.. etc... reset to default settings. still doesn't matter, doesn't matter what rom i use etc.. i am going to flash back to stock and see... i never looked at the camera on stock heh
im thinking the problem is with the invisible shield u installed, it looks like the solvent that comes for the shield might have sipped through the glass covering the lens and gotten directly on the lens itself.
Any recommendations if indeed this could be a culprit? i am assuming the glass on top of the camera just doesn't come off...
i cant think of any solution off the top of my head..i'll try poking around my phone to see if i can find any way around it for you
That picture looks creepy though. Like something from Saw, perhaps.
No you just got the only thermal imaging HTC evo made.... ill buy it.,jk

sorry for bumpin an old thread. but this happened to me tonight. would sprint give me new phone under warranty?
I'd just unroot if rooted, being it to your local corporate store, and they should replace it under HTC warranty

I'm having problems with my camera on MIUI too. It either isn't recognized or just force closes. sucks real bad.
The camera is broken, you'll have to unroot, and take it to sprint, or live with it.
Whenever I take photos with my desire, they come out a little blurry. Yesterday I tired it without the back case of the phone on and its much sharper! No matter how much I clean the lens cover it always appears smudged!
Does anyone find the same, and is there any way round/to clean it?

Yes the lens cover is crap, see this thread:

I just got a HTC Touch Pro 2 (Sprint) and really love it, but one thing that bothers me is the camera.
When I try to take pictures, the picture is VERY blurry and grainy, am I doing something wrong? I tried all of the resolutions and they are all the same. Not to mention, the camera kind of lags when I'm trying to take a picture...
Any suggestions?
Gotta have good lighting ...

Ive noticed sometimes if you take off the back cover and clean the lens on both the back piece and the acctual camera it can make a huge difference. I dont know how long youve had it but if its been awhile, that might help...
The camera is not too good. However it does take decent picuteres if you makesure the lens cover is clean on the outside and inside. some people have suggested removing the plastic piece altogether. there are a whole bunch of threads about it.
What you describe is bad background light. You have some light profiles, so try them. The camera doesnt have much resolution, flash light is absent, but still its more sensible than a nokia from that era.
The lens cover on the back will get scratched and it really makes for some bad pix.
I have a post about this a long while back.
But anyways, take battery cover off and try to take a pic and see how it looks. If you see a improvement buy a new battery cover. Or just the lens cover out of the battery cover. That's what I usually end up doing on all my phones. Sure the real camera lens may gets dust but its glass and its reccessed enough to not get scratched.
Try this and report back

You guys got me scratching my head My plastic cover has a hole where the lens looks through so taking it off provides no improvement at all!
i think it takes bad pictures.
Sprint HTC Touch Pro2 Camera
I agree.. My phone used to take pretty decent pictures.. It seems like the more
I have tweeked my .reg files the worse it has gotten over time. I tell the hubby
this all the time. Taking the back off doent help.. my pictures look out of focus
and oblong. I think it is from one of the tweeks.

jesus, no wonder my pictures stink. i took the back cover off, looked through the plastic peice covering the lense and it is a fog. anyone know if i can get a new back cover? or somehow remove the plastic covering? htc tp2 tmobile.
This camera is a shame for this kind of phone!
But I love Rhodium so..........................I bought a real camera
I dropped the phone and broke the back camera glass cover. I ordered the part online.. but after a few days, a black spot appeared on my lens (if you open the camera app). Initially, I thought it was a dust or something but after the replacement glass came in, I tried to clean it but it won't come off.. so, now I'm thinking it's a scratch. So... it looks like I need to replace the camera. Has anyone else done it? I want to... but, I don't to bother if a replacement won't be the original quality.

^one I found using google
It's not that I don't know how... I've watched tutorials. Quality is the issue.
If you need a new camera it looks like you don't have a choice in this so you should do it
