Desire HD in the pocket getting wet? - Desire HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello,
So I go to sports everyday but since my Itouch died I don't got any music.
So can I use my Desire HD in my pocket while running etc? Well I mean of course I can but my Itouch was always getting wet from my sweat in my pocket and the DHD isn't the best build quality.
Could the sweat damage the phone?

why not get one of them arm bands for your phone then you can use it knowing that is securely held and it is waterproof as well.
I have one of these and they are great

That is very uncomfortable in my opinion, but thanks for the advice.

should use a case with belt clip or sg like that.
do not carry in your pocket while running!

[Q] Should I get one?

Hey,
First thread on here so sorry if I have made any obvious mistakes here.
I have won an HTC Desire HD (woop!), however I am not sure if I should open the box when it arrives, because I am not sure if it is worth keeping or selling it! So I am asking HTC Desire HD owners if they wouldn't mind giving me some advice?
Will the battery be okay? I have heard bad things, if I am using music constantly throughout my 6 hour schoolday, and an hour either side walking home, as well as texting and other occasional bits and pieces, will it until I return home? I know you can't say for definite, but just an idea.
Also, is it fragile? My current HTC is pretty good, has been dropped occasionally, and minus some scratches works fine. Does this break easily? I imagine I will drop it alot due to the size.
Also, the size, is it really awkward? I am a 16 year old, could I use it with gloves on in one hand? Would it matter if it got slightly wet, from like rain etc? And would it be awkward to get in and out of a pocket.
I am incredibly nervous about getting this! I apoligise for my exact questions, but if you wouldn't mind commenting on one or more of the questions from your own personal experience I would be very grateful! This is my first "proper" phone, my last was an HTC Hero.
Oh, and one last thing, if you don't think it would be a good phone, which similar Android phone should I sell it for? Thank you very much for your time!
Hi,
Well done winning a Desire HD! (DHD)
My opinion is slightly biased as I love my DHD.

Yes, once the battery is conditioned and gone though a couple of charge/discharge cycles you will get a good days use out of it. I listen to the radio & music on mine for the vast majority of the working day (8 hours) and I have around 30-40% after this.

Not really, the body minus the covers is aluminium and hard wearing. The screen on the other hand is not Gorilla Glass and will crack/shatter if you are unlucky enough to drop it from height directly onto the screen. I personally don't use screen protectors, just the HTC leather case I got from Amazon.

It is quite big in your hand. It feels quite slim in your hand due to the contoured edges. I struggled to use it with one hand with gloves on, I've pretty much mastered the art of using it with my nose. As for the pocket, loose pockets will be fine. Close fitting jeans and you might have a problem. My advice, don't get it wet!
I myself had a HTC Hero prior to this, and its such a step up. If your into flashing custom ROM's and such its a great handset.
Thank you very much Do you know if getting a 1600 mAh battery will make much difference?
I do like flashing ROMs, and this phone sounds amazing, just not sure if it is the one to suit me.
Would anyone else mind commenting on their experiences?
Where have you found a 1600mAh battery? I would not trust anything you find on eBay.
battery life is fine once it's been conditioned it will last eight hours of use as you envision without a doubt, size should be fine my nine year old son doesn't have an issue with it and it fits in the pocket fine. Durability is great it's basically aluminium with a couple of plastic bits but yeah it seems to wear well
Its a great phone. The only complaint I can make is that Htc have made it such a difficulty to root. If the phone you get comes with 1.72 firmware too bad ... no root for you.
On the other hand 1.72 has much improved battery life.
I love my DHD.
I think I might look at selling it for a Samsung Galaxy S, seems like a more appropriate phone for me.
I'd get a Nexus S instead of a Galaxy S.
I'd suggest...keep it if you REALLY want it. If you don't, sell it, and either get the NEXUS S or save the money for a more powerful/appropriate phone released in Q1 2011...what do you say? XD
Nexus S is a better option if you want to mod your phone.
P.S. If you don't know already, you want to mid your phone.

IMO Keep it and then root it and you'll never look back

Yeah, but I couldn't sell the DHD for enough money to get the Nexus S. Plus the camera on it is poor.

What does mid mean? Do you mean mod? as in rooting?

[Q] MT4G Armband?

