MMS tiny after TB Fusion ROM - Desire HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi All,
Just went to TB Fusion 1.1.8 from stock ROM after root now all my MMS are coming through tiny, most not even reaching 15k in size. Any ideas? Before TB Fusion they were OK? In MMS settings i've got max size as 300k so not sure what the deal is. If i sent MMS to others though they are getting it full size so it's just the receive that's the problem.
Any ideas what i can change to fix it? Kernel perhaps?
I have tried handcent and so on and they are tiny in there too. Not a dealbreaker but would be good to fix it all the same.
Inspire 4G. ENG off etc etc...

MMS Messaging Size on Orange UK

So I've recently discovered that the Desire is auto resizing pictures I send to < 20kb from 900kb+ when sending an mms. There is no option anywhere on the phone that I can see to change the auto resize or to prompt a resize sizing option; now I've scoured the internet with a fine comb and I can find a couple of possible causes people have suggested:
- The network has not updated their user profile settings
- It's a fault with the android/Desire MMS settings
- It's the fact the picture is being added as a slideshow, and not just as an image.
So I've been through the settings and tried to eliminate anything that could or could not be true. Adding a picture via the image gallery or manually hitting "attach" via the mms creation page doesn't change the fact the pictures are added as slideshows. I'm not sure if this can eliminate this as a cause but there is no other way to add an mms to the HTC Messaging program within the phone.
As far as all my MMS settings go I've been on the phone with a very nice tech support guy from orange and he and I are most puzzled whythe phone is doing this. One suggestion he had that might be a problem is that the phone is a generic handset and has not been flashed with the orange rom. Apparently there were some HTC guys in the orange building today and they said photo messaging was working fine. I'm not sure how fine the testing was, but if they checked file size limits and the such, it would give a possible answer to why my Desire isnt resizing messages properly.
There are numerous threads about O2 and them not updating their MMS User Profile settings to be compatible with the desire, however o2 have apparently updated their settings and some people have reported mms messages working ok. The guy on the phone said that he wasn't aware of any user profile updates but he's also not sure if he would be informed about this if it were updated.
Some other things I've tried in the phone include changing the max mms setting limit from default to 300kb, I've double and triple checked the MMS settings with orange and lastly I tried using an app called handcent.
Now, handcent does actually seem to increase the size that the pictures are compressed down to, but still to a measly ~80kb and nothing near the ~250kb my old HTC Touch HD used to do.
My next port of call is to call HTC UK and their tech support to see if they know about this and if theres a fix for it. Interestingly, Android 2.2 should be coming to the desire in the coming weeks so we'll see if that might just magically fix it. Unfortunately HTC Support isn't open till monday so no MMSs over the weekend!
I'll try and keep this updated with information as I get it as I'm sure other people are finding this problem, not necessarily with orange, but maybe with other networks.
Has anyone else had this issue and have they found an applicable solution?
I know what you mean, as I also had the Touch HD, previously to my Desire. I have the same MMS problem, so i'm curious for the Solution.

Hi...I took have exactly the same problems with my unbranded HTC desire using my Orange sim card....please do post back if you find anything out!
Many thanks!

wow, totally forgot about this thread... apologies!
I've spoken to both orange and HTC tech support now, orange were particularly unhelpful and assured me that there was no such thing as an mms user profile; so well done to them.
HTC were much more helpful and I was told that it is something they've received some reports on over the past few weeks as people have been getting their hands on the desire. Apparently it happened on the Nexus-One too, but some have reported that 2.2 Android (codename: Froyo) has fixed a lot of things on the Nexus-One and HTC are hoping it will fix the MMS problems on the desire too. As for when 2.2 will be coming to the desire, there is much speculation but the guy on the phone at HTC said "june" to me.
Fingers crossed it'll all be fixed and I can send images nice and large again!
Its not going to be June, i guess... lol

going on HTC's performance on updates in the past im sure he meant june next year
Well everyone knows corporate bsns is srs.
I saw a blog post somewhere from techradar or something (don't quote me on that) that it was expected in Q3 of 2010.. so before september perhaps
I submitted a bug report for this to HTC about 3months ago, and they never got back to me about it, a workaround is to install handcent sms, and use that to send mms... thats what i do
2.2 will be available OTA in the Netherlands as from Today. Hope that will solve the MMS issue for me.

