Guessing this thread goes here if not im sorry.
I am trying to root my hero and found a guide that i should use "flashrec" to first backup and the install/flash "recovery-RA-hero-v1.5.2" but when i try to back up i first got the error "Could not run command" tried again and got "image is invalid" and had hat error the last 20:ish times
But now when i try again i get the first error again.
And i have tried to restart phone an factory reset it and emptied the sd and so on but could not get it to work.
So i figure that i have to change tactic so i found another guide
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=4257045&postcount=38
And it that guide they wanted me to use fastboot instead and i got as far as i should check if fast boot find my phone and it did without problem with (fastboot devices).
And the link in the guide to download recovery was broken so i figured i can use "recovery-RA-hero-v1.5.2" so i ran the command "fastboot boot recovery-RA-hero-v1.5.2.img" and only got "could not load file" or something like that.
And of some strange reason now when i try boot my .img i get "downloading 'boot.img'... FAILED (remote: not allow)"
So now after all this im starting to wonder if there is any safe way left to root the phone at all.
My phone is htc hero from swe updated with original "2.73.405.5" from htc and have never been rooted before.
Now i have even tryed the downgrade wethod with goldcard without result.
Same error both in flashrec and fastboot
Update to 2.73.405.5 via the WWE update from HTC's website and use this Flashrec 1.1.3 which works on that version
That was the one I had from the bigining but I can try again do I need goldcard then I have some other 2.73 now that I used goldcard to install or can I just flash with original.
Checked the rom im using now and it has the same checksum as the one on htc:s website "_HTC Hero_RUU_Hero_HTC_WWE_2.73.405.5_WWE_release_signed_NoDriver.exe"
So i have the latest from the htc site.
And flashrec dont work i get the "could not run command" some times and "image is invalid" some times and i have tryed the version of flashrec you recomended.
I have tried now and reinstall with "RUU_Hero_HTC_WWE_1.76.405.1_R3_WWE_release_signed_NoDriver" and gold card cus i cant use the flashrec on my phone.
but then i get "checking main version : update faild" should:nt that work on goldcard?
It sounds like you didn't make the goldcard correctly. When a goldcard is in the phone, it is the 'Super CID', which should get rid of the Checking Main Version : Update Failed error message associated with downgrading.
I can only suggest you try again using a different microSD card, preferably the stock one that came with the phone, and follow the instructions exactly, making sure you reverse the digits correctly (if you do it manually). If you're not sure, use QMAT as mentioned in the guide.
Once the goldcard works, you should be able to downgrade no problem.
HTH
I have the stock card and did exactly as the guide with the qmat so it should be right.
And copied over rows in the sdcard as an removeble device witg write rights and the card works in computer as one guide said i should test.
Could u help me if i send u my id so i know the goldcars should be ok?
What is the best way of formatting the card before doing gold card is it format in htc or sd formatter?
in this guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=573866 it says i should downgrade to 2.73.405.5
"20. Use the Official HTC RUU to downgrade to 2.73.405.5 here ftp://..."
And i am already on that rom as original from htc when i upgraded this summer/fall.
I'm stuck at a nearly 99% brick I think...
I've got an AMOLED Desire from T-Mobile Germany (still branded), with HBOOT 0.80.0000, rooted via Unrevoked and still S-ON.
The phone gets stuck during the boot process when the provider-splashscreen (or HTC-Logo) is shown at the beginning. Only pulling out the battery will shut the phone down.
The same happens when I try to get into Recovery via HBOOT. The only option is to pull the battery.
If I connect the phone via USB and enter Fastboot it is recognized by the computer with the command "fastboot devices".
I can't use ADB, because I can't access the recovery.
I downloaded the right RUU for my provider/amoled/hboot 0.80.0000 Desire (RUU_Bravo_HTC_WWE_1.21.405.2_Radio_32.36.00.28U_4. 06.00.02_2_release_126984_signed) and extracted the ROM.zip from the installer. I renamed the file to PB99IMG.zip and manually moved it to the SDcard using my computer.
But, when I enter HBOOT the file is recognized and extracted, but then it fails ...due to an "incorrect CID".
The same happens if I manually execute the RUU....exe under Windows with my phone plugged in via USB. (It's error code 131 in the flash program of the RUU....exe).
A very helpful user (cargo) of a german Android forum (www.android-hilfe.de - link to his posting) assumed that my HBOOT is not correctly displayed and I might have a "newer" one than 0.80.0000
This leaves me quite without any option than to flash HTC RUU 2.29.405.5, which brings HBOOT 0.93.0001...(but I may be able to downgrade again.)
But this flash process is only possible if I have a Goldcard, which I actually don't have at the moment
Is there any way to create a Goldcard for my device in my actual position (only fastboot working, no boot to run the system, no adb working, no recovery access)?
Every howto explaining the goldcard crating process requires either working adb or even a running system for apps like "goldcard helper" or being able to use "terminal emulator"
I would be very very thankful for every bit of help
Maybe there is some way
Thanks in advance guys!
I believe that goldcards are specific to the card and not the phone(read it somewere on here) so it should be possible to make one without using your phone.

