no need to format all those data/system/cache, the nandroid restore itself will do it for you.. and you will get back those data & system ..
but please be carefull about those CWM ext4 support (especially if you use sense rom now).. i'm afraid if you're cwm is not supporting nandroid restore in EXT4 and you will only get EXT3 .. but it's not a big deal actually ..

Well if the calibration data is in that file, then I guess you don't need to.

One of the coolest feature indeed.. the nandroid backup and restore

Hi everyone,
I'm new to Android and I read everywhere about backing up with Nandroid & Clockwork.
As far I know, they both backup your whole current image to SD.
So they actually do the same thing, isn't it?
If I'm not correct, can someone please explain me, please?
Thanks in advance
You use the clockwork recovery to do a nandroid backup of your existing ROM.

Oh ok, thanks for the explanation
Hi there!
Just to be 101% sure before flashing any Gingerbread release, because my DHD is Greek, and finding the proper image to revert device to stock can be a real pain in the arse, please acknowledge the following statement!
If I fully backup my DHD with Nandroid, which is currently stock 1.32, does this mean that after a 2.3 flash, I will be able to re-flash my DHD to previous STOCK state using ONLY the Nandroid created backup files?
Thank you very much for helping out!
Yes I believe this is correct. Mind you can also flash the radio and that is separate.

Yes that is the main intention of keeping a nandroid backup...so that you can always revert back to whatever ROM you were using before if something goes wrong with the newer ROM
Files list
Hello !!!
Does someone have the list of which files are created by ClockWork in order to store them elsewhere than on the SD card in case we need to format the card ?
Thx

They are stored on your SDCard under the folder clockworkmod > backup...so just copy the whole backup folder in your pc before you format the sdcard and place it back under the same path...
Thanks for the reply!

I'm aware of the steps needed to acomplish this (odin to stock, repartition checked), but I would like to confirm if this applies for backups as well. Would it be ill advised to attempt to restore a BML backup on an MTD ROM? I left some very important data I need in that backup, would like to get a hold of it soonest.
Also, if I can't restore and have to odin back to stock, do I have to flash the ROM before I restore the backup, or is it safe to restore as soon as I'm back to rooted BML?

If I understand your question, you are on MTD and heading back to BML? There are 2 things you can do. 1) use Titanium backup and restore the data to the app that you don't want to leave behind or and this is not recommended but should work
2)Edit your nandroid and everywhere it says yaffs2 change it to ext4 or rfs depending on what you will be on in the file names, and also open up nandroid.md5 with notepad or some editor and do a find and replace all for the same (yaffs2 to ext4 or rfs). Then after flashing your ROM do an advanced restore data from that edited nandroid. Make sure the nandroid is not renamed when you first backup.

Was in idiot mode when I flashed the MTD ROM (CM7.2 Nightly 25), didn't back up apps with TB so I guess that only leaves option #2. Finding and replacing text sounds simple enough, but what is the worst that could happen if I manage to somehow screw it up? Would rather not do it if it can make my phone implode. At any rate thanks for the reply :>

Rename your old backups to .yaffs2 and then advanced restore data. If you screw up, reflash cm7.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using Tapatalk
Ok, so you are ON MTD and want to restore stuff from the BML backup. Titanium backup let's you restore from a BML nandroid or do what Marcusant said and change all the ext4 or rfs to yaffs2 and edit the nandroid.md5. Worse that can happen is restore fails with md5 error.

The only difference between bml and mtd is partition sizes. Everything else is the same

Using Amon-RA 2.3, nandroid backup, Evo 4G, Sorry pretty new to this.
Restore a backup ? Did you do a full wipe before you restored it. That might help. I forgot to once and a bunch of my apps were missing but I did a full wipe and then restored and it was fine

Its generally accepted that the smelkus mod recovery is the way to go for our evo. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1661543
Ive never had a problem doing full restores with that. Some games need the data to be restored seperate via titianum backup I've found though.
Edit: Another thing may be that you made a nandroid before you installed gapps and such.
Thanx, working better with smelkus

honestly bro for apps use go backup and restore its easier and more compatible for apps! yes APPS only lol. as long as you dont format the sd card youll be fine!
hello,
i just made a slipstreamed/modified version of cm10 4.2.2 for the desire.
I want to test it out on my device, and before i do i want to make a nandroid backup in cwm.
so i was just wondering when i make the nandroid will it also backup the apps that i have stored on my sd-ext (a2sd), and will it be able to restore all my apps that i had before to my sdext?
k i made a nandroid backup but towards the end it said that it could find a sd-ext2 partition, and that it was skipping the backup of my sd-ext
btw im using 4ext, not cwm like i accidentally said in my original post. and my sd-ext is ext4.
i really want to backup my sd-ext partition, instead of having to restore with tb
thanks
nandroid is supposed to backup ext aswell but i cant be sure of twrp as i have never used it
why dont you backup your apps with titanium backup just to be on the safe side

Sorry I meant 4ext, not twrp. Lol.
I really want nandroid backup, cause it will be a hassle to have to always use titanium backup, rather than just doing a full nandroid restore.
Especially if I test my ROM many times.

if you have an ext partition properly setup it should
i use 4ext and the backup always retains apps and app data

It has backed up your apps on your ext4 partition.
That message means its skipping your 2nd ext partition which you obviously don't have or know what that is so. Ignore the message.
But it has backed up your apps

Ya thanks I figured it out yesterday.
I thought that when it said skipping sd-ext2 it was skipping my sd-ext partition that was formatted as ext2

Hi
I'm considering how to make proper backup and then how restore it properly?
I have 512 mb ext partition on my sd card.
What should I do when I want to restore applications on other rom?
Can I do it? Use recovery or other application for ex: titanum backup to do it?
Thanks in advance

If you wanted to make 100% sure you got everything you can use the recovery to make a full back up and then use the app http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2044414 nandroid manager. It allows you to fully recovery almost everything from your back up manually including the app data
