Has anyone found a motorcycle handlebar mount for their TB?
Sent from my A500 using XDA Premium App
I use a RAM mount where I can swap out the holder for my GPS or phones. But they don't have the TB holder yet.

Yeah Ram mounts are great, need one for the TB.
http://www.arkon.com/accessories/phone_bike_mount.html
I love my arkon car mount, search arkon bike mount in google, there are a couple other models
I mounted my HTC/Verizon Thunderbolt to my Kawasaki Versys using a combination of the Verizon Car Dock/Cradle (allows the camera/video to work) and RAM mount components off of my existing GPS mount (started as a handlebar mount that I moved to the dash with more RAM components).
I removed the rotator ball in the Verizon Dock/cradle's socket, mounted a RAM 1” ball (RAM Mount 0.38-16 Male Thread with 1 inch ball) off the socket with a washer, nut and filled the Dock/cradle's socket with epoxy for more surface area strength.
I then mounted the assembly on my existing RAM mount setup using RAM short arms off of a RAM Mount Triple 1 inch Ball Arm , putting the Thunderbolt cradle above my GPS
The franken-dock allows me to charge the phone, shoot stills, shoot video and use the TB navigation features. Very happy. If you wear gloves while riding, you will need a conductive path from fingertips to the TB (I used a sew on patch for my gloves) to work the TB's "touchscreen".
It worked so well that I bought another cradle to hack to mount in my Jeep.
Sorry, I had pictures and a video clip, but noob status purged the links.

No problem, thank you for the writeup.
That is cool.
How is the Nuvi working for you on the Versys?
I had a StreetPilot 2620 on my KLR. But, after 14,000 miles of Mexico and Central America dualsporting, it pretty much gave up the ghost. I have Nuvi 4" units in both of my cars, so I am looking at running them on my KLR and VFR. I just got a RAM mount for the nuvi, but haven't fixed it yet. We're doing a nine-day moto tour 4th of July week.
I hadn't thought about mounting the Thunderbolt to the bike. The Nuvi mount seems to hold my GF's iPhone 4 in otterbox. I was just planning on having the TBolt in my tankbag.
Do you use Bluetooth interface for the helmet?

I went from a Nuvi 265WT to a Nuvi 1450 LMT when I found that the 265's map was too out of date and a new map was 75% of the 1450 (lifetime map and Route capable). I've been very happy with the Nuvi's. Crossed the US West to East with my 265. Never set up the bluetooth on it and I have the directions muted-I just keep an eye on the screen. I have a Scala Q2 BT on my helmet that I used to synch with my HTC Imagio, but then I realized that I didn't want to talk to anyone while I was riding so I hardly ever use it on my TB. I might try it again as with the mount I can see who is calling and decide if I want to answer.......
Just as a note, I use a vinyl lunch bag to cover the TB mount and GPS when stopped/parked (out of sight-out of mind) to keep them clean an rain/dew/mist free. I also have a water resistant PDA bag (Twisted Throttle Bags- Connection PDA Bag) that I put a RAM ball on for the GPS when I'm riding in the rain.
The TB lends a bit more to the navigation as I can send Google Map routes (manually manipulated driving directions) to its navigation as an email Link in Google Maps without bothering with Mapsource and tethering the Nuvi. Also I've found that the verbal search functions on the TB are useful and more up-to-date than the Nuvi's POI's. Then finally the ability to shoot stills and video while riding is pretty fun, you have to exit the CAR mode to do this as the camera functions are not on the CAR mode menus.
Charging the TB on the bike took some new 12V adapters that could flow the 1A that the TB seems to need on the bike. The GARMIN 12V adapter don't put out enough juice to charge the TB.
Finally, if you wear glove, like I do, the TB's "touchscreen" won't function unless you figure a capacitance path solution - I used a kit to add conductive spots to my glove's fingertip (I put them on the fingernail side) to function the TB.
All good info, thanks so much!
I like the idea of the PDA/iPhone bag with RAM mount. Then I could move that between KLRs and my VFR if I got the Bags Connection hard mount (I already have a tankbag with the connector on the VFR's tank).
I just mounted the RAM Nuvi mount to my GF's KLR. It fits our 1350 but not the 264WT.
I just bought $500 of stuff from Twisted throttle for my new VFR800. Should have thrown some of that stuff in as well. Never enough accessories... ;-D
I have used a RAM Finger Grip mount for a few years now on various phones. I modified it with a hole through it (that is normally covered) so I can take videos while under way.
I added a 5 volt regulator and a charging plug.
The only real issue is rain.
The Finger Grip mount has worked very well for me.
Just got back from a one week camping trip using the Thunderbolt as a GPS.

