Wildfire Bootlocking update from HTC - Wildfire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Ok this isnt much help to those expecting a fix any time soon but.....
HTC seem to have decided our Wildfire is worth there attention after a conversation with one of there support agents on the website heres some of the convo:
Chris : ok could you give me any information regarding locked bootloaders and the wildfire being unlocked
Robert: We are currently developing new bootloader unlocked software for your phone. HTC is still committed to allowing our customers to unlock the bootloaders if they wish, however we are still implementing the policy and many updates were already finalized prior to our change in policy. We apologize for the inconvenience, but be assured that we are working on a solution for our customers and our commitment has not changed. Please stay tuned to our official channels for ongoing updates on how we will be implementing this policy. Thank you for your patience.
Chris : So the Wildfire hasnt been forgotten about then
Robert: no none of the phones have been forgotten that is the latest response we have for customers. you can always come back to us to see if we have any later news on this for you in the future.

Well this does indeed sound promising

UPDATE On HTC DESIRE OFFICE FROYO UPDATE DELAY

Called HTC today. Gentleman said that google has not released 2.2 to HTC yet for development so it definitely won't be released on 23rd (today). He said when they have it, there will be a schedule released on the front page of htc.com/www/
already got it. apparently

Sent from my HTC Desire
why say "delay"?
HTC didn't officially say that it will be released today, 23 June.
Just my 2 cents.
Oh Goodness T_T
this is real sad.
Bet so many desire owners feels the pain =(

Everyone can start complaining once the source is released, but until then, god quit blaming HTC. and yes I know HTC probably already has the source, and has probably already updated Senseui for it, but until Google finalizes it, HTC won't release an update.

I don't want to use words like other people about lack of google's informations about any release date, unprofessionnal support, htc support etc... I'm sure they would better hire some of you guys to help them! You are the one which are giving us what we need, not google nor htc. I'm sorry, but feeling like moving to another OS, being iOS or WM7... too disappointed, sorry.
The only people you should be disappointed in are the rumourmongerers who got you thinking that some official source had promised to get you FroYo on 23 June.

You're right jstegeman... Even by myself trusting and hoping these. But I had hope in Google as well and not having any fix release date look to me unprofessionnal... the term "shortly" used by them can mean days, weeks, months... Is it so difficult to say the release date will be the xx of xx year xx and keep that date?
Sorry but this might come from my Swiss habits, having the clock's at the right time, no improvisation, organization... I hate "not knowing" and am quite impatient lol

Right. I hope impatient people do move to other handsets and stop posting in the wrong section as well as creating more new threads for the same-pointless- arguments. Go outside and have some fun, walk the dog, etc.

I dont know if this is true, but seems more reliable than words of a customer, lets hope for the best
zdnet is reliably.
and it ever was.
they will lost the good reputation, they worked for if this isnt true
and i dont think, they wanna risk it
This happens again and again and people believe this. Guys, first of all this is a stupid excuse from customer support.
Do you really think that Google lets HTC wait for release like the rest of us? They have been working on 2.2 from early stages too, they must if they want to release timely 2.2 devices.
Secondly, they would never ever release a froyo build before google.

Sorry Swissman,
but a new release of a OS is NOT a FIX as you defined it.
There have been fixes available on the air, and - afaik - no other os-manufacturer does release on-the-air fixes like Google does.
Moreover, you bought a mobile phone with a working os, and - always afaik - you cannot blame Google in being supposedly in delay for a new release of an OS.
What should you think then about Microsoft for Windows 7 or Apple for OS 4????? Not to talk about Meego or else.....
Please have a cup of tea and try and have a different opiniono about "unprofessionality"....

hey seanomccool, you just got a scoop (not)!
People with some common sense knows it since a few weeks: froyo isn't officially released yet on it's primary platform, so no way it could be released today on the desire! In fact, google just told that there's no ETA yet for froyo.

MOTO wants to unlock bootloader!!

MOTO wants to unlock the bootloader!!!!!
Sent from my MOTO Defy
I'll believe it when I see it, but I do hope this is true. That would be awesome!
I think that Motorola wants to unlock it because bad reviews from devs.
Sent from my MOTO Defy
Not to mention the bad PR they received when that schmuck handling their YouTube account posted that users should "look elsewhere because they will continue to do what works for them".
Can you believe that?! Motorola's an ungrateful b*tch! If it weren't for us, they'd have closed operations a long time ago. It's us, their Android users, that are saving their *sses!
Leaving alone that customization becomes a topic more and more important to the "technically apt" customers and a locked bootloader makes them "look elsewhere".
Maybe they also realize sometime that devs normally influence a large number of people in their consumer behavior, be it by their dev work or in their direct social environment.
Wait and see...
And hope it's retroactive and not just a new more open bootloader for new phones.
They starting to ask about bootloader!!
Lest keep asking Motorola!!
Maybe we and it someware!!
lets hope this is true and not just a pr thing it would make development lots better. e.g cyanogen!

You do realise they didn't actually say that, right?
I really hope they do remove all the restrictions that are there just now but what they said was actually fairly non-committal unfortunately.
Exactly.
1. If I buy my phone from retail store (not unusual here), then there's no *partner* to concern with. So, give me an unlocked bootloader *now*?
2. They may only offer it for certain models, or certain SIM-locked models from certain operators.
I'll believe it when I see it.
any petitions..=?? where i can put my name under...
no problem :=) would be a pleasure for me :=))

Email received from HTC support

Hey everyone,
I went ahead and emailed HTC support asking about if there is plans to have our bootloader unlocked with a future software upgrade. I received a pretty canned response. Just thought I might share for those of you that don't have the time to email them yourselves.
Direct link to HTC email support added, please email them yourself!:

Dear Ryan, Thank you for registering your feedback in regards to HTC’s latest statement on bootloader policy. While the statement notes that locked bootloaders will not be occurring on future devices, the official policy is still being reviewed as it pertains to existing devices. Please keep an eye on www.htc.com and www.twitter.com/htc for the latest news.

