I've heard that CM7 fixes android's pathetic A2DP bluetooth music quality... can anyone confirm this with their Evo?
I've got a pair of Sennheiser MM100 bluetooth headphones and they sound great on my old Windos Mobile 6.1 phone with registry settings modified to up the bitpool setting. Honestly, they sound as good as a pair of wired phones. But they sound absolutely awful when paired to my Evo, with unbearable artifacting apparent on high pitched sounds (like cymbals).
Also, how's connectivity with bluetooth car kits? I've got the buletooth option in my Mitsubishi Lancer, and have to manually connect each time (which is a pain). My other car has a Pineer AVIC D3 with bluetooth and the Evo auto-connects every time, also A2DP works on it, though, again, with poor sound quality.
Yes, it's true. I don't have a very good bluetooth A2DP headset (i bought it mainly for phone use, i don't actually use it for A2DP much), so i can't speak to just how good it can sound on CM7. But I can tell that it definitely sounds leaps and bounds better on CM7 than it does on anything else.
That's great to hear. I'll consider moving to CM7 once they get the 720p video recording fixed. It'll be cool to have my Nook Color and my Evo 4G running the exact same ROM.
I found this thread trying to solve this problem. I've found the opposite, the sound quality on CM7 is horrible. The music sounds like a CD skipping. Btw I have a set of plantronics BackBeat 903+. The quality on newer sense roms like synergy and kingdom 1.3 is ok, pretty good inside, and a little spotty outside. I think because the problem changes b/w roms, it is rom specific and not the evo, although I don't know what the best case scenario would be. If anyone finds a solution, please let me know!

Hi,
I recently got myself a HTC Desire and a pair of Sennheiser MM 100 headphones (bluetooth headphones).
I am noticing a slight hiss in the highs when I'm using the Sennheisers (you can notice that especially well when a drummer works a lot with his cymbals in a song) and the audio-fanatic in me finds this *very* annoying.
Out of curiosity I tested the headphones with my previous phone as well (Samsung Omnia: Windows Mobile). I noticed the same thing (although not as extreme as on the Desire). With a change to the bitpool setting (in the registry) I could however fix it completely on the Omnia (the Desire sounds like it uses a bitpool setting around 30)!
My questions are now:
Do you notice the same thing (is that normal on the Desire)?
If not: Is my device faulty (half-broken bluetooth connector)?
If so: Is there any way to increase the bitpool size on Android as one could with Windows Mobile?
Thank you,
Max
*bump*
It would help me as well if someone could tell if their device actually works fine with bluetooth headphones.
That depends what you mean by fine! My bluetooth headset works perfectly with my Desire, but then again I'm hardly an audiophile so perhaps I'm just not noticing what you do.
Regards,
Dave
Thank you.
Well, I would describe these distortions as very noticable as soon as there are a lot highs to hear.
I'm getting to a point where I actually believe that my bluetooth transmitter is faulty (is that even possible? A faulty transmitter that works well excluding distorted highs?).
Update: I checked another HTC Desire with these Headphones, it sounds exactly the same (which is bad).
The fact that the HTC Desire cannot stream music as well as the Samsung Omnia does is sad and renders those headphones useless (for me at least).
Thank you anyway,
Max

Your hearing is perfectly fine The problem exists with almost all Android phones, it is confirmed with HTC Desire, Desire S, Sensation and Samsung Galaxy S2. I have a Sennheiser PX210 Bt but I tried with Nokia BT headphones and other Sennheisers too. The root of the problem is probably the bitpool setting of the BT.
The only known fix now is using an AOSP ROM (like Cyanogenmod). Every Sense-based ROM is faulty because the BT stack is different than the Cyanogenmod one.

I noticed this also,
If I turn down the media volume on the desire, and turn up my headphones instead, it seems to sound better,