As far as I know you need the phone for your goldcard. At least it was said in the tutorial I was following a few months back. You need to connect the phone to get the serial number (through ADB shell) which you will need to hex-reverse and put it on your SD card image.
To be honest, they are more sophisticated methods now (as I read) creating a goldcard, but since unrEVOked, i do not follow that part.
And by the way, why don't you flash the HTC RUU 2.29.405.5? 0.93 HBOOT can be downgraded. But with the latest tools you can S-Off, root & whatever with that HBOOT, too.
I just tried flashing the HTC RUU 2.29.405.5 with the PB99IMG-method.
But I get an error "CID incorrect"
I treid to execute the HTC RUU.exe and I get again error code 131...which means something like "user-ID error"
But I could grab a screenshot of the actual "version" of the RUU...or what is this?
Thanks guys
CID incorrect? Your phone is unbranded or branded? Because I found this:
ERROR [294] : INVALID VENDOR ID
Every device contains a short string that identifies the operator who sold it. Because the same device is sold by different operators, this prevents users from flashing a T-Mobile ROM to a device that was sold by Orange, for example. You probably need to Install a HardSPL or CID Unlock your device.

I recommend to find a RUU for your device (e.g Vodafone, T-mobile etc.)
Also:
ERROR [131]: CUSTOMER ID ERROR
One of these error messages will appear when you use the wrong RUU to do the update. The RUU will check if the Model ID and Language ID are compatible with the Android phone. Make sure you use the correct RUU to update.

If it's saying wrong CID then it's branded, simple as that
1. Boot your phone in fastboot
2. Run the ruu that matches your phone.
You need a T-mobile branded ruu.
You can look here for one that matches. http://shipped-roms.com/index.php?category=android&model=Bravo
I think you can try an UK one, because it is multilingual.
If it is giving you the same errors, then you picked a wrong version.

well it said "incorrect cid" even with a t-mobile branded ruu :/
If you are rooted, then boot into the bootloader and flash a custom rom. Then create a gold card.

Yes, try that too, if you can.
Also use a NOA2SD Rom if you dont have ext partition. Or create one on your PC (if you want to use an A2SD ROM).
How can I flash a Rom using the bootloader?
Simply rename the zipped Image of a custom Rom into "PB99IMG.zip", put in on the SDcard and boot into HBOOT?
Thank you

Yes, if you rooted with unrEVOked. Boot in to recovery (clockworkMOD/AmonRa) wipe all data and flash a CUSTOM rom.
You don't have to rename it, it can be anything as soon as it is .zip

Uhm...flashing a custom rom in general is no problem...but i can't access Recvoery
as described in the initial post of the thread only the bootloader (HBOOT) and fastboot are working.