Had this issue myself back in april/may and thought it was resolved when o2 finally got there act together and started selling the desire. Unfortunatley this only seemed to work with there stock o2 rom. Switching to any other rom (rooted) caused the mms issue. I have now finally found a rom that works and brings in mms at the correct size. tested with a 196kb pic and it came in the same size. the rom i am now using is the Modaco R6 froyo rom without the HTC messaging app so just using the stock android messaging app. The only other rom previous to this was pays 1.1 rom on eclair (android 2.1) as my partner is using this rom on the same network and this works fine. o2 were useless as helping but i guess with there stock rom it does work so cant blame them on this occaision.
Have you tried Handcent and changing the custom useragent , it didnt work for me but may be worth ago.

thats interesting that the generic rom had the mms problem, whereas the o2 version didn't... most peculiar. That makes me think that maybe the carriers are limiting MMS size in some way? Perhaps thats totally paranoid and maybe not even possible but perhaps if someone is running a rom that is not their own, they aren't letting them send as much data for whatever reason?
I don't want to root my desire just yet, so I won't be moving from the stock HTC rom for the forseeable future.
I have tried handcent yes, but I actually quite dislike the program as an sms tool, maybe I didn't give it enough of a chance. It didn't actually completely fix the problem either, only increased the picture size by a marginal amount.
In other news I just updated to 2.2 Froyo today on my desire, stock rom... no Orange branding or whatnot. Sadly, the MMS resizing pictures problem has not been fixed. I'll be calling HTC tomorrow and see if they have any ideas. Failing that I might just have to live with it and start sending pictures via email rather than to peoples phones.
How do you actually determine what size to set your MMS image at? Wouldn't your service provider have a set size limit at which MMS messages can be sent at and also the recipients carrier would have a set size limit it can receive MMS at?
I am probably wrong but I always assumed this is why MMS images are downscaled so much
I can confirm it hasn't been fixed with the generic 2.2 rom, I reported this bug like 6months ago now, i gave them a detailed description and a how to reproduce it

this has nothing to do with the operator, its a HTC mms bug, where its shrinking the image on the device side (because it forces it to be a slideshow, rather than just an image)

Oh okay cool thanks for the info, I just sent a MMS on froyo and it was 50KB so it didn't scale down so +1 from me. I couldn't find any specific information on MMS size for three mobile, but came across some size limits for international MMS which were around 100kb to 300kb.

UK general carrier limit (and I'm pretty sure three mobile falls under this too, but don't quote me on that) is 300kb per MMS message, if you press menu in the messaging app you can get to a mms size limit setting which you can set to 100, 200 or 300kb. Doing this makes no difference to what the device will do to the pictures, as it does indeed add the image as a slideshow. Last time I spoke to HTC they weren't sure if it was the fact it was a slideshow causing a problem, or whether it was the operators settings causing problems. I personally think the former is more likely, and there are no settings anywhere on the device to change the compressed picture size.
Also FYI, a 50kb picture is almost certainly compressed unless it was really really small in the first place. I take pictures of 1mb+ with my desire, haven't fiddled with any settings on the camera yet tho.
What I find more curious is that if it doesn't overly compress the pictures size on an o2 stock rom (read a few posts up), maybe its simply a setting hidden somewhere in the depths of android that HTC just haven't enabled.
I'll be calling HTC tomorrow and see if they have any ideas.

HTC wont do nothing as it is down the network i am afraid. o2 wanted me to send the phone back to them as they said it was faulty which of course i rubbish. It is soley down to the rom itself, there was a fix for other phones, someone patched the mms.apk but i could not get this to work.
I am waiting for madaco to release the new 2.2 stock rom in there kitchen so i can take off the htc messaging and put the stock android one back in to see if this is still resolved on this one. hopefully it will work otherwise i will just stick to the R6 rom i am running now as not got any problems with it and mms messages come through at full size.

[Q] no MMS

I don't know if anyone else is having this problem, but for the longest time I haven't been able to send/receive MMS on my phone. I run recent CM6 nighties, with s-off, hboot .92 and the 7.28 radio. Right now using the ziggy 10-26 kernel.
I primarily use Handcent, but I've tried it in the stock messaging app too and nada!
It just keeps "sending..."
I've tried searching XDA, handcent forums, forums at Cyanogen, etc. Never really found anything helpful. If there's something I missed I'd greatly appreciate anyone pointing me in the right direction.
Any help would be appreciated!
Thanks in advance

This happened to me when I used Cyanogen as well. Never got it fixed. With this new rom (Ultimate Droid) when I deleted Mms.apk i couldn't receive so i restored it. Possible you don't have Mms.apk in /system/app/ ?
I checked, it's in there.... I'd really hate to go back to a sense rom in order to get mms to work. I'm surprised nobody else has had this problem...
Any other thoughts floating around out there?
Thanks again!
Make sure you don't have the stock messaging app disabled or any parts of it blocked or disabled. I had that problem before and that's what caused it.