I am going crazy trying to find a good mounting system for the Uni in the car (an 01 Focus). I use it for TT and the usual calling so would like it easily visable.
Is the Brodit type of mount better then a windscreen mount - why.
I like the look of the Brodit Active mount, but dont want to loose the Air vent on the dash (can't live with out the a/c in the summer).
If you have pics of the Uni mounted in the car I'd love to see them.
Is your prefered setup best? why?
I hope someone can put me out of my misery

This is my "way" =) he he he.

Hope at least it adds more idea to you.
I do have a "fixed" Brodit setup because:
a) the window-suction-cup-thing bounces and vibrates around because of the weight of the Universal
b) In the summer, the heat directly under the windshield is too much for the Universal.
I've placed the universal with a Brodit holder direct in front of the air vent, and the Universal loves it. But with the winter upcoming, don't know how the Universal is holding it when there's hot air flowing around him..

I went with the Brodit active mount.
Advantages:
1: Fixed mount against a solid part of the car which doesnt fall off the windscreen after you go over a bump.
2: Brings the Uni into reasonable reach which suction types didn't.
3: Bluetooth GPS receiver can be connected and charged off the same power supply as the phone, hard-wired into the car's wiring loom so no unsightly wires flailing about the car and being pulled out of the cigarette lighter when you change gear.
Disadvantages:
1: Can't be removed easily.
I haven't got any pictures but will take some later for you to see.

Brilliant - thanks
I used this type of mount with XDA II, and now use it with Universal for a long time. The previous one was active, this one is active as well.
I found it better to use Portrait orientation in most cases, except when need to type something, when I use Landscape; not a problem here, you can just turn it around and change between the orientations on-the-go (waiting on red light...)
The power wire has a cigarette-lighter plug, very neat indeed. Just in case my Bluetooth GPS unit gets low on power, I have an additional Y-connector (1 cig lighter plug and 2 cig lighter holes), and a cig lighter charger connection for the GPS. Looks less neat, but then it's got a week on its own without recharge, normal usage -- so don't use this config too often.
Looks very professional. Just like in the picture above, only I have it on my left and use my vent, not missus'
That said, my next BMW should probably have Sat Nav in-dash!
Hey Guys,
Im not doing a hard sell, but dont forget the Brodit Moveclip system now available. This 3 part pack allows you to slide the holder from the proclip and hot swap brodit holder devices onto the proclip or between cars wth a proclip and moveclip fitted, agreed, this is not ideal for fixed installation holders, but we have installed many onto passive and active with cig lighter holders.
Hope that helps you decide,

I am looking to spend anywhere from 15 to 40$ on a good car mount, preferably a windshield suction cup mount. I found this one from an add while making this thread rofl:
http://www.extremepda.com/HTCEVO-SM420.html
Anyone ever tried this? or does anyone have a good recommendation on a good car mount to buy?
I LOVE android GPS navigation, its just a pain holding the phone and driving.
Thanks,

I use this Arkon windshield suction mount instead of the gooseneck one you linked to:

This one is solid. I can't say for sure, but I'm guessing the one I have is less prone to bouncing around while the car is moving, compared to the gooseneck version you linked to. The only advantage of the gooseneck could be that it is longer - but again that would, at the same time, likely be a bad thing if it bounces around more while the car is moving.
Deal Extreme has one for $5.50 with free shipping. I like it a lot. It's made for the Evo and is a really snug fit. Battery door has snagged a few times, but it doesn't pop off, just takes extra effort to remove when that happens.

