[Q] EVO hardware version?? - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

How do I find out what hardware version my phone is? I see all kinds of talk about dif versions but not how to find out.

Menu > Settings > About Phone > Hardware Information
It's the first line

thanks...guess i gotta go back 2 sense 2 c

i just picked up an evo a week ago and it came with 0003, i know 0004 exists, is one better than the other? i know it has to do with the screens or something

It actually doesn't have anything to do with the screens; whether you get an epson or a novatec seems to be as random as ever regardless of your hardware version. If I recall correctly, hardware 004 has a slightly different camera (I can't recall if it's considered better or worse than the others) and I think some minor changes in the height of the power button. Presumably also some other minor internal revisions.

Can't find Hardware Version
Hello!
I know this is an old thread, but I was wondering if there was an alternate way of determining my hardware version. The first field under "About Phone" is Status, and I don't see Hardware Version anywhere. I'm running Gingerbread Evo Deck 1.3.

Screen type different between older models & new ones!!

Ok, my brother bought his diamond & I thought I noticed that his colors were washed out but I thought it might just be me or either it’s the brightness settings.
Well, today I bought a new Diamond for my cousin & it seems no wonder what rom I tried or settings I change the colors are defiantly washed out unlike my older Diamond which came with 1.34.
I will try to take a picture of them both using the same rom. But anyway did anyone ever notice this before? Any info on this, yet?
EDIT: check the picture, look at the
1- backround much lighter color !!
2- Red,orange, green colors are much more vibrent in older model.
3- contrast on the left the black is much deeper !!
I noticed something similar when I compared the display of a HTC Diamond and a MDA Compact IV. The Display of the Diamond had somewhat warmer colors. The white was slightly more "yellowish". The MDA Screen was more cooler in color tone/temperature. it had a more steril look to it.
I personally favored the warmer screen of the Diamond.
I think this may (although I don't know how it's technically possible) that this is caused by the ROM that the device is running. I have noticed on some ROMs that my Diamond has a plain white background whereas on others the background is off-white or warmish-yellow as jones23 mentions.
Shouldn't this be in the Diamond section and not Diamond ROM Development?
HTC Builds most handsets in Taiwan (SN starts HT) or china the Taiwan models are usually more refined in manufacture and component quality. with previous touch models "Touch" "Touch Dual" this was very clear when the handsets are placed together with the Chinese made having a very poor screen, HTC also has a habit of tighter quality control on its network commission handsets (Network branded usually better standard) because of higher costs for return passed on from service provider
check the first post, i added a picture of both, left one is older versions.
Both roms are running dutty Hybrid rom, so exact copy.
Well there seems to be a difference i have a 3G And 2G both and 3G's screen seems much bright .
Totally the same
Naser404! Totally the same what I am facing.
Last month I bought a Touch Diamond which came with ROM 1.35.xx
That one is darker than my current one which I just bought today evening (ROM 1.37.xx) I was thinking my new one is fake one or something else before I found this forum. ha ha!
You know, the new one is noticeably smoother than the old one maybe because of newer ROM version. I also think like this, HTC reduce graphic quality to speed up TouchFlo 3D.
No bro, I tried with the same ROM, i am quiet sure its the lcd screen is of lower quality & therefore lower cost. Manufactureres always do that, if you even check the first Iphone released it had a diffrent screen then the ones released a month or two later.

Oh! really? So I prefer my old diamond screen
I think it has something to do with spl.
I had same problem with my 1.37xxx diamond. but after flashing hard spl 1.40 i had screen flickering, then i flashed the 1.37 hard spl unsigned with the 1.93 rom, now brightness back to normal. screen flickering solved too. So ithink you should try flashing different spl.
My Diamond came in late June form China and I flashed with Unsigned-Hard-SPL-Diamond-OliNex 1.40 and Duttys Hybrid 5.2.19965 20270.
Today, I had to do the same process for my friend's device who got here locally in Cairo (and also to over come the know issue of unavailability of GPS b the ROM, as GPS is banned in Egypt !!!).
After finishing the flashing, surprisingly I noticed that there is a difference in colors of the 2 devices.
Mine the old one, is brighterwhile my friend's colors are washed. So I guess it has to do with the screen type and not the ROM or the SPL
Fortunatly, my device is older

Your friends device might be a newer one with 1.37 rom installed. and you need the new unsigned hard spl 1.37 only for people who are having screen flickering. Try to swtich it might help.
Same problem here, mine looks like the one on the right
It's very annoying, if there was a way to adjust contrast this issue could be solved somewhat....
Also faced the same issue. My diamond was replaced for a wifi problem and the replacement had this newer screen that is as described in the 1st post. The washing out is most apparent when viewing the screen from an angle, where as the original screen would not show any washing out at ANY angle. The original screen was much better. I sent an e-mail to HTC support and recieved the following reply:
"Thank you for contacting HTC Corporation Middle East Support Firstly, we’re very sorry for your problems with your desired phone HTC and it’s our honour to have your trust. Regarding HTC Diamond displays, with a global shortage of LCD displays this year, HTC sourced from multiple vendors. All LCD displays meet our engineering specifications. We have compared displays side by side and there are subjective differences in appearance, but all meet our engineering specifications. So, many replacement will not solve the problem as the recently patches from screens will provide the same quality"
But I have noticed 1 good thing about the new screen, it is much better under the sun.
So can one of of you crazy programmers up to the task to make a program which adjusts contrast?