Yeah, sorry, my bad.
Well you can try to falsh it via PB99IMG.zip, but i won't think it work.
your only hope is finding a working RUU. (at least seems to me, if you can access only fastboot).
Hi all, have same trouble with flashing via PB99IMG, but in my case, the device normally loads the firmware and returned to fastbut. When you try to go to recovery device hangs on the logo. Фfter removing the battery and re-attempt to restart the device, it begins to vibrate 7 times and then freezes on the logo. What do these vibration?
PB99IMG.zip will work as you don't need recovery. Just put it on the root of your SD card and boot into HBOOT. It'll find the file and flash it
did renaming rom to pb99img nd flash via hboot work for you?
i have a similar problem, rather same prob, only fastboot available
To let this thread maintain usefullness for future readers:
The solution was to take a goldcard from a friend and flash the right (matching hboot, provider and version) RUU, by using the PB99IMG method.
By this the phone will be set back to it's delivery state! This will include the Rom, all data in the NAND storage the recovery and everything else, which got modified like getting root access or S-OFF etc.
Troubles were caused by USB-Brick or an error on my old ext3 partition or maybe even corrupt data in my Titanium file-backup I restored a few days before the crash :/
I can't clearly say what is the main cause...maybe it was a combination of all.
If you don't have got any chance of getting another goldcard (yes the goldcard creation does NOT depend on the devices! It can be created with ANY android phone ) you are really screwed.
My advice: Always keep a spare microSD card, equipped with it's goldcard image around!
Because I was not able to find any method to echo the CID (Id of the SDcard) in fastboot.
Greetings
And good luck to all of you having comparable issues
Hello,
I've had some strange issues with my phone lately, random reboots, hangs etc.
I was s-off by Alpharev and running Oxygen!
Trying to sort of this issues I wanted to reset the phone completely by installing the default RUU and start over again.
I downloaded all European RUUs as I didn't know which one to use. The problem is, I have tried them all now, but they all fail with error code 110. The code appears when copying the system files, at about 70 percent.
All I've got now is the silver HTC logo and some icons in each corner when I try to start it. I have lost both fastboot and recovery meny it seems.
Anyone have any suggestions? Hope I didn't f*** my phone completely!
Thanks in advance.

need to have the right ruu and then flash some nice tut on above links.
another way to do is to use PB99IMG file extracted from ruu (be sure you got the right one)
depend on the stock firmware was on device. U do need to remember.
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/22152187/How to Extract the ROM from an RUU.doc
hope this help
Use this.. and do a MD5 check with below for donwloaded file
http://shipped-roms.com/download.ph...9.00.32U_5.11.05.27_release_151783_signed.exe
MD5 14d740a8ec68bd8cc830ff7c0905df72
Coz I think you are flashing OTA files and not the full ROM.. Try above
I have downloaded and tried the Rom you suggested but still no luck. This are the numbers described in the updater: 2.29.405.5 to 2.29.405.2.
Now I got another error message at the end; Error 152 (rom error) Says it can't update the phone!
Any other suggestions?
As I've said, can't get into either fastboot or recovery!
After I disconnect the usb cable the white "fastboot" screen appear with the installation info:
Stops at (6) system - Fail-PU - Partition update fail!