I want to get ProClip's EVO 4G dock:
http://www.proclipusa.com/brodit-de...t)/holder-with-tilt-swivel--511176-18252.aspx
http://www.proclipusa.com/brodit-de...-cigarette-lighter-adapter--512176-18252.aspx
http://www.proclipusa.com/brodit-de...ord-for-fixed-installation--513176-18252.aspx
But now that Sprint/HTC has their customized one, now I'm not too sure. My car (Mini Cooper) doesn't have anything flat to suction Sprint/HTC's holder (except for the windshield), but ProClip has a mount that can fit a few places that the suction can't and vice-versa. The suction one has a nice cable/power management.
Adding Scosche (http://www.cellularaccessory.com/btaxs.html) wireless bluetooth audio connector to my car's AUX line would be the wiring icing on the cake.
I got the Pro Clip with the adjustable holder. I actually really, really like it. The fit in my f150 is perfect, and it sits in place that is perfect. Its sturdier than any vent/suction mount ive ever used before, and it looks really nice.
Plus, with it being the adjustable holder, it works with my case on. Not only that, if I ever get a different case, I know it will work with whatever case I ever get. This is a nice little feature. Id say if youre looking for something not suction cup, look into the pro clip options.
I will say that if youre looking for something with a charging option maybe the pro clip isnt for you, however take into account where your cigarette lighter/power thingamabob is. In my truck its almost directly beneath where the mount sits, so running a charger up to it when needed isnt an issue, and isnt an eyesore.
Beware of this: http://shop.brando.com/htc-evo-4g-windshield-holder_p04741c0309d060.html
I bought one, left it in my car on the windshield for one day (wasn't even too hot) and the plastic is all warped around the suction cup and it refuses to stick to the windshield, and also scraped up the side of my EVO (the clips are too firm, and crush the phone).
Guess it's a good thing it broke, and was only $15 with shipping.
Tertrax XWAY. Pure awesome.

The GPS no, the compass yes.
Well there goes that option... I was going to put the magnet on the back of my case... I wonder if it would make a difference? With actually allowing the compass to work. I have one of the newer hybrid cases.
No need to make it complicated, nor expensive. The wave of mounts is flooding eBay, for as little as five bucks. This holder fits the (naked) Evo perfectly, is sold with vent, suction cup, or flex-arm mounts, and the holder itself has slots that will accomodate hundreds of the other universal mounts, like the ones you probably already have three of.
http://cgi.ebay.com/Car-Windshield-...866620?pt=PDA_Accessories&hash=item4aa486a1fc
And, unlike the seventy (!) dollar HTC mount, this one didn't forget the phone has a big ol' camera lens on the back of it.
If you have a case that's too much bother to do the in-and-out with, look at the GPS mounts that clamp.

Got that and the popular motorola micro-usb charger both on amazon. The total was $21. I love that it's quick to put the phone in and release. Plus it's not a snap-in type system so there's no wear and tear on the phone. The soft foam sides and bottom are a plus too. Only thing is the vent mount is pretty flimsy but it probably depends on the vents of the car. For me it was just hanging there and I knew on bumps it'll fly up and down.
Just wanted to post this review of a mount I bought on ebay ( will get the name and link soon )
I only took one pic so far when I first got it. But it totally AWESOME!!!
It might seem a little weird to many people and it did with me at first too..
Why, because it mounts INTO the cd player of your car.. You can do other slits in your dash but its designed for your cd player..
As for the quality, it looks very stout it feels a little cheaper than it looks but after a few weeks now, in my VW golf and hitting hard bumps, it holds like a champ..
What I love about it, it will rotate either way and will angle either way..
So if my passenger wants to watch a movie or something, easily done.. Or when using navigation and Car Panel I keep it in Portrait mode..
I cannot get over the PERFECTNESS of this mount.. I couldn't DREAM of a better place to put it or mount it..
It takes seconds to install, you just slide the mount into the cd, where a cd would go and tighten the screw..
THATS IT!!
the only thing I did do was cut the bottom leg that holds the bottom of the phone as its not needed, plus I only cut the Bottom U portion of it (hard to explain) so the charger wouldn't have any pressure on it..
In anycase Ill get more pics soon, but I just wanted to RAVE about this product.. And for only 15 bucks its the best investment I made with this phone.

Yes, if mounted in the CD player, you would not be able to play a CD.
It does work very well though and puts the phone in the perfect place for me in my truck. You can also use it in other places you have room to slide the mount into.
I've been using mine daily for the past three weeks with no issues and nothing but praise.

I got http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003ELOOZO/ref=oss_product from Amazon. Works GREAT with my EVO and my wife's BB and instincts. For $15 it is definitely worth it.
I bought the mount that the OP gave a link to. I really like it and have ordered 2 more for friends for Christmas gifts. Easy to install (if you can call it that - you just insert it ), functional, my charger fits into the port and the mount doesn't interfere, rotates easily, sturdy. SOOooooo much better and safer to have my Evo mounted like this as I use it for navigation and streaming music.
Thanks for the info on this mount. Got one ordered last night.

looks good but i wish it wasnt soo bulky
Good find, I also have the commuter case and didn't feel like taking it on and off if I got the official HTC mount.
I ordered the Mountek mount suggested by the OP. Works great, and keeps the phone in the most convenient location on my dash.
Now with a good mount I realized I need a way to connect to the car's audio system, so I just ordered an inline FM modulator. This will provide an aux in jack so I can stream Pandora, etc. I'm also thinking of wiring in a mic up near the visor so I can have a totally built-in hands-free system.
Thanks OP!
amazing reviews for it looks like itd be perfect for my tibby. ordering now
This is the best car mount BY FAR!
The green part is sticky and works with any case just about unless yours is slicked up and oiled. Same stuff on the bottom with suction.