Thanks for the thought, but I don't think that's the problem either. I can send SMS through stock, but MMS keeps saying "Sending..."
I had this problem before as well. Spent HOURS upon HOURS trying to resolve it. Turned out it was a simple rule in my firewall, Droid Wall. Make sure you allow "Messages" access. Doh!
I have this problem as well. I can send/receive on any htc sense rom, such as stock or myn's 2.2, but cannot send on miui or cm6.
MIUI - no send/no receive
cm6 - yes receive / no send.
I really can't figure out what htc framework, or the mms.apk, has that is letting it that the others won't. It's strange.
I know this isn't much help as I cannot remember how exactly I fixed this but it is indeed fixable so do not give up. cyanogen 6.1 RC2 works fine it seems, have you tried the new one?
I'm on 6.1 rc2. So far I've tried....
replacing the apn with a known working apn
wiping everything/flashing cm6/replacing apn/rebooting
replacing apn with cyanogen's posted apns-conf.xml, deleting telephony folder, rebooting
any basically any combination like that.
edit: I even tried replaceing the telephony.db and apns-conf.xml on cm6 with the ones that were on my working stock sense rom. Still stuck at "sending"
Anyone ever get this figured out? Having the same issue on my g/f's Incredible. She can receive MMS just fine in stock Messaging and Handcent, but can't send MMS in either; just sticks at "sending..."
It's an issue in both CM6 & 7. We've wiped, checked APNs, checked mms.apk, etc.
Still plugging away at this, but no avails so far. =/
Cheers for any input.
Scratch that;
A full re-wipe and re-flash fixed it.
Even though I wiped going from Sense>CM6 (then 7) on her Incredible, it sort of seems like a lot of the Sense/Verizon settings were retained within the system - almost like the wipe didn't fully do its job.
When I first ran the new CM6 install last week, Google never pulled her apps or full contact info automatically. It honestly seems like those Verizon apps were f**king up her ability to properly sync contact and app data to her Gmail account, even though it was checked to do so. Now, after a week of running on CM, a full wipe and re-install has all of that info pulling down properly, as well as full restoration of the ability to send MMS.
Hope this helps some folks out there having this issue.
Byebye. =]

Can not send MMS with mobile data disabled

This behavior appeared after i applied the official 2.3 RUU on my desire.
Can someone confirm this problem?
Any ideas on how to solve it?
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
Have you contacted Vodafone/searched their help pages to check that you have the correct MMS settings (the upgrade may have wiped the settings, especially if your phone was branded)? If not, they would be a good place to start - more often than not, they can send the settings to your phone, for you.
The only problem with mms i have had is when the picture size is too much?! Even though my settings have a max of like 2mb it still would not send, but after reducing the image to like 300kb it worked?
Not a proper fix but i'm curious, because it would say sending for hours but never work

[Q] AT&T MMS issues after update to 4.1.2

Hey guys I'm normally a lurker here. I'm just curious if anyone else is having the same issue. Basically in a jt shell my phone will only and an mms picture until the phone reboots. So basically I go to send a picture and just sits there. Email is fine and once the phone is rebooted it sends it to my work phone. I have checked all the apn settings and even reset them. I've done everything and even Google the issue. I'm fairly certain that it isn't the area of coverage as I've been to Dallas a few times to test that out. Very odd. Any suggestions other than warranty exchange. Lol the main reason I don't want to exchange alor wipe again as I've wiped and it doesn't correct plus in have a great final fantasy game going lol. I'm 32 lol.
have you tried clearing the messenger app cache? Have you tested on wifi and data? Do you have a limit size set for mms? Is this a stock messenger app and is it set to be the default for mms

[Q] AOKP mms not working (AT&T galaxy S3)

I just flashed the most recent AOKP on my AT&T GS3 and can't receive MMS. the issue is the same on the stock messaging app as well as handcent, my APN settings are all correct, and every other option that I've researched (here and elsewhere) yields no positive results. I didn't have an issue with an older version of AOKP, but I updated because other aspects of the ROM were getting a little glitchy. This version is much smoother, but now MMS isn't working. what the heck is going on?
unable to send recently as well...

Dirty flash?
Check your apn settings

clean flash, all apn settings are the same as before the flash
I believe the default sms app might not be compressing the image to fit your carriers mms limit. Try using a different sms app and see if it sends. If that's the problem you could use an alternative sms app or try decreasing your cameras quality to make the images smaller.
update: I did a factory reset, and mms started working again... for about a day. it then started doing the same things as before, so I'm totally lost. same issue arises whether I use handcent or the stock app. will attempt a third messaging app for the purpose of covering all bases
no other third party messaging apps work either. I can't think of anything else that could be an issue. any more help?
Had similar issues do you use ad blocker? Apparently it's a common issue ad blocker has

good heavens! I never would've guessed adblock plus would be affecting messaging! I disabled adblock and after a reboot was able to receive an mms. thank you for that little pearl of wisdom!

Took me forever to figure it out customized it how I wanted tested then had to add apps back one at a time until it stopped working my friend got really sick of getting mms from me while testing. It's a known issues listed on their Web page apparently the block port 80 and that's what mms goes thru
