[Q] Samsung Galaxy S 2 Docking station (original) - Galaxy S II Accessories

Hello people
Just recieved the original Samsung dock today - This one: http://www.mobilityshop.dk/images/galaxy_s2_dock-r.jpg
If I don't remember wrong, I have to install an app on the phone so I can connect the phone to pc via the dock. Cause at the moment it charges only. Anyone in who knows what app I need to create the usb connection?
By the way. The dock is absolutely awesome. If you think about getting, I can only say GO FOR IT!
Looking forward to hear from you

Yes, and neither if it's usb debugging or not, I cannot get it to connect... I asume that it IS possible to connect to pc from the dock...

Yes yes and especially since its the original, it should work flawlessly. I doubt you need a separate application. Have you tried it on different ports and pcs?

Do you have the original Samsung case? (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1082260)
If so, does the SGS2 fit into the dock with the case on it?

The original Dock doesn't support a pc connection :-(

It says here that it synchronises which means it does support PC connection

Damn thats weird. Anyone else you know thats got it working?

I think only a hardware modification will fix it. Other Docking Stations for the Galaxy S2 can sync and charge. They have to USB-Ports, one for sync and one for a charger.
I have a docking station for htc hd2 with the same two usb-ports. It´s internal wired so the +5V comes from the carger usb-port and the data-signals from the sync usb-port.
So, you can buy a cheap Noname docking station or someone have to make a modification for the original one.
Maybe, when I will buy the original docking station I can take a look inside it...

You might try putting into webtop mode and plugging in a powered hub, then something else into the hub.
I too can confirm this does not work. I tried the female usb to make micro adapter. I guess the coupling does the same thing. My mouse didn't stay power on. Oh I powered my hub, btw, I didn't think my atrix could drive it. Maybe it can? I dunno
Maybe try something like this OTG cable:

I thought that device need a special OTG cable to work as host, but it was some misunderstanding.
But there must be something (IC?) in the docks, that it's possible to work with normal USB keyboard/mice
It's not unlikely that the docks do some voodoo to force the phone into host mode. It should be possible to do that using software as well (at least it was on OMAP based systems using cat host > /sys/.../mode).
Unfortunately I don't have the OTG adapter with me atm ... but poking around somewhere in /sys (or alike) could be starting point.
You need to use an OTG cable and give it 5vdc.

If you're just taking the USB cable that came with the tablet, changing it's gender and plugging something into the end, it won't work. The tablet would need to have USB Host support which this tablet does not. I believe that the Samsung USB Adapter that converts directly from the Samsung Connector to USB Female will add USB Host support (USB OTG).
Here is the USB Adapter. http://www.samsung.com/us/mobile/galaxy-tab-accessories/EPL-1PL0BEGSTA

I'm sorry, but you're wrong. Honeycomb 3.1 adds SOFTWARE support for USB Host funtionality. The device has to have HARDWARE support as well. This tablet does not. That is the reason that you need a special adapter that provides USB Host HARDWARE funtionality, such as the one I listed above.

Yes. There's a lot of misinformation in this thread. The tablet DOES have USB Host capability, but it will only enable it when it sees a specific resistor on a particular pin in the dock connector.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1155065 for more details.
To get USB Host, there are two approaches:
1) Make your own cable with the correct resistors
2) Purchase the Samsung USB Host adapter which is now available for around $20.
Note that there are some limitations:
1) Xbox360 controllers and PS3 controllers are not standard HID devices and require kernel support not present in stock kernels. Pershoot's kernel has the necessary modules.
2) PS3 controllers must be fully charged before trying to use them. If not they will try to charge their battery from the tab and cause an overcurrent trip, disabling the port until the USB dongle is disconnected.
Also, Samsung didn't mangle the Bluetooth stack like they do with their phones, so wiimotes work.
Not working for me
Not sure if there's a specific USB setting, but I bought the adapted and it works with Chainfire's DSLR Controller no problem. I plugged in the playstation 3 remote and had no luck, nor any detection of the device. Tried running an n64 emulator to try to map the keys, no luck there either.
All of the guides seem to be using a Xoom, I'm on the brand new OTA on the GT10.1
Anyone else?

Verizon wireless corporate stores have the adapter in stock they will have to order it but last time i checked they had about 4000 in the warehouse, I hope this is helpful for those of you who are patiently waiting.