The soundgate m2 worked great for my hero and I am going to use the same for my new evo. Would suggest it only if you have a case as you have to attach a coin size disk. Awesome mount!

Once you get it plugged into your aux in jack, you will be handsfree. At least that is how iw work for me. When I'm plugged into my (built-in) aux in calls come through my speakers, when I anser I am on speaker phone and the caller's voice is on the car's speakers. It. Is. Sweet!
I got a similar product manufactured by platinum at bestbuy, and within the first few days it started to lose its stickiness. After my phone fell out face-first onto my gear shift twice, I'd had enough. I returned it to bestbuy (at least they refund your money, no questions asked) and went looking for a better alternative.
I settled on a car dock I found at my local at&t store which I guess was designed for the iphone4. It has mechanical locking arms with a release button, good padding, a strong mechanical suction cup for mounting on the windshield, and an adjustable arm.
I am much more satisfied with the new mount, don't fear my evo falling out of it at all, and have it mounted landscape below my rear view mirror - very convenient.

im sure the first question would be whether it trips the autoload or not, which it does not, it isn't nearly long enough in probably 99.9% of car cd players
the thing is tight and doesn't wobble at all but can easily be removed if need be, oh and the bottom plate can be removed, so its just the two gripper thingies
its also at the perfect eye level (for me anyway: mitsubishi lancer), and doesnt obscure the view of the road at all.
Personally I use the Clingo vent mount and I think that its the BEST car mount ever! All you see is the phone not some bulky grips on the sides. These things work! Just my two cents! www.clingo.com
unfortunately due to the placement of my vents and the view obstruction (annoyance) of windshield ones, conventional mount locations are out of the question...ive seen that clingo before, and i agree it is a nice solution as well
I just bought a clingo right after I read this thread. And its awesome. Check out the youtube videos. The vibrant really sticks on harder than your crazy ex gf lol or a dog

Mine is not a universal mount but one just for the vibrant. I have a huge extended battery on my vibrant. Since there was nothing available, I made a custom holster out of kydex that fits it like a glove, access to all buttons, speaker and camera lens (for times i want to film my bicyling). Impossible for it to pop out. You physically have to unclip it out of the holster to release it. I made it with a 1/4" thread on the back so I can use it anywhere you would mount a camera. I made a stand just for it in and my bluetooth keyboard in my van. It can adjust from vertical to horizontal very easily. When i go biking, the holster attaches to the handlebar mount I made. It will also fit any camera tripod.
i bought this hoping to use it as a camera mount for track days with my car.

it was too shaky for my camera but if you just needed a mount for GPS or some other use, this worked very well with my phone in a TPU case. i found it for $12 on amazon
I purchased an Arkon megagrip for mine and was so pleased I ended up getting 2 more... 1 for my wife and 1 to use at work. It may have bulky pads on the side to hold it, but I know it will never let go unless I hit the release button. Perfect function and easy access to everything. Same sentiment here. The mount feels solid there is no wobble when im using it and it holds the Vibrant beautifully. Thank you for a solid find.
That looks interesting, but I'm thinking you'd be SOL with that bad boy and a headunit like mine.
I use one of these and it works perfect:
http://www.amazon.com/Scosche-IUH3-...MFTS/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1297489443&sr=8-1 It even opens wide enough to hold my 7" Tablet! Makes an AMAZING gps like that.

i didn't see this posted anywhere, but it is hands down the best car mount out there...unless you use CDs for music
http://www.amazon.com/Mountek-MT500..._1_1?s=wireless&ie=UTF8&qid=1296490219&sr=1-1
im sure the first question would be whether it trips the autoload or not, which it does not, it isn't nearly long enough in probably 99.9% of car cd players
the thing is tight and doesn't wobble at all but can easily be removed if need be, oh and the bottom plate can be removed, so its just the two gripper thingies
its also at the perfect eye level (for me anyway: mitsubishi lancer), and doesnt obscure the view of the road at all.