I have a Plantronics Discovery 975 Bluetooth Headset. I loved it on my Touch Pro 2 and had no issues.
But, since I have had my Evo, I can't use it much because everyone I talk to says I am too loud or just sound like static or crackling noise. Resetting BT or having them call back helps a little bit they say but not much. Then, it returns.
Is there anything I can do, should I buy a different headset, is there a concensus in the Evo community on what the best headset is for this phone for someone who likes high end headsets? Could it be my particular headset just got a weird defect? Or, is it just that the headset on the Evo is just not good despite it's other really cool features?
Anyone with good headset experiences with the Evo, please also post what headset you are using.
I get that nothing is perfect but I bought the 975 for the Touch Pro2 and loved it. And I just want similar results on the Evo with this headset or another headset IF such results can be had. If there's no headset that will work as well, I sadly may have to give up .3 inches of my screen and try the Samsung Epic. That's a great phone but I kinda want ever square inch of my evo screen.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Anybody ?
No answers for you. Re-pair the phone to the headset? Mine works great, not one person has ever had a complaint with me on mine and the evo.
Dont mean to revive this thread, but just wanted to say that I have the same issue with my two Evo's. Me and my GF have Evo's. When we talk with the Plantronics 975, the sound is horrible. Same headset on another phone is perfect. It is definately the Evo.
Odd part is it sounds like it is the noise cancling causing the issue. It she is quiet and a blert something out, i hear a slight eco from her side and then the noise starts. A few seconds later it quiets down and stops. Its like any noise (talking) that gets into the loops runs for a while before it cycles out. Every strange and very annoying.
i have the same issue but with nexus one... so the evo itself is probably not the cause...
any ideas about it? couldn't find a solution anywhere else....
don't buy this headset. buy a soundid headset. IT IS SUCH A BETTER ONE! however, do to stack issues that are built into our phones and software/hardware issues with the headset, it has all the issues you're claiming.
I have a plantronics backbeat 903+ they work perfectly on Sense Roms. AOSP, CM ROMs, you might as well tie two dog turds to a string and listen. Just my experience.
I have been looking into some different Bluetooth purchases. One being a pair of Bluetooth headphones I would like to use them on my EVO my question is how bad does the audio sound using the sense Bluetooth programing I have seen some rumors of it being horrendous. also would like to use the Belkin Bluetooth audio line in adapter in my car have a good car stereo I don't want to change it to something different (avic900bt). I just don't want to get all set up and hate the quality. I would like to stick with a sense rom. right now I am using warm 2.2rls 5
thanks guys
I have the motorola s 9 hd, and they sound really good.and also I have the avic-120 and it sound good, too

It's horrible. I don't understand how anyone can say otherwise. My Voyager 855 certainly isn't audiophile quality even with a good source, but when I tried out CM, it was noticeably better. With the Sense BT stack, cymbals sound like someone pissing on tin foil.
The Bluetooth stack in virtually all Sense ROMs is absolute crap. CyanogenMod fixed it a long time ago (and actually uses a proper stack that's fully FOSS). Plus CM has a DSP equalizer built in that you can use.
The quality certainly doesn't match that of wired headphones (and probably never will), but for bluetooth, it's fairly good. Noticeably better than the same pair of headphones connected to a dongle on a Windows 7 computer.
grab a voyager pro plus headset; the sound will amaze you for a bt headset..
I see other threads, but didn't find a concrete answer. I recently got a BT deck and I currently have CM7 on my evo. When I stream over a2dp there is a "tin" noise on the high notes no matter if I'm using Pandora or just playing MP3's straight from device. I see it on other threads described as "high pitched metallic noises". I can jack in by aux and play the same songs and they sound wonderful.
So really my question is think it is the ROM or just A2DP being normal?

Nevermind.. don't buy a clarion z500. I tried two different devices and same issue.
Yes, the BT stack that HTC uses does indeed suck. CM7 uses a much better stack. Though my impression is that A2DP at its best still isn't that great. I don't have a really good A2DP device anyway, so I'm not sure how close it comes to wired when it's working well, at least for my picky ears.
Does anyone have a suggestion for ROM that will work well with a bluetooth headset? When I say work well I mean one that isn't all garbled and quiet and has decent audio....I am using a Plantronics Pro HD, I returned one already because I thought it was the headset, but I am getting the same results with the new one...any suggestions would be awesome...thanks in advance!
Let me recommend you the stereo headset instead of rom. I'm using LG Tone (HBS-700) Wireless Bluetooth Stereo Headset for last 4 months and no issues at all with any Roms (I've used this headset with any kind of roms from GB to ICS).
+1 headset

Try a quality headset.
I've had great luck with the Blueant headsets.

I thought Plantronics was quality lol....heard Blueant had horrible battery life...idk...
I recently started bluetoothing music in my truck and I noticed a considerable difference in quality between gingerbread and ICS.
ICS is better.
For some reason, although the GB roms are more "stable", the stream has a lot of white noise and artifacts. But with an ICS rom. It isn't noticeable.
Whether or not this would apply to a headset, I can't say. But thats what I've experienced. I'm kinda picky about how the music sounds and now I won't go back to GB just because of this.
And if you want an ICS rom. Then use "The goodness". I dare say CM9 has the best quality, but its still too finicky for some people.