Which kernel are you running? Did you read my notes in the post prior to yours at all?
So, if i get the official USB adapter my regular wireless keyboard (Logitech Wave) should work seamlessly. Right?
I've just been using the "SixAxis Controller" app from Dancing Pixel (you can find it on the Android Market) to connect my PS3 controller to my tablet over Bluetooth. It's worked great for me (note: I use yongzh's emulators)
Hope that helps with the PS3 issues...I don't really know much about the USB adapter as I don't use it.

USB host cable for $5 on Amazon with Prime (works)

So, this works:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005FUNYSA/ref=oh_o00_s00_i00_details
However, it doesn't work for everything. A mouse works, but a USB Flash Drive doesn't seem to work, nor does another USB device that does work on the Acer A500 Android tablet I have.
So... Yeah. Just thought you guys would wanna know. I'll look into more devices. I know Honeycomb supported all kinds of USB devices (hub, flash drive, mouse, keyboard) so I'm a little surprised the flash drive didn't work. I'll let you know if I find anything else out. Might just be a driver issue we can work out with custom ROMS. Obviously the communications is working since the mouse works. It could be a power draw issue. I have a USB power meter and the mouse draws 20ma. The flash drive that doesn't work draws 60ma.
-Taylor
UPDATE: Works great with a device we are developing at work (basically a USB hub and FTDI chip combo board if that means anything to ya). It draws about 62ma, so the flash drive issue must not be due to power draw.
UPDATE 2: Rooted users can easily mount flash drives using the app StickMount in the market - its very clean and works well! Thanks to user [esoomenona] for the suggestion.

Actually it looks like no. One of the reviews points out its not a USB OTG (On the go) adapter. USB On the go is a USB port that can act either as a device (plug it into your computer) or as a host (plug in a mouse, etc). In order to tell the phone which mode to be in, USB OTG connectors need to have one of the pins hooked up to ground. Unfortunately not all of these adapters do (I have no idea what they're good for if they don't) and it looks like that one doesn't. But someone linked to the one on DealExtreme that might work.

Okay, so I received the cable I stated above, and tried to plug in a microSD card via USB adapter, and it didn't work. After a bit of googling, I've come to think of two options for why it doesn't:
1. The cable doesn't work
2. The OS doesn't seem to mount them automatically. I found an app called StickMount on the Market, but it requires root, and I haven't rooted yet.
Anyone know anything about this?

Well I mentioned in the first post that USB flash drives don't work. A card reader is going to have the same issue, as they're basically the same. I think its related to the phone not having its own microSD card, and so it lacks the drivers to mount storage properly. Which still seems silly to me if the device has USB host support, they should include those things!
Plug in a mouse. If a mouse works, the cable is fine.

I honestly think this is going to be it...because of internal storage it doesn't come with the native ability to detect external storage. I'd imagine that app would allow it or that it'll get pushed out as an update down the road...maybe a MOD will get made too if it takes too long.
Either way, when mine comes *crosses fingers for tomorrow* I'll be rooting and post back the results.
Oh damn, StickMount works! Plug in a USB drive and stickmount will pop up asking to run. Then it mounts the drive and my file browser sees it. Then you unmount the drive before unplugging. Wish it was native but this is pretty damn simple. Thanks for finding it!
I was a bit skeptical since the USB drive doesn't even light up when you first plug it in, but once you run stickmount its all good!
Go ahead and root that thing! Just note rooting will erase the phone, so back up first!
I had a Micro USB to USB female for my Nook Color for UBS host. Tried it. Worked like a charm. It even drew enough to power a hub, the keyboard, and the mouse. I was shocked. Im going to but a splitter and use a MHL out to HDMI for 1080 goodness.
Got mine on Amazon for $1.46. Works well (I just wish it was a cable and not a plug though(.
I'll have to see how this works out, ordered the cable.
I have an externally powered USB hub that I can plug into the USB OTG cable.
This is great, I've been looking for these cables. Thanks!
Edit: Does anyone have any idea if you can use an MHL adapter for HDMI at the same time as one of these? I see that some MHL adapters have charging ports, but I don't know if they support data.

Using MHL through a splitter won't work based on how MHL works. You either get USB or MHL. MHL does not use USB-compatible signaling.
Alright, I typed this with a mouse and it's slow, but cool. Guess it's time to root. See you on the other side.