Question on unlocking bootloader for Droid Incredible II.
Hello HTC,
I currently own a Droid Incredible and am considering purchasing and Incredible II. I am waiting to hear if you will include a way to unlock the bootloader at some point. A statement from HTC will go a long way in helping me decide on my next phone purchase...
Sincerely,
Scott

Unfortunately HTC will see you as a potential customer of a future device in this case. They will likely push you to a device that will be unlocked rather than a device that likely will not be. I'm not saying don't try it, just that you should expect that kind of response.
Sent mine, i'll post the response when i recieve it.
Let's hope we can get something started here. Here's the direct link to the email support page to make it that much easier for those of you that haven't sent one yet. If everyone that viewed this thread sent an email, it will surely make some difference...? Maybe?

I did specifically state that I wanted the Dinc II.. We'll see. If anything, HTC that we mean business with all of their devices.
I put in my email that i hadn't yet upgraded but i would likely switch to a different brand because thunderbolt was too big for me.
Guess what i got back? The exact same email that you did, word for word.
I think that if you send them a email with the word bootloader in it, you will get the same response. I sent one earlier today and I also have the same reply, word for word.
I think if we keep asking them to make their policy retroactive for all previously locked phones, they might give an official statement that they're releasing the update for all the phones, similar to how the fans got them to stop locking the bootloader.
i got a response from HTC that appeared to be a little more personalized:
"At this point in time, we don't have any information on if and how existing locked bootloaders will be unlocked (although I, for one, will be surprized if we just leave them as-is)."
Take that for whatever it may be worth...

I would be surprised if they weren't working on it now. They did it for the sensation and the DInc2 was the phone that really started the natives grumbling, so... It's a race Between hackers and htc. I would love an official, safe unlock but...

So, what's the verdict. Did Big Red kick us to the curb?

We've been EOL for a few months but they did say the GB update would be coming... we saw that early build leak and then nothing.
Is the Droid Incredible the new Droid Eris?
I was hoping for some kind of update before they start releasing those fancy new Windows Phones and I bid adieu to Android. I'm thinking of just finally breaking down and rooting.
Where is the easiest, most straight forward instructions on how to root this puppy. A few ROMS look nice... I figure I might as well try them out.
http://unrevoked.com/ unrevoked is a one click solution for root. Just root. Try out some roms, make a backup of your stock rom if you're unhappy.
Root is the best thing you can ever do to this phone.

It's Verizon people. If we ***** at HTC enough they'll cave but I can't write emails for everyone.
Dear XXXXXXXXX,
We are more than happy to be able to provide some clarity to the situation at hand.
Currently, our developers have to work with Verizon to determine when and if a ROM upgrade will be available. Unfortunately, there is no estimated time for availability of any ROM update. Please check the HTC America website for any software updates that may be released, http://www.htc.com/us. Just click on the support link then choose your device.
XXXXXXX, we do apologize for any inconvenience that this may cause.
To send a reply to this message or let me know I have successfully answered your question log in to our ContactUs site using your email address and your ticket number.
Sincerely,
Samantha
I only care because of source code & this is Verizon telling HTC not to update. It's fairly obvious that HTC had intentions of continued support.
Verizon has great coverage, but damn they suck at updates

I know it can be hard for people to justify taking 5 minutes to write an email they think is pointless but I would like to encourage you all to. Verizon will not change their mind but maybe we can get HTC to continue support on their site. Gingerbread won't be a big deal I know but I'm worried about ice cream sandwich & compatibility with our current resources.
You can contact HTC here: http://www.htc.com/us/support/e-mail

I dunno. I was polite but informed. I simply said that I knew they had plans for it & that older or similar hardware (desire, evo, etc) had received the update so I know it's not for a lack of compatibility or power. I also mentioned my displeasure at the fact that they would rather cater to Verizon than support current customers & they might want to take a page out of apples playbook in that regard.
Lastly I let them know that this would be remembered on my next purchase.
Above all be polite but informed.
Well I just finished my second reply. Basically restating previous points made in further detail but with an emphasis on the fact that apple can't sue them for emulating their politics free policy on supporting their current customers which is a major key to their success.
Once again I implore all of you to be the squeaky wheel. It worked for the desire community. So please people, lets demand some grease.

We're not even talking about being rooted or not. We're talking about an update that should have been released already that will bring with it more fixes and other Rom components we need to keep development alive for our phone. I used to love CM but it definitely did not blow my mind, lol. Its just Android with another overlay.
Tv out and 720p camera don't exist in all the GB releases (customs or leak). It won't till the GB OTA or RUU is released, if ever.
I'll see if I can shoot em an email in the a.m. Wifi is spotty where I'm at currently.
Sent from my awesome sauce Incredible with some sweet Miui action
Visually, there's no difference between 2.2 and the leaked 2.3. If it's that big of a deal to you, root your **** and install the leaked 2.3. It runs fine.
If you want to get more out of your phone, go with CM7.

Boo HTCDEV if you're reading this, booo
If there is enough driving force then maybe we have a chance. A handful of users will not be sufficient, we need enough people for HTCDEV to notice that there is a large enough userbase to warrant them developing the unlock for the phone.
At the moment there simply isn't enough people.

I think so too but they probably already have developed the unlock and there's a fat guy in a smelly Big Android BBQ t-shirt sitting at the HTC HQ with a small red button next to his hand. All he has to do is press it and we all get the update, but no.