I haven't had my SD-card in the phone when trying to sort this things! Do I really need to?
I tried it just now with a formated sd-card. Same error.
Tried this as well:
so i got it to boot using this method
download the android sdk
then use cmd prompt on windows
type
cd\
cd\<your directory>\android\tools
fastboot oem boot
The phone then went into the white screen with the green htc logo, but nothing else happened! When I restarted the phone it went straight into the silver logo screen again...
hi,
if so type
Code:
fastboot oem eraseconfig
the try flashing Ur Ruu
hope this help
Apologies if this has been discussed already, I've searched plenty but wasn't able to find this exact scenario.
I have a PG76120 that shipped with locked HBOOT 0.90 and S-ON. I set out with the goal of unlocking the bootloader via HTCDev. The update RUU for failed but I was able to flash the 2 zips separately through the bootloader.
After the rom_01 file (the one that contains radio 7.54.39.08M) I noticed HBOOT was reporting S-OFF so I decided to see what exactly I could do with it. I flashed CWM, made a nandroid, and tried a couple of 2.3.3 ROMs, none of which worked (I imagine because the bootloader was still locked).
I restored stock from nandroid and flashed rom_02 (the one that contains HBOOT 1.08.0099 and radio 7.53.39.03M) and unlocked the bootloader. Thiking that secu_flag is stored in the radio image and that since the rom_01 image reported as S-OFF it might have been unlocked) I then flashed rom_01 again. It didn't S-OFF but it did update the radio.
So: HBOOT 1.08.0099
Radio 7.54.39.08M
***UNLOCKED*** & S-ON with CWM as recovery.
At this point I gave up on the idea of having a custom ROM and decided to flash stock 2.3.5. I used http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1485345 and flashed it via clockwork. This has caused my problems:
The first time I flashed I had an error a couple of people in the thread were having: phone wouldn't boot past first HTC screen when it went to CWM with "E:invalid command argument". I cleared data/cache/dalvik and reflashed which solved the problem, but has left me in the current situation:
Phone will not boot into recovery, or past initial HTC screen unless the USB cable is plugged in. It bootloops showing the HTC logo and a brief rumble.
If the cable is plugged in it will boot to the new rom and to recovery no trouble, but as soon as you take the cable out it resets and starts bootlooping.
If I put the cable in so that it progresses past the initial HTC screen, but then take it out before it completes launching it's fine, but as soon as the cable goes in it resets and starts bootlooping.
Neither the operating system nor recovery can mount the sdcard. HBOOT can detect update files on the sdcard.
Official RUUs will not flash, they say ERROR 155 (EDIT: RUU Security Fail! Update Fail!)
I also cannot pass them to HBOOT as PG76IMG (it detects the file but is dissatisfied with its contents and aborts).
I cannot flash them via fastboot (signature not found). I can flash CWM again just to make sure its not borked (and I've done that).
I cannot flash anything via recovery as it cannot see my sdcard.
WTF is going on here? :/
Thanks in advance for your assistance.
Update: I've managed to flash an official RUU by relocking HBOOT with
fastboot oem lock
And passing it as P67GIMG.zip on my Goldcard. The same strange rebooting behaviour continues! Is it possible that I have genuinely damaged its hardware?
Is there any possibility this has to do with a corrupt misc partition?
I was able to fix the sdcard issue with fastboot oem enableqxdm 0. The phone can see the sdcard but will not identify itself to the computer over USB. To get files onto it I need to bluetoothe them from my GS2.
If so, could someone please post their misc partition from a functioning 3G Marvel?
Thx
Hi guys, wonder if you can help me. I have a HTC Desire (GSM) and rooted it, removed UK O2 branding and putting Froyo (2.2) on it and a new radio and Clockwork Mod Recovery. I messed around - thought I’d bricked it following a dodgy flash, as couldn't boot, get into recovery or anything, with the phone looping at the HTC logo and powering on until I took the battery out.
Thought I’d look at it today and made progress, but still can’t get a RUU to install on it. I can get into Recovery menu via bootloader and I think the SDcard is a goldcard. Issues I have are:
• I can’t flash a RUU onto the phone from running the file through Windows, as I constantly get an Error 170 USB Connection error. I’ve tried reinstalling HTC Sync, trying different versions, tried a different USB cable and port. I’ve tried running HTC Sync as Admin, and in compatibility mode under XP SP 2 and updated the driver in Control Panel and it displays as “My HTC”, nothing works. I am running Windows 7 64 Bit.
• I tried putting the RUU onto the phone as a PB99IMG.zip file and running it through Recovery, but I get a message saying “bad file”
• As soon as I put a file onto the SD card, Ext3 then won’t mount with an error message and I have to repartition the SD card in Windows (Using Mini-tool Partition Wizard). The error I get is "can't mount /dev/block/mmcblk0p2 (File exists) error mounting /sd-ext/!” I can fix it, but soon after it is fixed it reverts back to error it I add any files to root of the SD card to run through Recovery.
I just want to get the phone back working, whether it is branded or unbranded, and whatever RUU I can get working on it. Can anyone advise the steps I can take from here please?
My stats/versions are:
HBoot 0.93.0001
Radio 5.09.00.08
ClockworkMod Recovery v2.5.0.7
S=On
Thanks,
Stewart
Tried downloading the RUU again? I recommend to check md5sum afterwards.

Thanks MatDroid, I've managed to get past the 171 error and now getting a 131 error, saying it is the incorrect ROM. Is there somewhere I can get confirmation of the correct ROM for my device and check MD5sum before loading?
I would look at putting on another recovery, something like 4ext touch. Google it, your current clockwork recovery is pretty dated. Look at a program called android flasher, and you will be able to flash a new recovery through that.
Once you get the new recovery working, there is an option to toggle USB storage in which you can put your custom from on the SD card. Once the custom from is on your SD card, flash it through recovery. Hopefully it should work
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
you should really look at my guide, you don't flash RUU zip files through recovery.
just realised you are s- on so android flasher won't work. Therefore until you s-off your phone, as mattdroid said you may have a bad download for the ruu. Try downloading ruu again nd running the exe file

Yeah just realised that too sorry for the wrong information. he is only wanting a ruu which of course is not done through recovery with the exe file. Custom rom is a different story.

Thanks guys I've figured it out and have now succesfully got the phone working.
Issues were:
I was trying to flash the wrong RUU (a 2.09 instead of 2.10) so when flashing it was rejecting as a lower version. Using the right RUU worked
My SDcard wasn't a goldcard - I thought it was but apparently not. I re-created the goldcard and it worked
I was trying to flash from the wrong place - instead of through FastBoot USB I was going into Clockwork Mod and loading files, mucking around with the mountings and things like that
All great now, so thanks again.