Does anyone have any recommendations for an armband for the MT4G? Thinking about picking one up on ebay from seller, mzmshop, but looking for some reviews. (Forum won't let me post a link, since I'm a newb).
T-Mo sells one designed for the MT4G but of course it runs you about $30
iAarmbands
I had one of these for the g1 I was happy with.
iArmbands
no affiliation, just a happy customer.
Cool, thanks. I saw that one on ebay but was wondering if it was any different than the cheapo's. You usually get what you pay for, so I'll prob give it a shot.
I picked one up for like $8.00 at WalMart. It's kind of a tight fit with the TPU case on, but I can still get it in and it does the trick.
This is rather off topic to OP's post but....
I'm assuming you got the armband so you can run while listening to music, etc with it???
Did anyone notice any hesitation in playing music (skipping) while the phone is in motion?
I have a bluetooth headset I use (blueant T1) to stream A2DP music from MT4G to headset and I get ALOT of skipping when MT4G is getting knocked around in my backpack...
sorry for the OT question...
I jogged while holding it or in my sweater jacket, never skipped or got hesitation..
I ended up buying one of the armbands from iArmbands. I haven't run with it yet - but think it will work well. My phone with TPU case slides in about perfect - its snug but easy to put the phone in and out.

The units with the SO screen use a micro sd card to store music and won't skip. The units with the SH screens store the music on nano optical media that is manually operated by a cute little mini monkey. If you shake the mini monkey he can get a bit pissy and skip your tunes.

I ordered the iArmband from Amazon. I haven't had a chance to run with it yet. I'm using my bluetooth headset since they are cheap enough but wanted to show photos of it with and without using the 3.5 jack. Click the photo for full resolution (Beware 14MB photos) Touch screen works in this.
Im confused with this. if you are sweating wont the sweat get into the armband case and get into the phone?

Is it possible to put in this armband a MT4G with TPU case (i.e. this one http ://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=130469512376&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT [remove space]) on it? Is it loose enough?
I have made armbands myself for my last two phones (MT3G, MT4G). All you need is the elastic from some old armband (I use one from my ancient MP3 player) and one of the $2 silicone cases from ebay/amazon, etc. Take an x-acto and cut two slits in the back of the silicone skin for the elastic band to pass through, then you just slide the phone into the silicone skin and attach to your arm. Looks much better than the generic armbands, works better without the touchscreen cover and only costs a few bucks.

Just got the Motorola Defy!

Woot! I just got the Motorola Defy and it is awesome so far. Glad to have a waterproof Android (maybe so) phone finally. So basically extremely happy to have traded a 32GB iPod touch for it.
No regrets!
Welcome, same here: I couldn't do anymore without that feature .

I'm thinking about getting the defy almost solely for the waterproof feature. This is actually a serious question: will I be able to technically take a shower or walk out in the rain with itXD without voiding the warranty or damaging the phone(heard the earpiece can be faulty). Thanks in advance...

As long as you always make sure the plugs are completely sealed then yes it should be fine
BUT
If you have alot of water on the screen it almost completely renders the touchscreen unusable from what I've heard. Having said that, I've used it before in a light drizzle and it was working fine. Trying to work a touchscreen with your fingers sliding everywhere isn't ideal, though!
Amen. I had no trouble with mine so far. People have used this phone underwater easily.

This phone is my new snowboarding and motorcycling companion.
apple for android = great trade off!!!
I wise purchase! I am coming back from Nexus S.
I'm well impressed with the waterproofness. First thing I did was video dunking it in a pint of water. Then took it for a shower (you can kinda tweet as long as you keep the screen out of the spray ) and then loaded Runkeeper and went for a run in the pouring rain.
And to cap it all, the cat was sick on it last night.

[Q] Running belt pack (hate to say fanny pack)?

Cant see myself strapping phone to arm via armband. Does anyone have a recommendation of a good running belt pack to carry this monster phone (w/ extended battery) around during workouts and runs? Thanks
www.spibelt.com
Great stuff. I use them for running and cycling. They DO NOT flop around.
Thanks much ... Was not sure if it would fit. Good to have this confirmation.

I'd love to run with the thunderbolt, but it's just too heavy/bulky. Touch screens also suck for trying to switch tracks while running. Sometimes I'll carry it, but I worry about dropping it. Mostly, I just resort to using my old first gen ipod nano with rockbox on it.

Evo armband

Anyone know of a good quality armband for the evo? Just started running again, and really hate holding my evo the whole time. I looked at some of the few armband threads I found, but many of the links were dead.
im looking for one too

Tune Belt makes a good one. I bought mine at academy sports for bout $15. They are sold at most sports stores. (You have to use it without case to fit).
***google it and make sure you order one that is designed for larger smart phones***
How is the sound quality on the blueant headsets?
