I want to use htc location application.
But HTC corp didnt get Navigation business permisson.
So they cant service until now in my contury. They also cant service htcsense.com.
But they provide downloading map.
They just cant provide Searching road.
Is exist crack or something?
I'm pretty sure the htc location service is free, if available. If it's not available in your country, find a way to get it working.
Ok i will ask htc corp.

A couple of weeks ago when the Desire Z came out I had one delivered. I used it for less than 2 days before deciding the slide out keyboard was pointless and just added weight / size!
I bought a Desire instead.
Anyway... I noticed one good feature on the Desire Z was that they had Google Maps that I could download to my SD card. It asked which region I wanted, and downloaded all the maps so I didn't need the internet to view them.
Is this available for the Desire? I've had a look on various sites and can't see anything - but maybe I've got the name wrong?! I'm sure it was Google Maps though?
Was probably locations, not google maps. Locations is a HTC sense app which is not on the desire.

HTC Location is using TomTom maps
Go hit up market and get it!
Love it!
Anyone know of a way to take advantage of caching? I'd like to store my whole region for off-line (SDcard) use.

how do we see 3d buildings or suppose to be automatic if available?

3d buildings are automatic if they are available. You just have to zoom in real far. I didn't see them on the Boston map but they are on the New York map.

Is anyone with Desire Z able to get the update? Google Maps was preinstalled, so it doesn't auto-update or show in the Market app. Also, when I try to search it on Market, I can't find it.
I updated my desire z today using mobile data. The app was in the new app store showing the update tab. Working great and faster than before, even while using on mobile data.
Any lone know if there is a way to precache maps as a whole. Id like to get my whoe county but it only seems to cache what i look at at the time.

Go to androidpolice.com, find maps post on front page, scan QR code.
(Not affiliated with androidpolice in any way. I just happened to find out about the new Maps over there first and the QR worked for me...)
Thanks! Tried that, and also on other websites with barcode for Google Maps, but I always get the message (after I go to the link) - "The requested item could not be found".
I wonder why Google Maps is forbidden from installing to my Desire Z, or even showing up in Market?
APK that works on my phone, since there's no other way to install Google Maps, is in this thread:

I think that works the same way it does on computers. Depending on your network.
So maybe there's a similar trick to bypass this as you can do with a computer using a proxy.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
UPDATE : Just had a look on Google and didn't find anything related to your specific problem but there are plenty of people having troubles with the market and the non-availability of some apps in their country. Some managed to solve this using a US-based VPN. Maybe you should try that.
Could try a proxy

The MoreLocale 2 app (available in the Play store) does exactly what you're looking for. I needed it to change from US(canada) to US(us) for the Amazon music app.
Can anyone confirm if HTC one X has the device finder feature like the desire HD?
I cannot locate the device finder feature under Settings>Location
Is it my device that is missing this feature or has HTC removed it entirely from the one X?
I searched the forums here on xda and google but couldn't find anything anywhere about it.
My device is from India.
Dunno, but I'm sure you can find something in the play store.

on dhd it basically never ever worked, i think they just got rid of the whole htcsense.com thing because it never worked reliably. (in fact i remember they sent out an email saying they were shutting it down and to backup contacts etc)
lookout is good, wheres my droid is also good. both do the same thing, just ten times better than the htc one.
Hi guys,
let me start of with saying i don't know where this thread belongs, since it's not sgn2 related, but more of a general android question.
Okay, my ' problem' : I'm going to be in south africa for a few weeks in december, i want to use my gps to know where i'm going, but i don't want all the roaming costs from loading the map itself. Is there any way to store a big part of the map or location offline on our device? Or is there an app that doesn't need roaming and already has the map itself?
Thanks in advance,
Kain
A few apps should have this feature but I don't have any name in mind...
However I know that Google Maps allow you to use maps offline: Google support
Google Maps allows it in a limited way
Google maps actually allow us to locally store an small area as offline, but its not gonna be sufficient to u, try to use some offline maps like Sygic or so,
Maybe u can try Mapswithme?

I actually used Google Maps to track myself with GPS during my trip to South Africa. You need internet to do a search for a place or get directions (hotel/coffeeshop WiFi will do), but if you think you know where the place is on the map (the maps still include the labels) you can zoom in to view the label (in otherwords, you have to do a manual search for things without an internet connection)
.
Offline maps are great for hikes (or safaris, in South Africa ) to help you know how far you are from a road or landmark. Use the 'distance ruler' function. From my experience, a surprising number of trails, world-wide, are well mapped-out.
I still do offline maps, today, because I didn't upgrade to the new Google Maps (the reviews were terrible), but you may have to search to find and download the old Google Maps.
Maps with me pro
I use it and recomend

Sygic with worldwide maps on the device is an option too.
I most be missing something but there are all kinds of offline map programs. Sygic, Copilot (there is a free version), Navigon, Maverick is more offroad but can be used to find your way around. Locus is another it also has a free version. There are dozens more. Look on Play store.
I use navfree. Careful with Google maps. I believe it deletes map data after two weeks. Thought I read that somewhere.

+1 for Navfree. Don't forget that you need to download your maps via the app before you leave.
No harm in having a few free nav apps at your disposal. They'll all have their own strengths so perhaps you might find yourself using more than one. So maybe download a handful of the free ones.