Touch 1

He friends - when the first Touch came out I bought it and was so unsatisfied ref. the keyboard that I changed the device - also because the perforamce was pretty slow
Let me ask you - is the No. 2 now faster and much better ???
Hi,
The touch-pro 2 has some hardware improvements, but none concerning it's speed. The software that's delivered by HTC is further optimized and is a lot faster. Also the version of the processor that's included has changed in the TD2 & TP2. This probably means that the processor has been more optimized too.
I expect the TP2 to be faster in use, because of the new well working software (Shell). Next to that, it will be easier to work with because of the bigger screen.
About the keyboard, looking at some video's about pre-releases of the phone, every reviewer says the keyboard is one of the best ever. I haven't seen any lag when people were typing.
I think normal all-day use (agenda, mail, phone, sms, etc) will be faster and more accessible. But gaming, or other 3th party software that requires a lot of horsepower,....... Just don't expect the TP2 to be a lot better/faster. But then again, htc targets the bussines world.
I suggest you look into other topics and look for reviews (youtube: touch-pro2 review), so you can see for yourself.
I'm upgrading from my Hermes . The reason why I won't wait for other 1 gigz phones? Playing 3d games, just won't work on phones cause of the louzy controls and little screen. Other than that, I can't think of reasons why I would want a 1 Gighz phone. Battery will be empty faster and it will take a year before the new processors will be fully optimized. (not to think of the heat the new processors will make)

Specifically, the drivers are believed to have been improved to address some graphics hangups. It's hard to know what any particular user means when they complain about performance.
If, peter, you're referring to the TF3D interface, you'll probably be pleased. There are a ton of video previews out there on youtube now, so head on over and watch it in action. Those videos are the next best thing to actually using one.
So what could your advice be - to wait for the new toshiba with th ebig display, take the diamond 2 or the touch 2 ???
THANKS a lot

Depends, what kind of user you are.
What kind of phone do you have now? Is it with an hardware keyboard and do you message a lot?
What do you do with you current phone? What do you like, what do you miss?
Do you put you phone in you pocket?
I'm also getting the touch pro2 because there aren't going to be many other phones with an hardware keyboard in the near future. As for only touchscreen phones, I would wait. There are comming a lot new phones in the near future.
If you have a fairly recent phone (touch pro 1 for example) I also would wait for a new phone. That's because new phones keep comming and I don't have the money to keep buying new phones.
(as for the slow touch pro 1, try some home cooked roms from this site. There are probably some real fast ones in the tp1 forum).
Does touch pro2 have an hardware keyboard ???
Actually I`m using again my Xperia...

I'm happy to help and inform you, but at least google the phone before asking a question.
Go to HTC.com and go to the HTC touch pro2 page. You'll see all hardware specs.
It costs me and you less time

[Q] Will the G2/Vision get Gingerbread?

I don't know what else you could really change in android to make it better other than updates for software outside of it's reach (flash, html, that stuff) but they are more than likely rolling out newer firmwares in the future.
Now my question is do you think us new G2 owners will get the update when it comes out? I've heard that it's only on stronger chipsets (namely 1ghz) even though we're on a second generation cpu we're not exactly up to par. Also not to mention, if history repeats itself we may not get the full package like the predecessor G1. (only went to 1.6) while it's almost identical twin the MyTouch 3G recently got a 2.2 update.
Anyways what do you think will happen?
1 ghz was never required, just recommended. Once the source is released I'm sure Cyanogen will merge it into CM.
Also, the G2 can be superclocked!

Does the active have the same specs?

I got the active and the edge and flat s7 and I wanna know if the SD s7 and the active have the same or similar kernels? I see no reason why if I was to flash the s7 roms on this and edit the build prob that a rom would work. Now If its a kernel issue it'd be a problem and if someone could maybe pull the kernel and make a flashable I fell this could work. I mean we got twrp for SD versions on all edges and all flats so it makes sense.
Any feed back would be great.
there IS hardware differences, the chips used, and hardware configuration are different, plus mother board layout is different ..
the fact the SIM/memory cards are in different locations for example, then theres the differences in buttons, the active button, and the two physcial buttons on the front too....
so althou the hardware is VERY much similair it DOES have difference which need altering... how much and where i have no idea !!