I'm in for one! but question. do i have to take out the cd in order to put this in?
no sir, you can keep whatever CD is in
I bought a Soundgate M2 mount from Amazon. Small footprint, solid and no wobble.
You do have to attach a tape on the back of the case to mount it so might not be for everyone.
You can do a search on youtube for sample installs.

Mine showed up in the mail today. Simply a great mount, Thanks for the tip!
today i bought a universal mount from rocketfish. the bicycle and car mount. i think i'm going to like this thing. the arm itself looks like what turbosix has, but it has the mount itself like what most universals have with the padded sides and the legs at the bottom.
what i really like about this is that i do NOT have to take off my silicone cover when i put the phone in a landscape position. it barely fits the device when it is extended all the way. and i can have it oriented so that i can take pictures with it when i want.
I just got the offiical Samsung Vehicle Navigation Mount Car Kit
http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-Vehic...QL1FII&s=merchant-items&qid=1298670628&sr=1-1
Cost was $34.11 after activating the 10% special offer code listed on the Amazon link above. While I was concerned about comments that the audio out did not work... it works PERFECTLY on my Vibrant running Froyo 2.2 You have to read the short instructions, OK so some of us don't like to "read" and "follow" written instructions, which tells you to download the Samsung Car/Home app... make sure you get the newest version of the app which supports Froyo... and when you run the app you have to touch the speaker icon to disable the internal speaker which then enables the audio output from the headphone jack on the Car cradle... a little confusing at first BUT it is a great mount AND the app works fine also... highly recomended!
Did a video of the mount in case anyone else is still doubting this mount.

The mount is simply amazing. It's all you need.

I have the same Rocketfish mount and it's pretty impressive. I use this bodyglove case and I don't have any problems putting it in the mount. The suction cup has NEVER come loose from my windshield - winter or summer - and the phone sits solid. Plus I like the ease of switching the mount from landscape to horizontal.
But after watching the Clingo video, I'm already considering buying one.
Damn. I want one and they are all out everywhere
Thanks to Chainfires DSLR Control app, I am looking for a way to mount my Xoom on my tripod. Any suggestions? Super strong velcro has been suggested, but I am not sure if that will work or not.
i know that there's a company called iSHOT that makes a tripod/window mount for the ipad/2 tablets...I'm sure that will work for the XOOM...this is probably the cheapest but still secure way to go...
iSHOT <-click for link
if you want something more guaranteed to hold...this is what I would get...
Gitzo Monitor Tray $85 <-click for link

I am doing the same thing.. I love the RAM mounts, use them for multiple things in my car. I am thinking about this setup.. have to measure the leg on my tripod first.
clamp to the tripod leg
http://www.ram-mount.com/CatalogRes...82065080045066045049050049066085/Default.aspx
xoom holder
http://www.ram-mount.com/CatalogRes...45072079076045077079084079051085/Default.aspx
there is also a more generic one that will fit if you have your xoom in some sort of case

I am actually putting my order together as I form this post
Xoom Tripod mount
Hey guys, I did the RAM mounts but did it a bit differently.
Here's the video I did on it, pretty easy to set up.
it wont let me post youtube vids, but do a search on youtube for "Xoom tripod mount modification" and look for user lros79 (da's me)
bascially i bought the xoom holder
the ram-101U
and a curved yoke mount plate
Tapped a hole in the middle for the quick release, and BAM, modification took me about 10 minutes.

Very cool.. I have all my parts and will be putting it together possibly tonight I went with the clamp that clamps onto the leg of the tripod that I posted.
hey guys
This is all very cool, I'm a photographer myself. I don't have anything to add personally but am very interested in this.
Can i ask what benefits you've got from using the xoom on a tripod firstly and secondly, what use have you found from using the dlsr controller app from chainfire?
Apart from using it in a situation where youre unable to look through the view finder, what other benefits have you found?
Thanks guys
I like my Xoom mounted to my Tripod Leg so I can still mount camera on the tripod.
I used RAM SKU:
RAMB121B RAM Mount Yoke Clamp Base with 1 inch Ball
RAM-B-201U-C RAM Long Double Socket Arm for 1" Ball Bases
RAM-HOL-MOTO3U RAM Mount Motorola Xoom Tablet Cradle
RAMB202 RAM Mount Round Plate with 1 inch Ball
I get mine from GPSCity. It's not a cheap system but it is very secure.
If you want the arm longer than that, you can get a double ball and a second arm.
I also got the Suction Mount RAPB224-2 for using in car.
